I'm now to celebrate mass before the largest crowd ever assembled for such an event and what a time we are going to have good morning everybody I'm Bill Beutel and I'm Roz Abrams welcome to our special coverage of the papal visit this has been an extraordinary week for Catholics in our area and for Pope John Paul the second and on this is final day in our area the pontiff will celebrate Mass before more than a hundred thousand of the faithful with another two hundred thousand watching the event on Jumbotrons in the north meadow of Central Park the faithful have been around they've been awake for a very long time already they began flocking to Central Park very early this morning one of those one among them was Tim Minton our reporter and he's live now on the Great Lawn good morning Tim good morning bill and it has been a long morning here indeed as I approached the park on Central Park West well before daylight today there were buses along the entire Central Park West and all of those people had already come out they were lining up along the wall the west wall of Central Park West presumably a similar wall on the east side and then people continue to come out of subways and out of buses to give you an idea of the scene what it looks like now we're going to take you across the field it is now full in fact they've closed the gate so people who are not in yet cannot get in at this point for security reasons and you can see there the giant screens are set up on each side of the alter the entire Great Lawn has filled they have been listening here to a musical program for much of the morning that is now over it's been running largely unscheduled they had said that the Holy Father would in fact be here at this time but we now understand that he is leaving the residence and you can see if that canopy Den trance is the Vatican's residence in New York City on 72nd Street he has a short tour to come through the park before he arrives at the Great Lawn and suffice Emily I want to run or a moment because the the Pope is now coming down Fifth Avenue in the popemobile and he's on his way you can hear the crowds along Fifth Avenue and cheering him as as I say he's in the popemobile now it looks to be about though I would guess it's about 68 68 Street maybe 72nd Street now this is the he's entering entering the park at 72nd Street you can see him if you're on watching television you can see him if you can't you're not watching television if you're in the middle of the park you be assured he's on his way the motorcade and long motorcade with security vehicles behind him and 120,000 people waiting on the the great lawn to see him and something like they say maybe another hundred thousand and on the north meadow Tim pointed out didn't you Tim that they've closed the park already to those people who care to come who want to come for the concert and them and the mess and I must point out we've left we have left the picture of the pulpit real for a moment I must point out that the concert has been a sunrise concert going on since about sunrise I guess this morning and it has been absolutely beautiful they've been some of the best and most well-known recording stars in the country in the world for that matter that came out this morning in the very early morning hours and put on this terrific sunrise concert Natalie Cole was there thing in the Battle Hymn of the Republic and that was just a few moments ago into a suspect that for some of the people that was so moving we're gonna try and share it with you this morning by the way bill we've talked about hundreds of thousands of people and this happens to be the largest event for the Pope during his pastoral visit here in the United States and in a lot a lot of ways it is the climactic moment isn't it the United Nations was climactic in one way because he was speaking to the diplomats gathered from around the world this morning he's speaking to 120,000 to 120,000 people of the faithful who came to see him and look at they look at the wonderful construction they have there I'm not quite sure which it looks like an overhead view but I think that's a straight-on view we are joined as always on these broadcasts this morning with father John Couture who's the executive director of the Christopher's good morning dr. father good morning bill it's good to be with you again Tim mitten wants to say a few more words back out to him since he is there timber sorry to interrupt no that's quite all right bill just to get back to your point you were looking at a head-on view the archdiocese actually has hoped that people would see an aerial view but it's not clear for security reasons that any media helicopters will show it to you if you were able to see an aerial view and as you look at Mayor Giuliani there he is up on stage what he can see and there's his wife and his son Andrew the mayor has said he has been so pleased that his children have been allowed to meet the Pope and participate in this event what he can see from the front and what some of the people in this crowd can see is a giant golden cross it's really a carpet that is laid out from one end of the Great Lawn to the other and then crossed somewhere in the middle of the crowd that is not it of course there you're looking at a picture of the altar but this giant carpet cross created some difficulties for the organizers because of the rain they had to cover first the ground with plastic than not that got wet they had to squeegee it off at some great difficulty then they put the carpet down then they put more plastic that is really the centerpiece of this outdoor Cathedral that people here will be able to see and as I say from the air would be a tremendous view it's difficult to make out in this picture but it is a stripped down through the middle of the crowd beyond that the weather here is holding up quite nicely it was misting somewhat earlier this morning but now it is simply overcast good news for those who might have been concerned about heat causing problems it's supposed to be a fairly warm day later today but at the moment it is cool the overcast blocking the Sun it is not raining almost a perfect day as the altar at the far end of the park and you're looking at that now is brilliantly illuminated it almost shines brighter because of the overcast sky that you can see there at the top of picture and Tim isn't it isn't it amazing that we've had practically every kind of New York weather except snow since the Pope arrived here we had what was it rain on the Thursday evening all a great deal of rain yesterday so much heat that some people became became ill Furman this morning it's a gray and overcast and feels as though it's threatening to rain but I think it's not going to do that it's going to be just cool I think this particular mass is to encourage young people and father when you say encourage young people encourage them to stay away from the things that can bring them down that was the theme of the Denver meeting in 1993 the Pope said young people are throwing away their lives and he's into the drug subculture and all kinds of problems but he's trying to say to them accept the challenge of Christ and come into the light and be strong and resist the culture that is a culture of death these themes will be announced we have 60,000 young people at this particular congregation 120,000 in oil but 60,000 them have been convened they taken them in from more of a high schools and grammar schools throughout the metropolitan area happily joining us this morning and probably having a wonderful time where she is out there is Bertha Coons but Bertha come in where are you we are a little bit back if you could see I'm not sure how you can see as far as this overhead shot right here we're in a spot where the popemobile is going to go by so we are very excited here and everyone is now getting pretty excited it looks like he's getting within view I'd frankly can't see him laughs turn it off the television and the jumbotron as are many people here one vote woman this warming told me it doesn't matter where she is it doesn't matter if she could even see the Pope personally to be here for this event is to be on holy ground for her she says to be part of something really wonderful birthday before we went on the air I I heard you saying there was somewhere that the Pope was not going to be using the popemobile within such Central Park on the Great Lawn do you know if that's that's true William Bratton is Bertha we can act on you see the Holy Father now he is Bertha we can actually see the Holy Father now he is in the popemobile as always looking fantastic waving to the crowd Roz I think we may actually be in a spot when he will come right by we are right near the center aisle at the very very far northern end of the Great Lawn we'll stay with you for life you're very excited right now hoping to catch a glimpse of him lots of folks firing up their cameras we are we are reminded aren't we Bertha that we have not mentioned that the fact we're here is for a mass in Central Park could be one of the most wonderful and the biggest masses that any of us have ever seen I believe in now he's pulling up in front of the altar and I think grab the property you can see him better than weekend can you not Bertha no I don't think Bertha can see she doesn't have a monitor and she's quite far back in that crowd but he can actually sit down in the popemobile but he seems to love standing and waving and making sure that it's a nice view of him now the plans call for him to make a circuit of the Great Lawn I believe that's going to be not difficult to take a bit of time and that is what he's doing it installs as you possibly can to the people under 20,000 definitely that we know about because 120,000 tickets were given out to the papal mass and that would be in the Great Lawn north meadow is open for some other other people may be as many as eighty or a hundred thousand race a but for the city you're not allowed in I guess I guess they put off the gates if you don't have tickets to the Great Lawn or to the north cut off a couple of really nice things will happen during this mass one of the things that I'm looking forward to is that during communion Placido Domingo will be singing and his voice as we are all familiar with everything that they see panis angelicus that means the bread of a which is the Eucharist which is the Holy Communion and I was just noticing the popemobile it's really designed to be bulletproof to protect him from any unusual attack and he just opens the window and means up he disregards thanks to the horror I think it's yeah he would probably the pontiff has invited or arranged to invite many people from different religions different Christian religions and non-christian religions and one name sticks up Charles Colson was invited we may not remember Charles Colson he's representing what is called the Prison Fellowship Ministries water-feature ministries for those in prison Colson was involved in the Watergate scandal more than 20 years he spent some time in prison and then became a very active Christian missionary among CBN he's I don't know if he's here but he's been invited as a representative of the Prison Fellowship Ministries the district note for your path look at those hands Oh kids that I tell you they love him he loves them one of the bigger parts of the mass that we're going to watch of course is to communion an eight hundred priests are going to be here to assist in giving communion at the giant Stadium and at the the other venues where we've given community where the Pope has given communion there have been something on the order of 400 priest but this is approximately twice as big as anything we've had so far the dominance of young people yes they've given they've been given special tickets allocated for them and they've they've all responded like 60,000 60,000 they're really thrilled to be here you want to join us now Roz on the tickets the issue was interesting because apparently it was a very hot ticket as you would imagine and a lot of the tickets were handed out by lottery the children got them at the schools others got them in various parishes and the city got some and gave them away there are white and blue and green and red tickets the Reds are for VIPs the rest are somewhere further back and some of them are way far back so far back that some of the people were actually on not only what is the Great Lawn are in fact watching this also on television in keeping with Pope John Paul's known appreciation and fondness and love for young people the musical warm-up that began here a couple of hours ago started with the voices of children there the New York archdiocese own children's choir helping to wake a crowd that began lining up through the night [Music] followed later by harlem's Boys Choir the young New Yorkers are among dozens of regular people chosen to appear on the Pope's giant stage months in planning but barely two weeks under construction the covered altar contains hundreds of microphones and lights 17,000 VIP chairs are nearby up to a hundred thousand other people can sit on a drying out Great Lawn the physical setup and the enormity is several times larger than the other events we've had longer to prepare for it it was conceived as a larger larger production if you will and it's going to be a fabulous thing first [Music] as daybreak delivered a misting rain Roberta Flack was the first of a trio of popular artists to welcome the faithful [Music] Jon Secada came next followed by Natalie Cole who first sang then less than a half hour ago introduced mayor Giuliani the things that divide us are nothing in comparison to that which unites us what is holiness is termed an inherent moral logic a recognition that we are all one in the eyes of God then just before 9:00 and all-star grand finale [Music] [Applause] [Music] dad now you our greatest star is the Pope himself and there he is and in the great launch central park he has left the popemobile and he's supposed to begin mass in about 15 minutes and maybe he will do that earlier than that but I think not he he loves to walk among the people does he not and and have contact with him and he I would expect was going to do a little bit of that in one way or another Giuliani spoke of that what's unites us and he unites us it was wrong he no Sam thank you to God we continue to prepare ourselves and our pin down begin to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice Eucharist good morning and good continuation [Applause] the tens of thousands have begun to get but they came here for that as a site of Pope John Paul the second no rain no wind no Sun just a perfect morning for the Pontifical Mass in Central Park you can hear people saying john paul ii we love you in the background and john paul ii and the European custom was applauding the people who came to see him now did he just step up there to let everybody know that he was there I believe so yes a simple greeting from a very complex matter now who's the Cardinal walking with [Music] [Applause] this is a great moment for him know by way of explanation that briefly the pulpit would be vested with some other [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the other principle cell authorities remain silent let's look at some of the faces of New York you know they're on the jumbotron yeah this person is not cell for himself he's not notice she's in transplant at the presence of the Pope and I think he's I think he's leaving and leaving for for these vesting now and in about ten minutes if the schedule is adhered to and surprisingly enough they he has the Pope and the people who planned for and stuck very close to the schedule over all these well this being the fourth day over all these four days the schedule has not been violated if you can violate a skin and during the North Meadow is Doug Johnson our reporter Duggar people still coming into the north meadow is that closed down too no bill actually this is probably the one venue in the entire visit of the Pope where the crowd has been underestimated tens of thousand have been expected here and there's room for them in this area but I would say now it would be more like several thousand people who have come here perhaps two things could have been a factor the early morning rain made it a difficult place to be especially when they knew they weren't going to be in the proximity of the Pope and secondly we have known that if you didn't have tickets you couldn't come to Central Park that may have been misunderstood nevertheless a lot of people have come here and if you are still filing in perhaps some coming from the other venue where they realized that they were too late and couldn't get in anymore but we're gonna talk to some people who are here now how about you sir good morning everything good so you're here at the rainy morning and you're here in Central Park yeah that's right why is that well just see the Pope and the rain doesn't mean a thing fact we need the rain this part of the country so it's good so to see them here on these thin this large screen and this Jumbotron is to be part of this no sure it beats stayin at home I'm sure it does how about you people over here he's trying to unite all unities of faith until the year 2000 this is the most exciting moment for all of America we're just happy to be here just be part of this to be part of it our whole family we're so happy and those are your children over there part of this bundled up there in the rain but still still apparently quite happy to be here how about you ma'am the even though you're about 15 blocks away I guess from the poem it's still meaningful to be we still feel his presence his holiness yes he touches our hearts we love Him so this is this is blessed ground to them blessed ground amen how about you sir yes I am a tourist I come from both white and it's a coincidence that the Pope today is here he was once in your way and I'm seeing he have the chance to see him again here in Central Park well I'm glad you're here sir and most of these people are very happy to be here even though there's some distance from the Pope the crowd not what it was estimated but people are still filing in we're here in the North meadow back to you and I guess there's a little bit of room in the north meadow for those people who might still care to join us in Central Park in that part of Central Park good bill we keep hearing over and over again that what's unites the mayor just said it the people that Doug was talking to is it my imagination I don't his visit has made me a feel better about myself feel better about my city maybe because I do so many hours a day but do you sense I don't know if it's a union but something very nice in this city as a result of hopes to be here I don't think the holy father could come to the city and be seen as much as he has been seen without having a very important and almost visceral impact on the city itself you know we have so many problems in the city we tend to talk doubt talk the city down but when we are called upon when New York City is called upon to come up with a celebration and observance a recognition of a great thing a great person a great event we do it better than anybody else you know [Laughter] he's very nice bill but we are going to check in with her right now happy good morning rosin as we've mentioned this is the largest crowd that the Pope will be addressing during his visit here and security of course is a big problem everyone who entered the park this morning had their bags checked and went through a metal detector but most of them didn't seem to mind they want this event to be safe and peaceful well before dawn security was already in place and visitors were streaming into Central Park there were multiple layers of security police and Secret Service checking bags and tickets get to go through the what they call the magnetron yeah yes do you feel funny about that I feel that it's necessary I wish it weren't it's necessary we have a precious person here that needs protection so you're willing to have your bag searched definitely without a doubt no probably because of location many of those attending today came by subway transit police set up a mobile arrest unit in case there were problems we have arrest teams assigned to facilitate the arrest we can go into an arrest mode at any time that we deem it necessary we have arrest processing bus here on-site right now it's used as a command center but if we deem it necessary we can turn it to an arrest processing center there were also many volunteers who came to help the out of towners today about 40 West Point cadets were giving directions it was an opportunity for us to get out and serve the community a little bit as well as be a part of the papal mass which is a ems was prepared to treat any injuries but was hoping the weather and the location would work to their benefit what's helping us is that the park is so large and all the put all the paths over here that the crowds are moving much freely much much faster than yesterday so there's no long we don't have that we also have a lot of vendors here with good food and also soft drinks and coffee and so forth that helps out well if you're not attending the mass today and if you're watching this you are not be aware that many of the streets on the Upper West Side are closed off as well as on the east side now this is Central Park West here behind me you can see that this is closed for this entire section that is affected by the papal mass we are standing on 81st Street one of the many frozen zones frozen by police so traffic will be difficult today if you are trying to drive around the city we're live on the Upper West Side back to you in the studio that is a phrase we hadn't heard before frozen zones at all sounds like an ice-cream cone so I'm sorry but all through the past couple of days we've heard our reporter saying well this is a frozen zone if if you had some questions about that that means you simply cannot go in there it's frozen away from your possibility or right to drive on it temporarily come back after a while Bertha Coombs is in the crowd Bertha come in hi Roz you know yesterday having been an aqueduct I was amazed at how happy people were to be part of a crowd you know New Yorkers are notoriously edgy when it comes to standing in long lines and having to wait a long time you really don't see any of that here without a ticket it is impossible to get into this morning's papal Mass but a mixture of faith and hope made this New Jersey woman brave a midnight pilgrimage to Central Park anyway wonderful Christian family gave us tickets to get in it was wonderful many who had tickets beforehand didn't realize until this morning where they would be sitting the kids from st. Paul schools in Staten Island actually thought they were far away from the Pope even though they're in the front section well to other people this may be close because some people don't look with our camera let me show you where there are other people sitting you see where those trees are back there all those people there yeah I see behind those people that's where other people are sitting that's B that's right so we are kind of close Commissioner William Bratton is responsible for making sure that everything goes smoothly for today's mass in the park but as a Catholic even he is moved to be part of this event I think today is going to be quite an event D just the environment for one Central Park and that altar up there is incredibly beautiful it's just morning like this with the mist is incredible when you look at that through the mist I guess what's even more phenomenal is just the spirit among people here everyone really feels like they're part of one community and I guess that's what makes these things so special one woman told me I don't care if I can't see the Jumbotron I don't care if I can't see the Pope if he's this big just to be on holy ground and being part of this is important enough for her to do birthday birthday talk father Couture Bertha talked about one community just very briefly there's a great deal of humanism as I did write ago word the ecumenical feeling here at this Pontifical Mass and that is one of the goals is there not some where some were far the distance in the Christian churches for them to be brought together one community the Pope just issued an encyclical that all may be one the words of Jesus at the Last Supper that it he spoke about the sin of division that we really should be more than just friendly with one another we have to work to some kind of an organic unity and and we have many differences that have to be resolved but not too many people realize theological groups from each faith have been working and refining and understanding our differences so that we can come closer maybe as Giuliani said a few moments ago about a half an hour ago there are more things if you notice and there are that divide us and Jesus Christ unites us but that is for the Christian community and then God the Father unites all the rest because we're all children under the same father one big umbrella one big we are waiting as you know I think for the celebration of the mass the Pontifical mass and this would be correct me if I'm wrong father I believe this will be the third Pontifical mass since the Pope arrived or there was one on that's right on Thursday a giant stadium another yesterday you can't have a mass when the Pope's there that isn't Pontifical because it just describes the fact that it's what was waiting while we're waiting we want to share something with you that was truly wonderful the mass choir this morning which included everyone from Roberta Flack to Natalie Cole to the boys the Harlem Boys Choir in New York Archdiocese children's choir they did a rendition of Battle Hymn of the Republic we want you to hear it [Music] in the beauty of the lilies Christ [Music] Laurie [Music] [Music] as he died to make men holy [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] one of the really great songs [Music] and we going down to buy music from the author and this is a very recognizable him very recognizable I'm afraid the title of this case but it's been we done we done it's been a fantasy through the HIPAA novel of course didn't write these words I guess not so the procession should be coming up soon right now yes this is the announcing of the theme of the mass which is joy to the world this is the Archdiocese of diocesan adult choir 225 singers from different parishes all through the Archdiocese of New York and some of the music you're going to hear from these people is a new music because we commissioned it and wrote it because of the occasion of the Pope's visit to the New York area [Music] no one [Music] recession began well [Music] this is the procession up to the altar am I not right by the Keturah and that is the book the the reading of the gospel that will be read later during the course of the Eucharist you last night at the seminary the Pope said open the doors of your heart that the Lord may enter and bring you his joy so we're all asked at this time to open our hearts to the Lord so that he can bring us his joy his presence now this is a procession to the altar and I normally we pointed out the other day that the highest-ranking liturgy would be at the end of the procession and that would be the Pope of course but it perhaps he will not be at the end these are these are my own questions because the Pope is at the altar of waiting for the procession yes you'll see there was a legion the these are dignitaries from the Episcopal from the Protestant from the Greek Orthodox yes and next to the Pope of course is Monsignor Marini the mad master of untypical ceremony and he is with him when whenever the Pope says mass or says a public Mass I guess yes he's already at the chair and so it is underway interesting to note that there are four young women young girls who are acolytes at this mask well we haven't seen the new I haven't seen them either looking for them but they are listed as part of the procession and that is unusual that's so cool that's to be fair as of this year brand new great long time coming they were very happy that it has come you and a lot of young ladies yes they belong there New York area become very familiar over the past four days with that face that we're looking at right now face of Pope John Paul II John Paul the second [Music] basically visit once that Warren were compassionate deeply involved in prayer he must be I'm sure he's had a good night's sleep but we were saying how we're a bit tired and we're sitting here in a studio this man is glad-handing with millions of people and it's must take a toll we have mentioned a couple of times several times over the past four days the ability of the man to maintain the pace that is required to do this in and around New York every time I see him at nine o'clock in the morning there's he's gonna be generally you know mother Teresa and her age she's so frail you just wonder how she did it she's going going going and at the end of a long day after of pouring herself out the sisters town and she goes right to the chapel and spends a holy hour doesn't think about how tired she is to just thanks the Lord for the day this man does the same thing he's had two hours of Prayer every morning and at the end of the day he spends a good bit of time reading his divine office and praying and I think they get energized through prayer so let's listen to to the ceremony in Central Park under 20,000 people watching [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] just by way of identification you saw a and a cardinal tall man with gray hair East Cardinal hickey of Washington DC will attempt to identify those Cardinals that we can as they as they come into and he of course would be the leader of the New York archdiocese and that's where this is being done the Archdiocese of New York second timer has been serviced in the Archdiocese of Newark Kristen yesterday of you at the st. Joseph's seminary Dawkins [Music] during his stay you've been in events in venues in other archdiocese the Archdiocese of Newark and archdiocese equip them [Music] he's still at the processional entries him mass will begin because oh the procession is surely Cardinal law on the left from the velocity news and they some of these Cardinals are the the principle settlements not the major settlement with principal Cardinal O'Connor is one of McConnell sadhana was the Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal William Peter of Baltimore Bernhard Cardinal law of Boston Garden Peter mentioned a Edwin Carly Joker who is who runs the Vatican finances right that's right he's going to be a con celebrant normally from Detroit right another polish person yes and they will be principal if not the central celebration the celebration with the Pope [Music] so cation that believe the ceremony is about to begin so let us listen in the name of the father of the son of the Holy Spirit peace be with you most Holy Father your own eyes have now seen and your ears have heard the Magnificent outpouring of love our people have for you no words of mine are needed to express what has already been demonstrated no words would be adequate yesterday in Brooklyn Holy Father you asked if New York is ready for the mystery of God today we promised you that under your leadership we will try our very best each day of our lives especially our young people always to be ready for the mystery of God Holy Father you have our deepest gratitude our loyalty and our support you make our land holy with your presence pope john paul ii we love you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] my brothers and sisters to prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries let us call to mind our sins [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] mayor Moulton may Almighty God have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] let us play poor fertile or your grace in your hearts once through the message of an angel you revealed to us the incarnation of Christ you sound now through his passion and work and cross and the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary lead us to the glory of his resurrection we ask this through our Lord the papal mass in Central Park and we returned returned you to it on channel 7 [Music] [Music] [Music] the Lord be with you a reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee named Nazareth to a virgin be throw to a man named Joseph of the house of David the Virgin's name was Mary upon arriving the Angels said to her rejoice o highly favorite daughter the Lord is with you blessed are you among women she was deeply troubled by his words and one did what his greeting meant the angel went on to say to her do not fear Mary you have found favor with God you shall conceive and bear a son and give him the name Jesus great will be his dignity and he will be called son of the Most High the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father he will rule over the house of Jacob forever and his reign will be without end Mary said to the angel how can this be since I do not know man the angel answered her Holy Spirit come upon you and the power of the most high will overshadow you hence the holy offspring to be born will be called son of God know that Elisabet your king's woman has conceived a son in her old age she who was thought to be sterile is now in her sixth month for nothing is impossible with God Mary said I am the maid servant of the Lord let it be done to me as you say with that the angel left her the gospel of the Lord [Music] come Holy Spirit dear brothers and sisters my friends in Christ today's liturgy is full of references to the Holy Spirit even as we pray for a spirit to come among us he's already here he's here in so many of you he's here above all in the action of the mass the most sacred Rite of our faith you are here I trust not out of simple curiosity to see the Pope but because of the mass because the Holy Spirit is leaning to us to Christ for me it is a great joy to look out at so many wonderful people and to greet Cardinal O'Connell and all the Cardinals and the bishops from the New York metropolitan province and our square as well as all the priests religious and laity of the Archdiocese of the the leaders of the various religious denominations and the civil authorities of the state and city of New York my wall and affectionate greetings go to the sick and to the handicapped among us and it is especially wonderful to see so many young people I can hardly believe we are not back in Denver general which was such a enriching experience so many thousands of young people astonished everyone with a spirit and their faith I remember clearly that many many people wondered and worried that the young people of America would not come to the world you tell or if they did come that they would be problem instead the young people's joy the hunger for the truth they desire to be united all together in the world of Christ made clear to everyone that many very many young people of America have values and ideas which seldom make headlines is it any wonder that the part that the Pope loves you [Applause] el papa cotton tiene los hijos de Casas de gracia the language paniolo muchos de ustedes an acid a ki-hwan vivido mucho tiempo y otros Anegada basra sentiment pero todos de Aranjuez various de su herencia cultural profundamente a goddess and a tradition católica concern van Rivas a Sofia yes aa cultura I know this is not Danville this is New York a great great New Year this is Central Park [Applause] the beautiful surround surroundings of Central Park invite us to reflect on inverse sublime beauty the beauty of every human being made in the image and likeness of God the beauty that is God living in our hearts through the Holy Spirit but then well we meditated on this new life I came that they may have life and have it abundantly in Manilla last year just last January millions of young people gathered to meditate on how that new life in the Holy Spirit makes us a postures of Christ's Kingdom as the father has sent me so I am sending you and now today here in Central Park we are continuing the same spiritual pilgrimage getting ready for for the next World Youth Day in Paris in 1997 I'm very grateful for all that is being done in parishes and dioceses all over the world to bring young people into the spirit of this great spiritual pilgrimage across the world which started in Rome in 1980 1984 dong brought us to Buenos Aires in Argentina to Santiago de Compostela in Spain to s Nagar and just over in Poland to Denver to Manila and next to Paris Paris the ecumenical level a similar spiritual pilgrimage is made at the same in France driving force all this movement of young people is always the cold spirit I invite you to reflect on what makes it so is one of you truly marvelous and unique only human being like you can ting and speak and share your thoughts in different languages with other human beings all over the world and through that language express the beauty of art and poetry and music and literature and the theatre and so many other uniquely human accomplishments and most important of all on God's precious human beings are capable of loving now nice us seek what is good love makes us better persons it is love that prompts men and women to marry and foreign family their children it is love a tranche others to embrace the religious life or become priests love makes you reach out to others need whoever they are wherever they are every genuine human love is a reflection of the love that is God himself to the point for the first letter of st. Paul and st. John says the man without love as know nothing of God for god is love [Applause] today is the Feast of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary the readings of the mass introduce us to the first three Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary three fundamental moments of salvation history three stages along the way of the Holy Spirit's created passage through human history the Annunciation the visitation and the birth of Jesus the first leading Saint Paul writes to the Galatians but when the designated time had come God sent forth his son born of a woman this fewer st. Paul tells us what Saint who prescribes greater length in the gospel the visit of the Archangel Gabriel the virgin named Mary in the town of Nazareth in Galilee he invites her to become the mother of the Redeemer the gospel tells us not only that Mary was surprised and confused by the words of the angel but that she was afraid yes Mary was afraid just as we are often afraid and the intercept do not fear Mary for you know found favor with God it is the power of the Most High that will come upon you and by the power of the Holy Spirit you become the mother of the Son of God in the creative power of God is the world at the moment of conception of air everyone being in the Annunciation the spirit accomplished something incomparably greater in the womb of the Virgin Mary the spirit created a man to be born nine months later in Bethlehem who from the first moment of this conception was the eternal son of the Father the word through whom all things visible and invisible were made eternal wisdom the archetype of everything that exists in creation Mary realized who it was that was calling her all fear was banished and she she replied I am the servant of the Lord let it be done to me as you say and at that instant she became the mother of the Son of God this is the extraordinary truth that we meditate on in the first mystery of the Rosary the anesthesia all this happened so that st. Paul says he might be redeemed and might receive that as God's sons and daughters in Christ the Holy Spirit makes us God's beloved children the incarnation of the Son of God happened once and is unrepeatable repeatable divine adoption goes on all the time to the church the body of Christ and particularly through the sacraments through baptism penance the Eucharist and of course the sacrament of Pentecost that we call confirmation and then st. Paul writes something very striking the proof that we are God's children is that he has sent forth into our hearts the spirit of his son which cries out Abba Father Abba Abba Father this is our prayer every time we say the Our Father but we have to say it in the spirit with a clear awareness awareness that in Christ we are no longer slaves but children and therefore health with Christ to his kingdom this new condition for us as Christians that is our transformation to grace and our sharing in divine life itself will reach its full even in eternity then we shall share the happiness with which God Himself is happy Father Son Holy Spirit do you see do you see how important it is to involve the Holy Spirit and to allow him to work in us we must remember that the Holy Spirit can do great things for us and the Holy Spirit does creating for us everyday la próxima tapa el pasaje del espíritu Santo ESA misterioso sol de la visitation empezar de Porres perrito Santo de Sarasota more Vienna de Moura so prima Isabelle Kavya conseguido Nijo ensue Vera's Maria de Almeida cement la seguridad de su propio gar ocular Aladar izybelle imagina la sorpresa delaria escuchar a suprema decir de donde me que la madre de mission your vendor a port a apenas diego a me Zoe dos huevos de tu salud Oh Santo Dios mío Anisa no Sania Erik Juan Bautista el mejor de los profetas qué daría testimonial rezo's al commences Vida public entonces Maria pronzo as palabras de Magnificat na mo saw him know the gratitude a L'Orange Andrade's a Alma arsenio mes Pedersen a grandiose miss Alvaro a Largo de los tiempos de Gracia repeated or DEA's Magnificat in Okayama was a little theodora's tal vez NOS palabras was important as - admirably in Ozone Miraval mara videos Pedrosa sand like Mary you must not be afraid to allow the Holy Spirit to help you become intimate friend Friends of Christ like Mary you must put aside any fear in order to take Christ to the world in whatever you do in marriage single people in the world students as workers as professional people Christ wants to go to many places in the world and to enter many hearts through you just as Mary visited Elizabeth so you too are called to visit needs of the poor hungry homeless those who are long or ill for example those suffering from AIDS you are called to stand up for life you are called to respect and defend the mystery of life always and have require including the lives of unborn babies giving real help and encouragement models in difficult situations you are called to org and pray against abortion against violence of all kinds including the violence done against women's and children's dignity through pornography stand up for the life of the aged and the handicapped against attempts promote assisted suicide and euthanasia stand up for marriage and family life stand up for purity resist the pressures and temptation of a world that too often tries to ignore a most fundamental truth that every life is a gift from God our Creator and that we must give an account to God of how we use it either for good or for evil [Applause] there is yet another stage of the Holy Spirit's passage through history which we should meditate on the third joyful mystery of the Rosary the birth of the Son of God announced by angels to the shepherds you have nothing to fear this day David city a savior has been born to you in an in a manger you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes st. Luke tells us that the Shepherd's said to one another let us go over and see this child and they went and found the child with Mary and Joseph that is what we too must do you must go - this child is man the son of God at whatever inconvenience at whatever risk to ourselves because to know and love him will truly change our lives I remember a song I used to sing in Poland as a young man he sank which I still think a spoke which tells about the birth of the savior on Christmas night in every child's in Chapel this song would bring out repeating a musical way the story taught in the Gospel it says should not stay GC was shadows staunch a pastor's bucshon bound roads through the North's neji's war sheriff OG staunch a pastor's butch Alvaro he can transition with your eyeshadow but the impulse Psi Chi we touch you are applauding but you didn't understand it means in the Silence of the night the voice is health get up Shepard's God is born for you hurry to Bethlehem to meet the Lord the same stories told in the beautiful hymn Silent Night still enough which everyone knows that is a hymn which moves us deeply by reminding us that Jesus the Son of God was born of Mary born to make us holy and to make us adopted sons and daughters of God it is a hymn to the creative power of the Holy Spirit is a song to help us not to be afraid if I speak of Christmas it is because in less than five years less than five years we shall reach the end of the second millennium 2000 years since the birth of Christ on that first Christmas night in Bethlehem we must allow the Holy Spirit to prepare us for this important event which is another significant stage his passage through history and of our pilgrimage of faith your Archbishop Cardinal O'Connell has given me the welcome news that the church in New York will begin to prepare for the Millennium by declaring 1996 a year of evangelization what a wonderful beginning to make a mighty year year-long effort to transmit the teachings and the love of Christ to all who will listen especially to those who for some reason may have wondered away or been alienated from the church colonel O'Connor we need all of you and especially you young people to help the church enter the third millennium you young people will live most of your lives in the next video you must help the Holy Spirit to shape its social moral and spiritual character you must admit your joy in being adopted sons and daughters of sung through the creative power of the Holy Spirit do this with the help of Mary Mother of Jesus cling to her rosary and you will never wander far from her sight [Applause] the porvis speaking to all of you not only to the young people and the Pope asks you all of you to deed us to do this rule it the Pope knows that you will do this and for this he loves you then you can tell the whole world that you gave the Pope his Christmas present already in October in New York in Central Park do not be afraid the power of the Holy Spirit is with you is with you amen [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] gratitude for the faith that has drawn us together and we trust in God's law so manifest is in his people in various parishes all around the New York archdiocese and Catholic colleges Covenant House many many places within the within the archdiocese all of them giving gifts to the pontiff and this is the beginning of that portion of the mass of which culminates in communion that's listening [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] in his fair father Couture to say I think that the Pope is delighted and happy to have this contact with the mostly young people who are presenting gifts to us it's such a nice mixture really representing New York City we are a little cosmos Mike respective of the whole universe let's listen here [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] father could father cat or I'm curious why are they singing to Mary at this point well we try to imitate Mary's twofold vocation remember Mary received Jesus into her body for the purpose of giving him away to the world and in that sense she becomes a prototype for us because when we received the Lord in Holy Communion we hold him not to contain him and for our own little private spiritual gardens we'd take Christ into our body so that we can go into the world with him and do the things he did to take care of the sick to nourish those who are starving spiritually to lift the downhearted we become other Christ's because he came to us so that we can give him away the con celebrated priests are shortly going to take their place around the offer was given on information and at one point the Pope will raise golden chalice hosted for all to the door after the consecration that will be the central part of the mass yes [Music] [Applause] [Music] pray my brother and sisters that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God the Almighty father conform our hearts along to the give tree off and teach us to recall the mysteries of your only son that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ who lives and reigns forever and ever they don't be with you lift up your hearts Ned asked his angst the Lord our God [Music] father all-powerful and everliving God we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks and as we celebrate the memory of blessed Mary ever-virgin price to bless and to proclaim your holy name so intimately does she share in the midst of Christ that she's still a mother continuing to give you children with the church encouraging them by her love and drawing them by example to pursue perfect charity she's the mother of all who live by the spirit of the gospel as we look up to her in prayer we learn from her mind to love you above all things mercy from her spirit to be wrapped in contemplation of your world and from her heart to serve the needs of others in our joy we sing to your glory with all the choirs of angels [Music] [Applause] [Music] we come to you father with praise and thanksgiving through Jesus Christ your son through him we ask you to accept and bless these gifts we offer you in sacrifice we offer them for the Cory Catholic Church watch over it law and guided granted peace and unity throughout and all the world you offer them for me your unworthy servant by your will the Shepherd the flock for John the beasts of this local church and for all who hold and teach the Catholic fairies that comes to us from who are dear to us we pray to you our living and true God for our well-being and redemption the union with the whole church we own or Mary ever-virgin mother of Jesus Christ our Lord and God we all in spirit and in truth that it become for us the body and blood of Jesus Christ you on the sound our Lord the day before he suffered he took breath in his sacred hands and looking up to heaven to you is almighty father he gave you dogs and place he broke the bread gave it to his disciples and said take this all of you and eat it this is my body which will be given up for you and supper was ended he took the car again he gave you thanks and praise gave the cup his disciples and said take this all of you and drink from it this is the cup of My Blood the blood of the new and everlasting covenant will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven do this in memory of me let us proclaim them instead of face [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] father we celebrate the murmur of Christ you sound we your people and your ministers recall his passion his resurrection from the dead he descends into glory and from the many gifts you have given us we offer to you god of lauren majesty this whole and perfect sacrifice the bread of life and the cup of eternal salvation look with favor on this offering and accept them as one she accepted the gifts of yourself and able the sacrifice of Abraham our Father and face the bread and wine offered by priests Melchizedek Almighty God we pray that your angel may take the sacrifice to halt on heaven then as you receive from this also a sacred vow and blood of your son let us be filled with every grace and rest remember Lord those who have died and have gone before us marked with the sign of faith especially those for whom we now pray may these and all who sleep in Christ find in your presence light happiness and peace for ourselves - we asked some share in the Fellowship of your apostles and martyrs with John the Baptist Stephen Matthias Barnabas Ignatius Alexander Marcellinus Peter felicity Perpetua Agatha Lucy Agnes Cecilia Anastasia and all the saints though we are sinners we trust in your mercy and love do not consider what we truly deserve but grant us your forgiveness through Christ our Lord through whom we give us you gave us all these gifts you feel them with rival and goodness you bless them and make them call me in the unity of therefore dish merely for the glory and all the ratios Almighty father forever and there [Music] [Applause] [Music] let us pray for the coming of the kingdom as Jesus taught us [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] deliver us Lord from every evil the grander speech nowaday your mercy keep us free from sin and protect us from all anxiety as we wait in joyful hope for the coming horse a Jesus Christ [Music] Lord Jesus come Lord Jesus Christ you said tell apostles I leave you peace my peace I give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your kingdom and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom where you live for ever and ever in fact the peace of the Lord be with you always [Music] [Music] fatherless is we kissing yes the peace of Christ is being spread throughout the whole congregation the creases so they saw a little row of umbrellas there if priests are going to various places in the Assembly with the hosts to distribute communion throughout the whole presentation and at one point the he's invited the congregation at this point to wish Christ's peace to one another I believe yes and that's the reconciliation is affected by a handshake yeah the hum it's a way of acknowledging in the Lord selves of Christ is among us and that his peace spreads from one to another and we in turn give it to our neighbor the gift of peace that's listen [Music] this is the numb of God who takes away the sins of the world happier those were called to his song law and war he only said they were I shall made a lot of Christ thing with everlasting life where the blood of Christ bring with everlasting life now the priests have descended among the people in they're beginning to pass out the the the host for communion right father yes one of the interesting effects of the Eucharist that is what it accomplishes in the person who receives st. Thomas Aquinas wrote this in the 12th century 1200 was that it was a purification that it that the presence of Jesus was so pure so good that it transformed the person who received it so it's like an absolution of sin we ask God to forgive us our sins because we're not worthy to receive him but say but the word and our souls will be healed in the Melkite right they say servant of God John or servant of God Mary received the body of Christ for the remission of all your sins so we come away feeling cleansed [Music] father people try to take communion once a week every day well we Catholics are supposed to oblige to go to Mass on Sunday unless they're sick of course but we were asked to come together in public worship of course we're supposed to pray everyday but to have a public recognition of God's sovereignty over us is the the life of the Christian and we do it on Sunday work sometimes on the Sabbath Saturday night and sometimes expressing this corporal body of worship we are the people of God and we must pray together as a people not just as individuals for Catholics you know receiving the host right now at this particular papal Mass does that make it more special for them even if they didn't get it from the Holy Father well the man says the mass is the mass is the mass whether it's the Pope the bishop or the lowest priests newly ordained it's the mass because it's the consecration of the body and blood of Christ but obviously you're at something special at a Pontifical dance and so you see when the Pope says man so all the cardinals come out to surround him it's interesting you see a lot of people in the crowd taking pictures and it reminds me of the story of [Music] don't woman she sell mind weeping a death in their devotion very special attention for I believe the singing by the archdiocese choir is a new commissioned piece of music called follow me and it should be very impressive as it moves along it's going to be accompanied by full brass and percussion and after that after that is done Placido Domingo will be singing the panis angelicus and we will stick with that of course two people were chosen from every beccaria to me that is every subdivision of the archdiocese and they are the ones who are receiving from the Holy Father himself - from each - - from each vicariate yes we see so many young people with cameras that it reminds me and I really want you to get this story and that it's not just people who are not close to the Holy Father that are smitten by him but you have an interesting story about when you wanted to get a shot of him in Rome and I wish you'd share that with our audience right now well I had the honor of offering the Holy Sacrifice in his private chapel standing right on his left as we celebrated the mass it was a marvelous experience the mass lasted about 50 minutes there was no homily and no communions so that that's how slow he is in saying the whole Holy Sacrifice of the mass but after the mass we set our thanksgiving and we went to the his reception room we had the little breakfast but we were waiting for him because he was in the chapel kneeling and making his Thanksgiving and I had my camera and being a member of the Catholic press I wanted to get a nice picture of the Holy Father that I took myself so I snuck back to the chapel and there he was all alone in the beautiful chapel right in his own apartment and I'd appraise my camera and clicked and it made the loudest click I've ever heard of any camera at which point the Holy Father turned around slowly and glared at me you know look that I shall never forget it ice went back into the other room hoping that he would not say anything and of course he didn't he was very gracious but maybe he's maybe he's remembered you ever since then it was a moment I think it said I shall never forget while we have just a moment about the homily I was impressed and interested that really the Holy Father was telling the Christmas story and that's how it was retell yes let's see the homily is a commentary on the gospel and they chose the gospel from Luke which is the nativity revelation well I was issued that chose that gospel because under the order of things it would be logical haven't of that to tell the Christmas story which is the basic essential story of Christianity it is the Incarnation that's a big word we have all these big church words you don't need all the church jargon can be translated in a different way but the Incarnation and the Pentecost and the evangelization and all of these words had church jargon but it boils down to the fact that God became man and dwelt among us and that's astonishing not only did he do well and then go back but he stayed here through His Holy Spirit and he animates us and we don't even know it sometimes we do things because we're led by the spirit you know I was reading the other day somebody was talking about the mysteries and magic of the Roman Catholic religion and I suspect we're watching one of them one of the mysteries are we not going yes and that is the the body and blood of Christ a great mystery of God living among us you have to have a special spiritual antenna and it is faith it comes from baptism there are probably people at home watching this and they know these people are reverent they haven't the faintest idea as to why they just feel it it's part of their religion and of course it is and it's very hard to describe but it's suddenly you see things that you didn't see before we are now watching communion being given two representatives from each area that the Archdiocese of New York and we're going to listen okay before you pass it back you I want to go back to something you said when he was giving the homily and and he talked about getting his Christmas present early and he wanted the young people to get involved in world evangelization is it and then all of a sudden there was this spontaneous silent night being sung and I just have to I'm this anchor desk but that is that's part of the magic yes and for anyone who can't identify with it oh boy they're missing something special whether you be a Christian or some other religion you have to admit that the the mystery of the story of Christ whether how deeply you believe in it or not the story that is believed by so many people what around the world a billion billion Catholics in this country alone 60 million Catholics that's the population of France almost so it is it is not something that is likely taken by just a few people let's listen as these people these young people generally in community [Music] yes we're just we're just commenting that this is going to be a long process the priests who are circulating among the people in the Great Lawn are just getting down that are down there you'll see them they'll be identified by the Vatican colored umbrellas the the gold and white I think two three folks who are listening for not Christian not Catholic this is a time for spiritual communion no matter what your faith is if you believe in God this is a time to open your heart and to accept the Lord God all high into your heart I think this is possible to me [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] and to be more Souls that was Placido Domingo of the Metropolitan Opera the tenor singing panis angelicus which means the bread of angels and that of course refers to the host that is part of the communion of the the Catholic Church in a moment the I am the bread of life will be sung by the choir of the Archdiocese of New York and let's listen to that the communion of the people in the Great Lawn of course continues 120,000 of them father we interrupted you as it you about to make a point for the moment along ago I was speaking about the fact this is a spiritual moment for everybody who's participating it's not just to watch something but to enter into the spirit of prayer and remember yesterday we talked about the basic reality of prayer pure prayer is simply in the will to give yourself to God you never have to force feelings of any kind and the only way to pray well is to pray often so these little moments when we give ourselves to God our special love acts in which God gives himself right back to you so you're not really just yelling into the vacuum of the universe you have the Lord God touching you and kissing you and holding you and embracing you and lifting you but I believe the archdiocese in fire is now going to sing I am the bread of life we are one body one body in Christ and we do not stand [Music] we are one body one body in Christ then he came and we might apply for he tells you drink when you live in my you drink [Music] we one by [Music] we [Music] you're feeling will you feed my [Music] boy say we one body [Music] the truth [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] we one body [Music] [Applause] [Music] you're listening to Donna singing the hymn we are one body she wrote that song let us pray Lord our God grant that we who proclaim in this sacrament the death resurrection of your son may be joined to his passion and share in this consolation glory we ask this through Christ our Lord my brothers and sisters this has been a wonderful occasion first for me for the poll it has been a real pleasure to see so many of you here in Central Park and to have prayed with so many people especially so many young people I hope it was also an important moment for all of you maybe they time to [Applause] Handel's Messiah and the papal pass is over in Central Park they continue to sing Handel's Messiah father guitar truly past couple days we've either we've heard a recurrent theme do not be afraid the the Pope said that today over and over again to the people of Central Park he said that yesterday writing to the priests who are training to be priests at st. Joseph's Seminary is this I guess he started off 15 years ago saying this saying listen one of it - yeah he actually said in specific words conquering fears the first step to opening your life is his service because he feels that we should be fearless about opposing the dominant culture which he thinks is a flight from God which he calls it through the culture of death yes well in its worst aspects yeah but I think a lot of good people are makes the whole truth uncaring hundred million unchurched in America well that doesn't mean that they're far from God that they are not to the church they don't believe an institutional religion and I think this is a counterpoint to that theme so the American spirit is individualistic this is group mindedness 120 120 thousand people in Central America certainly I don't know if their church specifically might nothing be correct to say their church I don't really know I don't know I'm sure some of them never go to Mass and they decided to come to Central Park today you know that could be and I'm sure that they're glad there did that they are glad that they did not only did he talk about be not afraid but he said something that I just loved hearing he said Americans are generally speaking the brave and good people and I couldn't agree more and he also did something that doesn't happen very often and that is to thank the press for the coverage and I didn't want that to go unmentioned that was among the people in Central Park Tim how are you bill just fine after going through this who wouldn't be the police official estimate here is that there were about 200,000 people they say that in part they based that estimate on the fact that there were an awful lot of people who were trying to get in even after the gates had actually closed and people had to be dispersed the police say from both the east and west drives the good news here though is that the weather held up where I should say more accurately held down which is to say there was no rain but it remained chilly due to the overcast and as a result of that the emergency medical service says they had very very few problems treating perhaps fewer than they say two dozen people so overall from the weather standpoint from the general crowd standpoint from the standpoint of being comfortable it was great and in terms of people being able to get in a lot of people could not but those who did get in had a reasonably clear view and those who were too far back which includes a lot of people that are further back in this camera position while those people were able to watch on television sets and then there was the procession for giving communion so all of those people saw the priests directly and about the latest from our position Roz bill back to you in the few this well what what reaction did you have down there on the ground well the reaction bill was pretty much what you could see in the television pictures of people all around us were clearly excited to be here and indeed it went to some of those law-enforcement people that the father was talking about because they took communion to there was a line of uniformed police officers at one point they became quite literally involved in the event that they were working at quite a job in the - thank you Tim and so father you were right - thank thank the cops people thank you this morning I saw from Police Commissioner Bratton and he said the only thing we're really worried about is crowd control they they were not so much worried about security for the Pope per say except by inference offensive to many people around them that it doesn't engender security that we don't want to leave without saying recitation of the rosary at st. Patrick's Cathedral will begin at 3:30 and needless to say the three of us will be there to give it to you and we'll be there we'll be on the air without about three three Father Couture our final thoughts after this seeing this wonderful Pontifical Master in Central Park well I join with everyone else who has she had a wonderful experience you know New York City prays this is this these are New Yorkers the so called sophisticated City with the cold heart these are really people who come out to worship God because you have to worship God and ask for the strength to live in this city I mean this is a tough place to rob some final thoughts to say and you can tell by my voice in my manner and my demeanor and I'm really comfortable with saying this not only do I like the messenger but I like a lot of his messages that's interesting I think the music the music and the people words absolutely wonderful they're too many emotions that we really felt here to reduce to a single word don't you think this morning oh yes I have been overcome but still kind of nice I'm glad to know that I can still you know be touched moved and that's why all the papal masses have been so very very nice well as we said a moment ago I hope you'll join us at 3:30 this afternoon when we go to st.
