Frank Tedesco is a fellow pianist and content creator and he's amassed nearly 600,000 subscribers on YouTube and Frank is known for being able to work out any song by ear that's requested by someone you do anything do you like play stuff no I just hope people are impressed with my setup and as I also spend a lot of time on my channel working things out by ear I thought today I would react to Frank learning songs by ear on omegal so let's get into it U hello hi it is me PG Frank nice to meet you PG Frank um I'm taking song requests if you guys want to hear a song play Squidward nose Squidward nose yeah it's by cupcake I'm scared I'm going to have to try and work this out myself now aren't [Music] I I mean I think the hook basically goes something like that but I'm super interested to see what Frank does with it it's really good though uh can I can I try some real quick yeah oh we're going to get the whole ensemble going on looping music is actually quite hard cuz you have to be really dead on with when you stop the first track if you're even slightly late at stopping the first track then all of the loops kind of don't work and you end up with this Gap at the end of like every four [Music] bars [Music] no way there were a few more notes than that although obviously he's looping this entire thing and he's doing it live to a set of people on so we've got to give him some artistic license using [Music] it is that Baseline actually in the real thing I don't think it is I think the actual BAS go something like that but I do actually prefer his version of [Music] it I think adding more of a baseline makes it sound more like dance [Music] music this dude is play Sid no when someone asks you to work out a song by ear that doesn't have much of a Baseline and it also doesn't have a lot in terms of Melody I got to tell you that sounds awful it can be quite hard to know what to do with it to make it sound interesting but he basically did the best that you can do which is he looped it he added an interesting Baseline he did some kind of keys solo over the top of it he kind of turned it into his own performance rather than just trying to directly copy the song and it's sounding a bit boring the original song kind of just hangs around an E minor chord and occasionally goes to an F but Frank changed it so it was E minor B minor C major and then a minor which is a much more interesting chord sequence yo play something man yo uh what do you want to hear I'm taking requests great mic great mic oh oh I got one I got one Interstellar can you do that Interstellar yeah he's definitely going to be able to do this straight away because it's one of those songs that gets requested all the time it'll be interesting to see whether he does something different with this what I love this guy's voice no [Music] way it definitely helps that he's got Reverb on the piano which is giving it kind of that echoey sound that's how it kind of sounds in the original so it does help a lot I think he's playing a little bit quick for my taste but [Music] yeah so he's doing this interesting thing where in the left hand he's separating out the notes in the cord like this and that just makes it sound like there's a lot more going on on the piano and it kind of thickens the texture it's quite a clever way of making things sound more pianistic when you think of people playing piano pieces you think of these moving Melodies that are happening and arpeggiating the chords in the left hand is a good way of making it feel like that [Music] damn amazing holy dude you have a YouTube channel I know that a lot of my audience are American but Americans do have a tendency to be more expressive with their reactions compared to British people tell me he didn't just say that I can guarantee if that was a British person who was watching that they' be like yeah it was all right what's up man what's good bro I'm chilling dude I'm having a good night how about you I'm I'm good I'm good I'm good wait hold up wait can you can you play like any song I can try I can try to listen to it can you do changes by [Music] XX yes so this is actually once again quite a simple song so it's based around E major then C Shar minor and then G Shar minor and I don't know the song so I'm just going off what Frank's playing but the melody that he's playing is it's kind of based around four [Applause] [Music] notes and Frank is once again opting to do more arpeggios in the left [Music] hand if you know your chords and practice separating out the notes on the piano you can very easily make things sound more pianistic and more impressive on the [Music] piano [Music] he definitely turned that into a performance and that that's the one thing you can't take away from a skilled penis is their ability to focus on how things feel and give the music more of a story that was beautiful that was wow oh dude thank you that was a cool song I should say that that was a good song that was a good song wow what the he killed that oh I'm so glad he liked it I wonder how many of these performances he goes through before he gets some really good performances that he wants to include in a YouTube video cuz no doubt he gets some completely random requests and he's not able to make something sound as good as he would be happy with putting in a video anything you want to say to the people h no I don't I don't oh okay you oh make sure to turn the Bell notifications on you heard him you heard him I have friends with me right now okay way to brag um let's see here what do I want to hear honestly don't know I could just play something if you want yeah you can play something yeah go ahead okay uh can I play something from Inu Yasha go ahead sweet here we go is that an anime thing I have absolutely no idea but I do think this is his area of [Music] expertise I do think there are so many great pieces out there written for anime and I just have absolutely no idea where to start with them and I know that people like Charles Cornell do a lot of videos on anime music as well and that style of music always sounds great and it's so in depth with how it's written so maybe it's something I should start listening to more I just shed a tear inside of me he shed a tear inside of him but not outside of him okay so listen bro there's this guy with a guitar he actually had the same not the same beard but he blew my mind with what he can do wow you think you can do better with the piano I can certainly try it all depends on what song you ask me to play what songs do you know how to play I could try to play whatever you want I don't know if I can give you like a piano song it doesn't have to have piano in it just give me anything I I'll see if I can do it okay Simple Man Simple you know simple man I will in a minute I have heard this before long time ago though okay this sounds like a full chord song I could be wrong because I am trying to pick it up off his phone but I think it's a full cord [Music] song T are you here I stand corrected it's a three Chord song People definitely like these fast arpeggios and scales and things but once again you practice these kind of scales arpeggio things and they become actually not too difficult they're just kind of chord shapes where you're separating out the notes [Music] wow man I cannot lie to you I think I'm going to tie you with that guy and listen I that is the worst it's always kids isn't it who don't lie to you he could have said yeah you were way better than that other guy but no he decided to go with yeah you were about the same thank you could I possibly tip myself in favor by doing the little thumb trick no you got to hide your thumb though oh there you go am I better than him now H now listen I got to still say I'll take yes I'll take that as a yes thank you man thanks so much you do the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse song the Mickey Mouse CL wait let me let me look it up what is it yeah cuz I know I know people could just like listen to it and then just play you know what can you play some like Beethoven hang on a [Music] second what Y what [Music] no this D he's a genius man yeah so listening to that I know that he's listening for the same things that I am and you're basically listening for those chord changes because it's based around a d and a c as soon as you know that you can kind of switch off from that part and start listening to the melody but there is some logic to the way he's thinking about it will you play something I would be happy to oh my God what can you play uh just give me a song and I will try to look it up and listen to it and see if I can play it for you all time low all wow you had it ready geez yeah I I wasn't prepared this quickly all right all all time [Music] low this is another one where it's got very clear cords and and Melody so she'll be able to work it out pretty quickly oh my God if you pull this [Music] off the good thing about pop songs is that they always have repeating chords so once you've heard one Loop of the chords then you know what's going to happen for basically either the rest of the verse or the rest of a song Maybe and this one I think is f g c and a minor which are all very simple chords so you've just got to find that Melody [Music] again once again I'm working off what was on his phone but I think that's kind of basically what he was playing [Music] oh my [Music] [Applause] [Music] God [Music] oh my God what can I say he's a great penist and you can always tell a great penist when there's two things that are happening one they are concentrating on how things feel and creating like highs and lows in a performance but also when you can trust them if a pis starts playing and you're not worried about them making mistakes and things as an audience member and you can kind of just listen and enjoy then you know that they're a good pianist and Frank is definitely a good pianist if you
