The acting wasn't great and it's slightly hokey, but it's surprisingly poignant.
As for the questions in your title, it sort of reminds me of the foundation for a better life though they may be at their core Christian. Still, they preach a good message and manage to keep it mostly secular.

We've allowed others to bastardize "values" to the point that they have an inherent undercurrent of intolerance. Stuff like this will be the only way to take the word back.

This is an excellent question, but singling out secular groups is unfair. Why don't more religious groups promote things like this? They vastly outnumber us, and it doesn't seem to me that most of them are doing anything this constructive. In my 30 years as a Catholic, I can count on one hand how many times such a valuable lesson was taught or discussed.
