Pastor's Weekly Update September 24, 2021

hello friendship family and happy friday to you i will jump right into this week's update and keep things simple this week i am so looking forward to this sunday september 26th when we celebrate my eighth pastoral anniversary serving here at friendship as i've been saying week after week this is not merely my anniversary it is our anniversary as pastor and people remember we have come together and come this far by faith my speaker our speaker rather will be my friend sister and colleague the reverend dr karen elizabeth stewart first lady and director of evangelism and discipleship at first institutional baptist church in phoenix arizona she will preach at both the 8 a.m and 11 30 services yes we're having our regular services that day and both will stream live so i pray that you will be able to join us also we will have a refreshment hour outside from 9 45 to 11 15 observing all safety protocols ex-hour will be canceled sunday for both in-person and online classes i pray you will plan to join us if you attend the 11 30 service plan to come early and enjoy the safe fellowship outside this will be a wonderful opportunity for us to come together give god glory and fellowship with one another as we celebrate what the lord has done and is still doing attention all singles tomorrow saturday september 25th at 2 p.m is the last chattan chew fellowship of the year the speaker for this event is our very own beloved deacon charles chucky owens he will be chatting with the singles in his own unique and i'm sure funny way deacon chucky's topic is show me the money oh yeah and how to budget too this will be an exciting and informative event it's not too late to register and participate check out the singles ministry page on the church website for more information beloved we have a new and exciting study for widows and widowers entitled anxious for nothing based on the best-selling book by max lucado he is one of my favorite authors this study is focused on the needs and experience of the widowed both male and female everyone beloved encounters anxiety but you don't have to let worry fear or any of those things control your life especially as you navigate the new normal widows we invite you to join others and walk through the steps to manage the thoughts and responses that come with fear and anxiety from a biblical perspective this class will start on tuesday september 28th at 7 pm and will meet virtually every 2nd and 4th tuesday of the month for 1 hour via zoom there is more information in the written portion of the update to help you connect with this class and to connect with others beloved our side by side couples ministry invites all married and engaged and seriously dating couples to join them for a new study entitled growing together in christ growing together in christ this study starts on friday october 8th at 7 pm and will be held virtually via zoom as well married and engaged couples are encouraged to join for this six-week series where you'll learn about the power of prayer in marriage what it means to follow christ together as a couple and having a spiritual influence on other families growing together in christ will help you pursue god together as a couple all couples are welcomed and encouraged to attend as we strive to grow together in faith there's a link in the written portion of the email to help you access this class and be a participant now beloved remember our scholarship ministry is currently accepting applications for students to join the this academic year the scholarship ministry is open to all friendship students from kindergarten to 12th grade the application can be found on our website we need all new and returning students to complete the online application if you have any questions please call or email reverend gerard singley here at the church the last day to apply is october 4th now looking ahead don't forget about our 2021 remembering our lost loved ones service this will take place on tuesday october 19th here at friendship in our sanctuary we have had wonderful opportunity to remember those we have lost along the way in the last three years and this year will be no different if you would like to remember your lost loved one in this service would you please send their name their relationship to you and their photo to leah carrington in our membership services department would you especially note if your loved one passed away in 2020 or in 2021 beloved you can submit your submissions your names of your lost loved ones via email or regular mail lia's contact information is in my written portion of this blog as well and the last day is today friday september 24th now i'll be honest we'll probably give you until monday as well but we want you to get it in as soon as possible thank you very much for your participation and your understanding now we have a word from the community the 100 black men of orange county invite young african-american males in the 6th through 12th grades to participate in their passport to the future college prep and mentoring program this is a free program that seeks to assist the transition of these students from adolescent boys to confident young men ready to successfully take on the challenges of college career and community there is information in the written update and a link to their website for in for those who would like to be a part of this program well beloved that's all i have this week i tried to be quick realizing that we have a long weekend ahead of us thank you for listening and reading
