so a lot of you guys know that I'm using a sprite by the way there's a link in the description below which is like a referral link that gets me some points on humble if you do want to buy the program but I know a lot of you you know don't want to buy the program it's like 15 bucks but you know I know some of you would rather not spend that money if you don't have to right so I want to show you another software if you search pixel art it takes you to pixlr.com right and pixlr.com so actually a pretty good pixel sight it's like a social network for a pixel art they also have comics and it's pretty legit once you create an account and login basically this is like the home page that it takes you to and if you guys want to follow me my name is the pixel P someone already took pixel P so I am the pixel P I should probably add some more artwork on here and stuff like that whole thing is if you go to Orioles down here check it out like hey I uploaded one of my tutorials on here you're probably upload more though anyway the purpose of this video is because right up here there's a start drawing button when you click this it takes you to a drawing program and I'm just going to skip all these settings there's also a mobile app for this but I want to show you some of the cool stuff about this pixel art program because it's free okay so obviously first we're gonna start with customization so go to settings and over here they have different icon looks I actually like the current one that I have which is what slinky 16 but basically check it out over here on the left you can see the icon art changing I know this is like super important so this is how I wanted to show it to you I'm gonna stick with slinky I like it it's nice and chunky I'm one of the developers working on door to tower defense dungeon crawler RPG you can wishlist it on Steam now and we're doing a Kickstarter a pretty darn soon okay so after you pick your icons probably something you want to do is go to file new and here you can choose your width and height for your canvas alright so the next thing you might want to do is up here there's a full-screen button in the top right corner you have a little preview window underneath that you have layers down here you have all the options there's an image that you like on the Internet unfortunately I don't think you can just copy paste into the program what you'll have to do is you'll have to save the image and then open it in the program you just go to file and then open image so if you open up a sprite it's going to be pretty big like this and if it's really big like this and you want to zoom out you can go to this bottom left crop tool and here just increase the size so I'm just gonna increase this up to 32 by 32 and then resize the drawing now you can see I have more space to work with and now if I pick the selection tool I go ahead and pick that I can move that wherever I want a cool thing you can do is with the selection tool you can select your sprite and then this is how you can quickly resize it so a neat little trick is if you press spacebar it shows you what your image would look like if you exported it you can see it got rid of the transparency here you can just click X in the top right corner or you can just press spacebar again if you want to get rid of artwork really quickly instead of trying to erase a row by row what you can do is you can grab the selection tool select the whole thing and then press the Delete key at the top there's the undo option if you accidentally delete the wrong thing but also you can just hit control Z controls these two undo ctrl Y is to read you let's say I wants it to do a shadow I'm on the shadow layer and I selected my pencil tool and the color black now I'm just going to draw you know whatever just a really basic shadow really quickly now what I can do is decrease the opacity and pick exactly the kind of color that I want for that so the next thing I want to show you is the options for the tools go ahead and select the pencil tool and if you draw a line let me go to the art layer if you draw a line and you see that there's doubles there what you can do is on the right here click on tool and then you probably don't have pixel-perfect enabled so go ahead and click that and now when you draw curves you see that it'll always be singles it won't the pixels won't ever double up you don't know what I'm talking about this is a double right here it's when pixels stack it makes your lines that look less clean so you definitely want to have pixel perfect enabled in tools and if I click any of these any of these other tools some of them have options like for example this brush here oh yeah I just mess with those hide layers you can click these little circles and X little layers I'm just gonna go ahead and hide those layers add a new one and down here I don't know if you notice these two dots but you can mirror what you draw so I'm gonna click this first one and you probably know what this does but basically it lets you mirror from one side to the other and this is great when you're trying to draw a character or something that needs uh you know something that needs a symmetry on both sides look it's a little cat okay so one of the coolest things about this program is that you can make gifts you can make animations so down here we have an animation timeline and we can add a frame but what we actually want to do in this case is copy the frame and each frame also has a time so you can change how long each frame lasts so you don't have to duplicate it if you just want it to stay still for a bit anyway let's copy our frame and then I'm gonna go to the selection tool I'm going to move the ball down a little bit and I'm going to copy this frame and move the ball down even more hey why did I start the ball so high you know what I'm gonna do I'm gonna make it bounce by the way 1000 milliseconds is one second there we go and we have an animation so now what you would do is you would go to file download when you go to download there's three different options here so if you wanted to put it on Twitter you would just download the gif and then if and even as you choose a couple of different sizes so obviously if you can upload a Twitter you're not gonna do 32 by 32 if you draw to make it something bigger but if you were um let's say doing a character animation for a video game then you would choose to export the the frames for it so that way in the engine you can animate I think that's all I really need to show you guys you can pretty much figure out the rest on your own this is a free program that isn't quite as good as a sprite or some of the others out there but hey it's free it's a great place to start or practice you know also the social aspect of pixel art is a cool place for you to just you know keep your art and see how you improve over time and get inspiration from other artists I updated my icon I put a little bit more effort into this so if you do end up using this site don't forget to add me at the pixel peak I'll put a link in a description if you know another pixel art program that you want me to review let me know in the comment section below thanks for watching if you like picks up follow me on Twitter can you guess the games that I got up this week I'll see you next week stay not stick deadlight please subscribe
