all aboard the hype train it's go time today we're talking all about the new compact polaroid go camera and the brand new film type to accompany it though this product is bite-sized this is a massive release from polaroid and a new direction for the instant film mothership go little or go home or if you're already home enjoy the episode comfortably um get cozy let's go the kind of photography that would become part of the human being press a button and have the picture [Music] welcome to in an instant my name is ben and today we're gonna party like it's 1999 because that was the last time polaroid introduced a brand new film format to the market until now introducing the polaroid go and polaroid go film this is a diminutive featherweight camera that will have you saying honey i shrunk the polaroid now seriously look at that i mean they're best friends and it's actually really cute they get along fine this little baby produces images that are a total width of 2.122 inches a nice round number compared to a standard polaroid that clocks in at 3.5 inches it is a significant difference and a big industry move for polaroid which is barging into the instax market like kramer into jerry seinfeld's apartment hashtag 1999. the polaroid go film is the same width as instax mini actually and you can see that scale compared to the instax square so it is a bit different with polaroid's legendary brand recognition they're seeking their claim in the little film game and i'm here for it if a standard polaroid is like a pint look at the go like a shot and you're gonna be tossing these things back and browning out thanks to the competitive price point of the go film which is a major factor here the go film double pack with two eight shot cartridges will run you 19.99 and like i said we're partying like 19.99 so that's a great callback to only moments ago it's over 60 cheaper than standard polaroid film and almost the same price as instax square so i'm loving the idea of polaroid offering something that lets me fire off with less stress perhaps even willy nilly you know sometimes i like to be a little silly billy who shoots willy-nilly can you blame me you know that can be a silly billy too let's talk about the polaroid go camera this micro machine is unbelievably small this is the first certified baby doinker and it may hold that crown forever it is considerably smaller than even an instax mini camera i've called cameras snacks before but this might be the baseline for all snacks going forward it's like four inches long two and a half inches tall that's insane this is like a keychain and yet somehow it can produce images that contain the most ridiculously complex chemical processes in a consumer film product it's amazing there's a feat of engineering and the thing that i really have to give them credit for is despite the size they did not skimp on the features this looks like a simple package and i almost expected it to be feature free like most instax cameras but by golly they have actually fuel injected it with a full gambit of tools it has double exposure it has a self timer uh on the viewfinder it cleverly has a selfie mirror because now we're doing that on polaroids it has flash override which you wouldn't think would be a big deal but that usually doesn't exist on cameras this small it doesn't have exposure comp but the light meter on these cameras has gotten quite good so in most situations that's no biggie literally uh still maybe something to include on the next go release not 100 necessary with film this small but would be nice to have it is a legitimate creative tool whether or not the film size is your thing only you know that and that is your truth but for me it's gonna be fun having this mini-me banger that i can rock with and shoot how i'd normally shoot without flash and still get the polaroid chemistry i love in this pocket size scale my pockets are going to be so full of film at this point i mean i got to get new pockets and that really is the look you get it's still super polaroidy and honestly i think the shots look great i was curious how sharp these would be though it's certainly not a number one factor on a film this small but hey they look good the colors look exactly how i'd hoped um and viewed at their actual size holding it in your hand they look super nice and really really cute the viewfinder is also shockingly large when you peep through it it's probably the second biggest shock in using this next to the size of the camera itself which i still i almost can't look at it because i'm having trouble filming and looking at how small this is um why don't we take a little tour of the camera itself at this point you've got a brand new film loading mechanism which is now on the base of the camera rather than the front like its predecessors really interesting to see that on a polaroid camera apparently fitting all the components into such a small package required some 4d chess so i'm really down with whatever they had to do here most of the features are controlled by the flash override button which you tap once to toggle off the flash which reactivates every time you take a shot you can trigger double exposure by double tapping that button and the 10 second timer initiates with a long press um it's very simple and amazing that you can even do that on this thing it's so small oh my god to make everything 10 times cuter the go also comes with probably the most adorable stickers ever to bear adhesive and the film itself also comes with stickers that you can tack on the little sweethearts to put on whatever you want i mean every single effort has been made here to melt your heart and i must admit my heart has liquefied entirely and it seriously hurts on a metal level i love this whole move for polaroid i know the die hards are super passionate and they want their legacy formats to stay alive and i completely support that i need my 600 sx70 film like i need water and reese's peanut butter cups but the fact that polaroid is moving into this area and introducing a new format in 2021 is mind-bogglingly awesome it only spells good things for the company if this is a solid money maker for them everybody wins our four polaroid formats can hold hands and sing kumbaya until the sun sets in the netherlands this company was on the brink of basically not existing just over a decade ago and now they have gotten to the point of bringing a completely new film type to the market it's crazy it's hype i'm certainly into it also hype is what this smaller format may start providing to the enthusiast community who likes to use instant film and alternative cameras like medium format bodies for example the polaroid go film is slightly narrower than the width of medium format film which means it can be more easily adapted to work with those cameras with adapters which i'm sure all the 3d printing whiz kids out there are already working on because they're kings and queens this could also see the revitalization of spectra cameras go film can fit cleanly inside of spectra bodies unlike standard polaroid film which was a little taller basically it's just another opportunity for die-hards to have fun and get creative with how they shoot polaroids and that well actually actually all of this is big for business or is it or is it little for business but that sounds bad but you know what i mean like the film is small so it wouldn't be big for but it but it's big for their actual business you know what let's just do the pros and cons thing pros the scale of the camera is so shockingly small you could bring it anywhere and everywhere in your pocket the portability factor is nutso the features this camera mostly has the standard feature set of the polaroid now plus the selfie mirror and market share kind of an unusual pro but i see this as one of the biggest pluses for this whole thing polaroid is expanding what it offers and it can access a new customer base and can keep growing and we'd love to see that cons at 100 usd it is the same price as the larger polaroid now that personally is not a major issue for me since you're saving a lot on the film end but it may be a little confusing to somebody browsing the shelves and being like this thing's really small this one's big same price fuji has been doing this equal tier structure thing for a while regardless of format so i guess there's precedent and nomenclature i don't have an issue with the polaroid go name itself especially for the camera which fits the direction of the polaroid now name but the fact that the films offered are now called 600 i type sx70 go and 8x10 is really all over the place but i guess they're so different it's hard to confuse them for one another um i don't know i guess calling it the polaroid itsy bitsy didn't hit with the focus groups and we got to respect the focus groups they they the focus groups are way more powerful than we give them credit for well this is a truly historic moment in the long history of polaroid and i'm very stoked that we can revel in it together thank you for watching in an instant go and smash that subscribe button stay tuned for more reviews shoots breakdowns check out the patreon and all things instant [Music] bye
