but it's 10h to say right now with United s six they're going to Long quite well I am optimistic about where we are so where are Manchester United because a year ago Cristiano Ronaldo sat in front of Piers Morgan in that famous interview and he spoke about his uh view of United and their perceived lack of progress I don't know what's going on but since since the S Ferguson left I saw not evolution in the club the progress was Zero for example you have a interesting point that how the club as Manchester United after sock um o they buy they bring sport directive Ral rnck which is something that nobody understand this guy is is not even a coach nothing changed surprisingly not only the pool the jacuzzi even the gym even some points the technology the kitchen they're trying to force you out yes not only the coach but the other two or three guys they around the club at the senior executive level yes that I felt betrayed yes I feel betrayed and I felt that some people that don't want me here not only this year but last year too it was an award-winning interview Martin but it ended up with Ronaldo Landing in a world of trouble and was it for him at Manchester United a year on is what he's he said then still prevalent today well it f first of all he said there's been um uh progress was Zero since uh Alex Ferguson left the football club was going to obvious obviously was going to be difficult for anybody stepping in there first as a managerial Viewpoint then he's uh criticizing the kitchen kitchen wasn't right then there was betrayal all of these particular things obviously from a player who wanted out of the football club R yeah I I think we were all surprised that he'd got the job it was an interim job how can you have an interim manager for for Manchester United and um so that was probably never really going to work but the lad the lad wanted out he wanted out of the football club and regardless of the manner in which it took place eventually you know you you can have an opinion on it you can say that ten Haag maybe even brought certain things upon himself but at the end of the day the player wanted out and listen all these things about he he did say in the interview not not there but I know that he said in the interview that he was in the cust of joining Manchester City joining Man City before Alex Ferguson pulled him in and G to join there was debate about that yeah there was debate about well he said it himself he was on the cusp of joining Manchester City why not join Manchester City but it's will be bit like somebody who's played and been a hero at Liverpool for a number of years deciding now listen my next Club after been at Real Madrid is Everton you know so there is there is something in that there I think I I just believe that he wanted out at the football club he did the interview and when the interview was aired then obviously that was the end of him but the fact that matter is Simon what he said then is it still the case today United fans saying there's a complete lack of evolution United fans saying look at the state of the stadium couldn't care about the stadium will say that so that would be that would be manner for heaven for them but the fact that um when he left and United went on to win the league cup and finished third in the league kind of disarms his argument a little bit the fact he left in 2009 doesn't know what happened between 2009 and 2013 is another discussion that people could bring into the conversation the fact that he talked about certain people wanted him out and that there was a certain philosophy and then admitted that he actually hadn't spoken to the glazers hadn't actually spoken to the Senior Management of man united so how does he who's he talking about because there was a red carpet that was rolled out for him there was an absolute Hero's welcome that was brought back into the fold in terms of bringing Ronaldo back in but it was always this debate about what Manchester United need to devolve to and what Ronaldo this wonderful phenomenal player was going to to be able to help them achieve he was going to give them lots of goals and if you analyze the goals that he scored in that season a lot of them were scored against the Lesser s sites that doesn't Al to the fact that scoring a goal is one of the hardest things in football to do clearly I I think a lot of people including sunnes who backs away from it these days suggested that the idea that Man United playing a pressing game was going to be something that um Ronaldo was going to be able to achieve for them they're going to have to have a lot of support in order to allow Ronaldo to do what he does which is not get involved with pressing so with all that came to fault I listened to that interview and it was a great get for Pierce Morgan you know what my views upon it was it was Pierce Morgan looking across the table at someone he really admires and giving him an opportunity to say precise it what he wants unchallenged because when Piers came on here and debated it with us he was then challenged by me to say well why didn't you ask him this why didn't you ask him that why did you suggest that there was a club president when there isn't why did you ask him that which chief executive is spoken to was it Ed Woodward or was it Richard Arnold because he doesn't seem to be very clear all of it was an exercise in making sure that he set the place on fire so that he could be letting out of his contract and go precisely where he wanted to go to which was the Middle East and get paid the enormous amount of money that in in retrospect Pi was right that he was likely to get yeah I don't think you can look at what Ronaldo has to say of course the man united fans that think the glazers are the devil incarnate are going to take the idea that the Improvement of a training ground or the lack of investment in it and not doing dealing with the development of the stadium are in fact the reasons why the team is stunk on the pitch the fact that there's a leaky roof may not be a good example of diligence but let's having it right if you're going to spend 1.7 billion on players I think you can find it within yourself to spend 20 million on doing up the stadium absolutely so you look at those things and wonder why they don't happen but the point is is what's happening on the pitch is cyclical United don't dominate forever other sides have come to the four they no longer have the most money they no longer are the most desirable football club to go to so with all those things in mind you have a different set of opportunities or different set of challenges that United have to overcome so who's going in the more Progressive Direction United hated Cristiano or the Saudi po League well depends what you deserve a pro if you if you look at the progress that Cristiano Ronaldo's made in his bank balance then I would suggest he's gone in the most Progressive direction are we looking at the idea that the Spy league is a competitive wonderfully viewed League at this moment time with 930 fans watching games no are they going to be a force yes they are going to be a force because they're not going to stop unless football decides there's a bit more governance that's required to make sure that they fall in line with everybody else so if you look at progression for for Cristiano Ronaldo he's gone and scored a lot of goals in a substandard league and got his bank balance Amplified if you look at Manchester United since his departure I think it was right for them I think ten hog should have gone harder at the beginning I said this in a conversation just before I went to Qatar last year and Sam Alli said to me I said why don't you manage to say what you mean then if you didn't want him why is tenh hard going to the first press conference saying he did and he said all right let me put in a situation I walk through the door our manager walks through the door and the first thing they tell the British media is I don't want Ronaldo what do you think is going to happen he couldn't do that yeah but he could do that but perhaps he maybe did want Ronaldo to begin with he might have wanted him because Ronaldo was scoring a few goals I don't take your point about team he scored a goal he scored goals against lesser sides loads of loads of loads of top quality players have scored goals at the Lesser sides and it's in it's built into their whole vocab the amount of goals that he scored That season if you analyze it the facts are that he scored a lot more of those was a point about Ronaldo I remember I remember I remember him doing an interview Manchester United um and um where he said that it's all about the team which has never been about Ronaldo it's all about the team and he he try and talk to younger players which is really nice of him and uh you know trying to improve them in the game they should be coming to speak to me and I I'm open for them but it's all it's a really A Team game and about um about 10 days later I was at a game against brenford where he was uh he was taken off in the game and he went absolutely ballistic so it wasn't it wasn't about the the result that Manchester United might might get against brenford he looked at but there was an opportunity for him to further to score a few more goals in the last 15 minutes I think brenford might have been down to 10 players so he went ballistic when he was taken off he threw the shirt in about 15 different directions which is not no bad thing at the end of the day but I I just yeah Simon's right he is he is um he has had a big bank balance and it's really terrific he's gone there and he's gone there obviously to as we all say to improve the league be fair to get rid of aubameyang I wean we know what happened there and it galvanized the squad has that happened here at galvanized ARA no it hasn't but there's been a massive sea change you got you can't just pric in aubameyang being the there's been a massive sea change in the way that the kronies have decided to operate Arsenal from the post the European Super League or whatever motivations whether it's Stephan E wanting to illustrate that Arsenal could be bought for two and a half billion quid the owner of Spotify or a whole rft of things or the polit or the politics of the European Super League all of a sudden kon's gone I tell you what I quite fancy Arsenal now they're no longer on arms length subsidiary of LA Clippers and rappers they're a valuable football team I'll give him 200 million a year which is's given him Daniel yeah and with respect Daniel yeah Obama Yang is not Ronaldo he's not Ronaldo that's an easy one yeah he wasn't he wasn't doing enough as well too at at at Arsenal at the time I thought that was a relatively easy decision for the manager because I think aubameyang was turning up when he wanted to I think you have to and you have to have something about you you know this idea players but he did and the other fell didn't the other fell waited for him to go on talk TV to help him get his exit papers what he did was in comparative terms aubameyang was a star to Arsenal fans he' just been given his new contract to 18 months previously he was the hero that scored all the goals and whether artetta and ten hog arteta is at the beginning of his management career ten Hog's further down the line so you give a little bit more latitude to the fact that arteta is a smaller manager in Statue than ten hog he said don't care you're gone and the board went with him what what ten hog did was he didn't deal with with Ronaldo so Ronaldo did it himself yeah okay artetta did not say that at the beginning he didn't say there to obame Yang I don't want you at the football club would got as as and getting back to my point I don't know this for certain that perhaps ten Haag maybe did want Ronaldo at the beginning he might have wanted and he did want him and and and to be fair to you he did want him at the beginning possibly because of the image of him he did want him at the beginning of the Season he did want him in September and all of a sudden post September he didn't want him so he had plenty of opportuni he didn't want him remarkably that can actually happen he didn't want him happen managers are allowed to change their minds about someone particular someone particular someone who's causing you an awful lot of problems and you think is be honest about it then yeah right okay yeah when he changed his mind and he was asked he was asked repeatedly about his relationship Ronaldo and he never turned around and said I don't want him I listen for me the team's going to change I don't want him but he did he waited what he waited for Ronaldo to do is go I'll tell you what I'll do it for you undeniably though of the three United Cristiano and uh the Saudi pro league when it comes to progression I think yeah Ronaldo's done all right all you got to do is follow him over and have a look at the whole bank balance yeah that's about money unbelievable Jim White and Simon Jordan Monday to Friday mornings from 10 on am on
