it's a spectacular and warm day we're just thrilled to be playing baseball this summer of safety and success for these talented athletes on perfect game dot tv this is the perfect game 14 you select baseball festival the fifth annual players already moving into professional baseball from this game chickasaw bricktown ballpark oklahoma [Music] city [Music] hi there folks and welcome back to the ballpark representing perfect game on the college side is mike rooney and scouting these players for so many years at this age group is jeremy brown my name is daryn sutton glad to have you with us so jeremy for you you have really moved over the last half decade to seeing these athletes at 12 13 and 14. it's a different look it's a different type of dare i say projecting an athlete right all we're looking for here you're looking for the athleticism the tools and you have another four years of high school looking for the the starting blocks of what's to come and hope you're right in four years so mike you represent the college vision here and it's very clear that at this 14 15 year age group they're being watched very closely by college coaches yeah i mean it's really go time for recruiting and as a college coach you're looking at like jeremy said the athleticism the projection but i'll tell you something a big part of this is the character who's going to put in the work to be that elite player five years from now couple of players i want to ask you about first up matt champion the other one is bryce clavon give me thoughts on both yeah i mean matt champion this kid is just really good at baseball right now two-way player has been up to 89 miles an hour on the mound standout hitter standout position player again an elite athlete who's just really skilled at the game of baseball you really think about bryce clavon this is a kid that's a two-way athlete projects to be a division one football and baseball player committed to oklahoma and it's so exciting that when an athlete of this caliber chooses baseball from the west squad jeremy ty south assini young man who's very special can play really anywhere and zion rose maybe one of the more popular players in the nation from behind the play tell us a little bit about both ty we got to see last year he's not going to stand out in size but his character as runes talked about his defensive ability is as good as you're going to find at the 14u level then zion again we're talking about a high-level athlete a 6-6 type runner broke all sorts of records during the 14 new national and he's only getting better every time we see him so very good stuff with those two gentlemen excited with one more gentleman to have a conversation one of the key starting pitchers in this game and the fourth member of our broadcast team danny wexleman she's standing by with landon victorian guys darren thank you so much i'm with landon victorian landon i know that you started playing baseball hitting off of a t you were working on your offense but now you're known for your arm what does this mean to you to get the nod in the start in the 14 you select festival well it means a lot i'm honored i'm thankful for the opportunity to be able to pitch and start i'm looking forward to doing my thing on the mound and get the win for those of us who haven't had a chance to watch you pitch all the time what can we expect to see from you today i'm just going to pound the zone work in and out try to get some weak contact i know my defense has my back um hit him try to get some weak contact with my slider some strikeouts hopefully with my fastball and then yeah to get the win i know you've had some time to spend with your teammates get to know some new guys spend time with your friends why is your team the team to be today the other team they're not as ready as us we're like we've been determined we're ready man just been trash talking the whole week we're just ready to win ready to play ready ball awesome landon thank you so much thank you all right don't go anywhere the 14u select festival we'll be right back [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] let's take a look at what we will see with regard to the teams offensively and again jeremy brown 17 will hit in this game and with the home team being the west team we start on the east side annie marin bryce clavon andre mudunyo kate arambidi pj morlando michael molinics ryan gold angel cepeda anthony trelongo uh one through nine and then talk about the next eight partner so the first nine any lineup you're gonna take that that doesn't take away from this lineup either you got zion rose who we talked about in the opening jeff lugie cameron davis a dynamic athlete 6'5 runner antonio anderson could fit into any college lineup right now you got evan hager the mvp for the 14 new world series daniel covey can hit the ball as far as anybody campbell smithwick an accomplished receiver ole miss commit and jackson walker uga landon victorian on the mound for the west squad a young man of lake charles louisiana very successful player banditos his travel team mike what have you found out about who he is well i mean obviously he comes into this game highly touted for his age group and you can see very quickly so you know the scouting expression is easy operation the arm just is clean it works easy and you know the frame it's an excellent pictures frame really excited to see him face some of these guys your thoughts on landon so he throws hard he's already he's only six three 155 obvious projection goes to barb high school where he's going to continue to get that high level coaching but he's going to carry his stuff throughout the ending he's done it throughout multiple outings this summer already upper 80s fastball name every college coach knows and those tuning in they're just seeing how he looks they don't need to say he did another thing they're just looking now to see and say hey i watch you next time they talk to him rafa rafael velazquez is his catcher behind home plate so he works with velasquez young man who's out of huntington beach california huntington beach high school long beach is where he lives so raphael his battery mate and we're up up and away and ready to go jaren purify is on the infield it's a very talented player to get things started in the first we're just excited to get things going for all of you standing next to purify ties south of scene is the shortstop theodore gillen and on the corner the first baseman george walco manny marin to lead things off right handed batter back of the box slightly open stance hands hiding behind his helmet and away we go the select festival is underway first pitch fastball 88 miles an hour manny out of hialeah florida morale academy charter and this is a young man who is committed to miami he was an early commit two one of the first 24s and you see the commitment then you get to see him play and within an inning or two couple ground balls one at bat you clearly see why coach gino down there in miami already committed him just about in the center of the rubber for the right-handed hurler very deliberate before he turns and burns and sails that one to the upper tier of the strike zone at 85 miles an hour mike rooney 85 86 87 at 14. it's really incredible and again it's not there's not a lot of effort to that delivery i mean it works fairly easily just a little bit high these are these events for athletes where when pitchers miss high i'm never surprised the hearts beating a little faster the body gets ahead of the arm that's normal oh yeah you can say you're not nervous but you're a 14 year old playing on national television now you're there's some butterflies in the stomach landon with that lead arm misses high that is ball four so marin with a walk and now the talented bryce clavon gets his opportunity her attorney in a way a 13 youth select festival team member out of hampton georgia he's a very talented football player the georgia jackets his travel team one of the great personalities very respectful young man loving being around bryce as he digs in from the right side he two up on the plate in the back of the box and he looks at a fastball just off the plate at 83 miles an hour clayvon's i mean you hear the expression electric athlete he is that times 10. it just really twitchy kid again that arm lagging just a little bit behind the clave on and you can see the velocity dropping down a little bit maybe trying to baby it in there just trying to find the release point which obviously now he's going to try to slowing down his arm a little bit but the stuff's there and again the nerves once he gets settled in i think he's going to be just fine start mixing in some breaking balls runner was on the move throw down off to the second base side so a stolen base by manny he swipes that back a called strike by the way i think that's another really fun part of the evaluation process you know these are kids that are going to play in some really big baseball games in their careers and this is one of those deals where sometimes the game will speed up on you and can you catch your breath and get yourself back to what you're naturally used to doing glavon boy he shows with that turn the name on the back of that jersey tries to put the power into it there's a lot of close in that approach for clavon could probably play any sport well any sport anything he wants to do is dad's big-time golfer so obvious athleticism the strength continues to come with bryce like you guys said he's so quick twitch ran a 6-6 at the national showcase and continues to make strides in every facet of his game mama's a great softball player so he has carried that down great spin on that breaking ball and down goes clayvon you mentioned he'd get comfortable with the breaking ball there it was and that helps just being able to establish that pitch early on that really shows you something too to be able to settle yourself down and you know you think about pitchers when they give up a home run what's the next hitter look like you look think about that for victorian here very impressive andre meduno number 13 lucky number 13 the son of vito and sandra and a young man who we saw at the 13 you select festival last year this is a duke commit he's a new jersey young man kane's national real ballers a couple of his travel teams you look at andre we saw him again he's another 13 new select fest alum he's gotten stronger can make a ballpark look small but it's his overall athleticism that really stands out a sub 7 runner despite being six foot five six foot six and he's only going to continue to grow into his frame which is a scary thought roon six six it's really incredible hey by the way he's from new jersey so you gotta believe he's gonna bring that new jersey attitude to your program too count me in for that he had a big break i mean as challenging as the quarantine and the lockdown was in the spring and even in the early summer his break was learning so his brother john pitches at indiana and brother came home i mean everything closed down brother came home well brother's a pitcher and even though andre is not a catcher per se he caught a lot of his brother's bullpens he talked college baseball with his brother he had him around he otherwise wouldn't have had that break good bender that's a couple that we've seen i'm sure andre also got some bp off his brother at the college level so that also helps stay not so rusty when some of the other players come out of quarantine only being able to do tea work folks this is a common story these athletes at this age at the all-american age of 17 used did not waste time they were creative when they needed to be they found friends and they were safe in the workouts and a lot of families as that one is high and inside mike a lot of families whether it's siblings that played dads or moms that used to play a sport kind of played together for the first time in a long time yeah really cool the different stories that you've heard about people to your points like getting creative figuring out ways to throw and ways to continue to get their workouts because obviously these are kids with big aspirations in the game of baseball didn't want to waste the time goes with the breaking ball that's a good take jeremy can you evaluate a player on how he takes a pitch that sounds simple does that make sense yeah you can see the rhythm the flow in the box you can see if he's balanced see what kind of he's looking for if he's looking curveball sitting curveball gets a curveball and still knows to take the curveball then you can tell kind of what he's thinking in the box he's got a runner in scoring position a lot of room in right center field as he fouls that one back to the screen that looked good to him yeah i think to to that point guys it's you know you look at the way a kid takes a pitch to see is this a kid that really sees the baseball well uh you know sometimes you worry are kids just guessing or just you know they've already made the decision to swing ahead of time i think the take can be revealing in that regard in on the hands and then there's the story of the duke program and the coaching staff and what they've done there i mean they are that's a program on fire right now back-to-back super regionals in 2018 and 2019 they went to game three of both supers which means you're one win away from omaha and then how about the duke commit and alex mooney winning mvp of the all-american classic yesterday three and two the count of good at bat being thrown down by meduno high fly ball there's that gap in right center field it's a long run out there that one dumps in quite easily curiel gave it a run siegler comes up with it fires it to the plate the cutoff the throw the tag and sliding right around with a pump of the fist and a score for the east manny marin executed nicely once they got to the baseball in a very nice throw to home plate by walcow but one to nothing [Music] that's one thing jeremy that i think the hitters can handle this park but the outfielders boy this is probably more real estate than they're used to covering kate aaron beatty puts it on the ground out to third it flattens and the throw is flattened across the diamond so a throw that's off the mark from jerome purify and a miscue means that everybody's safe runners are on first and third jaren had time that time just a just an inaccurate throw here's the challenge of these defenders they'll play just about every in-field position if you're a short stop you'll play second you'll play third it's a wonderful challenge though oh yeah get to show off again the athleticism you talk about the two ways but you also get the versatility on defense here you'll see him move around the infield may even get an inning in the outfield so when around that time pj morlando oh and won the count pj latson south carolina mississippi state commit and as a young man that when it's quiet when he's not working out you'll find him with a line in the water somewhere his passion is fishing kind of a common theme for a lot of our our southern athletes certainly that one sails up and away one ball and one strike the count to the son of christy and perry and by the way dad thank him for his service two decades serving in the united states air force so this summer from orlando was his first time on the perfect game scene with the kane's national team you always we kept cutting reports of big left-handed power big left-handed power we see it throughout the summer he comes here yesterday and he goes upper deck into the okc seat cover down the right field line just kind of power you don't see typically at the 14 new level or at the 25 you level for god's sakes i mean come on that's incredible close to the bag at second there is room certainly on the ground should he shoot it to the hole to the left side i'm guessing in an all-american game that's not what he's looking to do south the scene and walco the defender is out there these young men it was kind of a unique gear this event has never had the twists and turns as our lives have had i pop up into left field and he's going to square it up murray will tagging heading toward the plate throw trickles on in runner will stay put at first base another run by the way for the east squad and then the select festival the 14u gentlemen it's a two to nothing score of the east on top getting it done professional at bat hey jeremy i want to ask you for victorian struggled with his fastball early in this outing but found the breaking ball right away i mean i think that's fairly advanced as well you don't see a lot of young pitchers that can go to multiple offerings this early in a game when they're in a jam absolutely when you're able to have that pitch you can really lean on then it kind of helps you settle in and establish the fastball it gives you an advantage and kudos to raphael velasquez behind the plate for trying to recognize that and start throwing down the two between his legs during for these at-bats number 55 michael molinax he's out of canton georgia north cop christian his school this is a 2024 grad heading into his freshman year at high school it's for the very respected east cobb astros runner on the move popping the tag down that is a natural athlete look i don't want to overlook the stolen base because that's a great jump but how comfortable is south the scene at short he that's going to be his bread and butter throughout his career to be able to get the tag on a high throw slap it down and still make it a bang bang play it's it's incredible he's fun to watch he's a guy you're you're paying for that you're paying to watch him play how about velasquez but the arm strength too by the way it's a cannon behind the dish one and one the count on number 55 and it is popped up left side trickling back into shallow center field called off out there that one is put away by derrick curiel the perfect game 14u baseball select festival getting started a couple of runs for the e squad we'll meet that west squad when we come back to oklahoma city [Music] defense you can always make a play create it in your mind you're always trying to time when the ball is hitting the bat [Music] wherever i am i know where it is [Applause] one two three i'm gonna have to start jumping nothing more satisfying than making a big play [Applause] it's a warm day certainly but these athletes enjoying the weather you get loose easily and if you're in an all-star game setting where pitchers are warming up every single inning certainly is worthwhile to enjoy the middle of america heat curiel emerson theodore gillen as we take a look on down velasquez we've seen him throw siegler walco south of the scene so natural newsroom out of arizona waldrop that's one through nine we hit 17 deep though take it away and again you got jaron purify who we saw in the first inning burke mabias a switch hitter out of nevada the taurus murray at 13u select festival of law miles goshen david hogg another ou commit zach edwards our first ever utah native matthew champion a two-way prospect committed to asu and parker pico a young alabama commit jansen kenti is on the mound this is a young man who is committed to go to alabama he's from noon in georgia georgia jackets his travel team he's the son of alison and chris and again mike rooney a player that finds his way as a college commitment as he heads into what is his sophomore year yeah and it's i think these games we start to it's almost like a time machine for college baseball and seeing a program like alabama brad bohannon took over a few years ago and they've really been on the rise and you start seeing them getting commits of this caliber at a national level and uh not surprising to see kent pitching early in this ball game so kenti might be a name you also recognize from the little league world series if in fact you ever tune in every august uh went with the petrie city team out of georgia and it's fun to watch if you did see them kind of progress already committed now the fastball's working into the upper 80s already gets a start for the east team here at the 14 new uh select festival so the southpaw for the e squad in that red top we'll take a look at easton red weston navy derek curiel will lead things off derek orange lutheran or olu as those that live in southern california call it heck around the nation it's a pretty well known program coach bourbon the head coach there west covina is home he's a freshman that's the trinity league i mean you can make an argument that trinity league's the best high school league in america jay sarah in there as well i mean that is a powerhouse league good breaking ball stayed back as long as he could and shoots it the other way i'm always amazed jeremy at the patience for the hitters in games like this whether it's at the all-american level at 17 you or this age where you let it travel let it travel or you'll take pictures that are close you don't come here to walk but at the same time you're not going to swing out of your shoes and swing out of the zone and curiel's hand-eye coordination is amongst some of the best here in the class i'm amazed at i mean he really puts a charge in the baseball for a kid that is still fairly slight i mean there's still a lot of strength that he's going to put on this dives down and in a slender high-waisted build as you mentioned ruined probably grew an inch or two over the last calendar year from when we saw him at norman he picked up 19 hits at the 14uwba it's a week-long tournament so kinda just speaks to the bat to ball skills the gap gap type strength in and out of the catcher's minute goes so we'll do it again and it's funny you talk about all those hits he picked up and yet to add to that thought just to put a capper on it he also walks seven times there are those walks and so you finish a week against the best players your age and your own bases close to 600 right and not only once he gets on base it doesn't end there you got the stolen bases the runs the rbis and then we're going to see him again in center field where he truly is going to be a gold glove type defender down the road waited as long as he could asks for a moment as he steps out left hander kenti georgia jackets east koita georgia alabama awaits his arrival and again a very young man because if you're a sophomore playing in this game you are a young man confident enough runes with the double pump freeze over the rubber there yeah and throws you can see he's a natural strike thrower too it reminds us mason albright who was so dominant in the the all-american classics very similar he's got gives you different looks and still throws strikes and that he has a full repertoire we've already seen the fastball curveball slider the slider there but having those different tempos and variations it almost gives you a whole another pitch because now that something else the pit the hitter has to worry about timing wise well it's a good breaking ball big differentiation and velocity there 69 miles an hour and this is again one of those matchups where you know clearly america is sold on derrick curiel like he's a great player but see him against a really competent left-handed pitcher and see what that looks like and kenti takes care of business go 86 and on the hands showed him the whole kitchen sink ultimately wins the battle and that's something kenty's done kind of all summer whether it be at the wwba at the world series at the 14u national showcase where he cruised through two innings on like eight pitches he just he pounds the strike zone and that's what you want out of a young arm that's an impressive strikeout with curiel the caliber player that he is that's one for the resume heavy heavy heavy in i mean if you can command away with something soft heck he commanded in with his breaking ball too it's another lefty on lefty with ohio native colt emerson the son of stacy and jamie team elite his travel team and one and one the count on colt 23 grand heading into his sophomore year of school and his freshman year he was a good enough athlete colt to play football varsity as a freshman wow jeremy watching emerson take in and out i mean the actions just jump out at you he's so smooth defensively he is he's smooth he and what that speaks to in terms of his athleticism is he's grown a noticeable inch to three inches since last summer so he's still finding his body but he still has the coordination body control to to uh maintain his footwork still work through the ball and remained smooth and polished well is that one cheated out front just a little bit so we'll do it again cater ombedi is his catcher behind home plate working with jansen kenti okay the floor to commit we'll see him catch for a couple of innings a nine inning contest it's a showcase game certainly but again these teams value winning spoiled a good breaking ball there that's what i mean right there i mean you're hanging you're hanging you're not nearly leaking out front and you only swing at it because you must otherwise it's strike three yeah and it's really impressive at bat for emerson where you're dealing with a pretty hot fastball and a breaking ball for a strike that pitch is high 87 miles an hour now when talking about victorian and talking about kenti again the velocity in the upper 80s is easy velocity they're not flying all over the place and as a result of that they're in the strike zone for the most part so he threw what two or three lefty on lefty changeups there yeah he's comfortable doing the tom glavin change up lefty on lefty we just got to see everything within two pitchers from kenti everything's around the strike zone everything comes out of the same release point sometimes at this age you're gonna get a lower elbow a lower slot and it kind of tips it for the batters but for kenti everything stays in that same tunneled release and that again aids in deception for the opposing hitter theodore gillen west lake high school austin texas and his travel team the lone star baseball club this is the son of libby and sam gilland's uh gillum put together a curiel type performance this past fall down in west palm uh i don't think he ever got out throughout the course of it he had to hit like 700 on the week anytime you dig in and watch him he's hitting a ball to the gap it's a double it's a double it's a triple and his speed might be even his biggest tool out of everything breaking ball up in and popped up back of short rin drifts back can't put it away no one on top of the bag son hi sky look we shot her open out there earlier today it's tough to deal with and the outfielders who probably had a better look at that one stuck with him to make the play i think a lot of them couldn't find it you can see davis with his hands out by his side the center fielder there definite high sky and again just getting used to your your coat your fellow defenders being so far away from you in a field of this size rafael velazquez huntington beach high school really strong baseball program breaking ball high and inside and hits the end of the bat look like it dropped foul for strike one another fun part of these games i think is with the catchers are so elite and aaron beatty obviously has a big reputation he's going to face some really fast base runners and it's going to be fun to see some guys challenge him well it's a perfectly placed fastball a little two-seam sink to it lefty don't ever think away or you'll have some firewood in your hands with a pitch like that there's something there there's something in the picture that can do that in and then throw change ups left on left goes back out with a fastball just off the plate i'll tell you i really like that kinty's had some adversity walks a guy how you know generates a pop-up that should be an out and right back with strikes you know not he really showing an ability to get to the next pitch get to the next pitch while hitting a spot you see aaron beatty set up out pitch prior hits a spot rafael velasquez doesn't chase well he's been out there a couple of times velasquez is really fits the prototype in my mind of the southern california ball player he just plays with a joy place with a great pace never gets rushed and can really hit not interested and we've got the sacks full of those navy blue jerseys out there and the west squad trying to bounce right back a big opportunity for brennan zigler first time we get to see kenti uh throw against a right-handed hitter too ziegler fairgood high school knoxville tennessee he's entering his freshman year of high school 85 miles an hour just a little bit off the corner so with siegler what you're going to get here is a really advanced hit tool the barrel stays in the zone for a long time he actually won the mvp of the 14u wwba just a natural feel really linear through the zone can spray the line drives to all parts of the field and it's a type of body just standing next to him you know he's going to fill out you know the power is going to come as he starts putting some lift into a swing path he homered in that event as well had it on base of just under 5 50. a change up over the outside corner and that first swing you could see sigler really whistles the bat through the zone it's a confident swing definitely and the change up there try to set the tone for the next pitch keep them off base that anvil fastball dives in home plate good and heavy but outside two and two the count bottom of the first inning east on top by a score of the 14 you select festival a 2-2 breaking ball runs it to 3-2 just one out in the inning good block there though too by kate to get get his body over in front of it instead of trying to just stick it with his glove could have been a run blocks it up now 3-2 still has a chance to get out of the inning on one pitch right back to the screen it goes hang with us we'll be handing out awards and we'll get rolling right after the second inning comes to an end a whole bunch of hardware to hand out in the world of safety and social distancing didn't have one of our epic banquets we've been able to have every year but we want to honor these young men so we'll do it with you and in the ballpark that'll be a lot of fun swinging and a miss down he goes just a little two seamer down and away the life on the pitch when you're able to get that away from the left or the right-handed hitter obviously that'd be in on the righty lefty man for strike three you you got to see the whole arsenal against siegler and kenty went back to what's been working for him the most thus far yeah and having the composure to make a big pitch and as big of a spot as you're going to throw in big george walco takes strike one over the outside corner the son of kate and nate both went to western michigan both were college athletes you see the height there they handed it down dad played football at school and mom played volleyball underneath that breaking ball a little bit not much tilt one and one the 14 you level when you're six six it's very easy to get uncoordinated and not really have control of your body but george plays is always a six foot athlete really controls himself keeps everything in balance swinging to miss it a changeup to the backstop it goes and that costs the run on the throwback it cost another [Applause] i hate to see that happen because the left-hander obviously in an exhibition game most important to point out but the left-hander had made a great pitch to take it to one and two a change up left on left to fold the hitter badly then things got sideways yeah one pitch away from wiggling out of this thing and obviously there's a lot of traffic there good base running unfortunate for kenti one and two the count fastball inside corner there's the pitch we were talking about a dandy he struck out the side and there is the play that had things cost a second run there just a moment ago so we have played one inning here at the perfect game select baseball festival danny wechselman take it away tony anderson antonio you and i had a long conversation this morning i asked you is there anything else you want to tell me about yourself you bury the lead you tell me you're part of jackie robinson's family tree what is jackie's legacy meant to you it means a lot to me i'm walking in his footsteps and his family and my family taught a lot about him and i read a lot about him he's just a great person on and off the field you also told me that you know nico goodrim when nico comes home he helps you out part of the detroit tigers what has nico taught you on and off the field well on the field he told me fundamentals mental things and off the field you taught me how to be a person what to do and what not to do i know you're going to get in the game a little later we look forward to that thank you so much thank you hey don't go anywhere the 14 you perfect game select festival on perfect game.tv we'll be right back don't wait for tomorrow make the days count gatorade has carbs to fuel and electrolytes to help replenish so you can count on the proven formula nothing beats gatorade we dropped a bowling ball on a wine bottle protected only by our soft flexible g-form elbow guard we did the same thing with the other guy's guard but this isn't bowling it's baseball g-form baseball guards flexible during play hardens on impact jack frankel is the right-hander warming and getting loose for the west squad this game is tied up at two apiece kenti really good stuff and you can see him cooling off inside the dugout number 27 on that jersey for jack frankel we saw him last year jeremy at the 13 news select festival how has he evolved this going into his freshman year at ou last year we probably saw him 82-83 on the fastball that's climbed now 87.89 told me he's gonna touch at least 90 today but it's the pitch ability ruins are really going to love this the change up the slider he's going to go to at any count he has confidence he pounds the strike zone everything moves nothing's going to be the same and we've seen him dominate every time he's take taking the hill this summer certainly are really clean mechanics you love to see that as a you always worry about the young pitchers just the body control and being aware of their mechanics but boy these are smooth get to know ryan gold he'll also hop up on the mound and work as a left-handed pitcher smyrna slammers ryan gold one of his travel teams campbell high school and boy when you put him on the mound his last couple of events in which he is pitched he has missed so many bats i know he's hitting now folks but his last 13 and two-thirds pg innings two strikeouts in inning fly ball center field late break great speed running it down murray there litares murray with the play frankel already here working mid upper 80s as roone said it's the mechanics that really stand out and you can see latars here gets a closing speed really good runner we've seen it throughout the summer but in regards to frankel it's the mechanics as you mentioned his ability to repeat pitch to pitch that really has served him well thus far freshman in high school this young man angel cepeda union city new jersey union hill high school long throw deep in the hole not in time wow what an effort there nearly a spectacular play by young colt emerson an infield hit that time for sepeda but i love the effort defensively how about that i mean we're seeing some great baseball plays for emerson to even throw accurately on the run like that make it even any kind of close play i love the early in the count guys ready to hit frankel pounding the zone good defense being played this is you love it anthony trelongo takes the bat and goes to work the son of rachel and joseph a 13 new select festival alum he was the mvp of the game last year jeremy we saw this last year we saw shockingly good defense as we don't see it there that one is thrown away into the seat it's a pick-off throw but just to reflect on what we saw there and what we saw last year there's a lot of great defense last year and at the 14-u dinner this year that's something our founder jerry ford talked about was just how good the defense was and we've seen it with colt we ruined you talked about how good colt emerson is defensively up the middle people will tell me he's still even better behind the plate wow so that kind of just speaks again to his versatility athleticism and the overall package with the young ohio native well i can i my advice to colt emerson would be to sell his catcher's gear because he is too good at shortstop to not do that that was incredible to even get to that baseball let alone make an accurate throw at the same time in field outfield straight moving around trying to keep the runner close at second base 86 miles an hour over the outside half a little bit offended by that everyone should remain a catcher this former pitcher loves when everyone catches there's not enough catchers in the world well you pitchers need to understand that cold emerson can only play one position at a time which is problematic i know a big jump but it's popped up to the right side hands out by his side and that one is put away david hogg the second who is the second baseman for the second out of the inning jeremy talked about him coming on the air you may remember him from last year you may see him on social media one of the more popular players at this age group known very well around the nation prairie gravel and the mlb breakthrough series his two travel teams zion rose the catcher chicagoland area and he takes a pitch a little bit high 1-0 the count with the rose you we have him behind the plate he threw 82 miles per hour at the 14 new national showcase popped a 1-8-2 ran a six six so all his name's all over the record record books he's just as good in the outfield he was 90 miles per hour from the outfield big jump fire down waiting i mean waiting on top of the bag and a nice job popping that tag down butter bowled by velazquez as he throws that one down to third waldrop popped the tag down beautifully the arm strength that's just an unfair weapon at this level 82 at the national and we've seen money throws from him already throughout the first two innings 2-2 our score perfect game select festival [Music] hello [Music] [Music] when you put on a glove it's important to make sure it feels right it's like putting on your shoes to go to work my rollins glove is really that important to me someone says something you can't live without you know that's how it is as a baseball player i imagine not having your phone around all the time [Music] i'm very fortunate to have this thing i think it just gives you more confidence knowing that you have everything that's ready to go for the day yeah i love it yeah i know that i'm ready to go with it bricktown ballpark a beautiful part of this town country music singers baseball legends name the streets around these parts and the right-hander noah lafine goes to work a young man out of ohio the native of uniontown ohio tri-state arsenal his travel team where's number four that single digit and he has another four to make it number 44. he was a young man where we'll see pitchers with just that number one four but not in this young man 86 at the 14u national showcase such a great event at 14u national when you saw him pitch there when you saw him touch that number what did you evaluate you look at him he's 510 slight and built but the arm quickness it really stands out we saw him even up to 88 throughout the summer at the 14 new world series makes quick work he's going to pound down at the knees if fastball is going to have life first time i ever saw him only fastball's second outing he starts showing the slider the change up you have a complete arsenal and you have a big time arm here out of ohio and one of the other fan favorites if you will at this age group the other one jeremy talked about tie south the scene he loves javi baez he loves san diego state that's where he's committed as he begins his freshman year tai does in henderson nevada coronado high school boy javi baez is a great model for south the scene they've got the same kind of joy that they play with and just lets it rip a little leg kick going on there yeah and you might point that out and say it's going to get them off time but again the hand-eye coordination for south has seen it just speaks to so many levels of athleticism with them and i just i think he's a kid that plays with there's so much fun and joy in his game i don't think i'd want to take any of that away from him he'll figure it out like he'll figure out the timing and settling himself down over time but you never want to take the the energy he plays with away puts that one on the left side on the ground up with it fielding and firing with a bolt across the diamond there my goodness to shortstop cepeda danny wexleman with a quick note danny yeah i just want to let you guys know i talked to tai earlier this week and i said what have you been working on what what how have you changed since the 13 you select festival he told me i've been working on myself i wanted to mature i want to be a better son a better man and take school more seriously all right well i think everybody tried to better themselves when they were at home and you know from what we've seen we may be a little bit more at home than we wanted to in the fall too so a lot of these athletes are not physically going into buildings to go to school and they're not really going back to their traditional workouts a place like california they're not even close to jim's opening out there a lot of body weight type stuff a lot of cardio and you just have to make the most of what you can i mean how many of us remember being that age and literally only worked out when some adult made you do it and you're happy to do it but these kids don't have that luxury right now it's really incredible they're disciplined excited to get to know this young man a little better we saw him last year chris newstrum ruins he's an arizona guy so he's a little bit near and dear to our hearts that's our home state he's from scottsdale goes to chaparral high school which is quite a factory of producing great athletes good students too but he's an asu commit already tracy smith hello we're glad you're watching tracy this is one of your guys yeah the sun devils are looking good in this game between new stream and matt champion but new stream's a kid the arm really works and he can literally play every position on the field pitch down and away got him that time that's as much about location as it is velocity that's just a good comfortable two-strike pitch mike yeah and lafine's got it's it's just natural arm strength as jeremy mentioned and you can see it's getting on the hitters fastball here sitting every pitch pretty much at 88 we had an 88.5 on the trackman system and he is working around the zone he saw the little two seam right there got neustrom out front obviously newsroom has the power we saw in the home run derby now we'll see what he does with the left-handed hitting tanner waldrop as that one is shot to the left side inside good fastball turned that one loose as much as any that he has in this outing yeah the finds a little old-fashioned and how he throws right it's just arm strength coming at you here we go big on big i like it swing and a miss that one dives away in with cut away with dive and it misses that left-handed swing in and out of the catcher's mitt i think that lefine is one of those kids there's a lot of what he does that just naturally gifted arm where you do the fastball's got some life and i i would imagine he's one of those kids that hitters will tell you the fastball is really tough to get on dropped his hands in there on the ground a couple of nice plays a good effort out there that's a heck of an inning at shortstop by angel cepeda 2-2 our score representing our friends and partners with augusta jorge and jill ricera antonio anderson the augusta impact award and congratulations to antonio anderson mvp of the super 25 national championship with a 550 on base percentage congratulations a big round of applause for antonio the winner of the augusta impact award get to know another man on the mound parker pico goes to work this young man parker pico in that navy blue jersey for the west squad he's out of rochester hills michigan you ever been there it's right outside of detroit he's the youngest of three boys there's a twin involved so he's only a couple of minutes younger than his twin brother but this is parker pico h we got to know him last year he's a two-time select festival athlete he uh his his game overall has really taken the step from the next level from last year he's added some strength the fastball velocity has climbed and he's still a very legitimate two-way prospect an easy 86 as he fires strike one in there does parker pico to zion rose rose hitting in the last inning when there was a caught stealing at third so we get to see him again as a breaking ball never got there a proud product sorry runes of the of the mlb breakthrough series tony regans who has now moved up in ranks with the major league baseball operations the development of all things baseball development and youth baseball along with del matthews have put that group together zion also part of the dream series this upcoming year the development of african american pitchers and catchers but just a fun athlete yeah and i would say that the breakthrough series went from being a really cool idea to wow that's a legit travel unit like overnight made an adjustment on a breaking ball that was up out over the plate rolled to the left side george walco is there and he makes the play on across the diamond so zion rose is the first out of this inning well we look forward to the evolution of the game especially in the positions of pitcher and catcher with regard to african-american athletes because the future is there and it's exciting to see and tip of the cap to major league baseball for their efforts and these athletes for loving this sport taking on this sport jeff lugie out of mechanicsburg pennsylvania 4.0 in the classroom and a really good quarterback too and one of mike rooney's favorite towns to say mechanic there's some really cool town names in my home state of pennsylvania now i'm going to find you a notable alum from mechanicsburg pennsylvania sutt okay you're on it i'm on it right next door to jeff here is uh benny montgomery too saw them these two hanging around last night around the players lounges so i'm glad you brought that up we started to go down that road and then there was some action this is a unique year we probably won't ever be here again it'll be spread out for three different weekends but the 13 you the 14u and the perfect game all americans were able to pass by one another now the spoils to the quote unquote big leaguers they had a few more spoils than the 13 and 14 uses that's ball four but to your point there were great times for conversation guys from regions connecting i think that's very cool absolutely you get to kind of pick each other's brains and as roon said this is just one stepping stone within your perfect game career the all-american classics the end goal of your perfect game career amongst other milestones moving forward cameron davis takes off the plate outside anacar as mom roosevelt davis dad dad played football at rhode island cambo his nickname he's one of the more physical players we have here ran a 658 won the fastest man award last night when we did the 14 new national showcase awards high-end football player we got to talk to him during the roster reveal how he balances the schedule of being a high-end athlete in both and here we are we're seeing him still excel on the baseball field excel on the football field despite being only 14 years old and it's like a mini bo jackson with that combination of just raw strength and electric speed simple thrower to first but you can notice a lot with the athleticism of a pitcher he's just comfortable with things like that younger pitchers you know he'll vary his moves very the way he fires over the runner does take off pitches high throwdown sails high on a backup a nice job there but from behind home play velazquez sailed that one a little bit over miles goshen matthew champion was behind to clean it up well and let's keep the green light on because i want to see velasquez throw about 10 more times that is a thing of beauty that's a bazooka back there that's an arm that plays at any level right now as you see it's simple mechanics a little high on the throw but we've seen the throws on the money throughout the summer throughout this game even so good pitch darts over the outside corner from the right arm of pico and alabama commit you folks follow baseball pretty closely you remember jason thompson who pitched for the detroit tigers that was parker's first ever coach and youth and travel baseball he was a tiger favorite during his time on the mound and lake call of time and that alabama staff doing a really nice job recruiting the north do you think about their ace their freshman ace last year connor prielipp is a wisconsin kid you you knew jeremy was only a matter of time before alabama was going to get really good yeah absolutely they're showing as you said the ability to kind of expand their boundaries of recruiting they're not afraid to go anywhere it takes them and they're going younger younger we have three alabama commits in this game alone antonio anderson now we just saw anderson win that award it's he plays for the east cobb program he's a legitimate switch hitter at some at this younger ages you can see a kid and it's like um he can hit right-handed but can he do it in game can he do it left-handed can you do it in-game anderson can is a legitimate switch hitter speaks to his skills on both sides of the plate polished defender and we're going to see him on the mound later on this game here is antonio anderson we're talking a little bit earlier about the talented young athlete tanner waldrop from auburn alabama i think someone might have inadvertently said probably me that he was an auburn comment he's a non-committed athlete he just lives in auburn he's goes to auburn high school but tanner certainly wanted to point that out heading into his freshman year good quarterback good basketball player too tanner waldrop auburn high school we'll see where he ends up playing and what he ends up playing is that one is high we've seen pico here up to 87 really short compact arm action it's as easy a velocity as you're going to see you want to kind of go out there and say parker let it rip and see if he can run it up it's just that easy of a delivery we saw him throw a no-hitter this summer during the world series where he won the mv pitcher award and he's still here just sitting 84 86 with the fastball very comfortably the switch hitter antonio anderson out of atlanta georgia the winner of the augusta impact award draws the walk 39 pg events to east cobb astros competitor evan hager takes his opportunity outfielder detroit catholic central he is an alabama command there's bragging rights through it sorry there's bragging rights right here pico and evan hager summer teammates motor city hit dogs they won the 14 new world series together one envy pitcher one mvp both committed to alabama there's a lot on the line right here jeremy you divided him up on the roster huh yeah okay i like that a little creativity as that troll trickles into center field the throws there at second not in time so the throw was there trickling in behind antonio anderson just snuck in under the tag champion thinking come on now i thought i had him we got two michigan kids here in pico and hager and we also have jeremy purify a third and that's something we've seen a lot of lately with michigan really coming on the scene at the younger levels nolan shubert mvp last year alex mooney mvp of the all-american classic last night just a lot of high-end talent coming out of michigan lately yeah and obviously at the collegiate level you know michigan's been good at baseball for many years and they've been on uh really coming on under eric bakitch but really a literally a win away from a national championship last year there's no doubt the tour related though i mean you can look at success locally whatever whether it's your high level college team or your major league team certainly the tigers years back successful those were these young men were born around when the tigers started to rebuild themselves or at least young enough to start playing but you can absolutely tie it to the passion of the sport you saw it in milwaukee for those years that the brewers have gotten good suddenly the midwest michigan places like wisconsin producing a high level of baseball player and there are good athletes in michigan michigan is a very underrated athletic state i believe runners on second and third also on top of that we had luke leto last night's game another young michigander all-american classic select festival alum they just continue to come every year you hear a name you track them down and it's legitimate tools legitimate baseball skill right up under the hands and a strikeout parkour pico i've enjoyed watching you work 2-2 a brand new relationship perfect game in k-motion honor to change the way you play evaluate yourself grow your game all the way through to college and you hope professional baseball representing k-motion steve diamond the k-motion award goes to manny maron congratulations manny we'll get a chance to see another man from michigan hit we'll also get to see a tall lanky left-hander go to work his name is jackson sanders this is a young man out of the area we were just talking about this area and the auburn city limits and just outside of it opelika alabama that's where jackson sanders is from he is valley high school jackson is an auburn commit yeah he's an auburn commit committed there earlier this year kind of came on the scene throughout the summer we saw the commitment we hadn't seen him in about two three years his profile still had him listed at like five nine clearly not five nine anymore you start sending out some texts early in the winter you say hey what's he all about now and you're like mid upper 80s and you're like okay then you get to see him in the summer one of the few arms in this game that's already touched 90 miles per hour at a pg event that pitch dives down and away purify gives that one a ride down the line into the corner it goes and a nice job tracking that baseball down wow couple of wows there first of all mullinex and what he did going to get that baseball secondly the pure juice in the bat of mr purify jaron the little league world series hero the young man out of detroit he's not in the little league anymore those skills are going to play he committed to michigan this summer and there that's mullinax with the quick first step jaron turns around thinks it's at least a double off the bat but then as we can kind of see here with mullinax even fighting the shadows that's not any difficult that's not an easy play at all runes yeah that's and this outfield is hard to play he's going from sun to shadow again you said it's just a great baseball player hitters ready to hit pitchers pounding the zone playing great defense behind them a catch out of henderson nevada burke mabius mountain west his travel team and this is a scout this is a young man who is very very active as a scout that's been a big part of his life he hits a high fly ball into left center field the two athletes come together and again it's the left fielder there slicing in front mullenex making the play in front of jackson walker second out of the inning molenex is just saying i'll cover it myself he heard us talking about how big the outfield is putting his sub 7 speed on display get to see maybe it's his right-handed swing here true switch hitter again with real power so maybe we'll see the left-handed at-bat later on in this game latoris murray we saw him at this game last year he takes a fastball over the inside at 89 for strike one this is a great athlete multiple sports great track star one of the at his age group one of the better runners in the country and to me some challenging events four by 100 relay aau champion and 200 meter national champion at his age group too all that track accomplishment and here he is for baseball right-handed hitter really good bat-to-ball skill the hand-eye coordination really stood out throughout the summer obviously the speed's going to impact his overall game hitch should top the lineup and put up numbers throughout the year and it depends what sport you're into i have one that's my favorite that he plays as he takes that one up and away i love that he dominates on the debate team yes that means you'd sit down and go toe-to-toe with him and see who research is better and who spits it out best i gotta be honest i like that best yeah as long as we're not debating with our elders when we're being told to do certain things so debate team is only for your peer group he's like a parent there didn't he well done i have disobedient dogs they're always hollering back at you yes he's flexing with that back arm as he holds the bat i didn't want to boy what a tight spinning breaking ball that is outstanding pitch that that is a really good outing for jackson sanders the left-hander outstanding stuff for the e-squad well there's so many ways you can go with ryan gold and wherever you go he succeeds and that is what makes this young man and following his journey very exciting the young man out of smyrna georgia a left-handed pitcher but when you put a bat in his hands he can homer a bunch there is big power there is a lot of talent perfect game presents the two-way player of the year and representing perfect game as perfect game ceo brad clement a big round of applause for the two-way player of the year ryan gold congratulations ryan all right another picture to get to know and his name is is a fun one it's a good baseball name ridge morgan ridge morgan out of austin texas westwood high school and non-commit heading into his freshman year lone star baseball club his travel team what do we know jeremy it looks like at the 14 uw wba he was up to 87 miles an hour tell us more 87 can dot to either side that short compact arm action through the back allows him to repeat pitch to pitch the slider is a difference maker already like up to 87 miles per hour similar slot as a fastball is going to go to it in any type any count and he's somebody who just really fills the strike zone and he's got a man with presence hovering over the plate we saw him last year and he certainly as a young man we've seen for a couple of years earning your looks right he's been earning your looks but he's now up to six four and it's daniel cuvee he's a sophomore a younger sophomore out of fort lauderdale florida he's a miami commit it's big right-handed power last last fall we saw him on the mound it was already mid-80s then but his ability to stay simple drive the ball to all fields as we see really stands out ziggler looks right into that sun and he makes the play for the first out here in the top of the fourth then in cuvee st thomas aquinas plays for the elite squad his travel team six four exit velocities in the mid 90s on occasion but he is an enormous physical kid and he moves really well on his feet though you think maybe a big kid at 14 is not going to have any type of lateral agility and it's light on the feet it's obvious arm strength and it's the overall package of what you want the building blocks to look like at this age level campbell smithwick doesn't even allow us to introduce him diving play out there in center field derrick curiel hauls it in and a flex after he hauls that baseball into his glove so we had curiel last year in the 13 new festival made a diving plate coming in on a ball right on the ou logo now we have them covering what looked like extra bases off the bat really good closing speed really good first jump off the bat as well to take away extra base hit right to work swinging the bat popped up right side top spin lob over the head of the first baseman i mean just a straight yvonne lendl top spin lob there that's jackson walker hello jackson out of tennessee georgia commit his travel team the home plate chili dog an active travel player 33 pg events but a base hit for jackson ridge morgan's throwing enough strikes here getting early contact that we haven't been able to talk about anybody no it's and as we said with the slider he went through it first pitch we're seeing mid 80s fastball out out of him some good swings from campbell smithwick a young ole miss commit now we're back to the top of the lineup it is going fast it really stands out how aggressive these kids have been in this game pretty awesome i mean you know your first pitch of the game for rich morgan you throw your slider i love that the kids swing in first pitch tremendous manny maron pitches away 85 miles an hour we turned on the exit velocity machine there a moment ago maybe we'll see that on occasion i think roone's reached back and plugged it in love it eyeballing it do it to the count more awards to give away by the way that one is fouled off at home play seeing the short sink here out of morgan's fastball too obviously he's physically projectable he's six four not a lot of meat on his bones just yet but the arm speed and he'll he's gonna hold the velocity saw him a couple starts a summer throughout wwba and he gets stronger the further he goes into a game which really speaks to his ability to maintain and just the type of conditioning he's in that he can grow stronger despite not being as physical as some of the other players in this game and the feel for the slider is clear already and i that i mean that's something that you know some pitchers will spend their whole career trying to get a feel for a pitch like that already fairly advanced there we saw in the first at bat manny with a walk and a run scored as he moved around the bases quickly andre meduno singling him home he takes a pitch just off the plate yep free to go i believe young man you are free to go manny heads on down the miami commit i think he was trying to steal a strike there so he could get another one to swing at and we are in violation no one's running on oh we got gavin newsom back there now so yeah there you go newsroom has moved behind home plate we'll have a quick conversation arizona represented behind the plate we know about velasquez's arm strength uh new strums not any easier to steal on he's been mid 80s on the mound might touch higher i think he was up to 80 behind the plate during drills during the 14 new nationals so it's still big time arm strength behind the plate middle infielder type athleticism so the east squad's not going to get any free bases easy bases by any means good pitch little cut to it over the outside corner at 86 miles an hour to bryce clavon another thing that's standing out here with morgan is his ability to maintain the velocity of the stretch younger players sometimes they don't get into their legs as much and they're going to throw more arm less momentum throw down to third stolen you may see a dip but with morgan he's still consistent right there at the 85 86 mile an hour range i'm gonna correct myself it's chris neustrom gavin newsom is the governor of california i believe so well who did play college baseball though he did he's been in the news some so that's fair enough that's a natural that's a very understandable thing one and two the count quick quick thought on bryce clavon danny i want to let you guys know that when i talked to bryce this morning he told me that he's been working on his spanish because baseball has so much diversity he wants to be a better teammate he wants to be able to have conversations with all of his teammates by the way he broke his nose just this past july a few months ago he was hit by a pitch so he's back in action now he's been cooking more his best dish guys pancakes of course car bloat that's right pancakes are touchy they're not as easy as you would think you can ruin a pancake in a second yeah that's a good point that's yeah everybody you know and danny wasn't disrespecting the pancake but you just can't start throwing pancakes out there like it's nothing good for clayvon i think when a pancake becomes next layer and a nice job behind the plate by noostrom is when you start a mix in whether you want to put some pecans chocolate chips maybe now you're really testing fate yep that's right that's next level i think that's that's really smart by clayvon too because no adult's gonna gonna steal your pancakes they're too heavy on the carbs so he's really it's really seeing the whole field there i like it three and two the count and a take and that's ball four clayvon will reach back-to-back walks [Music] this is kind of like for rich morgan this is you need a pitch i think you might see it here first pitch um we saw an obvious first pitch of his outing but just to kind of reestablish things kind of like we saw with lane and victorian go to what you're comfortable with maybe get something off the end of the bat stay away from inner inner middle in with maduna big tall strong presence don bosco prep his school duke awaits his arrival there's that athleticism from new strum jumping out snagging the pitch which could have gone to the backstop and given the east an early lead that's a scottsdale dirtbag back there you can't shake them and nustrom's going to be in his high school program chaparral they have had paul connerko like davis boy they have had some high level baseball players one and one the count breaking ball couldn't bring it back into the strike zone 77 miles an hour two and one the count i think jeremy a lot of times kids this age play a lot of positions but you can kind of tell where they're gonna end up i don't know that about neustrum i mean he's one of those kids that's really proficient a lot of different places and has a college program he's he's still a couple years away from getting there but when you have that type of versatility as you know runes you can kind of plug them and you feel comfortable wherever you put them he can play any of the nine and you feel confident with him out there for however many outs you need him to get h i know you talked about this but modulo to shift to the hitter has been playing up a lot this summer and not only playing up but earning hardware and you're 14 you're playing at the 15 new events and you know events like the 15u world series where you're offensive player of that event you have a 772 on base you're playing many 15 new events you're invited to be a part of the 15 you national team trials just a special player that's a good take that had to look really good that's an rbi because of it with meduno some of these players do play up and it's one thing to play up at a younger age and it's another to perform right and that's something he's done the power plays and he plays on a national program with the cane so you know you're seeing high end arms every time out as well mike rooney darren sutton danny wexleman and jeremy brown glad to have you with us we want to say hello to all you college coaches watching out there because we know there's a lot of you the outside corner strike one to kate r b day i get it whenever i get a text from a coach i'm not so sure you know i don't know if there's secret recruiting and don't tell anyone i'm watching i never know if i'm supposed to give a a shout out as a young kid say or not you know i i don't know jay johnson if i'm supposed to say hi to you as that one is dying inside the head coach at the university of arizona i'm not sure if i'm supposed to ruins what's what's protocol there there is no protocol side it's it's uh you know just you're free to do what you want to do this is your it's it's your party these are unchartered times we're all learning on the same same step here so actually correct high pop right side long run and i mean long run ziggler can't make the play that one dumps in that will empty the bases all the way to third standing up rmb day he'll hustle back to the bag but he played at three playing him to pull in that alley and that's just a mile to run and in the end brandon zigler couldn't get there we keep saying how much real estate's out there doesn't hit especially hard off the barrel but sometimes placement over exit velocity will get the job done yeah and to your point h it's this field being the size it is you can't outrun maybe uh the wrong positioning or not seeing the ball perfectly right off the bat you can't try to cheat in because some of the strength of these hitters they can burn you as well and then you're running either way so you have to try to find the happy medium and there's just so much space out there there's the effort that time dave long reminded me that i was supposed to say hello to everyone on the arizona staff not just jay well it's a good point the great coach lawn into the middle of the diamond and a base hit into center field pj morlando with a single in an rbi and the add-on is on he's showing it's not just about power as he puts that one back up the middle uh the power stands out it's big time juice but we really threw out all the rounds of bp and everything got to see him work on a line line two line and he's more than just a power bat i don't care what level of baseball it is guys when you see a guy juice a line drive right up in the middle of the field that is beautiful baseball so a little bit more of ridge morgan hello junior spivey part of that great coaching staff junior spivey world series champion had some amazing years in the big leagues and a great athlete went out to visit on the mound and tom flash gordon two decade major leaguers in that other dugout great time to learn if you're a young player from guys like that michael mullanex now fly to center field north cop christian his school michael played up a couple of years 16 uw wba which is a that's a that's a cutthroat event for a 14 year old to play in and he had a 563 on base in that event and if you're on a team like the east cobb astros and they make a spot for you two years older you could play no doubt into your points that those tournaments when you get to the end of those tournaments it's heated gets a little emotional are you tired right coach is tired you're running out of pitching you hope you get a fresh arm back who pitched early in the event you got guys like jeremy brown making you nervous with their scouting just bearing down that red head behind the back stop staring you down in and out of the catcher's mitt eustrom has that one slip away but to have that opportunity and be an all tournament member he he went to the 14u national showcase jeremy talking about mullen x ran a 676 through 90 from the outfield had an exit velocity of 88 miles an hour we talked about with modulo playing up mullanex played up exclusively this summer for the east god program and he performed he was a leadoff hitter and switch hit really good bat to ball skills we saw the defense already with that play going into the left field corner and you look at all the other tools the speed the arm strength and he's a he's a name that college programs already have circled know that they need to be on him and he's gonna he's a type that you can build a recruiting class around five runs in here in the top of the fourth inning mike darren and jeremy with danny down below perfect game select festival high fly ball left field otaris murray's not enjoying the sun but he is there to put that one away for the third out of the inning seven two are score a five spot on the board for the e squad when they call for your athleticism on the field where does it belong well if you're a player like this award winner it belongs everywhere especially behind home plate the very talented catcher the young man the pride of the greater chicagoland area standing next to the pride of oklahoma city presenting the five tool award for perfect game as junior spivey as he gives that award to zion rose congratulations and a big round of applause for zion rose out of chicago illinois jeremy brown zion rose special player folks know him for a reason yeah the obvious he just won the five tool player just won the five tool player award so he can hit he can hit for power he can run he can throw he can defend versatile really quick twitch lots of athleticism and he's a type of player that still continues to up the ante every time we see him a new picture every inning that's what makes things a lot of fun and so with this new picture this is a young man who play in the field a couple of times he's that kind of an athlete born in puerto rico and a right-handed pitcher this is christian rodriguez elect festival member last year on the team eagles baseball his travel team now is this a 90 plus arm we've seen him up to 90 one i believe this summer already you could flip a coin given any day whether you think he's going to be of an outfielder long term or a right-handed pitcher the arm strength stands out he made an excellent throw last year in the 13 you from right field now that armstrong has developed on the mound who is up to 89 tied the event record at the 14 new national showcase and added again obvious physical strength to his frame and he deals with the home run challenge champion miles goshen miles out of west hills california chaminade college prep seven homers in that final round to win it he wears a couple of sevens on his jersey usa prime his travel team he's been involved during his time as rodriguez pours in a quick 89 miles an hour miles has and a pretty cool thing it's called operation gratitude and it's email or pen to paper good slider and it's letters to soldiers those that just might be in need of communication miles has taken on that volunteer work rewarding he's dealing with nothing very fun two electric pitches to start things and he got tired of waiting 89 on the first fastball there from rodriguez follows it up with a slider and now goshen's at the plate you don't know what to expect is he going to throw a change up just to show you everything is he going to try to elevate a fastball is even go back to the slider rodriguez it's a really quick arm too so you got to believe that fastball gets on you i think that's change up gentlemen hold it didn't he pulled it just a little that changed it bye great right on right the breaking ball is hard i mean the wrecking ball is hard a little pump of the fist campbell smithwick saying give me your best shot and he does sinking heavy fastball 88 strike three that's just not a fun at bat no you know that's big time downhill too right you just don't see a lot of look look this one's got a great target down there you just don't see guys get on top of their fastballs like that really at a lot of ages and even if you do make contact with that it's not likely to get past a pitcher's mound david hogg the second he's out of grand prairie texas but he's home in a sense because he's an oklahoma commit bandito's his travel team played at major league baseball's hank aaron invitational last year used to be called edi elite development invitational breakthrough series baseball up and above 90 now for this right arm oh my gosh the velocity keeps coming for rodriguez and today he looks like a dominant type arm but then you see his bp and it's like it's a dominant type bat spike got caught there it did he's not loving his change up thus far he's trying to throw it this is a type of fastball where you could get through a lineup at least once throwing just the fastball 89 miles an hour i'm loving the actions and i know runes you pointed it out of campbell smithwick behind the plate he is enjoying catching yep it has the advance you know that kind of new catching world go to a knee really create a low target off speed pitch roll to the right side bobbled out there at second base and manny maron unable to make the play so hogg is on speed that plays certainly or cepeda's out there i should say at second base unable to make that play just rushed a little bit that let that ground ball travel and then maybe rushed a little bit there at the end zach edwards is in the hole strike one at 89 miles an hour because we're talking about smithwick jared gooden one of our scouts sent me a text earlier this summer saying smithbook looks like a shortstop behind the plate just the way he receives how easy how loose everything is the hands he sticks it he can steal the strike but he can also present really well for an umpire which at this age is that's a world enjoyed our interview on the roster reveal show with this young man zach edwards first of all it was class through and through very proud to be from utah he'll hop up on the mound if you need him there he's at 375 in the classroom at riverton high school he's the youngest of five just a that's a great pick by you guys i know he can play too but a quality individual just one of those states you don't typically get the young talent they've produced talent throughout the years but at the early ages you don't always necessarily see from the non-traditional baseball state so to speak but already up to 88 on the mound has the right-handed power i think guys it's really just a state of late bloomers because you think about it i mean byu is good in all sports they have an excellent baseball program utah won the pac-12 in 2016. um yeah i just i think you just don't see a lot of the utah kids early on in their their athletic lives we need to get utahn on campus baseball stadium can you help me with that that's a good question that's their aaa ballpark is really nice though beautiful yeah oh it's beautiful the skyline in the background ruins beautiful throw waiting on top of the bed my goodness there he is again campbell smithwick soup of course his name is campbell they call him super beautiful throw and not an easy pitch to handle either guys that pitch is down down and away a bit but the hands just how quick the transfer is the arm strength has been a tool that stood out really amongst all our catchers so far and it's something we're going to continue to see bryce clavon stood in there to receive that throw like a guy that's really good at football like i'm not afraid of this contact bring it please there's a lot you can say about matthew champion he was the selection of you guys to talk about when we came on the air he's out of jay sarah catholic this is an asu commit mvp hustle his travel team jay sarah we talked about the trinity league earlier up to 89 with this fastball found nothing but barrel during the 14 new national a real two-way type prospect and again we kind of we have newsroom with the defensive versatility now we have champion with the two-way versatility so let me give you some of the baseball playing schools in the trinity league you'll appreciate this as a so-called socal guy jaycera modern day orange lutheran santa margherita survey st john bosco i mean you better bring it just deep deep deep as that one is outside garrett cole is oh lou correct yep he is those are the we always hear those schools whenever you hear socal with a player somewhere in our one of our all-american games it always seems they're tied to one of those schools inevitably no doubt back up h i really liked your scouting report on matt champion when i asked you about him i think i you said quote unquote he's really good at everything yeah it's true hopefully he proves me right here but he's just a fun player to watch off speed up in the zone champion and in between swing and he rolls that one and in time for the out seven two is our score the e squad on top g four and so much protection certainly and a great partnership with a g form the unstoppable award in representing g form it's nick surface and he gives that award to the talented young man on the west squad congratulations the unstoppable award to theo gillen a big round of applause for theo gillen the unstoppable award and you look good too nick love it the signs are up smyrna southpaw ryan gold love it love it love it that's strong that's what make this event fun there's no doubt on to the fifth inning we go ishaan kambal another one of our favorites you and i got a chance to interview him and enjoy who he is as a young man as he takes the baseball and goes to work now ishaan is a first generation american he's of indian descent his dad played a ton of cricket and played it well awesome played it at a very high level played at the college level trotsky nationals his talent team nilesh and sonali his family those are his parents and annika is the seven-year-old younger sibling but ishaan khan ball an honor student and he goes to work on the mound what will we see so west coast type kid nor cal didn't travel a whole bunch this summer played in a couple arizona events early on then he comes to the 14 new national showcase and there he sits 84 86 touches 87 pounded the strike zone the breaking ball is what stands out it's a short tight pitch tunnels it very well and he's the type of body and arm that you know is going to throw harder of course he's only 14 and that's easy to say but he's nowhere close to reaching his physical potential nor his potential on the mound let's find danny wexleman with a note down below danny yeah so you guys mentioned how he's playing baseball first generation american his dad took him to a giants game at six years old he told me he fell in love he throws a fastball curveball that's his favorite slider changeup and he told me that he wants to be a role model for indian athletes we talked about how we don't see many in the game of baseball and he wants to be that role model good stuff danny and this is a good young man we're excited to get to see him work we enjoyed our interview certainly a little abbreviated wind up for him here looks like he's coming stretch then he does his side step 85 on the first fastball goes right back to work pours that one over at 86. this is what i think of when i think of a west coast right hander just a very low maintenance smooth low effort mechanics and pounds the strike zone look it's not always tried and true but it is funny about certain approaches of like west coast left-handed hitters or west coast right-handed pitchers again it's not every single time but there is a way about baseball out west yep and i mean all the way to the coast no doubt no doubt about it line drive middle of the diamond and into center field gold with a base hit one of the prettier approaches we've seen in this game ryan gold who we saw the sign earlier celebrating ryan gold out of smyrna thanks for that smyrna travel team the last two events he's been an outstanding pitcher but he's also nine of his last 14 in his last two travel events he's really living up to the evan white comp right there that's a good piece of hitting working back up the middle uh i think the sign over there said ryan is solid gold and a strong sign game right andy backs it up pops in and out of the catcher's mint there new stream still back behind the plate the arizonan angel cepeda at one of my favorite lines in the questionnaires and we ask these young men just to be themselves bronx bombers one of his travel teams he's out of union in city new jersey and it said tell us something we might not know about you and share something about yourself he said i'd like to eat meat a lot of meat any kind of meat sounds like a growing young boy doesn't it that's well burger give me a steak i second that notion if you're gonna give me a piece of fish give me two that's awesome i just thought you'd enjoy that that's a very real answer very new jersey and i appreciate that very much so he performed he really truly did at the national showcase the 14u national 89 from the outfield one on the infield jeremy and through 85. yeah and that was his first event of the summer that we got to see him played in some regional stuff but on the national circuit that was his first time he had one line drive in game that got no higher than the shortstop's waist and it found its way to the left left center field fence kind of really speaking to the juice in his bat so anthony trelongo the mvp of last year's game he's a non-committed athlete one of the schools he dreams of just one there's many and i'm sure he's hearing from them duke and you can feel duke on that a decade ago vanderbilt launch pad yup follow me there yeah it's a good you know vandy very much is the model for duke i think it's a great analogy power conference elite academic school great coaching staffs but it's becoming a cool school to go to now you've got to earn your way in like vandy you can't come trotting and sending out your letter with a you know 1.98 and expecting duke or vandy to line up and help you get in that's a good point so you got to take care of your business in the classroom but i mean jeremy correct me if i'm wrong it's hard to find any lead baseball player now at any level that's you know just kind of sloughs it off at school they may have their challenges we all do that one got him in the backside yeah they they recognize one each go hand in hand what for long-term success they have these big dreams of colleges and to get in you need to have the grades and take care of your work off the field just as much as on the field well and i think if you're recruiting a kid a kid that's an elite student that tells you something about their work ethic hopefully the aptitude they're going to have and this year we they passed a rule in college baseball where now you can quote unquote stack aid meaning with 11.7 scholarships for baseball and you know if a kid's a great student now they're allowing schools to give someone some academic money and baseball money at the same time boy this is a big opportunity for you zion rose dealing with the talented right-hander out of california ishaan kambal hit on the ground out toward third sneaks on by gets by purify a run will score rose with an infield hit and an rbi and it's eight to two that's a ball that had waldrop not gotten to it just in the hole to knock it down and keep it in the dirt could have potentially played it another run waldrop was behind david hogg my apologies david hogg the second out there at third base jeff lugi with a chance to go to work now are you ready for the most notable person from mechanicsburg pennsylvania i've been waiting it's jeff lugie first of all yes number one brett michaels of the band poison that's a very good one shawn abner big leaguer oh big leaguer first pitch change up there and with all due respect to sean abner who would you rather have a beverage with that's right yeah brett michaels clearly has had the best career to date of the of that grouping yeah have a little fun tell some stories yeah i i love baseball stories with apnea there's no doubt yep and separated takes his lead off a third that one is high and away two-and-oh the count well you look ahead to the future right and you think about kambal and who he will become and you understand what he has done to earn his way here with the talent and you just look at that length i mean you just look at how he's not even close to being done growing and how extension will be an important part of it he's a mind to pitcher too he's so so intelligent having a tough day today thus far but boy you can just project so many good things definitely between that the arm speed we've only seen one breaking ball he threw it hard up to 78 maybe that's something he goes to here kind of like we saw at the opening to get back into your comfort zone that's ball four up and away it's interesting too you're exactly right and sometimes just having the courage to do it you know you're you're struggling finding that strike zone and you you tell yourself okay do i want to go to a secondary pitch when that may be the best thing for you runes that may be the best thing to go to that secondary pitch hang over the rubber a little bit more get back in sync yeah and it's you know of course very easy for us to say go one pitch at a time and um you know when you're on the field and arguably the biggest game of your life the emotions can kind of spiral on you and i think that's a great part of an event like this is learning to kind of just take a deep breath and get yourself the next pitch because to your point guys combo that that arm works the mechanics are repeatable i think he's going to be a tremendous strike thrower in his career junior spivey gave him a chance to catch his breath cameron davis takes the bat and goes to work we got a chance you and i to meet cameron and get to know who he is he was on our roster reveal show enjoyed it really really good in the classroom doherty high school in albany georgia as he swings through that one earning the smartest male award earning his highest math milestone in the classroom game on black his travel team all that in the classroom as we talked about earlier excel's on the football field and the diamond right there up between the one and the six and there's a lot of strength there where that didn't hurt so bad so another run will cross the plate and antonio anderson will take his chances at this age one of the more seen travel ball players an athlete that has played a bunch in front of guys like jeremy and has played a bunch of pg events fortunate mom and dad have helped to make that happen it helps that you're from georgia where so much travel ball is played but anderson pops that one foul up and out of play that's fascinating what you said jeremy about him being a legit left-handed hitter because so many to your point earlier so many switch hitters they really don't you know it's they they often start out right-handed significantly better than left-handed and then you're going to get more left-handed at bats and eventually the left-handed swing over takes the right-handed swing but you can tell he's very comfortable left-handed most of your reps are going to come from the left side at just by pure match-up so maybe that helps kind of expedite the process if you stick with it but yeah you you usually get the right-handed go left-handed try left-handed anyway go back to right-handed if you can't do it but for anderson his left-handed swing's just as pretty as his right-handed swing so does that mean for switch hitters you need two g-form elbow guards or is the elbow guard switchable those are switchable all right interchangeable thinking they had got the switch hitters in mind when they uh made the product smart family friendly i like it hot shot base head right field for the non-committed athlete one run will score and they'll throw up the stops on an aggressive turn out there at second draws a back throw antonio anderson with a single in an rbi junior spivey makes his way out to the mound and comball just to protect the arm and the young man the athlete make sure everything is done safely enjoyed getting to know him on the reveal show enjoying to watch his future tough day this afternoon there will be so many bright days in the future as he gives wait and looks out to the mound we'll introduce you to blake larson in just a moment the perfect game all-american classic yesterday alex mooney was a story certainly and he was all sorts of fun the most valuable player in this game the top players in the nation harry ford with the lone home run in the game folks joey gallo homing in the all-american classic and now a guy like harry ford has joined that very short group the west squad is big mr debeck max de beck perfect game all-american classic by the way that will be available on perfect game dot tv in the archives later on this week you can watch the runes over and over again and let me remind you on mlb network radio tomorrow night if you like to take in the game audio style and most of you classic baseball fans do as sunday night baseball comes to an end on mlb network radio the audio call of the perfect game all-american classic and uh you were a part of our broadcast team yeah myself and the great alex friedman who is the oklahoma city dodgers play-by-play guy he was outstanding super fun um yeah it's been that was really fun nothing like baseball radio sut you guys did great they're putting that together for airing on sunday and by the way long term long term that'll be available via podcast you you folks will be able to relive the perfect game all-american classic video later on in the week we'll have it ready for you come watch it on perfect game dot tv and then the audio we should have that able to share with you uh early in the week go find it the perfect game all-american classic let's take a moment and tell you about des moines iowa native out of southeast polk high school break blake larson we'll see if he pitches the next thing as well or if this is his inning place for the aisle with sticks and this is a good all-around athlete really good athlete really projectable athlete how so he's just look at him physically there's again nothing to him physically if he turns sideways you're going to lose him but that doesn't detract from him as you can see the arm speed here ruins up to 87 first pitch right there the best we'd ever seen him was 86 that was at the national showcase i talked to him yesterday said hey have you ever thrown 86 prior to the national and no so he's still coming into his own and seems to be getting better stronger every time we see him yeah that's that's a quick arm for a kid that you know to your point is going to really fill out and get much much stronger six one one forty so there's not a ton of mass behind it speaking to just how fast the arm really is oh it's a great time for iowa baseball think about you know ian mahler in the all-american classic i mean could be a first round pick as a high school iowa high school athlete and university iowa's on a really nice run in baseball levi usher who's at louisville he's got a chance to be a high pick blake larson here and we'll see sean gamble in the 13 you game tomorrow another young iowa iowa native haven't seen these kind of athletes since ole miss assistant coach mike clement was back in the marshalltown high die days over the inside corner a strike good sink to that one 85 miles an hour beautiful complex just outside of cedar rapids prospect meadows and some great baseball going on one of the jewels of the midwest i mean talk about fields in plural of dreams prospect meadows as a matter of fact as the walk is earned that time larson has had some good luck at prospect meadows not too far from where he is maybe that's a part of the the growing success of iowa baseball you put a beautiful facility in which to play and grow your game and that helps obviously the home state of perfect game as well 3-2 breaking ball there base is loaded left on left why not try it you got the fastball show it all and talking with larson yesterday came to the national showcase i said after that how how often was your phone ringing with college coaches and it says it's been almost non-stop a lot of schools trying to get in on the young left-hander out of iowa daniel cuvee now with the bases still full 12-2 is to score swaying in a mess hat flies off baseball goes into the catcher's mitt 12 to two now but with back-to-back five-run innings the west offense is just as capable of putting up a crooked number every inning from here on out so swings right through that one opens up that lower shoulder just a bit this is the fun stuff larson just filling it up and cuvee taking his best swing we'll see mr walcott throw because of this change well cole will throw in the eighth inning which will be a nice opportunity for him the ball's jumping out of larson's hand right now there's some life to it he's got a little bit of a couple of flying parts to his delivery but again the athleticism to be able to be on time with the release point get the ball out front and fill up the strike zone it's an impressive young arm that it's only going to get better every at the more we see him kind of your old fashioned lefty where there's a little bit of cut to that fastball can't throw the ball straight and that's a good thing wraps that bad over his helmet smithwick takes a strike over the outside corner campbell who has been really fun to watch catch when after the first pitch was retired his last time up with a screaming line drive out to center field son of jessica and austin and a 4.7 student in the classroom and he takes high left-handed hitting catchers you love them runes don't you oh my gosh that is good parenting left-handed hitting catcher tell you what it's well done bravo and you just talked about mike clement he's a young ole miss commit and from your recruiting days getting a catcher early in the process has to be a huge load off the shoulders in terms of trying to construct a class because you need them you you don't they just don't grow on trees you need to get the backstop yeah and there's no worse feeling in coaching than feel like you're unprepared at catcher or don't lack depth at catcher the only challenge is when you commit campbell smithwick and then you watch him get too good right for college baseball and end up being a draft pick but and that happened with hayden dunhurst luckily he got there and we saw what he did freshman year but that was the type of skill set that could very well have not arrived at ole miss yep i love the workmen approach by the way the towel hanging out of the back pocket you know if the hands get a little circle he's a catcher so you know things get a little you know messy down there you got that towel hanging out of his back pocket that's a kind of something you'd see more from a bowler than a catcher no it's awesome smithwick the hitter that red jersey i guess you'd call that pocket right that is possessing the towel there it is saying hello to us that's not a that's not an inside out pocket folks no that's his work towel love it why are catchers the best why are they just the best i mean that's a simple-minded question i know there's just especially at this age if you've taken to this position at this age you're just a little bit unique and different i i just think you can't hide at that position every pitch involves you it's brutal work like every day they practice balls ricocheting off their bodies that's an everyday practice thing they have to have great arm strength they have to be able to receive the ball they have to be able to interact with umpires without losing their temper there's a lot on their plate two of the brethren side by side here one with a work towel in his pocket campbell smithwick and chris newstrom catching the arizonan behind the plate and if i'm a coach who recruits one of these athletes i'm hoping he stays behind the plate little roller out towards short flip turn double play waldrop started emerson turned it who by the way can catch as we've talked about goshen was on the far end of that one a lot of offense 12-2 the east squad on top of the west 12-2 there is nothing finer in the field than putting a rawlings on that hand and going to work and there is no more a finer in the field in our rawlings defensive player of the year at the 14u age group presenting our rawlings defensive player of the year long time successful player and manager clint hertl we welcome him he presents that award to cade rmb day cade congratulations and a big round of applause for cade rmbd look at that as it catches media shifting gears too and a classic look there ah good stuff very good stuff oh that is beautiful i think danny wexleman may have a quick chat with kate i know that you've been working tirelessly on your offense i know that you hit a basis clearing triple but you pride yourself on your defense yes how exciting is it to earn this award it's very exciting i'm very thankful i've made a butt head mistake over there in the first inning but look past it just try to do my best and help my pitchers as best i can so we have dragon standing next to you future all-star catcher here who's been with us all weekend what did it take to get to this point in your career so far to earn this a lot of hard work every every week just grinding trying to be the best i can kade congratulations thank you thank you darren outstanding stuff danny very good job oh we love the hero that dragon is too representing toby key's okay kids corral and the battles that dragon has won inspiring all of us as we move along to the bottom half of ending number five we'll take a brief break with those awards but mid-sixth we'll tell you about the offensive player of the year mid-seventh we'll have the pitcher of the year and mid 8th will have the player of the year and certainly excited to reward these athletes that have worked so very hard right-hander ready to roll eduardo fernandez eduardo fernandez miami christian he's from miami ohio the florida aces his travel team loves his marlins he's a marlins fan 305 aces elite miami christian from miami florida he's actually committed committed a couple days ago guess where he's committed i'm gonna go with uh miami yes okay so a brand new commit that's outstanding i have to change that uh right there when we get a chance a brand new commit a little bit of breaking news thank you jeremy i'm told we may have a commit a little bit later on in the game really brand new yeah fresh fresh with the one coming up but norberto lopez getting it done in miami getting the commitment before he gets on tv okay and uh with eddie here we we've saw him last year at the 13u but now he's a different pitcher the velocity's climbed the slider's a legitimate swing and miss pitch and he came to the 14 new national showcase kind of similar to jansen kenti if you blinked you were going to miss his outing it was a lot of strikes a lot of swing and miss and he does it with a sense of ease and a projectable uh sorry a strong body frame durable the type that you know you can give a ball to and he's just gonna run it deep into an outing excited to watch him pitch brand new miami commit big eddie eduardo fernandez merta is mom jose his dad and he deals with parker pico be pitcher parker pico at the 13u world series and he just got hit in the helmet with a slider he's all right another first pitch slider start with ridge morgan see it with eddie fernandez here that's not bailing out right there it's moving on in but obp andy's okay showing the toughness we expect out of a michigander probably plays hockey maybe street hockey for sure derek curiel has been running all over the field being an athlete in this game struck out in his first at-bat has done a nice job in the outfield one called upon defensively swinging a miss good breaking ball downward tilt that's just a short late break shadows are going to start having a factor here too as they kind of creep over the stadium top little roller only plays at first good play take the out move on with your inning and that's not any old out he just collected curiel is not an easy man to retire no intriguing player colt emerson you guys had me more intrigued in the research i did brother brandy's a student at ohio state gold medal winner by the way this young man usa national team in taiwan in 2017 the 12u national team and this is in colt everest in a varsity football players freshman year team elite his travel team two really good defensive plays in this game got to that ball in the 5 6 hole and then the back side of that double play what do you think about this class right and i'm going to miss names but just guys that have popped into my head and watching them play in the infield emerson who you guys tell me is a better catcher south the scene who's out of the west side of the world sorry about that that's what they say about emerson we're seeing this here and we don't want to detract from what he's what he's shown in the infield is all in love yeah as a matter of fact could we not use that c word when it comes to colt emerson again let's you know where i stand with that i'm just blown away with the purity of the position you know there are a lot of young men that will work with coaches and at times ruins forgive me it because it's it's hard work but you can become a bit robotic as a position player wherever you may play that is not the case with like guys like this or guys like south has seen they were meant to play in the middle of the infield no doubt and emerson and south the scene their styles in the middle infield are polar options sure but still both great players waits as long as he could on a sinking fastball at 85 miles an hour emerson committed to auburn and they've got a really good short stop right now on ryan bliss we were wondering if he could handle shortstop when will holland was drafted through 18 games bliss zero errors and hit 380. yeah and bliss he was one we were able to identify at an early age defensively like who's who's that you see one ground ball and you're locked in on him for the rest of a tournament and then he kind of adds some strength and the physicality takes off and then the offense jumps off and now he's a starting sec shortstop mike and i get a chance and you want to find us it debuts every tuesday night at 10 o'clock eastern it's perfect game college baseball on espnu on siriusxm and the reasons mike is here is his knowledge and passion for the game of college baseball his relationships and the recruiting angle of this event breaking ball it's fouled off and we'll do it again just an interesting and challenging year for all college coaches no matter your rank on a coaching staff head coach all the way down to volunteer assistant a year when they couldn't do much of anything besides put together great zoom calls yeah you go from spending so much time with these players and such an important time in their lives to just being absent really tough you and i talk to him every week every week we have two or three coaches that we talked to boy he stayed back nicely on that breaking ball and he earned that base hit good piece of hitting there yeah again the exit velocity is 71 i'm glad that dropped down because it was about the approach it was about i'm waiting i'm waiting i'm waiting i'm going he didn't leak out front and he earned himself a hit because of it yeah i am all in on colt emerson i mean just his feel for the game of baseball is really advanced dropped in front of ziggler out there brennan ziegler in left field theodore teddy gillan that pitch is high runners on first and third now want to know the count so you talked about recruiting being different this year in terms of just 2020 not being able to get out on the out on the road but ruins when you were at asu you weren't looking at freshmen rising rising freshman eighth graders just yet were you no i mean you would know if there was a a really stud freshman in your backyard so you'd know about chris neustrom yeah when you were there but you're super you were laser focused on the rising seniors you know that's really where the commitments were happening you wouldn't have as many commitments in the all-american game as we do virtually everybody's committed yeah back then you went to the area code games and you were that's where you were signing players wow and now mike wow i mean it's it's flipped so much it's even when i started you i was my very first ever perfect game tournament just doing the ipad behind the plate you jamai jones was a player just turned 15 15 uwwba and college coaches weren't even going over watching 15u yet brendan rodgers was there as well and you start thinking now how it is and 15 new events are packed 14 new events the the broad the broadcast of who's watching this game right now it's just everything's changed it's expedited the process and now we're seeing how that's working though seeing the young commits get onto campus and watching seeing who who got got them right so back to nh you would go to pg national as like kind of your kickoff to recruiting that class now it's like you know pg national they're locked and loaded now they're watching them to make sure to see how they are and kind of just keep tabs on them before the pro scouts get on them those are some great names you just dropped right there seeing as as a young man as you saw him just kind of my first experience yeah jamai's in the big leagues now he got the call off the uh what did they call the taxi squad he was over in long beach at blair field and roger just played it's just it's fun this is this is the where i find the most fun the 13u14u as you mentioned now some of the selectfest alum have been drafted they're in pro ball now robert hassell mick able nick bitsco all went in the first round this past year jackson miller in the second with blaise jordan and the names are just going to keep coming we had what five or six picks this year next year you can almost guarantee it's going to be more and it's going to be a number that's going to continue to grow couple of free agent signees the year before at that that tally of the first select festival is seven players in professional baseball h it feels like this game just started you and i got together and we were able to to get it cranking out our good friend dimitri young by the way brand new high school coach congratulations to dimitri the hook so he would join us and we have maurice hampton from that first game who's playing both football national champion at lsu and getting time as a true freshman prior at uh in the lsu outfield he can drop some names his age can yes it's impressive i mean that is impressive right there i think the thing is guys not every 14 year old is projectable like that you know we all develop at different paces but some of these kids you don't have to be a rocket scientist to look at rafi velazquez and said oh yeah like he projects to play division one baseball i mean it's some of these kids are just so advanced it's really mind-boggling definitely there's tools here that are almost plug and play at the d1 level now if you put them in an out in a lineup you wouldn't think anything of them being a 14 year old 15 year old kid back to the screen it goes we'll do it again two balls and two strikes so the arm strength was on display for velasquez during his three innings and one of his last swings of bp today went out over the 377 foot marker in right center field like that's type of power you just don't find at as you said the 25u level that's right i'm i've got you covered on the 25u level 2-2 ian on the hands good pitch tied him up at 87 miles an hour the thing this summer that really stood out for velasquez is he has that power but his ability to drive the ball the opposite field the barrel stays through the zone stays in it a long time and he stays through the baseball while most he can impact the ball ver as hard as others can pull the ball he's doing it to the opposite field and that type of barrel strength and hand strength is just something that really stands out got a big hole in the right side of the infield if he puts it on the ground that way blocked up out front of home plate and when i think of long beach huntington beach cal that part of socal this is the velasquez is who i'm thinking about the kids that just they they have a great time playing they play with great pace their their skill level is very advanced i first look i got at velasquez this week was him taking ground balls at shortstop but i thought that was his primary position how about that breaking ball served as a changeup as well that one really died at home plate 76 miles an hour and good tight spin to it right on left real equalizer just three two bases loaded why not love it boy that's a beautiful pitch ralphie just gives a smirk and has to walk three two breaking ball and an 0-0 breaking ball for strike one brennan zigler farragut high school knoxville tennessee good in the classroom an honor roll student a 3-9 student in ziggler mvp of the 14-u wba 11 times he's been an all-tournament performer at pg events 11 times we talked about all the powerhouse socal teams farragut we saw ryan hagenow in the all-american game just last year and he's a tight he's a player actually that i picked when we did our impact for incoming freshman i picked him as one at kentucky that really could just be in the rotation right away yeah thanks for the pitch ability the stuff and now you got siegler kind of following his tail and hopefully making following his footsteps i believe nick senzel is a very good high player breaking ball popped foul by the way i know many of you are curious marshalltown iowa high school the fighting bobcats runes just spent a happening looking that up but that's the content we crave that's right i'm here for the audience fastball spoils it just look at how quick the hands are from siegler he can see the ball deep and his hands are so quick he can get the barrel through the zone and still impact the ball to whichever part of the field i also think there's a confidence level there some kids just know they can hit and zigler definitely gives you that vibe he's in there to do damage he played for exposure throughout the summer and they made the tour of the east coast down in florida and georgia in hoover and we have all our scouts stationed all over the country just covering all of our events at all levels and knowing that i do cover the 14 new level you get texas throughout the events and every time siegler was there would be a different person one of our scouts text me hey siegler can really hit hey i love siegler hey siegler can really hit love it and then i got to see him for the first time in hoover where he won mvp at the 14 uwba and i felt like i needed to reciprocate and text everybody back saying i'm all into i love it rushed off and left that one behind the arm just laid in getting there so many little things you notice in games like this for fernandez you know in a real pickle here but has not changed his expression just as pitched with great poise now we'll see if he gets out of it but love the composure bouncing ball middle of the diamond tracking to the bag and that will do it he did show the composure he did get out of the mess and certainly threw a few more pitches that he wanted to in this 12-2 game end of five perfect game 14 news select festival back to oklahoma city in a moment they say someone always has it worse than you but when your child's diagnosed with cancer you know that can't be true you know you're starting a journey that's harder than anything you've ever faced but it's nothing compared to what your little one is going through [Music] so you buck up and you fight it's devastating i mean it's it's i mean you can't you can't prepare yourself driving two and a half hours you don't think they're gonna make it i was scared to go home but they can't keep you in the hospital just because you're not ready to go home but we have this place we have the okay kids grow out for that it's nice for ashland to be able to come here and have a room to play in that's clean and know that i don't have to worry about her getting sick or be able to go outside and not have to worry about something happening to her because the equipment's safe in our darkest hour we met people who were thinking of us somebody who thought about our kids we met those people at ok kids corral it's a place to quiet your mind and strengthen your resolve the crowd gave us peace of mind the crowd gave us relief the crowd gave us time to be a family to have a home away from home near the hospital that's cost free to us it's hard to explain how much that helps us fight this battle because we're not alone you'll never know this side of heaven what you've done for us 14 new perfect game select baseball festival the right-hander warming on the mound getting ready to take his opportunity moving all pitchers up in inning this is matthew champion tying into the pg select festival and the pg cares foundation congratulations to all of these athletes we just saw the toby keith's ok corral the beneficiary of it raising 81 000 37 000 for the west for the east 43 jack frankel and andre maduro and anthony trelongo parker pico really all of the athletes no matter your ability to raise there's the legend red solo cup has to be one on down and mr champion goes to work matthew champion jay sarah catholic asu commit honor roll student up to 89 at the 14u national showcase he deals with jackson walker who's singled champion here throwing to one of his buddies chris newstrom both asu commits got jackson walker uga commit again just really talking about how quickly and how fast this whole recruiting process has jumped up on us well i think matt champion's the perfect example that jeremy where it's you know it you don't have to be a baseball person look at matt champion and say oh yes i would like to invest in that that he is so gifted athletically 88 right there with his fastball to pick up a strikeout he's got his asu net gator on he's proud to have committed there and and they got him out of california which is a hotbed of big college recruit college programs too so that in itself has to be a win for the sun devil's staff no doubt and i'll tell you guys the pac-12 in baseball there's a real it's always been a great league but there's a real resurgence happening in that league right now no balls in one strike to count a breaking ball dumped in there feel terrible for you know all the kids that missed their 2020 season but i think about arizona state where they had a team that could have won the national championship how about that breaking ball by the way two in a row back to back i mean jaw-dropping breaking balls ready for it fastball in her hands quick hand strong hands to fight that one off and earn a base hit boy what a what a great approach right there just fighting through the zone and a base hit for christian rodriguez saw him on the mound power arm you get to see the strength in his hands there and currently uncommitted somebody who's on the radar already ranked pretty good by us in the 2023 class younger for the great so he's able to play in 14u and with champion that was a two-way battle right there between champion and rodriguez champions got more polished than you might think with a two-way in terms of already showing three pitches for strikes showing refined mechanics a fast arm but nothing's taken away by his abilities of watching or refining in the box as well how about this matchup champion versus clayvon one and one the count 87 miles an hour you have to think that champion's going to go with that breaking ball here so it's a great chance to evaluate his secondaries and event evaluate bryce clavon and his how does he handle spin he saw the spin it's on the ground they get one that's all they'll get for sure price is a tough one to double up with that six six speed yeah i think that's going to happen never in his life actually so clayvon is on in front of andre meduno as electric avenue walks him into the batter's box he doesn't know how lucky he is i cannot remember who sang that song sorry andre i'm supposed to focus on you vito and sandra are mom and dad of andre he's part of a great volunteering effort peace for pause involving animal rescue that's awesome there's a lot of jordan walker on here for another duke committee who is a first rounder i could call by you that's eddie grant by the way electric avenue well done thank you jeremy that was before my time so i had to google it we didn't need that part h come on now quick throw pretty throw but it kicks away gets by goshen showing some football there to get through goshen yeah he just ran right through him to get going umpire noticed it was gonna award him the bag anyway good throw there from newsroom two on the back literally on the bag it hit the bag right where you need it still on goshen you're gonna have to really deliver a better hit if you're going to keep me from getting to third base breaking ball is a strike a little bit more on meduna let's bring in danny wexleman danny yeah andre told me earlier this week listen it was a no days off approach to ensure he would make the 14 you select festival you mentioned his brother john who came home he trained with him but hey we got to mention mom because mom burns sage before every game giving him positive energy thank you danny i like it love it good stuff d wex great job today again she's your co-host a lot on that college show yes awesome we're lucky to have her what a great talent out towards short fielding firing and then time for the out that is parker pico don't go anywhere we're gonna give away a little bit more hardware 12-2 the score great partnership with amazing technology evolve your game through diamond kinetics representing diamond kinetics is jared goodwin on behalf of perfect game our diamond kinetics offensive player of the year is brendan ziegler and a big round of applause for brendan ziegler and who he has been as a hitter not only that but he's outstanding in the classroom just about a four point on honor roll student 11 times all tournament at perfect game events mr zigler and who he is as a player dk offensive player of the year h now that's that's not too much of a shock there we talked about what he's able to do with the bad how often he's produced and he's one that as the body fills out you you have to believe the run tool is going to only quicken the power is going to come and in the outfields he already stands out the bat is the calling card right now but he's got a bright future ahead of him and i've heard you guys mentioned that he was mvp of no less than 17 different events so successful clues yes well we've seen antonio anderson just about all over the base pads we've seen him work defensively but antonio anderson the east cobb astros you see shortstop by trade but pitcher an extra infielder as well so antonio goes to work who is he as a pitcher jeremy it's kind of just a continuation of what he is as a shortstop as a bat and that it's refined it's smooth it's methodical but yet it still stands out he's going to be mid 80s he's got a feel he fills the strike zone and similar to champion where he may not focus all of his attention there but if you didn't know that you would think he did you know i think in college-based where we have 11.7 scholarships for a 35-man team when you can have a player of this talent level that can do both i mean think about the impact brendan mckay made for louisville and it's easy to throw out oh he's a two-way but the st what goes on behind the scenes having to do your in-field work having to run your polls as a pitcher having to do bp you have to do twice as much work but when it works out then you're happy to have it and the player gets to excel in many facets no doubt because being a one-way player is hard george wolco will pitch in this game good low target behind home plate and it is dotted by anderson anderson dealing with campbell smithwick back there behind the plate he's coming out of his hand firm right there 88 miles per hour downhill his room talked about earlier hitting his spots smith look behind the plate doing a good job receiving them spins off that one gets the sink that he wanted volkl's one bet that you can dream on him for days he's six six he's versatile we've seen him play first base third base outfield and we'll see him pitch later this game how about that change up swinging missed change up right there again he's a two-way throwing a change up like that up to 88 still 14 you eligible it's just a tough pitch to hit yeah that's that's a really good pitch tie south the scene now athlete meet athlete in this matchup inner half 88 in easy 88 how about that smithbook's getting really low behind the plate too anderson's just hitting the knees early on and hitting his target more impressively south the scene hugs the line to the right side how about this h i give you this as we see anderson pitch who also plays in the field south of the scene recently was an mv pitcher oh yeah mv pitcher look we know him as a great shortstop at the 14u west select national championship went seven and struck out eight in his outings that's crazy and he does it having fun he he'll be low maybe touch mid 80s but he's gonna no pitch is gonna look the same he's gonna double pump leg lift he'll pause inhale quick pitch a little roller out towards short a little head first dive and the arm was flashed and fired across from short big old arm trello there he uh made a nice play with the footwork to come in to end the last inning and you see him here with the arm strength and gets tied by half a step or half a slide so we need south the scene not to do that anymore so he doesn't blow out his shoulder but the reason he did that the intent the how bad he wants it we don't need we want that to never change right that is 100 awesome that's junior spivey's going to tell them about that right now chris newstrom takes a strike 88 miles an hour just off the plate actually 1-0 the count pretty good pitch what's up back leg up swings right through that one just chris hiking you can do that a lot in arizona that's one of his favorite pastimes oh hi mcdowell mountains you can go hike camelback get a good workout in not now though probably not the best time of year to go hiking in arizona better get up early real early i'm really excited to see noostrom pitch as athletic as he is i think what i saw on video his arm tool might be his best talent that one is high two and two the count to neustrum um uh you pointed them out earlier i'm all in on campbell smithwick by the way side he is really fun behind the plate would love to pitch to a guy like this off speed that one is fouled off well nustro loves an arizonan now he's not a diamondback but a guy from arizona one of his guys that he loves to watch is cody bellinger high school product out of arizona favorite of a lot of kids around the nation i'm sure yep at ac is an interesting place if you're a high level travel ball player because of the way things work you may find yourself liking cody and then having him stop by your cage to hit yeah just happens a lot in the valley it's this it's kind of the baseball community in the the in phoenix it's got a little small town feel to it yes despite the fact that there is just an incredible volume of high-level players there and a lot of them make their home there in the off season and half of the game comes there for february and march but there have been stories as we've talked about before especially during quarantine where you know a place like where the dirt bags work out major leaguers have just known about it stopped by and hit for a couple of days and so if you're a young player you sit you watch you ask questions never forget way back in the day at arizona state you know pro guys would come in early for spring training and use our cages at times watching josh hamilton hit in a group with dustin bedroya ellsbury jacoby ellsberry and andre ethier and hamilton made the rest of them look like little league players that pitches low we've been talking a lot about campbell smithwick danny wexleman has a note i had to get in on the action guys so i talked to him earlier his dad austin is the one who got him into baseball he played at western carolina and guess what dad caught two and so i asked him what are you most proud of about your game and jeremy this is where you come in you called this he's most proud of his receiving game and stealing strikes him and dad go over all those fancy stack cast numbers that catchers make their money on and he's got him good stuff had an accidental on cam by d wex that was a voice of she deserved that on camera back there shooting across just great research today down in both dugouts these athletes love telling stories good mask discipline by d wex there too by the way well done bravo yeah when there isn't time the players handed a cleaned up microphone and in fact the mask goes on if not having fun through six the perfect game select festival 12-2 the score the e-squad on top chickasaw bricktown ballpark in beautiful oklahoma city we'll be back with more of the best 14 new players in the land this is the most important part of my game it's like your girlfriend like you take care of it you have to go glove and then you have planning platinum is the top defender of the league that you it stands out so you know that's my baby when i'm headed i'm by myself when i'm making defensive plays i'm helping my picture i can't go on sloppy on defense [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] beautiful oklahoma city this gorgeous ballpark and some of the best hosts we've ever been around in facility and in personality and in hospitality here in oklahoma city the host of the all-american classic the 14 and 13 you select festival and we get to know zach edwards we talked about him earlier the big man out of utah you and i enjoyed our conversation a confident young man now he gets a chance to pitch definitely he's um he's somebody who kind of exploded onto the scene we hadn't really known about him comes out arizona touches 88 as a 14u dominant performance over a really good travel program in one of the playoff games and just like that he becomes a known commodity college coaches know his name all it takes is that one outing and it's something he's built off of and now we got him here at the 14 you select and eduardo fernandez will take a swing at it his first hit bat of the game we saw him work on the mound you could say well why the shades well here's why the shades because where he stands there are shadows but where he looks there is bright sunshine out there in center field so the shades just fine for him good pitch in on the hands not an easy play on across the diamond he made it look easy and tough to get a good start running when it's right in on your knuckles gillen the shortstop out there yeah teddy gillan made that look really easy you're right so that was a tough play made easy what stands out even more for theo if if you didn't know or if you do know him he's only been playing shortstop for a couple years like that's really just refined footwork to be able to come in the arm strength has taken an immense leap since last fall and we know what he can do offensively so you're really looking at one of the more complete players already at the 14 new level pj morlando mississippi state commit singled in a run back in the fourth inning in this 12-2 game mississippi state one of the great atmospheres in college baseball i remember watching stanford play that super regional in starkville last year and it looked like a haunted house like that's how intimidating it looked they love their college baseball in that town south carolina native so the gamecocks are right there somewhere close to where pj lives but mississippi state is the one who got him for you when you went into another state within league near another team rather in conference what was that like to be able to pull out an impact type player yeah it was it's um i'd say it it's one of those things like i'll you know i think about pedro when you say that you know obviously he's a norcal kid and he really wasn't focused on stanford but cal was a program we recruited against and it's a big deal you know it's it's almost like you're announcing another area that you can because younger players in that area see that happen and then they start to consider your school it's not just a a player to commit it's an impact type player yeah it's you're almost creating a pipeline creating a roadway 89 there from edwards and and just to throw it out orlando's line drive out to left field was caught by colt emerson called the mercenary on the field in on the hands emerson will play it on a couple of hops and get it back in on x with a bass hit his third at bat he's impressive h he's good he's a type of uh player that you just let him go put him at the top of the lineup and just let him find barrels so valuable that experience playing kids older than you it brings out so many good qualities hit on a line grabbed out there brandon oliveira gets his opportunity to swing the bat the young man out of miami hialeah florida the miami commit rivera they got him that time you earn respect when you were given the starting knob in any pg national event and the same can be said for this young man he wears number nine on that east jersey and he has earned the respect by getting that start jansen kente is an alabama commit georgia jackets one of his travel teams out of noon in georgia and joined down there by the legend so many decades in the big leagues flash gordon a big round of applause for perfect games pitcher of the year jensen kente jansen i know you like to let your actions speak for you but what does this award mean to you it means a lot to me for giving this opportunity and show what i've done all year and blessed to get this award who are some of the people who helped you get to this place all my coaches my workout director and everybody my family jansen thank you congratulations thank you darren yeah good stuff what a humble young man i enjoyed watching him i enjoyed watching that left arm yeah i mean i really did very impressive it's unique because it's that confidence to throw from the left side age but to get you know not just that four-seam a battle to play fast but it's that heavy you hate it if you're a hitter a heavy left-handed sink especially at 14 you you're not entirely comfortable swinging wood so he's probably going to break more bats here just coming up that more so than most pitchers his age all right so what do we know about bryce clavon the pitcher we know what kind of an athlete he is and we've been talking about it all afternoon long it's deserved we know that he plays football very well too this is one of the more gifted athletes in the country in an oklahoma community but how about as a pitcher he's going to fill up the strike zone it's a short little arm action quick arm low 80s he's not going to blow you away with the fastball but he's going to he's going to mix speeds here and hopefully hit both corners and make a quick quick inning up for himself and pitching to zion rose who just threw an absolute frozen rope to second base so this is going to be a really fun battery i wasn't sure you saw that i was going to bring it on that was that was knee-high all the way down lightning bolt so clayvon ready to roll now and he deals with jiren purify purify made an early out last time and we didn't have as much of a chance to talk about the young man j purify jp they call him he gives a lot of credit to betty moore his mom and his life for how much he has met calls him the hero in his life out of detroit michigan little caesars and there is an illitch that runs that program carrying on the family name of thomas ilitch who's part of the ownership group for little caesars and the tigers organization also a travel ball dad and a travel ball program put together by mr ilitch little caesar's travel ball that's awesome i was trying to figure out when i saw the little caesars travel program listed on some of these kids that's really neat it's awesome and we'll see tomorrow jose perdomo's played from throughout the year throughout the summer and they're based mostly out of the midwest and they got some high-end talent do they have like a pizza based alternate jersey or what would you have to you got to right but they need to let's get on that you're not stopping at any other pizza restaurant after this that's well said that when is bob fowled off to the right side you're not opening yelp you're not looking for the best local pizza spot you're going to your local little caesars even when you're on the road no doubt anyway purify classy young man active in his school he's a university liggett basketball baseball two he will play at the varsity level a couple of years ago in 2018 part of the little league world series and he earns a walk and very active in his african-american presence as well in his school has been the leader of a couple of groups that have had impact and a group called black excellence black voices blacknificence that is all stuff that he has been a part of putting together at his school so kudos to that young man so far i mean far from just a baseball player well you picked a great school to continue that michigan is all of those things let me show you the font for purify obviously not him as digging in to swing the bat is burke mabias saw him hit right-handed uh earlier in the game get to see him hit left handed it's real power from both sides we're gonna get to see him catch coming up here and again he's gonna continue as zion unloads he's gonna continue with the arm strength once he gets behind the plate as well by the way jeremy same rules apply as when velasquez was catching when zion rose is catching its mandatory stealing so we can watch him throw he had no business throwing that ball to try to make it a close play and yet with the arm strength had it been a little lower you're getting a bang bang type play there it's awesome nba nevada the important details about burke one and one the count brookstown played chris played the minor leagues for quite some time was a pitcher nearly 400 minor league innings son's a catcher dad was a pitcher and they played college baseball one of my favorite little programs lewis clark state college in idaho dominating naia program ed chef the great ed chef hall of fame coach dad played for him that's who dad played for burke's dad that's on my bucket list is to go to the naia world series up in lewiston idaho it's amazing i pitched it in a long time ago in lewiston and i pitched the one or two years they moved away in iowa a big mistake they moved it back to lewiston it's tough to beat him there yeah but the atmosphere is unmatched it's it's it's mini it's mini omaha that's the best way to say it and dad played there please please get up there i gave up some runs in that event no way we need to erase that memory and rest reboot that's okay in a few years that story will change that's right beautiful fastball outside corner clavon as you said just filling up the strike zone that's all you're looking for his future is going to be in the dirt somewhere or maybe even center field but this just shows his ability to adjust grab an inning throw strikes and he's up to 83 ish right now with the fastball which again we're playing 14 new baseball i could barely adjust to throwing 60 feet six inches at 14 and they're throwing it with some velocity to it no doubt stay tuned i hear rumors we have a college commitment coming up ooh like a public right out in front of everyone everyone's gonna find out a college commitment can confirm you can't can confirm yep i'm going to say this about you and i'll throw you in the mix a little bit but i think h just kind of works that crowd pretty pretty well with his i think you've probably known about this commitment for years yeah h's hashtag in the know i mean when you see a young man make his choice and he makes sure that he tags h i mean that's what's right this is really fun watching clayvon pitch but watching him run the bases in this game that's something special that is he has the entire stadium's attention when he's on the basis now imagine him doing that with a football in his hands and running down the sidelines i can't imagine him not scoring on every play i i just i'm trying to picture him getting tackled and it's not computing for me everything's just a juke move yeah someone's hitting a button on madden and he's spinning right around that's exactly what i've pictured right now waves hit that breaking ball over the top of it murray just got to be just got a piece so he'll come back so one of the one of the things that makes of regarding this game guys that makes me so proud is that these kids could do anything they want and they're picking baseball right and they're playing other sports too which is awesome but when this level of athlete and these kids are incredible kids when they're picking baseball you know the sports in a good place all kinds of sleeves being rolled up on the field right now at that lead arm gun show is open for business got that back arm the trail arm the one two good pitch just off the plate that's awesome you you should have a little personality in the batter's box i couldn't agree more yeah like that should be part of the game it's just a comfort thing for him too it's not something he's just doing now he did it all throughout the summer and well and jeremy when you have big biceps sometimes the clothing gets in your way i do it every so often with the radar gun my radar but i need to make sure there's four layers of sunscreen on because i gotta stay out of the sun good call by you love it good good tan line we're going right now i like that radar gun biceps how about that you guys you scouts grade one another three two because the arm goes out you gotta have the strength and the buys and the tries and even the shoulder the traps that's awesome there's some long games with a lot of radar gun out front three and two the count the taurus definitely has me be in muscle though so okay fair boy some close close pitches mataras hustles down the line runners on first and second for the home run challenge winner miles goshen so he and his dad miles motorhead's just a little bit and they're working on an older car together they're building a piece by piece an older car but it's a hot rod and they're hoping to set for its class i'm not sure of all the details with regard to how many decades back the pieces date but they're looking to get it to 200 miles an hour and for its class and age set a land speed record wow good way to bond i mean obviously that's cool dad can do tea work and throw bp for you but not everyone in this generation with uh and heck i'm in another generation have no concept and understanding of of cars you don't hear it as much runes with the younger players i love hearing that yeah me too my dad taught me how to read the racing form is that set analogous yes math it was like i ended up being really good in math i don't know why that feels very northeast yeah it's very northeast high pop to the left side trickling into foul territory that one is put away a couple of steps into foul territory there jeff lugie is there and makes the play so luigi's at third correct h that's lucy over there lucy third zapata at second so is the rumor that maybe the third baseman may be making a decision here in a moment could be him he's uncommitted wow uncommitted right here though wow it's almost like those amazing property shows where the couple picks the show right after this they picked that that's great what we do have committed here is david hogg against bryce clavon yes yeah oklahoma commits battling in oklahoma i've enjoyed david hogg jeremy have you seen a lot of him yeah so he's he'll switch hit him bp and it's really good from both sides but then in game he'll just hit right-handed so it's a comfort thing maybe the left-handed still new for him but it's still a really good swing it's short it's loose it's compact but it's also powerful which those are all good elements for long-term success yes to all of those things you know two bach moved the runners up hog rolls it up the line and it slips right on by luchi big aggressive turn now we've got to play at the plate trying to leap over high i mean trying to get up way high over zion rose everybody's okay murray's okay rose is okay luchi gets picked up by his teammates we have to see this one more time then we'll have our commitment he got up there yeah laterus murray this is national high jump champion oh that's high wow a little behind the back flip by zion rose all right so we've got a commitment going on down there i think we're ready all right i'm with jeff lugie and this is one of my favorite parts of these events you've decided to commit to school with us here at the 14u select festival jeff where have you decided to go to school play baseball and get an incredible education duke university amazing congratulations and jeff how did you come to this decision yeah put that cap on proud how did you make this decision uh truly i just felt like i had a great relationship with the coaching staff i love the direction their program is going in and it's a great education nothing can go wrong i know that miss schroeder is your favorite teacher i know you pride yourself on your grades why is school so important to you really it's just what i what if baseball doesn't work out it's a second option and options that i want to pursue that's amazing jeff congratulations thank you darren all right mike rooney you get to break this down and talk a little bit about again the duke program and that commitment where they're headed well you know chris pollard has done an amazing job there josh jordan his recruiting coordinator is a guy we see constantly at the perfect game events and you know it's it's a program that had struggled in baseball for a long time they had not been to the ncaa tournament since 1961 got back to the tournament in 2016 and then in 18 and 19 they're in game three of super regionals you know out we talked about alex mooney the class all-american classic mvp is a duke commit and this does not surprise me they are recruiting at a very very high level that's fun h that's fun that's good stuff it was a great delivery from him he nailed it confident well spoken to he had been running around all over the field just moments before by the way because of you know a picture earlier not being able to get through an entire inning we see george wilco get a chance it's a nice surprise when you have a player that gets a chance to work that wasn't going to work and by the way wilco was supposed to be in right field and now south of scene is in right why not of course so he heads out here's george so runes you were talking about all these players who are so great at so many sports at the 14 new national first time seeing george i go up to him i just ask hey are you you play basketball right obviously he's six foot six he said are you any good he'll just he just kind of looked at me and smirked and said yes sir that's a great idea and then i kept asking kind of pursued a little bit and he rattles off how he averages like 20 points a game this that and the other and it's like you're more than just okay basketball that is awesome i love it andy just threw 88 on that last fastball there's a ton of length and a ton of leverage to take advantage of 86 and it gets a swing and a miss well i'm glad we snuck them in here because this is impressive and then you see this on the mound and you're like well there's your future and then you realize he's a left-handed bat with some of the easiest loft off the barrel that we've seen this weekend and south carolina's got to be happy to have him yeah like left-handed richie sexton hey by the way at the end of this inning perfect game will present the player of the year at the 14 you age group he can't throw it straight if he tries to no that's right under the swing right under the bat that one is fouled back to the screen working around the zone at 6 6 to just be able to be that coordinated that in sync with your delivery kind of speaks to his athleticism as well of course he also works out from first third to play short he'll play left to play right but look out goodness gracious oh boy that's scary 87 miles an hour right up toward the head south carolina under mark kingston they've gotten really good really quickly their entire recruiting class this year nobody drafted and it wasn't because they're not great players it was because it was a five round draft but it's going to get exciting in columbia in rapid fashion anthony trelongo takes his chance that's something that shortened drafts really gonna have an immediate impact on college baseball this spring yeah it's exciting for college baseball it's it's almost like college baseball be a mini version of the minor leagues i mean you know none of us will ever want to see a five-round draft happen again because it's just not enough opportunities for players and kids but you know i think a 20-round draft or 25 rounds does make a lot of sense to me you'll see next year right there at 20 rounds and in july and depending on how sports calendar go we can't really predict yet but if the college world series ends at its traditional time they're not going to have to deal with the major league baseball amateur draft as a matter of fact they can promote one another so awesome no question yeah i mean disappointed the draft is is not going to be in omaha i thought that was a really cool idea but the fact that it's not during the ncaa tournament is a home run and so i understand where you're going especially as a died in the wool college-based wall advocate second best choice even for you wouldn't you think is going to the all-star game no question yeah that's a that's a i you should selfishly want it at the college world series right but but i think to your point scott like removing it from the ncaa tournament having it go after the college season and then go to the all-star week yeah that's a that's a no-brainer yeah you kind of get a little bit more hype that you've been seeking they do a wonderful job at that draft every year whether it's involving families from home or bringing those to new jersey to the studios trelongo earns himself a walk but gosh i'm really excited to have it be part of the festivities at the all-star game it's always kind of felt like it belonged there it just the mechanics you know the calendar never synced up well outside of a pandemic baseball is very deliberate and yeah and changes that it makes it just is they made 72 changes this year and uh some have been interesting i know the young people have been watching very these young men have been very open to talk about the changes in the game here's zion rose who changes games when he plays so he stays behind the plate long term come back to me in three years okay he has all the tools to do so and it's whether or not you want to keep them there is what it comes down to as an organization then there's no reason for him to move him off he's just that type of athlete where he can make an impact wherever you do put him beat him that time up in the zone that one is put away out there on the right side by the way guys zion rose being a chicago kid who's a louisville commit is absolutely on brand think about the great chicago players louisville's had nick solak cory ray the birdie brothers that has been an incredible pipeline for louisville which is a national brand in college baseball right now and when when the honey holes go golden you might as well just keep going back to it no doubt great baseball suburban city area that pitch is high and away number 11 with the bat in his hands jeff lugi first at bat as a committed baseball player hey look at that we updated the graphic there nice job guys elite tv work right there nice job team 87 miles an hour on the pitch that missed one and one the count and a stolen bag 14 new players in the land in a year in which we wondered what summer would look like at summer baseball would look like whenever it's appropriate and maybe now is the time boy just kudos to all you parents out there and step parents and grandparents and those that keep our youngsters safe and sacrifice extra shifts working hard couples working to allow these young men the opportunity here's the good news parents i can't find one of them that doesn't understand how hard you're working for them to get this chance totally agree that the the these opportunities are not lost on these kids that one skips on by skips by far enough to play to run so the e squad adds another one so peda come on down they were working yesterday in the broadcast with espn's clinton yates who started the undefeated works on around the horn other great shows undefeated podcast as well and they talked a lot about the heavy lifting the families do and he is a bit of an outsider noticed that the all-in game of families there's so much that goes into it but events all over the country the hotel nights the meals everything adds up quick and not to mention the time commitments too cam davis that one is high and easy 85 miles an hour i will say this guys one thing i've noticed you know travel ball was just getting going when i was recruiting in arizona state and it is an event it is something that the family share i remember forget being in an event a perfect game event in fort myers a couple years ago and i go downstairs in the hotel to have breakfast and there's a table probably of 12 parents and kids just having a a howl i mean they're talking they were from the northeast they're getting ready to play like the keynes or one of the elite teams and you could tell that they knew the caliber the players they're playing and it's it's something they'll probably never forget the the parents and the kids will talk about that event in 15 and 20 years and and i think that's a big part of the travel experience that probably gets missed i've seen many a dad and mom very saddened very saddened after an event like jupiter comes to an end because they realize wow this was a big part of our family's life for maybe a half decade no doubt in the relationships you build along the way those are lifetime friends not only for the players and their teammates but the parents you spend a couple hours oh boy got him in the helmet yikes cam's shaking that one off let's hope out there at first here's antonio anderson i think they may wanna let's see if they head on over there get the gear they just wanna double check make sure he's okay flash gordon walk to that end of the dugout to ask again you're talking about families oh just they spend a couple hours behind the backstop together every day too you you start going to dinners with them and spending time with them as much as you do your own family that they become almost an extended part of your family anderson high fly ball left field it's carrying it's tracking it's still tracking and it's down over the head of goshen there's a race on the base pads anderson with a huge huge turn able to play just one that paul just kept carrying really simple flick of the wrist massive huh whipped the barrel around and did not think it was going to go that far that's why they only played one it looks like it was just going to be a routine pop-up that just kept going look like a can of corn off the bat gauche in the left fielder this is the approach but a beautiful approach in which he let it travel deep in his stance and right back to work the right-hander misses high another alabama commit yep hager was a name that really like bursts onto the scene this summer he's kind of first heard about him couple college coaches texted never seen him saw a video and video can go you say yeah that's not bad and then you see him in person first game i ever saw him a triple to the pull side double to the opposite field stole a couple bags and it's like all that hype's real and now we got to follow you the rest of the tournament is he a motor city hit dog as well that might be the best travel team name right now no offense to the others but that's pretty strong my favorite is when the motor city hit dogs match up the home plate chili dogs the dog ball if you will yep absolutely st thomas aquinas miami commit daniel 15 on his jersey played at the 15 new world series and bald to 571 on base percentage this year place for the elite squad his travel team one of the games at the 14 year national had a two-hit day first was a broken bat bleeder over the second baseman's head then to redeem himself next at bat turns on a fastball obliterates it long home run over the left field fence so kind of redeemed himself but in the book it's two line drives one just happened to get over the fence one barely made it out of the infield dirt buried that one in on the hands toward the dugout how about that love it how about that tagging and all the runners will move up heads up play there by davis too no likes play i like to play defensively but i love the the bases everything about that a pitcher catching a pop-up we need more of that in baseball yeah and then maybe it depends on the pitcher and then the tag up here that's just 6'5 speed from cam never said you're blinking he's gone that's awesome is your boy ruins let's go the worked out thank you never seen that on a baseball field before and i'm absolutely in on it count me in but you have to be a catcher to do that by the way i just want to put that disclaimer in there sure you have to do the hard work of catching to be able to have the work towel well because i mean you start throwing stereo or i should say the cliches out and we'll throw it because you know you bring your lunch pail to work every day you're a lunch pail player if you're a catcher yeah if you're the left fielder and you're doing that you're labeled soft or eccentric or yeah well the catchers catchers get a lot of leash because they've earned it they'll let you know about it sometimes as well that one is up and away cutting himself off just a little bit you understand it he's not a primary pitcher such great leverage in length trusting yourself just turning it loose how about that one good sync to it lifting into left field more good carry all the way to the warning track throws the helmet off thinks about three hurries toward three the slide the tag out at the plate and outstanding replay you said it h and didn't lose the work towel in the process or dirty it up on the slide wow 16 to 3 of the score we're about to give away a little bit more hardware here love watching smith wickett about to give away the player of the year award so much has been accomplished by perfect game athletes throughout the last couple of years but nothing more special than the year that has been put put together by a young man out of southern california orange lutheran presenting the award of the perfect game player of the year is ben ford founder and president of perfect game jerry ford and world series champion luis gonzalez ladies and gentlemen the perfect game 14u player of the year derrick curiel and a big round of applause for derek as ryan gold goes to work curiel left-handed pitcher as well mvp hustle all tournament at the 14 new world series and at the 14u wwba congratulations derek well we talked about the the following in the fan club for this talented left-hander ryan gold out of smyrna place for the smyrna slammers we also shared with you that at the 14u elite invitational gold went six innings and struck out 14. so now we can see him pitch h he's uh he's one player one arm that todd coffee one of our scouts former big leaguers saw this summer was excited to send in a report about him and you start looking at the stats and you have to hit refresh and see if those stats are for real and sure enough both ways won our two-way player of the year and on the mound is where he's really really dominant this summer with that front side stays closed a long time i bet you it's a really tough look for hitters yeah working out of the stretch 85 miles an hour from gold comes out clean too shorter arm action he's a high school teammate of michael braswell one of our pg all-americans imagine that having both of them in their lineup see that's the high school job i need right there sutt just ease your way back into coaching nobody can mess that up don't do anything just tell them to play stay out of the way it's one of my strengths glad to have you with us by the way mike rooney that's the man who's taking that next job jeremy brown who does a great job tracking athletes at all high school age groups but specifically at that 13 and 14 you age group i'm darren sutton and the brains behind the operation is danny wechselman down below in the dugout d-wacks oh how about that flutter breaking 63 miles an hour yeah that's unhittable that's zach cranky's breaking ball but left-handed and that was after throwing a firmer breaking ball the pitch before so you think you see the curveball and then he drops this one in on you look at that that started in the dugout that is beautiful born to pitch and a comfortable delivery and then come back and do that at 85. i just naturally dotting that down in a way spot so there there have been so many good numbers in the high 80s that we find ourselves as matthew champion takes his go of it arizona state commit looked like an off-speed pitch there to the right side long run still heading over and into the seats it goes but but think about that a breaking ball that you can command with that sort of change of velocity and an easy 85. i want to be honest you almost start to take a left-hander 14 throwing 85 for granted in this event yep please remind me if i do that because i don't want to well in i'm just going to stick to college baseball do you know how many college baseball left-handed pitchers thrown 85 have won like a trillion baseball games mike roth yeah great example he won the two trillions of all time yeah he won two trillion and a one world two world series yeah two world series almost three remember his his final year arizona beat him in the college world series 2012. and made it to the big leagues not a bad career nope zion rose is his battery mate you see zion wearing number four on that red jersey again this is the perfect example of these games you've got gold pitching to rose facing champion count me in for that chase is a fastball 86 stuck it right by him i mean gold throughout the summer's i think averaged almost two strikeouts per inning maybe like two and a third strikeouts per inning it's ridiculous his numbers and he's showing competition level doesn't matter he's just going to continue to do his thing as he gets that fastball by champion up in the zone i'm telling you he's got deception you can tell the hitters don't see that fastball very well and just pounding the strike zone also helps working ahead working head's one of the more key things in a setting like this just gives you an out no doubt gives you a couple pictures to play with if you miss now if he can do that if gold ends up being able to throw his fastball into right-handers that's pretty much a ticket to play baseball as long as you'd like to yeah michigan's parker pico there's a harder version of his breaking ball not quite the 63 we saw earlier can we call pitches from up here sut i'd like to see the 63 mile an hour dipsy do breaking ball see if we can get sub 60 on it and still get break you get me strike two you'll see that pitch to the right side beautiful piece of hitting didn't get to strike two i mean just a professional at bat let it travel throw the bad head single that's what you got to do with that especially against an arm like gold that's awesome you see previous hitters not seeing the ball very well and you just pop one to the other side of the field and get a bass knock that's big time derek curiel now perfect games player of the year we've been through a lot of the accolades why for you is he the man that earned that award the summer he had i mean the numbers are one thing but the way in which he went about it it's all fields with the bat it's we saw the defense and that defense whether it's bp or in game he's out there just ranging having fun and he performs at the highest of levels and when you have all that andrea left left and ultra projectible it's a very bright future for derek curiel what are your thoughts first impression runes well and i think to your point h it's so funny coaches that i talked to ahead of this game brought up his name over and over again like basically saying he's going to be so good and it's interesting he's not even strong yet and think about how complete his game is right now and as he develops strength it's scary to think i mean i look i watch him play and i'm thinking he's he's a more athletic mark katsey a friend of pg marcotte say by the way that's a good piece of his those are the things he does that make him different right yeah that's impressive he might not stop running he literally might run all the way around and he'll stop right now as that one is backed up just an impressive piece of hitting heads up base running too there just to keep going red the throw as he turned around the bag and took second but left on left you saw him choke up a little bit on the bat there just try to stay short through the zone and it might not have been the hardest hit ball the prettiest hit but left on left just goes six hole advance a runner keep the ending moving when you need some runs a lot of runs but that's all that's all he does yeah that's awesome all right as tony gwynn the other the great tony gwynn would say the 5.5 hole emerson he's a booth favorite as that one darts the outside corner for a strike that's that's some serious gmming by the west squad right here to get curiel and cold emerson that's like getting two 1-1 picks in my draft board anyway he committed what's a tough pitch lefty on lefty what are you gonna do yeah the harder breaking ball there it's about to what you just said h is spot on right to see emerson and curiel who were totally sold on face a really tough lefties kind of fun because they had kenting the first yep that's just a bad draw there 87 spotted and the inning what a performance having fun here at the 14u select festival and a word from diamond kinetics making a difference in your swing dealing with pitches like that the slow curve balls the faster breaking balls the command of mr gold let's talk about the science behind a home run swing you want to hit dingers then barrel that thing up when people talk about home runs they talk about exit velocity but exit velo is actually the outcome of a good swing it's the barrel speed of your swing that creates exit velocity example 70 mile an hour barrel speed is the magic number it gets you 90 miles an hour exit velo and that's over the fence at every perfect game showcase we measure your barrel speed with diamond kinetic swing tracker that's how we identify the true power hitters many of the all-americans you're watching today have barrel speeds around and upwards of 80 miles an hour that translates to exit velos over 100 miles an hour and that's power with the help of diamond kinetics we've cracked the code on the home run equation now you can elevate and celebrate that is the science behind the home run swing [Music] the elite hitters club for diamond kinetics through the years 27 37 hitters cup names like bobby witt nolan gorman who homer in the all-american classic zac feen riley green who is racing to the big leagues with the detroit tigers elite hitters club and you could take it a little bit tighter and deeper with regard to who those hitters are and those numbers a guy like bobby whit with the barrel speed of 70 miles an hour the elite threshold he's at 83 impact momentum austin hendrick and riley green again with what he's able to do with the g's on acceleration bennie montgomery a perfect game all-american is an athlete that ties into all of those numbers and for montgomery certainly we saw him yesterday the home run derby champion that's where he projects up your game with diamond kinetics you can see in the 99th percentile these young athletes of the 14 you age group chasing those kind of numbers great partnership with diamond kinetics as we move into the ninth inning and the right-hander on the mound here at the 14 you select festival you said you were excited to see him work the arizona and chris newstrom i think we're going to see real arm strength with pitch ability that's what i anticipate seeing here you're not going to be wrong runes i like it 85 there in the first fastball talk about the elite hitters club with diamond kinetics and all americans with benny montgomery getting to talk to him last night a little bit just his understanding of the small things of baseball he used to have a hand pump in his swing he goes well why don't i eliminate that shorten everything up get to the ball quicker and he tinkered through it with it throughout quarantine because at the main event showcase where he put up ridiculous numbers right he's had that he still hit a home running game then he comes here you talk to him and it's i made a little adjustment then you see him putting balls off the hampton inn during bp and you can see that he understands and is trying to take his game to the next level when it's already in the upper stratosphere walker earns the walk jackson walker i think the other part of that guys is that the the stuff that diamond kinetics is doing for years baseball players just received kind of these archaic sayings like hit the ball harder generate bat speed but it's one of those things where now diamond connects can give an athlete numbers and then the athlete can tinker with things and try to through their natural athleticism create better numbers and i think it's it's become such a great training tool where baseball the results can really torture you but now it's things that you know you can get involved in a process and have data points that tell you you're getting better and eventually the game will reward you with hits but not in the short term always absolutely and we do the numbers for 14 new national with dk we have two kids at the 14u national who are in that elite hitters club you saw the names and you might have noticed on the bottom line the lowest quote-unquote draft pick was bryce trang at 21. david hogg and andre meduno both are in that elite hitters club already based off of their metrics at the 14 new national and there's another handful that are right on the verge of cracking into those three categories that's awesome and see that's those are things that those kids can train to those are things the the the results in baseball are going to be random at times but those type of improving your processes and your skill set that's invaluable it's something college coaches have now another tool at their disposal to train with improve upon not that that always results in hard contact in-game but to have know why you're hitting the ball the way you are definitely helps and helps you train those smaller aspects of your swing overall approach and just your contact no question and i i think the the final point i have on this is for so many years hitters will get bad results and they want to change their swing and the question becomes why because maybe your you know your metrics are exactly where you want them your bat speed and the things that diamond kinetics can measure for you it's just a matter of the game isn't you're just not getting the results yet so you can get some clarity around there before you start making swing changes that you should never made in the first place darren i'm not rooting against chris newstrom but i want brace clavon on first base okay there is a lead runner that's problematic no offense to jackson walker but he runs a six seven though all right that's even better swung right through showed it right there a little interference there by clayvon was unable to throw mark mabus was unable to throw from behind home plate so they'll send the runner back and we'll do it again in an 18-3 game so newsroom gets that arm sleeve just right scott still dirt bags his travel team this is the most fun i've ever had in eighteen three eighteen to three games this is awesome it's all about the company this has been great though so fun i'd still have fun if i didn't like you guys just because we're talking about these kids yeah that's right i mean it makes it easier if you like the people it's optional chris neustrom not disappointed after a leadoff walk two very impressive punch outs and here's one of those diamond kinetic elite hitter club bats andre meduna which if you had to guess what amongst them if you took a handful of who you thought might be in it andre's got to be one of them yeah but i'll tell you david hogg i would not have guessed that's impressive just because of physical size well neustrom's found a groove now breaking ball first strike fastball by you what are you looking for here now i think he's going to go back to the breaking ball but he is maybe overwhelmed him with both pitches signal and fastball up two up i mean this is modern this is pitching in 2020. fastball up sets up breaking ball down especially if it's so many guys now throwing more of a 12-6 breaking ball you're talking about neustrum in that dirt bags program tim esme one of the key coaches that that pro that's a travel ball tim esme a triple a manager now the white sox organization yeah so does a little bit of both inside corner that's a breaking ball that is strike three scottsdale dirtbag proud certainly good breaking ball got comfortable out there 18 to three of the score we are having fun despite a a gap of 15 runs these ruins i'm jeremy next to us danny down below the select festival we'll wrap it up with another half inning you can tell right away if it's going to be a good glove or not broken and good so when it breaks in nice you want to use it for years and i got the gold on it now [Applause] if you're into it mentally you're getting your pre-pitch routine defense doesn't slump [Applause] it doesn't come and go like offense if you lock it in mentally it's going to be there [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] last year at the perfect game select baseball festival the first ever it was so much fun not too far from here on campus at oklahoma smiles all around familiar faces have returned we'll have it back again this second perfect game select festival 14u tomorrow right here 2 o'clock eastern on perfect game dot tv we'll have it for you stem to stern the finest athletes in the nation what about that class jeremy brown the 13 new class it's fun it's exciting we're just getting to see the guys again here i think this year's group might be more physical already bigger bodies but having the condensed all-american schedule this week's been really awesome for the 13 years to be able to watch the 14-new game the 14-new game to be able to watch the all-american classic because that's kind of your next checkpoint within your perfect game career and you're getting to see these guys play right in front of you michael mullanex gets an opportunity to lock this ball game down he's a young man who by trade is an outfielder and has done well as an outfielder really performed at national did well as we talked about earlier at the 16uwba but gets a chance to see if he can record three outs here michael mullen x is just a baseball player isn't he plays up hits lead off when he's probably used to being a middle of the order guy come in here get you a couple outs why not and gets sync at 83 miles an hour gets a swing and a miss anytime you can get a first pitch strike that's always a relieving feeling landon victorian gets a chance to hit he was the starting pitcher in this game this mullin exit 84 miles an hour skips that over the outside that's a cool honor getting to start a game of this magnitude there's only two of them right you know and you you'll pitch one inning just like everybody else but you're the first guy warming in the bullpen you're the one that comes in after the anthem and the first pitches by the celebrities yeah just different different that's right different level of tension baseball's a unique sport in its tradition we wait all the time to hear who the starter in the all-star game will be at the highest of levels but yet it's the same thing it's one maybe two innings like everybody else you're the first one out there so walk rafael velasquez coach benji maduro at huntington beach i like coach maduro that's a good program and those orange uniforms not afraid to travel not afraid to fundraise not afraid to really provide a lot of opportunity built a beautiful new field on campus they are the oilers correct you are correct and you're right they have awesome orange uniforms oh they're the best this could be a tough matchup for mullin x i think that he kind of his speed is right where velasquez wants it h we need you to get huntington beach to the high school showdown next year always got talent pull that off for us this it's all already the greatest tournament in the nation just we could get those orange uniforms that's all they can wear though orange every game very fair very fair stipulation that pitch dives down and in trio you are absolutely green lighted ralphie hustle his travel team so his mvp team had him curiel and tyson drives that one hard hit top spin bounces up and over the wall for a ground rule double he heard your runes that's right exit velocity runes look at that 103 miles an hour wow wow that was impressive and honestly to be able to be a 14 year old in swing 3-0 if someone told 14 year old mike rooney to swing 3-0 i would have lost my breath that's impressive the only thing that kept that one from sailing into the bullpen was the fact that the hands just got on top a little bit and it created a top spin whip to it andy backspin on that ball that's sailing off the back wall of the bullpen look at brennan zigler with the super cool oakleys love this i think those are ty's glasses honestly phil nevin reincarnate he hits a high fly ball center field tagging tagging earning a throw a pretty good one wow an excellent throw as the runner might move up zion tried to pop the tag down wow i mean cam davis who took one in the head earlier glad to see he's okay because he tagged up ran all over the bases after that and made a beautiful throw here turned what really wasn't a close play into a close play danny wexleman will tell us in just a bit about the most valuable player in this game and she'll have a conversation with him as that one misses down and then the perfect game 14 you select festival mike rooney jeremy brown i'm darren and we're glad you found perfect game dot tv this is the only streaming network devoted to amateur baseball as that one is in and i gotta be honest i'm gonna open it up soon amateur softball perfect game with the partnership now with premiere girls fast pitch to form perfect game softball i mean pgf's incredible to have that teamwork together is just going to open things up love it pulls the hands in what a beautiful piece of hitting a line drive into center field as the throw sails off the back stop runner moves up runs scores on the errant throw but i'm going to go all the way back to that approach almost look like i had john ulru joining this game with that pretty swing really pretty and and jeremy you mentioned it walco for a long lever guy has a really controlled swing and this is gorgeous look at that yeah that's pretty much how you would draw it up sure is all right the west squad saying we're not done we want a couple of more bats a san diego state commit ties out the scene his g form is just a good that's him so on brand yes are you a gear guy runes yeah you know typically no but on a tie south the scene yes like it's it's all about the player right like it's kind of like you gotta know who you are so you know what's fun what makes baseball great and really the evolution of the of the game especially amongst these young athletes the colors the different things is clinton yates of espn was in your chair yesterday and he stands on the other side of the fence and you're both right that's what i love about it yeah for him he's not under the swag no they're he's 100 way more than you oh all in on this the more colors the better the more padding the more different kinds of gloves the different shoes the laces love it so that's what that's what's fun and the game's evolving in a fun way yeah there is no wrong answer and i like that rose did a nice job showing that one as a strike it's just two good players real close to each other huh rose and south has seen no doubt hmm could they be perfect game all-americans in a couple of years you hope so i hope so a lot of talent on the field no doubt but you know what's even cooler than that is there are a bunch of 14 year olds at home that are watching this saying i want to be the all-american i'm coming for you i'm coming to get you like there you know heavy is the head that wears the crown right like is that's i think one of the coolest things about mile markers like this the the reinforcement it is for these kids and the motivation it is for kids across you know the world really definitely please don't name names not that you would but i guarantee you you can think of a half dozen kids maybe a dozen that you struggled not putting in this game absolutely that you really thought my goodness this i have a hard time not having him here those are the kids mike's talking about the the talent level at just a 14 year national alone if you were a college program and you could just commit players right then and there you could load up your entire class for that year and not even think twice about it yeah it's awesome south the scene spoils it to the right side each and every year it's the first weekend of august it's perfect games 14 new national showcase invitation only yep invite only showcase the the event itself gets the invites throughout tournaments throughout your performance from what our scouts see what our scouts here after we can confirm something like that and the regional showcase is a 14-year regional showcase circuit has has really taken off and that's what has helped grow the 14 new national showcase it's a great point by you the regional showcase chance to show and go and get signed up i think that's a great point by you many athletes you know not having to get on an airplane a car ride and and work out regionally and see where they stand amongst their peers and that's where you find them a lot i'm glad you mentioned that those are usually going on in april may june all throughout around the country leading into that event in august and the early ones when we get to see them early on we get the names then you get to track them throughout the summer kind of puts them on the map for you how about his reaction with that walk oh yeah i was thinking that south the scene had a really cool fist pump because he's a really cool kid and anybody that watches golf dustin johnson a couple weeks ago hit a big putt and had the lamest fist pump ever so i'm saying ty south the scene way better than dustin johnson pro golfer i'm just putting that out there wow that's a cool comparison not what i expected would be coming from you that's right south assine is a stud he is so fun and they both move up come on now west squad is not done they say you're talking about newsroom with the scottsdale dirt bags have cam camanetti coming up tomorrow and the 13 you also plays for the dirtbags and we had a 12u select festival play for the dirtbags as well so the future's bright for scottsdale dirt bags love it pitches in just off the plate got a little you got a little nick madrigal and south of the scene different players i've uh very yeah like their their energy is very similar southeast scene is a little is a little uh there's a little bit more show to his game in a positive way but yes like very similar players that small guys that play with an electricity but swing big you know like both madrigal and south of scene do not they're not just trying to hit a 27 hopper in the 4-3 hole they're looking to do damage and they're not super open to you telling them they can't great cause that's a good analogy yeah one is pop foul behind home plate you're exactly right though because you've been around in madrigal now to the white sox to the big leagues very quickly from oregon state but it took a lot to get inside his head and to get him to a talk about himself and you know he just is that kind of guy and and he wasn't going to do anything with much flash or flare no an amazing player love to beat you love to beat you more than anyone i've ever seen yep um but you're right that that part of it the personality is certainly different in the game anyway both leaders madrigal never wanted to be the center of attention but he was absolutely the leader you know after his freshman year in 2016 they didn't make the ncaa tournament and as the story goes nick madrigal that summer texted the whole team and says that stops right now and of course the next year they were 56 and 6. noostrom draws the walk ah good to see flash gordon flash making an appearance we just can't do without him rico billups andrew mcguire jp holmen and clint hertl on the coaching staff for the e squad i told flash as he'll make a move and give another opportunity for a position player to throw a little bit i think i told flash that's a smart man that's a smart man that lets a a manager be his bench coach and flash did that love it what do you got a little trilango here anthony trelongo pitch a little bit on occasion yeah we've seen him throw this summer he's gonna um we've seen the arm strength across the diamond he's caught in this summer a little short arm action there's really not anything he can't do so hopefully he can here just close it out for the east and keep moving on towards the 13 new game we'll move on west squad coaching staff by the way junior spivey bobby freeland lloyd thompson former professional athlete great bp thrower and founder of the home plate chili dogs kevin paxton and joe patterson and their honorary coach toby keith so the uh that side wins in platinum albums and sales i gotta be honest i'm gonna be in big trouble when i get home to arizona and i am not handing my wife jenny a toby keith autograph i know that's going to be poorly received she is an enormous toby keith fan so i've gone through the same thing and uh my daughter daughter tori is down there field producing and um you know she stayed professional she stayed on point you're not supposed to be asking for autographs when you're producing but mom was hoping for the same thing mom got a phone pic really that's it so it's the same way wow we disappointed both of us yeah that's right we better just host a radio show that's right love it 18-5 without a toby keith autograph but it's been great look toby around these kids you know those that are country music fans and those are just fans of of huge stars to give back i mean it's a great example for these athletes let's put it in perspective right for toby keith's world he's you know the kind of earner that could own a baseball team in a stadium and and wants to be here with these 14 year olds and these all americans he wants to be there with him because they're giving to his okay kids corral didn't send a rep over to do it that one's a gold star in my book no doubt didn't leave an autograph for runes tonight though no first world problems first 80 miles an hour gets that one to run away well this the 14u class and these athletes heading into most of them their freshman year a handful of them their sophomore year just a small handful but these are young men some will be doing it through their laptops as there's a strikeout for the second out some will be for this semester going to school at home on their computers some will be in present learning bottom line they're freshmen you know they get to be big stars here and then they go get to be the bottom of the totem pole in their high school head down in the hallways let's go nobody cares well you hope this year head down mask on in the hallways that's right well said maybe easier for a freshman safely to go incognito this is a cool class though guys i mean i i i know we've said it the whole game but there's a little bit of everything in this baseball class talent all different types of talented players purify back to the screen the exciting thing for the game of baseball at the highest of levels it's a diverse class there were 17 african americans in the perfect game all-american classic yesterday and you see again the sport continuing to grow to get well above that seven eight percent hopefully soon in the major leagues let's at least get to where society stands close to 15 let's go more purify hits it hard little flip nice play and that'll do it the celebration is on for the e squad it's shower time 18-5 the final score the perfect game select festival congratulations to these athletes now we've got to figure out who the mvp of this game is very quickly and in order to do that we're going to let danny wechselman tell us who the mvp is in just a minute there were some good games some good athletes that did some good stuff at the 14 you select festival danny will be joined by luis gonzalez and i'll let danny have the floor danny wechselman give her a cue take it away go for it danny when you win one of these in the big leagues you'll get a car okay so you're working your way up we are lucky to have luis gonzalez back with us who is presenting the mvp trophy to antonio anderson congratulations thank you i'm gonna take this from you antonio big day today for the east coming out with a huge win you went two for three with a run and an rbi on the mound you won an inning with a strikeout how much does this award mean to you um you're gonna get a nice bath now used to this we get we get very there we go [Music] how good does that ice bath feel it feels good i want to thank everyone that got me here my trainers my coaches it's just a blessing to be here you told me that you've been working on your interview skills you had two today you earned both of them you know you thanked all of these people what part of your game are you most proud of my hitting i really developed and switch hitting i really just started hitting in the game switch hit it a couple years ago and it just developed over the years antonio congratulations congratulations team east thank you darren back to you mike rooney it was an honor to have you sit here with your perspective passionate maybe more so than anybody in the nation about college baseball these young men are being watched very closely by the nation at the college baseball level but that being said what were your thoughts today yeah just i is so impressed with the talent level the kids the composure they showed and just i think the most exciting thing about this class sutt is that there's a little bit of everything if ty south of scene is your jam so exciting and then you know everything every different type of talent you could expect the game the game is in great shape watching these kids jeremy the future's bright for baseball and that that's just a good way to leave it these talented athletes did what they needed to do throughout the weekend really put themselves on the map and you're going to be seeing a lot more commitments other than just jeff lugi coming up here out of this group guys this was fun we really appreciate those of you that watched it took the time to log on and to enjoy these athletes this game upon completion will re-air in an hour and a half upon completion so just set your clocks there roughly at about nine o'clock eastern this game will i should say 10 o'clock eastern let's do the math a special day for some of the finest athletes in the land and we saw them strut their stuff not only on the diamond where they were able to show who they are athletically but off the field at the hotel how they handled themselves how they treat one another how they respectfully talked with perfect game all americans learning the sport it takes a lot of hard work to earn an invite to a game like this in a year when there was so much question these athletes deserve to be celebrated because when everything went quiet they were loud with their work ethic perfect game dv certainly glad to have all of you with us on pg tv and enjoying this action again this game will re-air in an hour and a half and very soon later on this week we'll have the archive for all time and you can find it on your search engine on perfect game dot tv danny wechselman down in the field mike rooney sitting next to me jeremy brown i'm darren good night everyone you
