That driver must be toggling a dozen levers at the same time.
Makes the machine in Fern Gully look like a joke. Hexxus ain't got nothin on this.
If trees have nightmares, they have nightmares of this machine.
LOGGER HERE : used to run one of these, but mine had tracks and not wheels. we called it a Dangler... and yes, essentially you have 2 joysticks that control the basic movements, on each joystick you have 2 triggers. one the left hand you flip your finger up or down depending on if you want to use the saw on the left or the saw on the right. the trigger on the left hand controls the head to go all the way up (like how it was when he was cutting the tree down. you pull the left joystick right or left to spin the head and the right joystick left or right to spin the machine. on the right or left joystick there is an extension that actually has a keypad on it set to different sizes for trees. it can be reprogrammed for whatever your logging (12 foot 8 inch, or 24 foot 8 inch.. etc) or you couldn't just use other buttons to just manually freestyle..... it was a real bitch to learn because its hydraulics and very touchy feely....but after 4-5 years I could jump in smoke a joint and just go to fuckin town like a composer composing a symphony.
If you listen carefully you can actually hear the Lorax quietly weeping.
Ponsse, the maker of these beasts, is a great Finnish company with a peculiar growth story. Its founder once brought it to success, sold it away for a good price, witnessed it almost going under, bought it back for a bargain price and made it profitable and successful again, effectively making two fortunes off the same company. The owner was known for having one of the two Maybach limousines in Finland at that time, perhaps a sign of success more visible and rare than anything seen before in the "midwest of Finland".
I wish their corporate story was picked up by a business journalist somewhere outside Finland.
As someone who splits logs often, and a lot of them. This is more cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0-1Rx1NNDY
Part of me is very sad that this exists.
