This brought me back to those "dark and scary" nights landing a helicopter on the back of a pitching and rolling tiny little cutter/ship, with no discernible horizon, thinking the same thoughts as these distinguished pilots. Most of my "wisdom" came from flights with weather conditions worthy of Air Medals...for the sake of training. Thanks for sharing.
Good grief.
Holy. Shit. Much respect for this crew.
These guys are amazing, every time I see military pilots (of any branch) in action it leaves me in awe.
Does anyone know anything about those carrier landing tracking cameras? There's a moving crosshair target, and a scale on the left with some sort of meter. What is this? What's referenced to the horizon, and what is referenced to the moving deck?
EDIT: found some information:

My dad flew for 18 out of his 26 years in the US Air Force. He always told me that Navy pilots were better than AF pilots. Not necessarily better at dropping bombs or air-to-air, but just better "sticks".
