hi everyone and welcome to this behind the scenes video on how I put together my 2D animated pilot Polly and Para each episode will start with the best friend setting out on a simple but exciting Adventure as they explore the world in their own imaginative way series will focus on the experiences of childhood as seen through Polly's eyes as she learns new things every day the show's objectives are to help children learn about friendship imagination problem solving and empathy [Music] I've been using cartoon animator for many years and as a production has been designed and animated by just myself it's a perfect software as it's fast and easy to use so let's dive in and see how I created it [Music] once I had the idea the first thing to do was design the characters all the characters in putting power are PSD files there are two reasons why I chose to create the characters this way one the characters use a lot of textures two I'm more familiar with Photoshop than I am with illustrator however it is worth bearing in mind that we've caught an animator you can also use Vector characters so I'm currently designing a few more show ideas in Vector Styles but for probably in parrot everything is PSD [Music] each character has a different alternative angle I did this so I could be a bit more creative in the episodes as it enabled me to add in a few more additional shots of different perspectives [Music] the rigging ink Carter animator is super simple most of it can be done within your design software using the templates that come with it there are a few different templates you can use as a blueprint but once you've cracked how it all works you can really be creative on your characters you're really not limited by the software at all when it comes to character design cartoon animator has a few different positions when it comes to motion front and sides this really comes in handy when you want to add variations to your motion sequences you can also add spring bones to your characters and I love this feature you can for example make your character's hair move in a more realistic way and it's all these subtle movements that really add to your animations make of them more Dynamic and more appealing to watch [Music] foreign I have thousands of ideas for shows so once I'd written the script and created the storyboards I then had to find voice artists to help me bring the couch to life and I think find the right voices are just as important as the designs themselves now I was fortunate enough to have a couple of friends and family members who kind of recorded their voices for me which are then edited into the storyboard for timing I then started to animate in cartoon animator [Music] [Applause] in cartoon animator I animated each shot at a time so I started by importing each character's dialogue to make the characters speak our cartoon animator does a fantastic job of automatically lip syncing their Mouse prize with the audio however sometimes you may have to go in and tweak the Sprite slightly to better match the dialogue [Music] once the character's lip sync looked correct I started to animate the action and interaction between all the characters [Music] I can't begin to tell you how easy this software is it's been incredibly well thought through the software comes with a lot of pre-made motion files to get you up and running and you can also purchase a lot more from the marketplace as well as a Content store and there is also a lot of free files available too if you've made a sequence you want to use again you can click the clip and Export the motion file for repeat use and of course you can also create manual keyframe animation too using the powerful 2D motion character face key editor and a face puppet tools I did a mixture of all three for poly and parrot and it really does speed up the animation process [Music] adding spring bones onto your characters is also an easy thing to do and as you can see it adds in a little extra Sparkle to your emotion there are two plugins that I use all the time and used throughout the whole process of this pilot the first is 2D motion live this plugin is absolute Magic what it does is enables you to animate your characters face expressions by your phone it really is as simple as setting the same IP address to your phone so your phone talks to the software and basically click and record and then your character mirrors exactly what you're seeing on your phone it really is a brilliant plugin and one that really speeds up your animation process [Music] the other is export to After Effects plugin where you can simply export your animation and basically import it into after effects so once I'd animated each shot I then rendered them out for after effects you can choose different resolutions however I exported each shot as 4K and what it does here is it exports each character as an image sequence with each separate audio file and then creates a Json file [Music] you then load up the plugin in After Effects and pull the Json file and the animation will then load into after effects here you can add all your effects such as particles glow effects blur and parallax cartoon animator and after effects work perfectly together and I highly recommend the plugin if you're using After Effects [Music] poly and parrot has over 100 shots in total so it took quite a while to render out all the shots but once I'd finished I imported them all into Final Cut to edit and add in the music as well as the sound effects ready for its final export [Music] now that the animation is complete you have to think of ways to help expose what you have made to an audience so for poly and parrot I created the following a website a few interactive games where you can interact with the characters and a Bible but what's a Bible a Bible is basically a brochure for your brand that includes the following an outline of your show details of your characters potential stories what the merchandise could look like and potential costs and budgets this is really useful to show people your vision beyond the animation itself [Music] if it wasn't for cartoon animator I wouldn't be developing any of my ideas now and that's the honest truth I've been using after effects for many many many years I know the basics of character animation and I've also used most of the other well-known animation softwares too but it's Carter animator that really clicked for me it really tailors its software towards designers both rasterized and vector and is always developing updates and plugins to help you animate quicker bringing your designs to life and helping you animate your ideas they can't really care about their users and listen to what users want from the software and I don't know of any other company that listens and develops their software as much as Revolution do and it's because of this is why carted animator will always be my animation software of choice [Music] [Applause] [Music]
