Plywood Floating Shelf with Hidden Hatch

[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] it's Caban here and today's exciting episode we build a floating shelf for a beautiful television here is the objective this is the wall that the TV shelf is going to sit on and the TV shelf is gonna look something like that now the difficult part is the TV isn't going to be wall-mounted the entire weight of the 65 inch TV is going to be on the shelf and it's gonna be an easel on the back of it so all the way is going on this that's the challenge let's see what we can do about it so there are many options if you want to have a shelf without seeing the things that support the shelf is round steel brackets that can be mounted to the ball there's right angle bracket ii be recessed then that's a builder who usually renovates in birds houses my first thought is to frame this shelf with actual wall framing so that's what we're gonna try and do nicely this bracket system works first all right moment of truth he's alive okay so I'm at least double the weight of the telly I think with the timber like if I framed the timber in a way that supported it as well it blocks the air block there and then the bracket we're we're just going it's going on the same wall around there that will work [Music] they were happy look at that Patti okay this is gonna be there like that and then the Dakota machine's gonna be in between and then ply is gonna wrap the whole thing and it's gonna look like one big slab of wood timbers doing a lot of the work but this this sucker here is gonna really really beefed it up Oh holes drove exactly and what you think of when you think of fine furniture making [Music] all right guys I weigh 76 kilograms my tool belt probably weighs 4 maybe so they say 80 kilos which what it should be three times the weight of the TV here's some crunching but to the moon I mean I'm not gonna say it didn't but Bailey move bro I think it should be okay I'm feeling confident all right the next stage is okuni plywood that's what we're using this is 12mm thick we're gonna miter the joints we don't see any edges of any plywood [Music] [Music] so the we've colored might will cut it we've cut it we've cut - miters one here and in one of that skinny over the skinny piece over here and you've cut it from the same part of the sheet so when we put it on here pull the grain will match oh my god and we're taking extra care because this is the finish no bog no filler nose sandpaper either [Music] it is time for the glue up yes it's dipping in the middle yeah see how that applies brah [Music] [Applause] okay now we can do that what we do is we do contact blue light just in like four different points let's just so we can push this down and put it in the bowl don't know it's done yeah yeah yeah but we'll just be one two three or something like that and then maybe there's no whistles straight out this is still yeah [Music] [Music] 1975 [Music] a little bit knew this but we did a good job and also we're gonna screw the cabinet from underneath into the framing so it doesn't have to hold the weight of itself so much [Music] yeah a beauty I think so I'll take them off the hard stuff this matter taking off the tape oh right [Music] just go to their Wow [Music] [Music] I just put some of that glue on now turn the camera on a bit light but uh I don't see that was that step [Music] [Music] for the reveal oh my god what hats part out what hatch I thought you said there'll be a hatch stay away from there put it down [Music] so do we have it guys the floating Sheriff so right now the skybox is on top the Klan is going to get a smaller box that goes inside the hatch that we don't and we're also going to reinforce the hatch a little bit because the easel that the TV is leaning against has a bit of weight and it all pushes down on to their hatch so we need to reinforce the hatch in order to support that way and then the TV will set in front of the hatch and we're also probably going to drill holes in the base to help you know circulate here for whatever machine ends up inside there but it's going to be a lot smaller than this one so there should be sweet yeah it all turned out pretty pretty good [Music] the feature wall here is looking good too it's got a couple of coats of polyurethane on it the grain is spilling around the corners also spilling around these corners here it's just it just looks fantastic with the rebates in there but yeah if you haven't seen that video already I'll link there the end another exciting project from let's go brand cabinetry [Music]
