[Music] no matter how many Treasures we acquire during this life we cannot take them with us when we go that poignant reality hit home hard recently when many of Prince Margaret's most personal possessions went on show before being put up for auction up to 800 items of jewelry and art with list prices ranging from under €150 to a small fortune went under the hammer at Christy's auction house in London the pieces ranged from a necklace she wore as a little girl to The Tiara she wore at her wedding to Lord Snowden in 1960 well I think it is primarily a reality of life that a large amount of estate tax has to be paid the sale of her prized possessions was slammed by many Royal fans but in fact Margaret's children by count Linley and Lady Sarah chatau claimed that they were forced to sell off so many of their mother's wedding gifts and heirlooms in order to pay the crippling inheritance tax of 40% one of the most prized Lots was a Fab clock valued at just under a million um well it it came to her as a gift from her grandmother Queen Mary and I think was a prize possession it was on the mantle piece in her bedroom at Kensington Palace for many years but the items that Drew the most interest were from Margaret's famous jewelry collection highlights included The pmore Tiara which she wore at Westminster Abbey during her televised Royal Wedding another favorite was a necklace of 34 diamonds totaling 85 carrot worn by Queen Mary at King George V 6 coronation well it is a wonderful necklace that I believe her grandmother wore on many occasions I've heard as nearly as many as well she herself wor it uh apparently on something like a thousand occasions so it's a terrific personal object beautifully made and very very stylish thing to wear the collection featuring almost 200 lots of Royal jewels and more than 600 other lots of furniture China monogrammed silver boxes and decorative items had already been on a world tour shown in Moscow Hong Kong Geneva and New York garnering a lot of interest from potential overseas clients well it is truly International I mean obviously in the Russian Field there are a lot of Russian buyers but American buyers Middle Eastern buyers European buyers Far East I mean it it's the world the auction ended up topping pre-sale estimates by fetching 7 and a half million e a true Testament to the style and taste of the princess the sale of Princess Margaret's finery came just just 3 years after another Royal collection had gone under the hammer in Paris more than 1,000 items belonging to the late princess Sarah of Iran fetched more than3 million at auction among the Sumptuous collection of magnificent Jewels Egyptian and Roman antiques Oriental art pieces and tapestries were oat Couture outfits intimate photographs wedding presents and a stunning red Rolls-Royce the star of the auction coveted by most buyers was an engagement ring a 22 karat diamond ring by Harry Winston estimated to be valued at between 3 500,000 which went under the hammer for 900,000 other spectacular Jewels a van CLE and ael's yellow gold ring with diamonds and a Bulgari diamond and gold necklace sold for 245,000 and €150,000 respectively princess sah who was renowned for her beauty spent seven years at the Iranian Imperial Court where she was famous for keeping a pet seal in a fountain until her marriage with sha Muhammad resar palavi ended in March 1959 after she remained childless The Story Goes that the Sha was still in love with sah but the pressure to produce an air gave him no choice but to seek another wife although she lost the title of empress the Sha conferred on her the title of royal princess at the age of just 26 rejected by her former subjects she left Iran and became the princess with the sad eyes spending the rest of her life in Exile in Europe she died in Paris in October 2001 almost unnoticed in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks and the war in Afghanistan
