Product Review - Brownells Oxpho-Blue

[Music] foreign [Music] I chose this Rusty Nail set for this review because I've got nail sets that I've glued with other products that we can compare [Music] plus nail sets and punches are fun to clean up [Music] foreign I used a 120 grit belt in my 1 by 30 sander [Music] I used a diamond coated ball shaped bit in my Dremel to clean up the concave tip [Music] the Red Label conditioning belts are ideal for tough to reach spots like this [Music] here's the nail set after the 120 grit belt and the coarse and medium conditioning belts [Music] it's ready for Bluing [Music] the directions are a little bit different than the process I'm used to with the Birchwood KC bluing products I thoroughly cleaned the part with denatured alcohol [Music] I applied the Oxford blue with a cotton ball [Music] foreign [Music] I worked it into the part for about a minute [Music] then I switched to a new cotton ball and wiped the port dry foreign [Applause] [Music] here's how the nail set looked after the first coat I noticed uneven color in a couple of spots I buffed the part with super fine steel wool this seemed to even out the color [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] I cleaned the part again after the steel wool then I applied a second coat using a fresh cotton ball [Music] and I dried it off just as before [Music] here's the nail set after the second coat [Music] I buffed it again with the super fine steel wool [Music] I decided to soak the part with oil even though this step was not in the directions I used non-detergent 30 weight I feel like this locks in the Finish like seasoning a cast iron pan [Music] okay here's what the nail set looked like before I started [Music] [Applause] [Music] and here's how it looks now the two coats of Oxford blue did a nice job I dig the knurling pattern [Music] it looks like it says Great Neck [Music] the reason I chose a nail set for this review is that I've blueed nail sets with three other products and I thought it would be interesting to compare them here's the oxfo blue compared to Birchwood Casey's super blue [Music] and here it is compared to Birchwood Casey's Perma blue liquid and finally Perma blue paste foreign I think the four products give a similar finish [Music] to me the oxfo blue might be a little Bluer compared to the Birchwood Casey products the oxfo blue is somewhat simpler to apply in that the directions do not include a rinse in water after each coat I look forward to using oxfo Blue On future projects I hope you enjoyed the video thanks for watching [Music] [Music]
