hi everybody it's treats and I have officially finished my 2023 Northbound appalachin Trail through hike and today I want to take you through the gear that made it with me all the way through to katat so this is the stuff that either I picked up somewhere along the way and made it and I'll go through each of it and let you know what I liked and what I didn't like and I will actually probably do some other videos in the future going in depth on my favorite pieces and my least favorite pieces but today we're just going to go on an overview of everything that made it all the way to katad so first I'm going to start out with what I wore every day so I wore my fanny pack this was so great um my hip belts just weren't enough I mean I love them but they didn't hold hold enough for me so I loved this and it was super great um so yeah and then I'll go through all the little things that are in here so I just had a cheap pair of headphones um um I have pair eyewear glasses so basically this was a lightweight alternative to carrying a separate pair of sung glasses just popped them on and they worked great um I actually didn't use them that much um because we're in the green tunnel um but when I needed them it was nice to have them in the main pouch I had my petzel headlamp I loved it the rechargeable battery was great and I actually it never ran out of battery so that was perfect I recharged it when I was in town and never had an issue I always kept the plastic baggie in case it rained to put my phone in um because my phone's it says it's waterproof I don't trust it so I just tucked my phone in this when it started raining I had my mace just saber running mace I'm a runner so I like this one my wallet just a Chums wallet it's a little bit too fat right now um but it was it worked really well sunbal lip balm and my cave face sunscreen when the sun came out and it was bright I would just push it on my face really quick and it was really easy to access so that is the fanny pack plus I mean I love these colors they're very dirty but this thing made it the whole way and it was pretty perfect on all right now for my body for my shoes I wore three different pairs of hooka speed goats the bid tops um I'm super clumsy so I like the mid tops because they give a little bit of ankle protection um my first pair I had worn a little bit before Trail and so I got about 560 miles out of those my second pair I got 9912 miles out of uh the last 100 they were literally like falling apart so I don't recommend wearing them quite that long and then these made it about 700 something miles um I absolutely love these shoes they work for my feet I did have to uh go half size up because my feet were being squished but I love these I love the fun colors they come in and I wear them to I wear the normal Pocas to run in and I love these would totally recommend them if they don't work for everybody but they work for me I think they're great and then these may look a little dirty because I wor them like all the time and I also wore them today um these are my ineni toe socks I before Trail I ran my first marathon and I had super bad toe blisters and I heard that these were the Cure and they were they were great I wore these the almost the entire Trail um this pair actually has a hole in the toe and um they're pretty stiff now so I'll will probably throw them away after this video but they have gone thousands of miles and uh these are the ultra running in ginges these are just a little bit thicker they lasted a little bit longer and I thought that they were more cpy but I Loved These and then these guys I did not start out with these because I thought that the mid tops would be enough to keep out the dirt not the case so I actually got these at the Nila Outdoor Center and wore them every day since because I mean they're so fun they made my feet look fun these are the dirty girl Gators and yeah I love them I'll actually wear them probably running on trails and I'll wear them on future Trails so love these my only thing about these is that the velcro that I put on my shoes my shoes would get so dirty that velcro would come off but I think next time on the next Trail I would just super glue that velcro on for my base layer underwear layer um I had for underwear I had X2 pairs of exofficio underwear they are actually packed in here because I forgot to leave them out um but for my bra I have a brandwin Marino wool bra um a lot of my like athletic wear bras when they get sweaty I get cold and so this helped Wick and it was super comfortable and yeah I really liked it the only thing is that once it got wet um it took a little while for it to dry but it did take it longer to get wet um and I didn't it doesn't smell it doesn't smell as bad as everything else I own but yeah this brandwin Marino W bra was great next up is one of my absolutely favorite pieces of gear that made it all 2200 miles I started at Springer with it and finished at katad with it it is my Jolly gear Wicked weeds shirt I love this shirt if you ran into me on trail and you complimented my shirt you know I love this shirt it is lightweight it is a fun pattern it has thumb holes and it kept me protected from the Sun it has a hood and a little hoodie hole I love this shirt I will get more Jolly gear shirts forever and ever and ever I was going to go out with a Columbia shirt but then I found these guys and I mean don't get me wrong Colombia is a great brand but if I have Jolly gear to choose from with these awesome patterns I will always go back to jol gear um the only thing I will say is that after 2200 miles the back of my shirt did rub I don't know if you can see it on the video but there is rubbing here from my pack and that's expected I mean this shirt I wore it every day literally so but I loveed it would recommend it we'll take these on Long Trails if I do anymore which I think I will for my bottoms and this is for um summer but I mean pretty much once we got out of the Smokies I was pretty much in shorts because sweating so much these are my Patagonia barely baggies I Loved These they dried super quick they were comfortable I have only like two complaints about them and that is that um some days they were really hard to pull down when I had to pee and so that caused some problems a few times and um they do not withstand butt scooting in the White Mountains I actually ripped a hole in them straight up the butt and um I had to sew them a few times and then when my mom show came she sewed them a few times for me so there is a SE hole here um however with how much I butt scooted in these um you can see that they're faded on the back um these were great shorts and I will I will totally get baggies again I love these all right for my head I if it was chilly I was in this that you I didn't this didn't last long on my head um I usually slept in it more but I did wear it sometimes thinking this is my just blaze orange carart beanie I swear by carart beanies they're my favorite but you know everybody teach their own with beanies but I love this one and I fig figured that if I fell off somewhere use it as a flag or somebody could find me in the woods in this for other headwear this I basically wore this every day this is my get Sprints flying pigs hat I am a runner and so I love lightweight hats and again I'm so pale that's why I got the Jolly gear and so my face needed the face protection I knew it would keep bugs out of my hair um so I wore this literally every day I love their patterns they are so much fun they're not boring and um my sweet mom got crafty and she helped me make a ponytail holder through it so that I can put a high pony through my hair because I the low Pony the hair touches me too much and it sticks to me when I sweat so I loved this it was lightweight and honestly 2200 miles and the colors look brand new and I did throw it in the wash a few times so it washes well love it and then even though I wasn't really wearing these um I used them every day and they were on the outside of my pack these are my gossamer gear I think lt5 tracking poles um would not get them again I'll just leave it at that for now they are the lightest poles that I experienced on the trail um but I'm not sure that they're they're worth the cost but um they did serve they did make it um with a few part Replacements and um a few times they were being threatened to thrown off the mountain but they did make it and I did not throw them off do all right let's get into my pack but first I'll make the caveat so I started out the trail uh with an REI quarter Dome Tent um and then in Pennsylvania I sent that tent home because I met somebody on the trail and from basically hot springs on uh I didn't really use my tent so in Pennsylvania I finally sent it home and then we were in a six moons design lunar solo yes we were both in a single person tent um it we fit better in his than we did in mine and then that tent the zipper broke and we were using chip clips and so we sent that away and we ended up with a Big Agnes not sure which one honestly we just picked one that was a two person that was the lightest weight one that was the cheapest one I'm pretty sure it's just their standard two person I think it might be Fly Creek I could be wrong I'll come back and edit this video for this section but um it was great it worked well the zipper worked and yeah we liked that it was um freestanding instead of using the trkking pole method the important part about this is that I did not carry this uh my partner Barbie he carried this and I carried our sleeping pad which I will talk to you a little bit about when I get in the bag but we did like this tent it was really nice I will say that the color I felt like got really dirty but you know it's a ton it's t to be used okay the pack so we are gonna start with the outside of my pack and then we'll delve into this everything on the inside so first we'll start out with these these are my Hoka recovery slides I'm pretty sure that's what they're called um they're about the same weight as Crocs but these are a lot comfier than Crocs I I will wear these after Trail I will wear them for run recovery again Hoka makes they have it right with shoes the support in them these were great the only thing I'd say about these is that when people when friends would do river Crossings in their Crocs because of that back strap that was a lot better than these because these would just slide off but Comfort level wise these are the ticket um okay so these are just some things I have two carabiners on either side these would hold my um my get Sprints hat my I don't know what I'm trying to say my b baseball hat when I didn't want to wear it and so like when I was climbing like in the whites and I couldn't and I my bill sometimes would cause me to like not be able to see well I would just hanging on here with this lightweight plastic Carabiner and then on this one is my Kula cloth this is my pea cloth love this thing ladies or people who squat to pee this makes life so much easier just get one for camping it's so great it's great it would there did get to a point where it started to smell a little bit but I didn't hand wash I would just throw it in the wash with everything else um but also I've used it for 6 months and 2200 miles so I may toss this one now and get a new one but it was great it made life easier and I loved it all right I also have some little trinkets on the outside of my pack um I'm sure the for the the weight the weight weenies the Graham weenies these would not be a thing but they made me happy to see um a friend got me this tag in New York it's a little M&M's tag tag because I am a treat U because my TR was treats and she just wrote a fun little poem on there for me so that's on there I got this custom treats tag from uh Taps she uh her business is called Trek and resin and she makes custom at little resin tags and I love this this um I got this on my pack when we went to Trail days so I was in perisburg on trail but I got it at Trail Days um so yeah I loved it it did a little piece chipped off um but that just means that it made it through the adventure so I love this and I will cherish it um and then this is just my it tag so it really got beat up but all right now for the pocket so this is my six moons tyvec it's just like their standard sized sheet um I when I bought my tent I that was way before I got on trail uh my original quarter Dome and I didn't buy a tent footprint I didn't know any better um so when it came time to go on the trail my T my tent footprint did not exist anymore so I just bought one of these um it worked great for when we were using Barbie well on there's one this worked great when U Barbie and I were sharing his six Moon Designs tent since this is a six moon piece of tyback and then we just kept using it for the Big Agnes one too um and I'll keep it I mean finally got to where it doesn't crinkle as much and it did help with water seepage at the bottom of the top also in my front pocket I kept wipes because you just never know when Nature's going to call and so I wanted easy access to those I used wipes for number two and I like I packed them all out it was just the way the method that worked for me and I felt cleaner um also in the front pocket I I carried my Luco tape the entire time I started I I started out with just strips and then I think at knock I had my mom bring me the whole roll because I was just at that at the beginning I was just getting so many blisters even just I think my feet getting used to everything and this this is the only thing that worked everything else the blister Band-Aids mol skin none of it worked for me but the combination of the aenis and the lucco tape this stuff is a lifesaver I swear by it more wipes these are just left over all right so that's the front pocket um lots of stuff changed in that front pocket as the trail went but that was what I ended up with having in there um on this side I kept my poop kit this is just a little Granite Gear diddy bag it's super lightweight I love these and they were different colors so I knew what color I was going for so in here I have my hand sanitizer that's important um in this little baggie is my menstrual cup I'm not going to pull it out but that was really great way for me to uh handle my period on trail and not have to pack out so much stuff and it worked really well for me and then I have my the deuce travel I thought this was great I mean there were certain ground where I had to like go like this at it um but it worked really well and it was super lightweight and that's that's it this had more stuff in it um at the beginning and then about halfway through I was like you got to clean this out so but these little diddy bags are great in my blue Granite Gear diddy bag this is my water kit blue for water it made sense to me I have my 2 L COK bladder this just made water collection so much easier those Sawyer bags Sawyer I love you all but your bags I don't love but the sco are great and in the beginning I was just filling that up and then filtering it between my legs like holding it just because it was cold to hold but then I got smarter and I got the coupling tool on my Sawyer squeeze and so then I could just twist my smart water bottle in there and then hang my cck and then it would just gravity would do it for me and so that made life a lot easier so this little coupling tool does not come with your Styer you have to buy it separately um but it is it's like $3 and it's a game changer um and then this is just my Sawyer squeeze made it the whole time I did not get any kind of waterborne illness I had friends that were using other filters that did um but yeah I did not have Gardia or anything like that so I highly recommend this thing all right now for the side this is the fat pocket um in this pocket I held one of my smart water bottles both of my smart water bottles made it all the way from Springer and they don't look that bad their Lids I had to clean up but and then so we'll get to this once I get inside in more depth but I ended up getting rid of my bear canister and so when I got rid of that seat I got this little therest sit pad this was just nice to not have to always send the dirt some days I would still just sit in the dirt but um this was nice to have some comfortability it's lightweight it was it was worth it it folded up and then well there goes my spoon so that I wouldn't have to dig for it I got my spoon on the outside um this is just the Ceda Summit titanium spoon it was great it's lightweight I mean you can't really get any better than that and the long handle is the way to go I would eat Idaho and potatoes right out of the bag and my hands were messing um my rain pants so I'm not going to lie I did not use these at rain pants very often um I more used them as windbreakers which was a great use for them they were so lightweight that that was great for me to do um these aren't anything fancy there's something I found off Amazon and they did work um these also ripped in the whites in a few different places you can see there's gray tape on them um so yeah they weren't bad I mean in light rain they were great um in heavier rain I mean everything wet out but they did get me a little bit warmer um so for the 20 bucks I paid for them I got my money's worth and that was great um so yeah and again I mainly use them as a windbreaker pants and they were great for that I don't know if I get them again all right another Amazon find this looks it looks worse than been a did so like the whites destroyed me they also destroyed some of my gears um this I tried a few different things for rain protection I tried a poncho I tried a few different ponchos um and I just didn't want to paid $40 for an ospre rain cover that I knew would wet out eventually anyways so when to Amazon you know you find Handy things there and this was I can't remember what it's called I'll link it below though it's um some kind of $13 rain cover and until the whites it was great it was awesome um the whites I did a lot of butt scooting so not only did my pants ripped uh but I ripped out the whole bottom of this rain cover um but up until then it was doing great and by then I just didn't want to get a new one so I gray taped it as you can see um and it held mostly well for the last little bit of the trail I will totally get another one um it was so worth it I just you know they can only withstand so much butt scooting it did wet out eventually but so does everything else and it wet out just as much as my friends who paid like4 to $75 for a ring cover so but I will toss it now that I've done this video okay these are just my snack Pockets usually these would be loaded down with snacks um the only other thing in here is that when they got buggy I kept my headnet in here honestly I got this as Trail magic um and it was great and yeah it kept the bugs off me um it was and then also in this pocket I just have two little trinkets I have a little gnome and I have a little crocheted mushroom that my friends gave me before I left and they just rode in the pocket with me all right also on the outside I have another extra little Carabiner that at one point had a towel on it um I have this water bottle holder that I got off Etsy can't remember who made it I think it's Justin's UL but I will link it that was a game Cher for me uh if I had had to reach back my tiny little dinosaur arms to get water all the time would have been dehydrated um but having it here where I could just grab it and drink was fantastic and it's super lightweight like you don't this you don't even notice it's there and then here's my other second smart water bottle which also made it from Springer and then this is very important for people who worry this is my garment in reach made it the whole way and I never had luckily never had to press the SOS button but it was helpful when I didn't have service so that I could just send my mom and I'm safe um so that was really nice piece of mind that I could let her know that I was okay all right all right that is the outside of the pack time for the inside all right so about halfway through the trail I got tired of cooking I just it was just too much for me I'm yeah it was a lot so I sent home my stove and my cook kit and I knew that if I really needed to stove for a few things I had friends that would let me boil Waters in theirs which I did do to boil potatoes um but so I switched all that out for a tent jar and I can't do pasta so I couldn't like cold soak Ramen or anything um so I mainly used this for cold soaking oatmeal and it was great I loved it I did lose mine a few times so then I'd have to go get more tenty um but yeah this little container is great I would just shake it to rinse it it was great another Granite Gear diddy bag this is my first aid kit I won't go through everything in here because there's a lot of little things um I did clean it out so I know it looks heavy but I promise you it's less heavy um but the important things are I've got like medication in here I've got my little Dollar Store hairbrush I have a toothbrush I have some extra KT Tape uh I have nail clippers an extra hair tie and the biggest thing in here is that I have a whole tube of hydrocortisone cream and you might say that that's crazy um but at one point I have already I had already gone through a bottle of this because the mosquitoes were so bad this year um so yeah extra weight extra weight that I was worth for me to carry instead of staying up and itching all night yeah little Granite Gear inside of Granite Gear gr weenies don't come for me and I kept that I kept this guy on top because it has all my first aid in it and so in case I needed anything I never did I wanted it easy to access though I did help when I needed an Advil cuz then I could just go in there and grab an Advil or zertek all right I also kep my rain jacket on top this is the same one I started with it is Patagonia I again I'll have all the exact names of what these are down below um I think it's the torrent shell it did get a little warm and it did wet out but you know what I have yet to find a perfect piece of ring here um so if you know something that doesn't wet out let me know um but I I did like it I me it worked well and it it kept me warm on the windy days and I I mean I would I would take it again if unless I found something that didn't wet out so and I think it'll be great for postt trail life too okay so one thing that I did switch out so this is new is I mean I got it in like right after the Smokies um I ditched the bear canister I didn't want to ditch the bear canister I wanted to take it the whole way but I had the smaller one I think it was like the 450 and it just got got to the point where it was not fitting enough food and I was playing Jenga every night trying to fit something in it and I just couldn't validate to myself getting the bigger size and so I swapped for the ear saac um I have the opsac in here so that it's smellproof I got the opsac smellproof bag and then I would put all my food in that and then put it in here and then this just ties to a tree and I will say that um I was one of the only people that continued to tie my food till the end of the trail everyone else I knew was sleeping with it to each their own and um yeah I loved this it was great did not have any the only time I had one issue was when um I didn't tie the top correctly and a mouse got in had a little enjoyed a peanut and an minin and then on my bag but other than that no Critter got in here all right this is also new from that original video so after I started sharing um it was about I think in Herber fairy both Barbie and I sleeping pads just like decided to get holes in them and so at that point we were tired of like one of us ending up in like the crevice between our two sleeping pads so we decided to try out the exped Dual pad so it's basically like a giant pad for two two people and it's not that much heavier than like two pads um I'm not sure the exact weight I'll post like all my weight stuff in a link um so you can look at how much everything weighs but this thing was great I thought it was really comfy I will say Barbie side did start to leak before the end and again we only we got this in herp Berry um and it did start to smell really bad but it was comfy so I mean I liked it I would get it again I wish it was a little bit stronger um we may try and see if we can get him to repair it all right this guy was wonderful this is a stuff sack that I found on on Amazon that doubles as a pillow and I mean this was a game changer for me I don't like the blowup pillows they don't work for me I don't like using the stuff sacks as a pillow so this just like I don't know there was something about this that works for me and I have all my clothes in here I didn't the entire time just because when I had more clothes they wouldn't all fit but most of the time all of them fit in here and it is reversible so it has fuzzy on the outside I started to feel too dirty to turn it inside out uh but it does have that option so inside the stuff sack is my clothes that I wasn't necessarily wearing every day I have my melanzana microfleece I love this thing I carried it the entire Trail people told me I was crazy but this was like a comfort blankie for me and I loved my my Melly and yeah I would get one again yeah Melly all the way um I did carry my puffy all the way I know a lot of people send them home but it was so lightweight that it was like why when I need it I will have it um so this is the Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisper and I didn't actually have to use it that much I mainly used it um maybe a little bit past the smokies and then towards the end a little bit um but yeah I mostly like when you're moving you sweat so much but it it was definitely warm like when it kept me when I was in the smokies and I got cold that when it was like in the like 20s like the low 20s it did keep me warm so I do love this and it's like again it's like nothing so there was I I kept also in here I have my extra in ginges which I got in Pennsylvania just cuz I didn't think those purple ones were going to make it the whole way but I did I made them make it the whole way um yeah they're the same kind of in ginges they're the ultra run kind they're just a different color I did start having some pretty bad foot pain through Pennsylvania I think in combination with the rocks and I had a shoe that was too small um because my feet had started to get bigger and so I did get these little cheap sleeves off Amazon they're only like 10 bucks but they're for planner faciitis which is something that I've had problems with in the past and um they're just I think they're just little compression sleeves but they helped and so I did carry them the rest of the way and especially on my right foot I wore at least one of them every day here are my exofficio underwear I was telling you about um these were great I mean I they felt like they stretched out this pair this pair was newer than this pair like I already had this pair when I went on trail and it looks like I rolled in the dirt with them um but they were great they breathed well and I didn't have any issues with them so and then sleep socks I know everybody probably these are extra weight for people I like my feet warm at night I I one of those crazy people that likes to sleep with socks on and so when I got to Camp if I was cold putting these on even if I had wet feet was a game changer and so yeah I carried these all the way they're just SmartWool thick socks I love them I I still wear them to sleep now so yeah it's everything that was in this little stuff sack again this little stuff sack was on Amazon and I'll link everything in case anything you're interested in but yeah this was super great for a pillow stuff sack this is my electronics bag um this is Hartford gear Co I found this on uh garage grown gear I just liked the color I'm not going to lie and it looked like it might be a little waterproof um and it held my water my electronics great I think it is a little bit waterproof and then I would just make sure it was stuffed in my bag so that it was uh and my electronics never got wet and so in there I have my big anchor power bank I was told at Neil's Gap that this is too heavy but I wanted to carry it it was worth it I never had any issues with anything dying and yeah this was awesome um I also have this big heavy anchor thing um for the plugs and it but it held every plug that I wanted and it was small and it wasn't going to if somebody else needed to plug in something it wasn't going to take away plugs from them and then these are all my cords I had to plug in my Garmin I had to plug in my headlamp my phone and then my in reach oh and then the power bank and so this I mean this just has everything so there's one two three four cords might be more than other people want but this got me where I needed to be KT Tape I did not carry this the whole way I got more KT Tape in the whites um because I had sent mine home because nothing had been hurting me um but the whites destroyed my knees and so I got more I swear by this stuff I think it's great and I love the fun colors um these are my gloves um I honestly didn't use these like past the Smokies but I thought I would because my hands get really cold and they just sat in the bottom of my bag I honestly kept forgetting that they were there so these went the whole way they were fine they they weren't anything special but they were fine all right almost last but not least um this is my quilt it is an Enlightened Equipment 10 Dee quilt with the little draw cord it's an enigma um I like the toe box again my feet get so cold so the toe box was really a game changer for me um yeah and I sent home my um my liner but I kept my bag the entire time and I mean I think that when it was really really hot in the summer since I was sharing a tent I just didn't even use a sleeping bag we got Barbie had like a he swapped out his and so we both just shared that because it was so warm um but yeah this quilt was amazing um I don't think I will ever unless somebody uh changes my mind somehow um I don't think I'll ever not have a light Enlightened Equipment I just love it um it was super light and it was super warm and I get I sleep really cold so and then it was just in a Ceda Summit event waterproof sack because it's down and I wasn't chancing at getting wet so I did stuff it in here I know some people just line their bag with theirs this this is not that heavy so and I kept it made sure it was dry other than that there's just my liner which is a big compactor bag game changer because then when everything would get wet as long as this was kind of rolled up nothing inside of this would get wet and that like the simplest thing that you can do is keep your stuff dry with this like it's a giant trash bag so yeah get one one of these and then just replace it I had um my friend bring me another one when she met me um right outside of Rutland um and yeah this was like the simplest piece of gear that can be a game changer besides that I have two little extras that I did carry with me the entire way I carried my appalachin trail passport um I love stamps and a friend gave this to me before I went on on trail to get all the stamps and I did it did get wet at one point so it's really soggy but uh it's not soggy anymore but like you can see where everything's smeared um and somebody just told me that that adds character and you know what I mean that's that's how I got to take it so I did carry this the whole way and then I they also told me to get rid of this at Neils Gap um I did not because I'm stubborn um but this is my little watercolor Sketchbook I ended up only doing like a painting and a half um but it was still worth it for me to carry it and have it with me in case I got the time um to actually sit and paint um I actually spent a lot more time like engaging and enjoying other people than I thought I would I'm a big introvert so I thought I'd spend more time kind of hiding away in painting um but I'm really glad that I actually didn't spend as much time painting and I spent more time with people and enjoying the trail and I'll still fill up this Sketchbook as I relive moments from the trail through my photos but this did come along um the entire way so yeah that's everything in my pack um it was an absolutely amazing adventure um oh wait I forgot a piece of gear ha probably one of the most important ones my pack oh this pack was great I named it scale um because it looks like a dragon scale or a mermaid scale um it OS sprays are hearty um and and I so I knew that I could trust it they have great customer service um I knew I wanted something with a frame uh for my first through hikee so it was breathable I mean it's a little bit heavier than some of those ultral light things but this worked so well for me I didn't have any issue with it everything stayed together the only thing that ripped a little bit was this and again that was from me butt scooting through the whites um and I swear by ospray I will never not swear by ospray uh when I do other trails in the future I may try and get some some ultral light packs but um for weekends for your first through hike for my day hikes My Day hike pack is an osprey yeah ospre is the way to go these things are the bomb um okay yeah so that is officially that's all the gear uh my through hike was absolutely amazing I will go into more detail about the adventure itself in some other videos but if you have any questions about any the gear I used or you want me to go into more detail just let me know leave a comment below thanks for watching and this is treats signing out for now go enjoy a treat treat yourself
