[Music] what's going on Imperials there are a ton of Pokemon out there that are weird and strange and not everybody gets them it's not that they're inherently bad but maybe you just don't understand the basis for their design or they may not follow your preferred play style at least a third of pokemons probably fit into this category for most players since there's over 800 there are bound to be some that fall through the cracks but every now and then you can have an experience to change your perspective on certain pokemon and come to appreciate them in a way that you hadn't before so here are the top six pokemons I've grown to appreciate number six delcatty skiddy was a super cute cat Pokemon from the Hoenn region who I loved so much more than me I'll also may had won in the anime and that made it even better in my eyes but for whatever reason I never seemed to pay attention to its evolution as much it was just not as cute as skiddy and I could have sworn it was supposed to have some paw print design on its forehead but that seemed to disappear after the generation 3 games I don't know delcatty was just there a major problem might have been that they were much more notable normal types in the Hoenn region to choose from and that just sort of left tell Katy by the wayside that didn't change for me until oroz when I saw a skiddy tail in the grass and snuck up on it even though it wasn't the most powerful battler for whatever reason I decided to stick with it throughout the game letting it grow as a skiddy until it curtain learned any more moves I used a moonstone on it near the end of victory road and then immediately faced down Wally's delcatty with my own and beat him then facing the Elite Four was a bit harder because when I first caught it I didn't even think to check what its ability might be but apparently it was normalized which turns every move you have into a normal type move needless to say delcatty was useless against Phoebe but then came Galatia I was using delcatty when one of her Pokemon used hail I then realized del Cadiz Blizzard was guaranteed to hit with added stab on an otherwise resisted move I easily finished her off with spamming a few more blizzards taking a weakness and turning it into a way to achieve victory is no small feat and is what made me see delcatty in a whole new light number five a poem there are quite a few one offs in the johto region so it's no surprise that some of them get overlooked for me one of those that got lost in the shuffle was a poem he did have a cool part in the battle at the start of the third movie but so did a few others and despite how good it was I didn't have a way to watch it repeatedly so I only ever saw the movie a few times that feeling lasted for several years until the battle frontier section of the show were Ash caught in a poem ambipom had already been announced for sin oh so I know what they were doing but that doesn't mean I didn't fall for it this a poem was funny he was charismatic and he was full of determination he followed Ash all the way to sin oh just because he wanted to keep traveling with him when he was used in gym paddles he gave it his all and then when he decided he wanted to try out contests he gave it his all there too I guess all it really took for me to appreciate this silly hand monkey was for me to get to know him and his evolution by extension but now he's one of my favorite Johto pokemons and one of my favorite normal types in general number 4 Ludicolo i used to not like Ludicolo at all I thought it in its entire line were poorly designed and a waste of a unique type combination surely they could come up with something better it just seemed too weird to me but then Brock caught a lotad and after a while it became alright to me but the other two were still strange but it seems Brock was on a mission because he slowly wore me down one by one evolving into lombre and then Ludicolo once I saw how that his constant jollity was sincere instead of some lousy gimmick that could appreciate how he was always in a good mood and honestly more people could use some of that positivity on top of his off-the-wall personality he was the all-stars of my all grass playthrough of emerald because if you're going to do all grass Hoenn is the only place you want to be being one of the only grass types to be able to reliably handle fire and his quirky carefree attitude make Ludicolo a true wild card and a fascinating pokemon to have on anyone's team number three jumpluff the entire hoppip line as another that I would recognize but just never paid any attention to they struck me as generally unimpressive especially after Tropius came out in the next generation to truly showcase the grass flying typing this held true for me all the way until last year when I replayed through SoulSilver I played through the games many many times over and for a good while now I'll plan out my team beforehand breathed in with all the moves and abilities that I want them to have and treat them over as soon as I'm able this time I was using an all flying team and for the sake of diversity that put a hop upon the team I wasn't expecting too much from the little guy but he soon surprised me with how useful he was he was more durable than I gave him credit for but he also had a plethora of utility moves to help out the team such as poison powder or leech seed and knowing u-turn gave him lots of opportunity to supply momentum being a pivotal reason why I was able to beat the kimono girls in their eeveelutions he was so useful he became like a second starter to me using this floating puff in his home region really seemed to let him shine and let me see that there was more to him than I ever gave him credit for if you like me and never thought much of this Pokemon give it a try and see for yourself number two SWANA you could probably count the number of times I've thought of SWANA on one hand we already had duck Pokemon and every generation prior already had water and flying types and with you Nova having the most new pokemon of any generation you can't afford to dabble and people that don't resonate with you unless you play through the game multiple times that is I was creating a team to play through white two and wanted to put a Milotic on the team as a super strong water type but it wasn't ready yet so I had to find a fill-in eventually I settled on doublet just because I had never used one and I needed a filler I wasn't expecting much from him but he soon proved to be a surprise hit on the team his attacks were much stronger than I thought they'd be in the best part was that his physical and special attack were relatively equal so he could function successfully as a mixed attacker switching between skalds and brave birds was so much fun and a possible combination of upper ring and roost would really keep me healthy for a long time I have no idea if it would actually do well in competitive play but for the main story it worked out great I underestimated this Pokemon a lot and maybe that's all it takes maybe you just have to use a Pokemon a bit before you can warm up to it assuming it performs well that is that was this one time I had a pair of sect and well never mind number one Venusaur I like many children at the birth of Pokemon was obsessed with the fire-breathing dragon was this even a choice but I guess if I had to pick a second a giant turtle with cannons is all right oh the third one no I don't really want it Bulbasaur was cute and awesome but when he just got bigger and uglier it ruined everything these other two were clearly better well while I still loved these other two this is simply not the case we didn't know what is kids but pokemon secretly had difficulty levels in the game from the very beginning it's not stated explicitly but the starter you pick determines how difficult the settings of the game will be Bulbasaur is four times strong against the first Jim strong against the second Jim and resists the third squirtle is strong against the first Jim resists the second and is weak to the third and Charmander is actively weak against the first two gyms without any advantage until Erica now it makes sense why Professor Oak's at Bulbasaur is a good choice for beginner trainers he's designed to have the most advantages in Kanto I didn't fully appreciate this until the playthrough of LeafGreen where I finally gave this overgrown tree frog a try and he was great an incredible powerhouse to lead and build a team around and he was even better in that jinhwan Virtual Console where I was able to take full advantage of the glitch that makes the damage from leaks eat toxic combo compound exponentially the truth is in Kanto there are some pretty good fire type options besides Charizard and there are a ton of good water options but there really is only one grass type that can do what you need to do best you can replace the other starters if need be but if you want a grass type you really will suffer if you don't have a Venus or I'm just sorry it took me so long to realize it so there are some of the Pokemon that I've grown to appreciate it can happen with anyone at any time when you least expect it what pokemon have surprised you let me know down in the comments also be sure to leave a like share this video and
