Power Automate Conditional Trigger based on SharePoint List Dropdown Value

hello folks welcome back in this video i will show you how to add conditional trigger in power automate flow based on sharepoint list choice column value so stay tuned and let's go to the demo after the short intro imagine you want to trigger a power automatic flow only when a specific value is selected from a sharepoint list choice column while creating new record in sharepoint list one way to achieve this is to create power automated flow on item created sharepoint trigger and add a logic in the flow itself to check if a particular value from the choice column is selected if that is the case then proceed with the rest of the flow logic otherwise terminate the flow but there is a better option available which will save you the unnecessary trigger of the flow and will keep the flow run history clean as well this is by setting up the conditional trigger value in power automate flow trigger step we can tell the flow that only trigger if following value from a choice column is selected or when a certain condition is met so let's go and see this in action i'm inside office 365 sharepoint sales team side i have a list of customers so if i click on new button here i can enter customer name email address and in the location i can enter three different locations germany uk usa i want power automatic flow to only get triggered when someone selects a uk as a location for that customer so we are doing something particular for that customer which is based in uk that's why we need to run the flow and only the flow gets triggered when this option is get selected on new record creation or even modification i will just cancel that for now if i navigate back to office 365 from the left hand menu i will click on power automate application icon this will take me to the power automate application landing page from where i can create new flows so from the left hand menu i need to select create and now i have been given few different options so because we want this flow to be created when a new record and shape and list gets added i will select automate cloudflow i will give this flow a name i will just call this blow uk customers flow and the trigger is when an item is created in shape only so that's the trigger i will click on create i need to connect to the sales team site so i will select the sales team and the list i need to select the customers list now if i leave this trigger as it is and i continue with the next step for the workflow what will happen is every time a new records are created in that list it will trigger the flow but now we want this to be only trigger when a uk is selected in location column so if i just go back to the list so the column is location just verify the internal name of that column if i click on that setting icon you go to list settings and then if you navigate down and click on this location column now from the menu i can see the field name the schema name for this column is location so this is an important one if you call them have a different display name and schema name just make sure that you take the schema name and use that in the flow so i will just take that location and use it if i go back to power automate flow now what we need to do is we need to click on these three dots in this trigger so if i click on these dots and then i will click on settings here you can see there is specify one or more expression which must be true for the trigger to file this is where we want to put our trigger conditions only one when the selected value in location column is uk so let me show you that regular expression so we need to do equal sign trigger body and this is where we want to put the the name of the column so the schema name and whatever value is going to be equal so if i change this one to location so our column name is location and the value so i will remove this free text and the value we expecting is to be uk so we're saying that when location column value is equal to uk only then run this flow so if i take this copy it and if i go back to the trigger condition if i click on add now i can just paste this one here and click on done now this flow will only trigger when a new customer is created which is based in uk now next step is let's send an email to ourself just to test that it is working fine send an email version two so click on that and i am sending it to myself so i will select my address here and the subject i will put maybe title and space dash and space and then location value and then in the body i'll just say this is just a test and i will click on save so our flow is ready it should only trigger when we create a record in the customer list and we mark the location as uk okay so now if i go back to previous page where i can see the workflow history let me go back to the customers list and i will create two records here now let me create our first record so we click on new let's give this customer a name call it alex and then email address is going to be alex gmail.com and this time i'm selecting location as usa and i'm just putting alex contact number and click on save okay and now if i go and create a one more record this time i'll select location uk and the customer name is paul email address will be paul gmail.com and the location for paul is uk and then the contact number i'll just click on save now if i just go back to the workflow you know just refresh the page okay so now you can see there's only one instance of the flow run successfully because one record was created under uk and one was created under usa so i was expecting it to run only once just for the uk record so now if i go back to my email i can see that the paul uk record email has been sent so again from the workflow if i click on the workflow history and check the detail so the workflow only triggered for the uk record so you can see it here okay so to just wrap this video today you have learned how to add conditional trigger in power automatic flow based on sharepoint this choice column value you can use any other scenarios maybe when a number is greater than this one only then trigger the flow or any other scenario which is required for
