aunty and my grandma and my daddy they make a vamp out of anything they'll take this song and they get to the end and they will say long keep me [Music] y'all ain't singin [Applause] [Music] y'all say [Music] and then when my daddy get excited he was saying this he said let's take it to church that mentioned double clap and you said this you said oh for me sit down in here thank you young people worship was not invented three years ago somebody lied to you i wrote some songs 35 years ago that the record company was telling me we don't need that can you pick it up a little bit i was writing worship years ago so it gives me a right to speak on it i think the worship teams are wonderful but the worship teams are not better than the congregation just because you're on the worship team you can't walk around the church with an attitude [Applause] now i ain't scared to say what i'm saying because i got my bus money y'all ain't getting it back so i get to tell the truth worship leaders flow in line with the with the ministry and the work of the pastor stop trying to create a church in the church it's quiet in here [Applause] i was at a funeral i was at a funeral the other day we buried a young girl 22 years old and the families were kind of at odds with each other and the young worshiper he wasn't from my church got on the stage and i guess he wanted to sing a certain song and you can't just push ministry into your certain song and he jumped on there already getting ready to fight he said it's a war cry i got buttons at my i got a button i can push your mic just go off just it's a war cry and he's singing songs that ain't got nothing to do with the event y'all tell him it is mother burgers was praying over there thank you mother burgess [Applause] i wrote some songs 30 years ago statistics say this many people a statistic that's a big word in durham statistics say at least 20 of y'all remember this song it says i'll give you the honor [Music] he was there you too young you're too young i wrote another one the bass player that's not here today from baltimore started a room and said richard smallwood no no no no he didn't this is john p key song 20 years ago i went and got on the organ in my own church put the lights down low i was trying to have a moment and i started singing them good old hymns of the church go to f we're marching to zion [Music] she really smiling now and i apologize to that lady that i thought wasn't looking it wasn't paying attention and i thought she was rolling her eyes she just woke up she was asleep i would give her a hundred dollars but i don't want to embarrass her just i thought she was mad because she's sitting right over there just asleep as she could be but when i started saying these him she woke right up see all right watch this i'm working on my first movie i'm so excited amen and it's um netflix called us last week and i don't know the language this is really funny so i'm talking to the lady over marketing and she said i need to say something she said i know we're all on the joint call the conference call she said but i need to let pastor key know i'm a fan she said i've been listening to your music for years she said folk around this office no when i come in in the morning i play as my john p key so i smile wait wait so we start talking about the movie and she said the movie sounds so good now these people have offered me a deal and they haven't seen they don't know if i'm capable and i said that i said why are you guys talking to me now and you haven't seen trailer she said something she said because i know your body of work she said and your body of works reached for excellence come on y'all ain't saying and i got happy on the other end of the phone so hold on so i don't know the language when you're talking you know movies and and stories what i do know is i've watched movies that i can tell what's right and wrong i know i hired a professional lighting guy i've got professional camera people so she says to me she said what we ought to do is just go on and let you finish the bible get the bible and she said when you finish with your bible we can cut it up and i'm so crazy i'm thinking she's talking about my holy bible but this is a term they use for breaking the story down so instead of a movie y'all probably know what i didn't know it it's they want to take the movie now and make it a series isn't that good so she said do you have the bible i said i got it right here and i went along i had the bible right there on my desk i ain't know what scripture she wanted me to turn to but i was ready the movie is called the lost song and it takes place in carolinas my father was born in in blacksburg and in gaffney area and his his mother died and he moved they moved him to buncombe county and real quick the stories about him going to durham walking from from from from gaffney area all the way to durham and meeting a beautiful woman named lizzy and they have 16 children yeah 16 of us i'm the 15th or 16th and wait a minute so so um y'all got stuck on them 16 years and i just kind of scared me out but um yes um he has a choir in 1947 and they were called the southland gospel singers and they sung all up and down north carolina south carolina virginia somebody heard them in new york and they got a record deal on their way to new york i'm rushing the story uh the the klansmen stopped them in about about 30 40 minutes outside of durham turned their bus around and shot the tire off the back of the bus yeah and so he's discouraged all these years john john throw your hand up real high stand up so they can see you he plays my father from age 15 to 37 bishop rants allen plays my father in the movie from age 37 to 57. we're shooting movie tomorrow now listen to me this is really good in this story i tell about a a a chronicle uh a tour with james cleveland mahalia jackson the caravans and the dixie hummingbirds y'all gonna love the movie i promise so pray for me because in the movie i introduced them to what gospel music is and where it came from from the shores of africa we sing a song and all the music is original and then we shot in kenya okay i just lied it looked like kenya we shot in texas we shot it in beaumont texas but it looked like africa so when y'all go to the movie with people that wasn't here tonight don't you hit them on the leg say that look like africa don't it that is beaumont texas but i introduced him to what i don't have to introduce you to i introduced him to the little boy named jim boy in the movie who goes to the white church and he hears to him and he gets the lyric and he runs back to the slave quarters and he gives the lyrics and they sing it in common meter i don't have to tell you much about it because i introduce you to it some of you that didn't know it about 25 years ago i'll prove it because what i'm getting ready to do now is i'm gonna turn this whole big auditorium into that little church down in durham but we didn't have no organ but we had a big bass drum that i think was stolen from the high school because it had little river high school on it i'm not accusing my dad or my brothers but i don't know how i got to the little church we had a snare drum one ain't he played the bass drum on one place and then on italy from detroit she moved in with us because she was gambling and she hit the numbers and they didn't pay her and she lost her mind she moved in with us for therapy how do i know this happened to her cause she told you every time you passed it come here talk like james we've been coming baby you know what happened to me what i hit the number 3303 and they didn't pay me five minutes later you walked in the room she said come here baby you know what happened to me i hit the number 3303 stop writing that number down i seen the lady pull my pocketbook up i know what you're doing i'm just getting some gum no you're not three three oh three three three oh three and they didn't pay me i'm about eight years old i got tired of she called me one day she said come here baby you know what happened to me i looked around ain't seen them but i said yeah you hit the number 3303 and they didn't pay my grandma hit me with a chair something behind my head because when we was growing up you couldn't say us come on now you couldn't talk back so i'm getting ready to turn this room into that little church and watch your grandmama watch it jump up when i sing this right here now we got carpet we need to lose the carpet and then we need to lose all these pretty lights uh man y'all take me back to the country here [Music] yes i believe i believe founded the bible [Music] you too young somebody found deliverance [Applause] everybody clap your what got to do he'll turn your ministry upside down amen god's bursting us out the seams let me tell you i just opened 82 different ministries for outreach 82. come on somebody but we didn't see it in the media because i run from the cameras i can't stand them so many folk doing it now for the cameras amen you pastors i love you i appreciate you hey man you don't have to wait the next next year to down that's when your membership dropped they went home they didn't think they would need it anymore now i'm gonna play a song on this piano young people and i need you to catch your mama eye if you all over everywhere if you over 45 now this ain't the jump song the jump song is the next one this song to make sure you didn't took enough medicine to come down here and jump with me now this is a song y'all sang every year at your fam reunion mostly all from up north and all around just when you come down south and i'm getting retail some family business if you don't blink your eyes we won't know it's your family y'all know that man that stay at grandma's house y'all call him uncle junior [Music] and y'all don't know who he related to we don't know who uncle he is but you better not ask no questions about uncle junior he stay in that room right there to the back by the back though we drank water he drank clear liquid you know what i'm talking about y'all bring him out three times a year thanksgiving christmas and new year's and he sang the same song now i'm a street preacher by nature i go out at night and i go out when everybody is sleeping i find folk walking the street amen and i bring him on in the house anybody i find that's drinking and i never go out as john p key i always tell them y'all need to come to this church where it's a crazy preacher and then when they walk in and see me they say you the crazy man anybody i ask who drinks or is drinking and i ask them what's the favorite gospel song nine times out of ten they're gonna sing this song right here so if you like this song that doesn't mean you drink it means you used to no i don't no i don't i don't i'm sorry i want to come back i'm sorry i'm sorry and there's so well song take a deep breath because i promise you're getting ready to go to church with me immediately now don't not sing it with me because you think i'ma think you used to drink let's go and have a good time all right hit the wheel
