wrong but the change bells afterwards are going to ring all afternoon to celebrate this event standing to attention the stepliners waiting for the first arrival of the royal family the honorable artillery company which the queen is captain general she took over from her father in 1952 so she's become the longest-serving captain general of the honorable artillery company for 64 years old first battalion of the codestream guards formed the gardawana and the dismounted household cavalry lifeguards and the blues and royals and then representatives of the commonwealth services bangladesh and canada fiji guyana jamaica malaysia new zealand papua new guinea tanzania uganda all here lifeguard standing at attention it's now five minutes or so before 11 o'clock and a wonderful sound those bells can be heard all over the city of london and this style invented by steadman that's why they're called steadman sinks of not having bells the twelve bells not having the ring one two three four five six to twelve but going backwards and forwards one two three and then back two three four and changing it all the time which is what gives this beautiful sound as we see the first [Music] cars and apparently a coach behind whether that will have members of the world didn't the world family lawyer coming by coach i think they probably are there's so many of them coming they've come by coach rather than car we did see some members of the royal family uh scrolled up the mall yesterday in a coach with blacked out windows so we have a much bigger contingent today of members of the world family and i'm sure they're behind some of the state bentleys we will see some of them the raw family emerging very soon well when they emerge we'll rely on you to spot them royal i'll do my best you know every one of them most of them i don't know just one thing i thought that that little boy george might be brought here like his prince george like like like his grandmother was uh she was here for her grandfather's um jubilee and we saw earlier on another touching site i wonder whether they would bring this little boy here say he could say in 70 80 years time he was here on this day but apparently not i think we have to remember that prince george is still only eight years old we did see him front and center yesterday for the first time in the carriage with his very young siblings um you know that was a big very big moment for him we did of course see him at westminster abbey for the memorial service for the duke of edinburgh so i think it's a question of pacing a very young prince in the future rogue figure of the lord mayor of london greeting the duke of gloucester duchess the first arrivals by car behind prince michael of kent princess michael canton the queen's cousin i think you know we didn't see them yesterday on the balcony but the queen's very keen for you know her cousins they are still working members of the royal family who do a lot of the heavy lifting and perhaps members of the whole family that me and my colleagues don't write about so much i think the queen's very keen that they are at the heart of this occasion today [Music] and there we see zara tindall uh the queen's granddaughter mike tyndall el snowden and his son charles he looks like his father doesn't he yes very much so on the right on the right of that couple then behind them ladies and gentle and her son who i think is now also serving with the royal marines behind them the tyndalls there we see peter phillips and frederick windsor and his wife there [Music] nothing i've ever seen an occasion where the royal family has been sort of waiting like the congregational waiting to get in to the church well there are an awful lot of them today i think it was interesting yesterday you know the the homage to the queen prince of wales very keen that it should only be working members of the royal family on the balcony you're so used to seeing the wider world family at trooping the colour and today a bit more of a focus on more of her family they're out in full today so why why would she why don't you want the whole family here for what is a i mean if it was a state occasion they wouldn't be here in fact they would never be at an occasion would they be at the coronation or a family like that yes yes they would be here we see prince and princess michael of kent apple kent greeting or being greeted by i suppose one should say the archbishop of york there stephen cottrell the redheaded figure of the sacred center robert kozak next to him so down this long line and this gives you an idea of the procession that we're going to see in a moment because the whole of this procession the royal family that are coming in now will take their seats but when prince charles arrives arrives here the prince of wales this whole procession becomes a formal process up the full length of the nave but for the moment it's just a good morning and welcome to the church as you might see at any parish church on a sunday morning there are lots of lots of people wearing pink roya which the queen wore didn't she in jubilee in 77 and also in 35 i think rosebud pink i hear i wonder whether it's a special tribute that they've and we've been hearing earlier earlier this week about earlier the weekend about how the queen was very conscious about the clothes and color what she was a pink tie as well that's right and we saw something very similar to this if you remember at westminster abbey for the memorial service to his royal highness the duke of edinburgh her match to the queen the duchess of cornwall and the princess royal were all in green they were all in prince phillips green livery so it's another touching tribute to the queen of course is not here today perhaps i should just explain this long line of clergy the dean of some pauls who's david eisen is the first person to greet people here leading the cathedral and then he has a cannon chancellor he has the he's responsible for theological learning programs they have the precentor lay cannons and then of course the distinguished figure of sarah malala you saw a moment ago the bishop of london and the lawyer the chancellor then the archbishop of york and then there are chaplains and sacrifices centers it is a huge staff that runs this cathedral both on the religious side and of course the very practical side of keeping the building standing and here we see some of the senior members of the royal family starting to arrive and now i think we can see the campus of wessex and she looks to be in a car with her daughter lady louise and the ireland wessex and their son james by count seven there's quite a crowd that turned up they were here well when i got here at six o'clock i think it was this morning outside the cathedral already gathering though it's it's not the easiest place for the crowds to watch from they're held right back from this forecourt with the statue there by the way of queen anne with her back to us in the center of paternoster square queen anne who was really important in getting this cathedral built when they were getting into difficulties here we see the princess royal arriving with her husband vice admiral timothy lawrence of course the princess wool was on horse guards parade yesterday standing in her majesty the queen with the prince of wales and the duke of cambridge and there behind them the wessex is arriving with their children lady louise and james wyckon 7. so all the children are coming of the of the other royals in effect and anybody over the age of 12 or 13 or so that's right and most of her majesty's grandchildren too the wessex is here essex prince edward was they just came back i think you were talking about him to go from going to antigua and barbuda and grenada and lucia and the grenadines on behalf of the queen the header that's right they were on a on a tour to the caribbean on behalf of her majesty to mark her platinum jubilee in there lovely to see lady louise who we've seen front and center actually at the jubilee celebration she was at windsor castle for that wonderful horse show on sunday evening a couple of weeks ago driving his royal highness the duke of edinburgh's carriage and here we see princess eugenie her husband jack brooksbank princess beatrice her husband eduardo pallimoxi arriving together and here we see the duke of sussex and the dutch sussex for the first time on a public occasion with the royal family for more than two years this is a very big moment the queen was absolutely determined that they should be here and here they are and by the sounds of it getting a very warm reception from the grounds outside big cheers as harry and megan arrive here [Applause] they're greeted by the lord mayor first of all [Applause] on behalf of the city of london the lord mayor incidentally who ranks higher than anybody except the sovereign in the city he ranks even higher than the prince of wales [Music] and so harry and megan are with harry's cousins usually in beatrice and i'm sure we'll see them seated with them how long are they here for the sussex did they just come on a fleeting visit um my understanding is they are here really for the duration of her majesty's celebrations and i believe that they will return to the united states next week and have they have they met the queen since they've been here they weren't on the balcony were they yesterday they weren't but my understanding is they did return to buckingham palace yesterday to spend time with her manchester queen and possibly for a private lunch and of course they are here with their children with archie and with lilibet who will celebrate her first birthday on saturday and of course this will be the first time that matches the queen has met her great-granddaughter vinod named after her a very chatter prince harry back in the royal fall for the first time in a long time and everyone looks very pleased to see him and both of them actually behind them the yemen of the guard they don't get their hands shaken they stand there on duty because they're there to protect the sovereign or whoever is representing the sovereign here and prince harry just acknowledging and saying hello to a few members of the congregation that he probably hasn't seen in quite a long time a lot of heads craning to watch them as they come up the aisle [Music] it's interesting i think they have certainly been given a bit of a procession on their own and that is a i think that's interesting i think that's something that much to the queen would have probably had a hand in they haven't just walked into other members of the royal family they have had a moment to process because all these things are choreographed carefully aren't they in that way and as someone close to the queen said very recently nothing happens by chance and this is an example of that his brother on the other hand will be in the main procession with his father the prince of wales prince william that's right he'll be arriving later with the prince of wales and the dutch cambridge so why would they have prince william in the main procession and not prince harry well originally it was going to be the prince of wales who was going to greet the queen as she arrived and so you would have the prince of wales of the eagle cambridge the two future heirs it's right that they would welcome the queen and walking through the procession prince harry is no longer a working member of the royal family he's stepped back from his duties but i think her majesty the queen has ensured that harry and megan were front of center there and had their own procession these wonderful cops here the george v coats scarlet and gold as this procession makes its way to the west door to await the arrival of the prince of wales verger and then there are various dignitaries bishops eminent art archbishop nikitas cardinal nichols is here and then a virger and then 22 prep injuries six archdeacons and two suffragan bishops prince is usually there just whispering something to her husband eduardo princess usually wrote a really lovely tribute to her magic to the queen earlier this week and she wrote a piece talking about how she very much hopes her son august philip who was named second name after his royal highness the duke of edinburgh how she hopes that her son grows up to have the kindness and patience of granny it was a really touching yes i read that i read that it was good we don't know exactly how many people here in the congregation we do know that there is a gathering of faith leaders of representatives of all the worlds of world faiths i should say and hear the very distinguished figures of the honorable core of gentlemen at arms always present at ceremonial occasions back to the faith leaders [Music] the gentleman at arms have now disappeared from our picture but they were another of those very old call lining here we are instituted by henry viii they celebrated their 500th anniversary in 2009. they were meant originally to provide a mounted escort so all these things have an origin like the children of the chapel's royal who will be hearing singing later who used to travel around with the king so all these all these elements have a significance even though now they're purely formalities but kept alive for ceremonies like this the lord mayor waits on the steps of the west door [Music] the lord mayor with his sword not the pearl sword but his sword of state as it's called to show his power carried everywhere he goes because it symbolizes the authority he exercises on behalf of the sovereign in the city of london one pigeon not aware that great events are taking place around hopping along the steps popping down the steps [Applause] there he is again the pigeon determined to see what's going on here very curious i like that [Music] [Applause] [Music] the jubilee overture plays starting with a great fanfare as we now wait for the arrival of prince harry's brother and his father the prince of wales who represents the queen at this event [Music] and here we see the prince of wales arriving representing her majesty the queen of people are starting to cheer as he arrives [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] wow this actually the cambridge is the jew conductor cambridge first [Music] duke of cambridge and the dutch of cambridge was poisoned pausing to talk to the lord mayor they elegantly dressed in pale yellow and again interesting these events have their formality but also these moments of information just a quiet chat about what's going to happen perhaps or what's going on that he will be in the long procession [Applause] joined by the principal areas later [Applause] and once again greeted by david eisen the dean of some polls his first first important business here 10 years ago was the queen's jubilee in 2012 and this is his last major occasion here the dean of some polls the cannon chancellor the presenter paula gooder james milne neil evans long conversations here and in the meantime outside the procession of cars bringing the prince of wales and the duchess of cornwall with him of course yes [Music] prince of wales and the duchess of cornwall and the prince now representing her majesty the queen as he did at the state opening of parliament a few weeks back and gradually it seems taking a greater part as his mother inevitably does less and less i mean is there are we watching here roya a kind of gradual changeover responsibilities are we being introduced to the new era i think we've been seeing that for some time david i think we have been in an era of transition for a while as you mentioned we saw it at the statehood of parliament with prince of wales and prince william opening on her behalf we saw it at the commonwealth day service back in march and we're seeing it here today a last-minute change the prince of wales stepping in and representing her majesty and acknowledging the physical limitations of a 96 year old monarch and i think we will see that more and more going forwards prince william there talking to the archbishop of york may be wishing him good luck with his sermon and the sacrist robert copeland and robert kozak the center at the end of the line well it's a very cheerful atmosphere here even though manchester the queen's not here which is perhaps disappointment to many it seems a very easy friendly atmosphere i mean these are occasions when i wish i was a lip reader because they seem to be having such a such a sort of nice friendly chat before they come in about i don't know what what the service is going to be or what's happening i suspect we will see some coverage in tomorrow's papers of lip readers from what the duke and duchess of cambridge are saying and perhaps what the suspects have been saying but yeah that would be very intrusive they look very cheerful despite her majesty's absence how long we got to the services i think this this greeting may go on for some time because the service is not yet due to start for several minutes so whether they're aware of this i don't know but there's wonderful music to listen to and the bells peeling and the archbishop of york who used to be bishop of reading before he took up his post as archbishop of york in good view of the copes there heavy cops scarlet they've lasted well made in 1935 for george v silver jubilee now then seem i think to be moving into position and the sign that the service is about to begin will be a fanfare from the state trumpeters of the household cavalry so [Music] the processions led by the verger the crucifer the sacrifice center the assistant chaplain the verger and then the economical signatures that we saw earlier on members of christian churches there are members of other faiths here but this is a christian [Applause] and service nichols at the back there in the scarlet room catholic church and following him a virger and then the preventatives [Music] so long this possession that there it starts off our list and chatting at the back waiting to go [Music] [Applause] [Music] uh [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] hey [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] foreign is [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] we come together in this cathedral church today to offer god thanks and praise for the reign of her majesty the queen and especially for her 70 years of faithful and dedicated service as we gather from communities across her realm and the commonwealth of nations we rejoice in the diverse and varied lives of all those whom she serves and in the beauty and abundance of the world in which we live inspired by words and music we pray that god will continue to bless and guide her majesty and that we may all receive grace to honor life and to live in harmony with one another and we continue to pray for those whose lives are marred by conflict suffering and tragedy and mindful of the call of god to look to the needs of others we commit ourselves afresh to caring for our world and all for whom it is home striving always to seek out and nurture that which is good in people and in all creation all these our thanksgivings prayers and pledges we offer to god through the prayer that jesus taught us our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom the power and the glory forever [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] let us pray almighty god the fountain of all goodness bless our sovereign lady queen elizabeth and all who are in authority under her that they may order all things in wisdom and equity righteousness and peace to the honor and glory of your name and to the good of your church and people through jesus christ your son our lord who is alive and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god now and forever amen there are two readings one from the old testament and later one from the new o give thanks to the lord call on his name make known his deeds among the peoples sing to him sing praises to him tell of all his wonderful works glory in his holy name let the hearts of those who seek the lord rejoice seek the lord and his strength seek his presence continually remember the wonderful works he has done his miracles and the judgments he ought uttered o offspring of his servant israel children of jacob his chosen ones he is the lord our god his judgments are in all the earth remember his covenant forever the word he commanded for a thousand generations let the heavens be glad and let the earth rejoice and let them say among the nations the lord is king let the sea roar and all that fills it let the field exalt and everything in it then the trees of the forest sing for joy before the lord for he comes to judge the earth o give thanks to the lord for he is good for his steadfast love endures forever [Music] is is [Music] righteousness [Music] this is [Music] is [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music] is [Music] r [Music] is [Music] rejoice in the lord always again i will say rejoice let your gentleness be known to everyone the lord is near do not worry about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to god and the peace of god which surpasses all understand will guard your hearts and your minds in jesus christ finally beloved whatever is true whatever is honorable whatever is just whatever is pure whatever is pleasing whatever is commendable if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise think about these things keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me and the god of peace will be with you [Music] oh [Music] bring your supplications and thanksgivings to god says paul then the peace of god will guard your heart and mind and keep on doing the things you see in me of course the me in that sentence is paul himself but paul is only worth following because he is following jesus and jesus is worth following because jesus shows us who god is and he shows us what our humanity could be and there are so many occasions in the gospels where we see jesus himself faithful to his vocation seeking out places of replenishing so that he can learn god's way he is close to the father's heart says saint john and sometimes i wonder whether the whole christian faith is best understood as an invitation to dwell there ourselves sisters and brothers dear friends we gather today in great rejoicing to celebrate the platinum jubilee of her majesty the queen but of course we do it against a backdrop of such uncertainty and suffering in our world for me the best leaders like paul like jesus are those who know how to be led people who lead for others not themselves people whose hearts desire is to serve the common good and build up the common life who don't try to do it all themselves or act in their own strength alone people who take a longer view and who seek out places of replenishing even places where they might learn the mind of christ and i say this today knowing that in her majesty the queen we see such an example of this kind of service a staunch constancy and a steadfast consistency of faithfulness to god and obedience to a vocation that is the bedrock of her life no bedrock isn't quite the right image faith in jesus christ is a fountain and it is a well it is the well from which we draw deeply and replenish ourselves through all the challenges joys and vicissitudes of life and it is a fountain overflowing with immense joy joy that we can live in the assurance that we are loved joy that god has a purpose for our lives and joy that through christ's dying and rising we have the promise of life eternal now we all know that the queen likes horse racing and your majesty i'm rather assuming perhaps you're watching this on the television and i'm afraid i don't have any great tips for the derby tomorrow but since the scriptures describe life as a race set before us let me observe that your long reign reflects the distance of entry rather than the sprint of epsom certainly less dressage than most people imagine but with endurance through times of change and challenge joy and sorrow you continue to offer yourself in the service of our country and the commonwealth your majesty we are sorry that you're not here with the this morning but we are so glad that you are still in the saddle and we are glad that there is still more to come so thank you for staying the course thank you for continuing to be faithful to the pledges you made seventy years ago thank you for showing us how service and faithfulness matter people of all faiths and no faiths and people of good will together we know that we can learn from this sometimes people say to me that the christian faith is just a prop i couldn't agree more i am not ashamed to say i lean on jesus christ i'm not ashamed to say that i'm trying to live my life close to his heart that i need his wisdom and his hope and if you will forgive me such presumption this is what i also see in her majesty the queen and to the people of our great nation on this great and historic day i say this we are indeed living in a time of uncertainty and challenge and we would all do well to consider where we will find the replenishing that we all need what i see in her majesty the queen is someone who has been able to serve our nation faithfully because of her faith in jesus christ perhaps there is no better way of celebrating her platinum jubilee than by doing the same ourselves amen stephen cultural the archbishop of york giving the sermon oh is [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music] [Music] [Applause] is [Music] is is [Music] [Applause] [Music] blessings [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] [Music] is [Music] is [Music] [Music] oh [Music] is [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] oh [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] my foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] is [Music] um [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] let us pray rejoicing in the lord and all that he has given let us make our supplications with thanksgiving through jesus christ his son god of our praise in love you sustain us with your spirit fill our hearts with gladness that we may celebrate your gift of life and worthily magnify your holy name lord receive our thanks and praise and hear our prayer god of our jubilation in whose service your servant elizabeth our queen has persevered throughout her long reign continue to support and encourage her to the benefit of all whom she serves lord receive our thanks and praise and hear our prayer god of our peace in christ you draw us together as we gather today from the commonwealth of nations unite us in purpose renew us in commitment and recall us to our promise to live in fellowship lord receive our thanks and praise earth that we and future generations may enjoy the wonder of all that you have made lord receive our thanks and praise and hear our prayer god of our strength in whose kingdom there is no pain nor sadness draw near to those who are sick and suffering comfort those whose lives are marked by conflict and bring to all in need your wholeness and your peace lord receive our thanks and praise and hear our prayer god of our prayer in whose presence we rejoice and in whose hands we are held secure keep elizabeth our queen in your faith and favor and as we glory in the gift of her long reign may we and all whom she serves be united in faith hope and love this we ask through jesus christ the king of glory and prince of peace amen [Music] [Music] is [Music] is [Music] jesus [Music] jesus [Music] foreign [Music] says [Music] jesus [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] is oh [Music] [Applause] jesus [Music] is delighting in the gifts of life wisdom and understanding let us commit ourselves afresh to caring for our world and all for whom it is home rejoicing in the life and reign of elizabeth are queen will you hollow life in all its richness and diversity inspired by her dedication to her people will you serve those alongside whom you live rejoicing in the joy and happiness of discovering will you foster community amongst your people inspired by all that united strengthens us will you work for peace and justice throughout our world rejoicing in the beauty of this earth will you protect and care for our environment inspired by creativity and endeavor we seek out and nurture all that is good renewed and invigorated by the life we share and by all that we have celebrated this day may we be faithful to all that we have pledged and promised that act of commitment with young people representing countries for whom the queen is head of state taking part in that moment in the service and now glorious things of thee are spoken [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] go forth into the world in peace be of good courage hold fast to that which is good render to no one evil for evil strengthen the faint-hearted support the weak help be afflicted and honor everyone love and serve the lord rejoicing in the power of the holy spirit and the blessing of god almighty the father the son and the holy spirit be among you and remain with you always amen so [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] and though sooner is the national anthem over and the service over then william fox the actor starts playing sir william walton's march from the history of the english-speaking peoples [Music] and there will be a shorter procession out leading the prince of wales here representing the queen they go down through the wonderful carvings the very grand cross of york being carried in front of the archbishop who gave the sermon very earthy sermon about racing comparing the queen to entry rather than epsom which got a good laugh from the congregation here the virgin there behind the archbishop royal core of the gentleman arms and the procedure now would be for those who accompanied the prince of wales in to [Music] smiles from the duchess of sussex [Music] so they line up by the lord mayor and his sword of state [Music] and they escort the prince of wales out of the cathedral [Music] very jolly figure the actual york that's here beaming as he goes down through the ranks of this vast congregation [Music] made up as we were saying earlier people who represent various charities and public bodies that the managers have been in some way involved in the representatives from the commonwealth took part in the service and were also watching that's the cornwall in cream on the right there behind her the duchess of cambridge in yellow [Music] and some wales smiling as he goes down it was a very cheerful event [Music] despite the fact the queen wasn't here it kept its spirits up wonderful music and that lovely anthem by julius ware and always these grandsons resonating through the [Music] so royal what did you make of the whole event from the point of view of the royal family here we see them all i mean by the score coming down the aisle here absolutely in there the duke and duchess of sussex at the very heart of the royal family and it was indeed a very jolly service and i think if there's one thing that would have drawn a wry smile from windsor castle today it would have been steven kotchel's reference to the queen very much still being in the saddle she may not be here she is still head of this family head of nation and she's still very much in charge and what about the um positioning of harry and megan in this congregation they've very much been brought in here they had their own little procession didn't they in effect arrived they did and like i said earlier i think that is a nothing happens by chance when it comes to her majesty the queen and family gathering so i think that was important when they were seated there with princesses eugenie and beatrice and here we see the prince of wales and the duke of cambridge [Music] well this has been an amazing service weekend ahead promising more celebrations but a chance here to think back over those 70 years i love the line of the poet laureate that when she was crowned it was girl who'd left behind like a favorite toy and when she made all those vows and was adorned with the symbols of royalty it was a price priceless freight for a young woman to bear so now we look back on those 70 years changes and challenges and throughout that time only one presence one face a constant that of her majesty the queen the longest serving monarch in our history [Music] [Applause] [Music] and so lord sentiment the former archbishop of york you listen to the current archbishop of york say there we are so glad that you are still in the saddle referring of course to her majesty just briefly what did you make of the service marvelous wonderful because wisdom has been leading her i'll use another imagery that from qriket 70 not out not robert lacy there was joy there of course we did see the prince of wales representing her majesty who we understand is watching from home what did you make of it well i love the way in which the archbishop of york these archbishops of york they have a
