What is truly sad is that you still have to give them Cs and Ds so the graduation rates for the university could improve, otherwise get ready to hear from Department Chair and Administrators how it's entirely your fault that the students failed. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I assigned a summary essay on The Ethic of Expediency, a piece discussing ethical decision making and technical writing. A graduate student copied a summary he found online to save time.
I had him write a follow up piece on the irony of his decision to make up for it.
I had a student submit a presentation last week that was just whole paragraphs from Wikipedia. Didn't even remove the citation numbers from wiki.
Sigh. The first plagiarism case I ever caught, back when I was a graduate student, was an essay submitted that copied the top 5 user reviews from Amazon. While it was not printed directly from Amazon, the student did not bother to change any of the formatting.
Ashton Kutcher taking notes when the teacher tells him to cut and paste the email into a word document had me laughing so hard.
