Tim exile is responsible for one of my favorite drum and bass records, 'Only If', on moving shadow. Going to need to track down another copy of it at some point, the vinyl is showing signs of wear after hundreds and hundreds of plays. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dm64OQg0rxg

[Music] Thanks that'sthat's actually the perfect intro because I'm all about improv about about six years ago and I finished two really big bits of work the first of them was my last studio album as a recording artist spent two years in the studio I've just working working tracks over you know weeks after weeks after weeks on single tracks and the other thing I finished at the same time was this instrument here which I call the flow machine and so I programmed all the software I didn't build the hardware but I wanted to make an instrument that I could be completely free and improvise with and then in the last six years after that obviously I had to wait for the record label to release the album and then I had to promote the album and then I had to tour the album and then by the time all that was finished I was just like oh my god I spent two years trying to make this perfect music and it was just it was kind of debt it was stuck it was just that but then in the meantime also had this instrument which every time I come back to it is this a sort of wonderful machine of possibilities and that keeps on growing on me so basically I mean I've kind of abandoned my recording career because this is just way more fun so yeah as Brian said I've been going round well yesterday went wrong with my little hard disk recorder recording sounds from yep the computer Center from Atlas from also from Francois the out our guide so there's lots of France Fred's voice in here so basically I'm gonna improvise with all these samples and I have absolutely no idea of what I'm doing what I'm doing is completely unplanned that's the way I like it I hope it's good but actually first of all what I'd like to start off with is sampling a sound from you are you up for that yeah so being scientifically inclined you're probably all concerned with the origins of the universe so we're gonna go into a slightly more mystical realm and you might have heard of the syllable um um to be the the syllable the universe originates from so I'd like you to do is all sing on mm okay do it louder louder louder thank you okay so I'm gonna play with this for a while and then I'll kind of walk you through some the samples that like a bit [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] hey I've got it I've got to introduce to you actually these amazing things so when we went around the computer center recording all these different air conditioning units unusually you like air conditioning is the one sound you don't want to hear you know like bozer who've made these these headphones to like specifically to cancel out stuff like air conditioning however if you record lots of them and put them together and maybe do a little bit of trickery with the flow machine then they sound awesome let's give it a go I hope they do so which one of those is one individual air conditioning unit [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] we're just gonna thank the organizers the organizers photographs today and you don't you gonna keep going and we're gonna thank all the volunteers volunteers so when the knees he finishes you can all go I'll say good night you carry on [Applause] [Music] do we have any beat boxes we got any beat boxes come on this is this is open Ted jam beatboxes beatboxes so what could sing ah it's time maybe we could get little Sonia up here as well is he still here come come come come come come come come come on a decent beats are do so beats we're gonna do what we're gonna have [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] Venus factor Venus 6.5 Venus [Music] Wow [Applause]
