Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
Graduated US Navy Micro-miniature component repair in 1981. Final exam was repair of a multi-layer board with a hole burned through it. Grind off burnt portions; build up each layer with epoxy; make and attach new replacement runs and throughs; replace components. Much of the work was performed under microscope - all the graded inspections were. Heat, pressure, time, and materials all had to be perfect.
The video doesn't mention - use a (approx.) 50% isopropyl/ water solution to clean. The water is a better solvent for some organics. 63/37 eutectic solder is also a must.
Well, he's done that before!
I used to think i was bad at soddering, now i know i should never try again.
Damn that TSSOP one was amazing. I think he uses very high quality solder though, I guess it helps.
I like the music.
Iβm not sure whatβs going on with the ones where they wipe the solder across the entire line. Would that not just stick all the pins together?
Damn...
GODDAMN THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL
and made me feel inadequate and incompetent
Hey, something I used to do for a living!
Before I got into proper engineering, I did technician work for years building prototypes in the auto industry. My "specialty" (aka the reason I kept my job while being a sarcastic asshole) was my ability to hand-solder .25mm pitch QFPs. With no hotplate or flux, RoHS, in place on a vehicle!
... I was young and flexible at the time. Also my hands were steady, my eyes were good, and I didn't yet have a jaded perspective that made me think the effort was wasted. Fuck I'm old.
Anyway it felt really good to be awesome at something, I've never really been exceptional at anything else. Thus ends my bragging.
