a few minutes walk from the world famous shibuya scramble crossing there's a very special very tokyo cafe in the new tokyo plaza department store if you go up the escalators to the fifth floor you can find the pepper parlor which opened in december 2019. we were greeted by a friendly pepper the robot designed by softbank [Music] [Music] we ordered our drinks before being seated she even took a good look at our faces to predict what kind of waffles we'd like sadly though it wasn't long after our breakfast so we stuck with just the drinks [Music] we regretted this slightly later on when we saw robots delivering meals to other diners but we still got to benefit from our very own pepper entertaining us is fun and games at our table like some strange robotic maid cafe in japan there's a history of friendly benevolent robots but we've both been brought up with so much dystopian sci-fi not to see something slightly sinister behind peppa's friendly but blank gaze and gripping hands [Music] as well as peppa and the delivery robot there's also an ai cleaning robot in the cafe you can also see some now robots behind a plexiglas screen which dance and perform to songs in our case it was glenn miller's in the [Music] mood all in all the cafe was a brilliant place to visit and definitely worth the hype why not subscribe to see more of our videos or you can follow japan shorts on instagram you
