and it's so good to see you it's great I've wanted to be on the show for ages yeah finally made it so I'm very pleased to know you're delighted you're a man on a mission though isn't it yeah I mean the shows are about the universe and the question I often get asked is well why why should we need to know and and I think that you know we all ask ourselves questions about why why are we here what's that what's the point and and I think to answer those questions you need to know something about our place in the universe I mean when you know that we are we all be around one star amongst 200 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy and the Milky Way galaxy is one of two trillion galaxies but on the other so we're insignificant in one sense but on the other sense we don't know of any life anywhere else in the universe no we've not discovered anything anyway not yet well not yet so that I'm sure there isn't a snowstorm of galaxies but how many places are there where there is civilizations where people can talk like this I know it won't be very rare yeah and so therefore we're valuable at the same time exact that's what the show is about it's about trying to say what we know about our place but also what that can tell us about how we might behave know exactly and it's for you you what your brilliant art is making science accessible because I think especially when people are really young when they're young kids curiosity they're curious about everything they're like little sponges and and I think it's really sad that we sort of lose that as we get older yeah because I don't think we connect with sometimes with science you know the question are we alone in the universe is a scientific question the people don't see like yeah exactly but and I think you're right there's a childlike element to those questions but they're not childish they're actually really smart questions and sometimes I think when we grow up as adults we think well it's not you know it's not sensible to ask you know why are we here I think I mean I was remember my brother renews me you just he's the only word he ever uses why why why why why bye and kids and and sometimes people doing this China answer that and that's what I'm saying that's what you do so well you know you make accessible for everyone it doesn't matter what age you are you meet you make it unique eggs a so well they're going because you say I think it's that why you know what why are the why is the sky blue why the LEED green why those are actually great question yeah Oh sometimes when our children ask we go well I knew very bad - ELISA great no it is absolutely absolutely a big fan of colleague oh yeah yeah me too he inspired me I mean for those people that haven't seen cosmos it was 1979 now I think it's the greatest science don't you ever me and he said that he had a great turn of phrase one of the things he said that it's astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience I think it is and one of the things I hope happens in the shows is people just look up at the sky I mean I you know I know you got to Scotland quite know you and there you have this beautiful black sky you see the Milky Way and just that active just looking up and then thinking what are those points of light in the sky is that your imagination is then fired and some people say well it could there be another David Addison broom it's like saying could there be another Neil Armstrong well no they can't because he was the first person to walk on the moon in many ways David with the first person to bring that that the wonder of the natural world into our living room it's Halloween today so just out to you a couple of Halloween related things the moon yeah can the moon affect people you know the me that people say or the moon affects your moods and people sort of it and a lot of people have that sort of like I don't know almost like a sort of devotion yeah to the meetin kind of at all all I can say is that that loads of studies have been done and the answer seems to be no yeah and it seems to me that when it is a coincidence and we we're bad as human beings at understanding coincidences yeah so when you sometimes there's something happens to me I felt different there's a full moon up there you tend to attach more to that then there is so all I can say is no no scientific no as well as of course T's because of course Halloween everybody everybody talks about ghosts and things like that do you do you because you're really scientific of course you are and I'm very skeptical about all of these other things how do you start doing things like that again no sadly I think the and again but it's about it's interesting it's about that that our perception we're making so many measurements of the world and seeing they processing all this stuff in our remarkable brains and sometimes you something doesn't quite go according to plan you don't know it's something strange happens and we attach a great deal of weight to those things no I think as far as we can sell as far as we understand the science and we understand science very ya know it's so great they sell everything good told you it's really good fun when can we come and see you because this too is global isn't it it's going from the South Island of New Zealand the Arctic Binnig in the far north but it's in the UK in February right and then but because it quite order it's sold out you still get tickets but we've put some more shows in in September including bo2 Wow see I'm really encouraged by that because that shows that it's a real need and a real hunger for what you do yeah and that's fantastic that's what I find most wonderful about it that then families come and you know and you know Wembley Wembley Arena and things mainly rock rock bands you can stand there and talk about the universe I know plays in it well you've done it as a musician you know you do know as a professor but you think it's amazing fine thank you so much for coming in we'll take all the details on our website of where you're going to be but that sounds amazing what an incredibly thank you and there's pleasure to be on it's great to see you thank you so much you

It's at 3:50 by the way and the other user is right: he doesn't explain why. He just says No.

Well that was disappointing. He didn’t explain why ghosts aren’t real.

I’ve had a few spooky experiences that I can’t explain. I don’t believe they were caused by the spirits of dead people but there’s certainly unexplained things that go on.

I love Brian Cox and I watch all his shows when I can as they are a perfect way for a non-scientist to understand complex examples. I was really hoping for a layman-accessible response on why ghosts aren't real. I guess he didn't have time to go into details. A shame. I could have used it when all the proselytizing twats out here in LA start preaching at me.
