hey everyone today we're going to be doing a quick comparison of the peak design everyday backpack and the everyday backpack zip which are two really popular Sleek versatile camera/ Tech bags I see the everyday backpack pretty much anywhere that I travel around the world and then I actually saw the peak design everyday zip backpack pop up in the Netflix series The Night agent if you haven't checked that out it was surprisingly entertaining and it was pretty surprising to see this backpack pop up in the series great to see Peak design getting some recognition and so I've you know been a fan of both of these bags for a while now but there are some similarities and differences that might make it a little bit tricky to decide which is best for you depending on your needs and that's what we're going to be talking about in this video before doing so if you're new here welcome my name is Danny and on this channel we love reviewing popular travel and everyday carry gear if you like these types of videos and you'd be interested in seeing more please consider subscribing as it helps the channel out a lot so with all that being said let's go ahead and jump in overall it feels like there's more similarities than differences between the two bags which is part of what makes it tricky to decide which one might be best for you so just running through some of the similarities as far as the appearance both of these have a very Sleek techy modern look very much in line with what you would expect from a peak design bag the appearance is one of the aspects that's a bigger difference between the two and I'll go a little bit more into detail on that when we take a look at the organization and the main compartments regardless it's pretty versatile appearance very common around the world and then both are very solidly built they have the same exterior 400d recycled nylon Fabric and a reinforced 900d base so these feel like they're going to hold up very well offer plenty of weather resistance they have the well protected and smooth working zippers that provide a lot of access to all areas of the bag these have continued to work well as I've used them over the years on different models of peak design bags and then beyond that the exterior of these bags has a ton of functionality that's one of the things that I've always really liked about both of these so you have the two external water bottle pockets they both have you know really great carrying handles on the sides you can carry them in briefcase mode they have the really nice handles on the top with some nice accenting you have the small Peak design logo that also has a little bit of accenting so it looks great and then they also have the ability to be configured with compression strip that are removable and adjustable so you see these attachment points along the front along the bottom and that's another really cool aspect of this bag makes it very useful for photography gear if you want to strap on a tripod also great you know for an urban setting if you're carrying a yoga mat you know if you want to hang on a jacket so you can put them along the front you can put them along the bottom just a lot of flexibility that is one of the differences with the everyday backpack is you do have this magnetic compartment on the bottom they can be used to store those you don't have that compartment on the everyday zip so that's something that you want to keep in mind and then taking a look at the sizing this is one of the key differences between the two bags both of these are offered in two different sizes so the everyday zip backpack comes in a 15 L size and a 20 L size which is the one that I have here the everyday backpack comes in the 20 L size that you see here and it's also offered in a larger 30 L size but even though both of these are 20 L there's still some different es in the actual way that the sizing is used so the zip backpack is 20 L just as it is and you can see it has a pretty fixed volume whereas the everyday backpack actually is 20 L at its Max Capacity so that's where this adjustable volume comes into place with this top flap that they have here you can either compress this down if you're not carrying as much or you can expand it out and when you expand it all the way out is when you can really take advantage of the 20 liters of space whereas when it's fully compressed it's actually around 17 liters I believe and so this bag in general feels a little smaller and tighter than the 20 L everyday zip backpack so for me that's one of the advantages cuz I want to have that extra bit of space of the zip backpack but if you don't carry as much or you prefer to have the flexible volume then that may be something that you want to consider for the everyday backpack regardless both of these have a pretty rigid fixed shape so whether they're empty or full they're going to look about the same and even though they have that rigid shape they don't stick out too too much they still maintain a pretty slim profile making them great for navigating credit areas and jumping onto public transit taking a look at the harness system this is another area where the bags are really quite similar they have Peak designs typical harness system so there's pretty good amount of padding here they're not the most robust straps but in general they work well they have the adjustable sternum strap with this kind of buckle system that you can either hang both on one side if you're not going to use it and then you can you know adjust it however you need to and then on the back paneling they both have again very similar style of padding here they have the rotating straps with the little hinges that is very typical two peak designs bags and so very very similar they have the luggage pass through it's got kind of a magnet along the back to help it stay flush against the back you have the ability to add a waist belt to both of these not included with the bag but it kind of tucks in behind here one thing that I'm noticing as a very slight difference between the two and the harness system and I don't know if it's just with the bags that I got or if this is common across all of the different models is the magnets on the everyday backpack and the straps are really pretty strong which I like because it helps keep these in place particularly if you're using this like a briefcase whereas it's not quite as strong of an attachment for the everyday zip so the straps can get a little bit more kind of wild doesn't look as neat I don't know if that's because maybe the padding is slightly thicker on the everyday zip backpack you just given the larger size so that's something that you want to keep in mind as well as it looks like there is a little bit of a difference there which is probably why the magnets don't work as well so if you want the neater straps if you use this in briefcase mode a lot then that's probably something to consider for the everyday for me of course we'll prioritize the strap Comfort because that's how I primarily use the bag and then jumping into the organizational options lots of similarities here but there are some of the key differences as well first up they both have a dedicated well- padded suspended laptop compartment which I really like you have the well protected zipper it's a top loading compartment and one of the cool things about Peak designs bags is they have the ability to adjust the height to account for different size devices and so you know I always feel like my laptop is very well protected in Peak designs laptop compartments because it's suspended with the padding and the nice liner that they have with the everyday zip backpack and the everyday backpack you have a separate tablet sleeve to separate your devices and there's a magnet here at the top to keep the sleeve secure and they both have a little Tech area that's kind of a quick access pocket with a couple of slip pockets on the inside a little bit of elastic so they're going to be able to handle your Tech items Chargers Mouse that's what I have in one of these right now my laptop charger of course with the everyday zip backpack you have maybe a little bit more space just because it's a slightly larger bag as far as its fixed shape uh so I like the extra bit of capacity that's provided there but both of them do a great job of handling your laptop and then both of them offer the zippers that open from all directions which is one of my favorite things about Peak design bags they have The Zipper pulls that you can use to lock them everything that's very common with Peak designs backs you can open from the bottom you can open from the top and then you can easily access whatever you need the layout on the inside is similar as far as having the adjustable dividers which I really like from Peak designs they have some of the most Innovative sort of layout here that I've seen as far as camera gear so it works very very well I've covered this in other videos and so that's pretty much the same but where we get into the difference is is of course where one is more of a top loading bag so you have this Buckle that we saw earlier with the magnet quick release very distinctive to Peak design you know this was how the original bag came out and it's become a very popular system because it allows you quick access can reach in from the top grab what you need and then if you want to get to the side to one of the dedicated areas you can you still have the uh zipper and slip pockets on the side but then with the zip backpack this is actually what what stood out to me and what I really like is that you get a full clamshell bag so you can use it as a top loader if you just open some of the zipper but then it goes all the way down and you of course with the dividers it's going to prevent it from opening completely but you can remove these and then this actually opens up completely flat which this bag cannot because of the way that it's laid out you have this bit of fabric here so it'll never be a true clamshell bag you have a lot of access but you know that's just something that's going to be a little bit different it's going to come down to your preferences but for me I'm always a fan of the clam shell style option as I just feel like it's going to provide a little bit more peace of mind for me I don't really use the adjustable volume on this one all that much and so I prefer to have that extra space and then this layout in general because even if you take the dividers out which you can do on both of them then this clamshell layout is going to work a little bit better for Tech and EDC in my opinion but you know that'll really just come down to how you use your bag how you organize it both of them can work well and yeah that is that is probably the biggest difference comes down to the name it's probably a little obvious from where we started with the video um but just to summarize you know besides the top loading area the sizing is going to be the other thing to keep in mind so again the 20 L everyday backpack gets a little bit smaller and the adjustable volume is where you can hit that 20 l so if you want a little bit of extra space just built in but not quite the 30 L size of the everyday backpack pack then this ZIP backpack is going to be really great it's also going to offer slightly more padded shoulder straps and then the everyday zip backpack is going to offer this sort of magnetic compartment for the straps that are included with the bag so both are going to be great hopefully you know this helps kind of Identify some of the differences the pricing is fairly similar Peak design bags in general are a little bit more on the premium end of the spectrum I'll throw up the pricing here they're close enough that you know if you're willing to invest in one of these I think that one of them might be a little bit more um but regardless not a huge difference uh and then yeah if you're just looking for a Sleek weather resistant durable and flexible bag that'll be able to handle your camera gear both of these are still going to be some of the best options that you can take a look at and so that's it those are some of the similarities and differences between the peak design everyday backpack and the everyday backpack zip hopefully this video was helpful and if you have any questions on anything that I covered in the video or suggestions for similar items that I should check out as always please let me know in the comments and I'll make sure to include links in the description below to the dedicated videos that I've done for each of these bags as well as to some of the other bags in Peak designs lineup like their 30 L travel backpack as well as their 45 L travel bag and I'll also link to some of the other camera bags that I've really enjoyed using from companies like brevity wandered I'm probably going to be doing just a you know broader round video on some of the camera bags that I tend to use most regular l so keep an eyee out for that and if you have any suggestions for other comparison videos that you would like to see definitely let me know about those as well and I want to go ahead and thank Peak design for sending the bag for me to test out and to you guys for watching and supporting
