I've had a number of people asking questions about what sort of network I've got here at home and what gear I'm running so I'm going to take you on a network tour now I'm going to break this up into two parts the first part is going to be a physical tour where I'll just state what's where and what I'm using it for and in the next video I'll take you through a logical tool which will be more in depth about how the actual comms works so here we go well I'll start off here because this is where the server is now I recently built this one I got the cameras and I did a video on that but basically that's just a computer in Iraq here and behind here I've got a Raspberry Pi which powers the LCDs here these little displays which at the moment is just displaying the powerwall and then what I've got up here is the network switch which is an Aruba switch which is pretty much the core of the network so that goes and feeds all the rooms around the place and the access points and what I've done here the patch panel that feeds into it is I've custom-made the cables to be exactly two lengths to where it's plugged in because they're never going to move and a bit of a neat freak when it comes to cable so I like them nice and neat so that's the patch panel here and if you look around the back it goes all nicely in a loom up to the walls where it heads into the roof and goes off to the various places a later edition was these white cables here and there for the cameras that I've got outside so I put a separate little outlet in the wall there for them so they come in as well to the switch so that RF cable feeds that RF ampere which then gets split and then those RF outputs feed the five TV tuners that have got going into a dedicated USB card here okay so the first network host is the computer here that are using the garage which is where I spend most of my time really doing this sort of technical stuff and it boots off the network so it's got no hard drive in it and I've shown how to do that in a previous video on that the pixie server so that just runs here and while I'm still in the garage the next host here is the the car the teslo it's got a connection to the wireless network of course so it can spy on you I've also got its front dash cam and the back dash cam connected to the wireless network so that's three Wireless hosts just here to do with the car also related to the car is the charger I've got a Raspberry Pi inside there which is connected to the network to monitor how much power is available from solar so I've done a video on that as well so there's a four hosts right there as we go around the house you might notice there's quite a few raspberry PI's here so I might keep it tel years ago just to see how many have actually got running here anyway next right next is the gym and I've got a Raspberry Pi just behind the stereo there so I can play music from the network now that's one of the few raspberry PI's in the house that's actually using wireless most of the others are wired in most of my hopes are wired in but summer was so that's just there just play some music you know controlled by laptop in the gym but an easy okay in the bedroom I've got a TV we've a Raspberry Pi behind it powered from the network with a POS splitter so it's not Wireless and it's just running Kodi as a media player and I've also taped up the light on the front here so it doesn't annoy me I don't need to see a power light and the lights on the Raspberry Pi itself I've actually drilled out all the LEDs the LEDs on the power splitter I've just taken to them with a drill to drill them out because this place was like a bloody rave at night and I didn't need it so I don't need to see the lights so there's no lights just the TV in the outdoor area I've got this wanted to hook up to a Raspberry Pi again it's through the network as well also running off the PLA splitter and I've got the output of that connected to an amp which goes up to the speakers on the walls here which again I've done a video on that in the past even though I've changed it since then and mounted the amp to the TV bracket [Music] another thing I've got out here is one of the access points so you can see I've got that mounted to the ceiling here so it doesn't have to be in the house but it does feed this whole end of the house so that's running off the POS switch what's in here everywhere that's what's in here and among that is an access point and this feeds the front end of the house as well in the kitchen this thing I've mentioned many times it's the power meter for the the solar power and the power wall and it's got a Raspberry Pi hidden behind there in the wall which is also running off POF from the switch of course and that's definitely the most used Raspberry Pi in the house because while I'm here it's just easy to have a glance at that so but as we play again over here I've got another little computer here it's a gigabyte bricks machine same as the one I've got in the garage and it also boots off the network so it's fresh every time as well and it's comfortable to work here I've got the comfortable couch the big screen there which again was the cheapest one you can buy for a couple hundred bucks makes a good monitor and glucose it's under the fan next to the aircon and I can get stuck into the Wireshark a million consoles are always open and it's it's actually my my main workstation now so because it's comfortable unless I need six monitors on the six monitor beast in there outside I've got a whole bunch of these security cameras which followers of the channel may remember when I set them up there's a few of them around the house and they all go into the POV switch to their POA powered and they just sit there and do their thing there is also the power wall which is connected through Ethernet they're wide in which is much better than being Wireless out here there's also another Raspberry Pi being used as an alarm system which I've shown before that's somewhere the spare room is for the most part empty it's just got a bed and that's pretty much it but I used to be set up here with all the computer gear so as such I set up four wall outlets here for the network and also an RF connection so at the moment I'm using that just because it's there for a simple software-defined radio server that on the Raspberry Pi and it just lives in here because that's where the connections are in the layout of what the projector setup as I've shown before as well in one of the past videos and the Raspberry Pi of course that is running as the media server is just sitting above the ceiling there in the roof and it's survived all this time the heat has an upset it so it's fine as usual all the cables are nice and neat because that's how I like them I made the projector ones exactly the length there so there's no access here in the music room by the drum kit I have yet another Raspberry Pi which is the one I showed you once before for their multitrack recording and it's portable run off batteries there so I can take it out to the piano and record that if I want so obviously it's once ok finally we arrive at the 6 monitor beast here which is the only Windows machine that I run ok and it's just for you know music stock a little music keyboard here and and things like that it's the only Windows machine I've got it's connected into the land of course all the other machines I've got a Linux apart from the MacBook and the phone so that's pretty much I think and I sell forgotten something all the network hosts that I have on my land here at home ok so there's a tour of the physical devices that I have on my land here at home now you may have noticed that most of them were actually plugged into a physical Ethernet outlet and the reason for that is because I just like it so I use Wi-Fi for things that can't be plugged in so if they need to be mobile perfect reason to use Wi-Fi but if I can plug something in then I will and most of the raspberry PI's that you saw are actually powered from POS so the power comes along the cat 5 cable in an upcoming video I'll go into the logical side of the network and show you what sort of traffic I've got floating around so until then take it easy [Music]
