amen well let's open our Bibles to first Peter chapter 5 first Peter chapter 5 we of course are still in the third and final section of the book dealing with the grace of God and suffering it began in chapter 3 verse 13 and will conclude here in chapter 5 now last time we were together we looked at suffering as a Christian we call it religious persecution well as we come to chapter 5 Peter continues to deal with this theme of suffering so let's pick up our reading in verse 1 and we'll read down through verse 7 in our time together 1st Peter chapter 5 beginning in verse 1 the elders who are among you I exhort I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed shepherd the flock of God which is among you serving as overseers not by constraint but willingly not for dishonest gain but eagerly nor as being lords over those entrusted to you but by being examples to the flock and when the chief Shepherd appears you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away likewise you younger people submit yourselves to your elders yes all of you be submissive to one another and be clothed with humility for God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God that he may exalt you in due time casting all your care upon him for he cares for you now in the previous section in chapter 4 Peter dealt with our suffering as Christians or the church here Peter refers to us as the flock of God so the idea is in light of us as the flock of God suffering for our faith in Jesus Christ Peter is now going to highlight two things in light of that true first of all he's going to deal with shepherding in verses one through four and second he's going to deal with submitting in verses five through seven so let's take a look at this first section of verses one through four as Peter deals primarily with the leadership of the church because he knows how important it is that we have strong Christian leaders in the church in the body of Christ when we as the flock of God are suffering when we're suffering persecution and affliction for our faith now in verses one through four in dealing with this idea of shepherding Peters going to give us five things there are five things that we want to look at in light of Peters exhortation number one first of all let's take a look at who Peter exhorts who Peter exhorts that's in verse one in 1st Peter 5:1 it says the elders who are among you I exhort now the word elder press Pateros excuse me one moment hmm see I didn't slurp that time Sally goes Clark every time you take a drink you like slurp and it's so loud and obnoxious I know but that's just me that's why I wear Levi's that way I don't need napkins after I eat No sad but true now the word elder that's used here pres Pateros used 67 times in the New Testament simply means older it could be speaking of someone who is older physically or someone who is older spiritually depending on the context in which it's used now since Peter is dealing with the flock of God or the church he of course is talking about spiritual leaders those who are involved in the leadership of the church we might say we call them elders now in Acts chapter 20 in verse 17 Paul sent for the elders or the church leaders in Ephesus to come to my leaders and elders typically hold at least one if not more of the four offices that are mentioned in the church in the body of Christ that are outlined in Ephesians chapter four verse 11 there's apostles prophets evangelists and pastor teachers a single office we might say now just as a side note there's a couple other leaders in the church that are not mentioned here but of course are mentioned in Scripture and one is the bishop now the word bishop or a Pisgah possibly means overseer it's mentioned in first Timothy chapter 3 verse 1 talking about being a bishop if a man desires that office it's a it's a good thing now down in the middle of verse 2 of 1st Peter 5 he mentions the word over seer now the word overseer is closely related to the word bishop it carries the idea of one who inspects or oversees something else we also call them pastors now the word pastor can be used for elder and/or bishop because the past or the bishop oversees the flock they watch over the flock they feed the flock protect the flock and care for the flock now the elder in a sense speaks of who they are they're older spiritually whereas the bishop speaks of what they do they oversee but of course both offices often are used interchangeably now the third leader in the church we might say is the deacon or the Dai IKONOS it speaks of the waiter it's the same word used back in Acts chapter 6 when the widows were not getting their daily distribution of food they picked Stephen and a few others to be the diaconis the Deacons or the waiters if you will so typically elders bishops overseers Shepherds pastors typically minister to the spiritual needs of the flock of God whereas the Deacons we might even say uh sure's typically minister to the physical needs of the flock of God however those two areas of service are often interchangeable it's not all of one and none of the other because oftentimes the elder the bishop the pastor is involved in the physical aspects of helping people as well as the Deacon the ushers involved in the spiritual aspects of helping people so both of course overlap quite a bit so that's who Peter exhorts let's come to the second thing we want to look at and that is the why why Peter can exhort them why can Peter exhort these elders these church leaders well according to verse one there are three reasons why number one he is a fellow elder there in verse 1 he says to the elders who are among you I exhort Who I am a fellow elder you know this is pretty subtle but it seems pretty important why well because Peter is calling himself a fellow elder in other words he's just one of the guys which is pretty important because in Galatians chapter 2 verse 9 the Bible says that Peter is a pillar of the church he's one of the top dogs the Big Kahuna and yet Peter did not put himself above them he didn't evolve or 'ti over them he simply mentioned that he is one of them and you know that blesses my heart he puts himself on the same level as everybody else and you know that's one thing I so appreciated about the example that Pastor Chuck said you know when we went to Calvary Chapel many many years you know Sally got saved at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa under Pastor Chuck Smith in nineteen hundred and seventy-six and we subsequently taught Sunday School there for many many years and you know the one thing I remember about Chuck he was just one of the guys just one of the guys he was out doing everything the rest of us were out doing helping serving ministering praying sweeping cleaning you name it he was doing it and that's one thing I love about this with Peter he's a fellow elder number two the second reason why Peter can exhort these elders is because he was a witness of Christ's sufferings and boy he certainly was he witnessed the sufferings of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane in the courtyard of Caiaphas at the cross of Calvary but the third reason is because he is a partaker of glory according to the end of verse one it says and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed now Peter talked about this in chapter 1 verses 4 and 5 he mentioned it in chapter 4 verse 13 he understood that one great grand and glorious day he would be with Jesus Christ and as we put all of this together at the end of verse one I think the point becomes pretty powerful because it points to and speaks of the fact that Peter had a very close personal intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and boy what a great encouragement that ought to be for all church leaders to get into that deep intimate personal relationship with Jesus Christ well let's come to a third thing we want to look at and that's the what what Peter exhorts them to do now what Peter exhorts them to do is found in verse two it's to shepherd the flock of God which is among you serving as overseers now here in the beginning of verse 2 Peter deals with two people first of all he deals with the shepherd he says to Shepherd the flock of God now the word Shepherd POY Moreno used eleven times in the New Testament means to over see to watch over and of course that's what a shepherd does he watches over the flock he tends the flock he loves the flock he nourishes and feeds the flock that's the job of a Shepherd which I found very intriguing that Peter uses this wording here why because back in John chapter 21 after Jesus was raised from the dead after the resurrection you remember Peter and some of the disciples were in the Galilee and Peter said hey I'm going fishing and they said okay we'll come with you so they went out in their little boat they were fishing and Jesus was on the shore and he says hey you guys catch anything they said no nothing's biting well throw your net on the right side you remember the story they caught 153 fish Peter recognized it was Jesus he just in typical form jumped out of the boat into the water started racing to shore everybody else brought the the load of fish in and after the breakfast Jesus turns to Peter in John chapter 21 in verse 15 he said Simon son of Jonah do you love me more than these now that demonstrative pronoun these is neutered he's saying do you love me more than men and do you love me more than these fish in other words do you love me supremely do you love me more than the people in the world are the things of the world and Peter answer said yes Lord you know I love you and Jesus said feed my lambs and then he asked him a second time do you love me said yes Lord I love you he said tend my sheep and the third time he asked him he said yes Lord I love you said feed my sheep and here Peter is pointing to and speaking in in first Peter chapter 5 the importance of being a shepherd and he got that from Jesus Christ himself because that is the job of a shepherd as it pertains to the Sheep why well because sheep are very dumb and stinky is it no wonder the Bible refers to us as sheep over and over and over again you know she can't care for themselves sheep can't feed themselves in fact sheep are so stupid they often wander off and get lost quite often is it no wonder in Isaiah chapter 53 verse 6 it says all we like sheep have gone astray look we've all turned to our own ways so one job of the Shepherd is to feed the flock to nourish the flock to take care and oversee the flock and this is one reason why we play such great importance on teaching the Word of God because God's Word is food for the Soul God's Word is what nourishes us and empowers and strengthens us to grow because the food of God is is well it's what we all need in our lives now the second person he deals with in verse 2 is the flock the flock he calls us the flock of God now this becomes pretty significant because we are the flock of God now unfortunately a lot of pastors they think that somehow they are the shepherd over the flock at and in one sense they are don't misunderstand but one thing a lot of pastors don't realize is they're still sheep they're still sheep in fact in verse four that'll become incredibly apparent when we talk about the chief shepherd more on that in just a moment and unfortunately these elders these bishops these Shepherds these pastors think that somehow they're in charge when really God sent you in fact Jesus said he told Peter in Matthew chapter 16 verse 18 I will build my church he didn't say Peter I want you to build your church no it's not our church it's God's church we are all the flock of God and these elders these bishops these Shepherds these pastors these overseers are simply lead sheep and we'll talk more on that in just a moment it just grieves my heart when I hear pastors well-meaning pastors on the radio or just in general talk about well my flock well at my church I just cringe when I hear that because you know if we say that long enough we begin to believe it that somehow they are my flock somehow it is my church no in fact I had a fella come up to me recently said Clerk how's your church going I said listen it's not my church and you can't blame me for it I have no control over those people whatsoever look this becomes a pretty important issue number four let's take a look at the how how Peter exhorts them to shepherd now in verses two and three Peter exhorts them to Shepherd the flock of God by way of contrast and there are three of them the first contrast is there to shepherd the flock of God not by constraint but willingly according to verse two they're not to constrain the flock they're not to coerce you compel the flock they're simply just to serve the flock willingly and unfortunately a lot of pastors put a heavy trip on us they lay a guilt trip on us if we're not serving enough if we're not tithing enough and they coerce us with this heavy-handed Roach to serve more to tie the more to church more and unfortunately that's the exact opposite way that things should be done number two the second contrast in verse two is there to exhort these Shepherds regarding the flock of God as it pertains not being dishonest not for dishonest gain but eagerly so how are Shepherds to Shepherd the flock of God well not for dishonest gain but they're to do it eagerly or fervently or enthusiastically we might say but not greedy you know if you want to get rich don't become a pastor unless you got big hair in a gold chair neither just saying number three number three the third contrast is not lording over but being an example look at verse 3 it says nor is being lords over those entrusted to you but being examples to the flock you know Matthew chapter 20 verse 25 jesus said the same thing he said the Gentiles like to lord over them but let it not be so among you we're to be examples to the flock man we're to lead by example we might say which is very intriguing because in Israel and and by the way we had three or four people have to cancel for the Israel trip in February because of situations that came up I think one was a hell thing and another was the job thing so I think there might be three maybe four spots open for Israel in February but if they're gonna go quick just let me put it that way but when we go to Israel oftentimes we'll see sheep it's very common but what's more intriguing is you'll see two kinds of shepherds you'll see the Israeli shepherds who are out in front of the Sheep and behind the Shepherd is a sheep a lead sheep typically with a Bell around its neck and this one sheep the lead sheep is following the Shepherd and the rest of the sheep are following that sheep that lead sheep but then you'll see other shepherds typically the Bedouin Shepherds there behind the sheep they're driving the Sheep and they've got staffs and they're smacking the Sheep and there's dogs who are biting at the heels of the Sheep boy what a contrast and here we see what an important thing it is to be an example over the Sheep now in a very broad sense listen mom dad grandma grandpa employee-employer all of us are to be an example to the people around us and whether we know it liked it understand it or not we're all setting an example to someone somewhere at some time so the question is what kind of example are we shared are we setting I think I shared this story with you about my granddaughter who's 16 now but when she was a little girl I took her to Walmart we would shop up and down the toy aisles and I would sell her that she could only have three toys well two and a half hours later up and down these aisles I mean it's just something we did it was fun we finally decided on three toys and we made it to the checkout stand and and I had a gal come up to me she said hey pastor Clark I said hi she said I've been watching you I said well that's creepy she said no I've been watching you with your granddaughter how you've been interacting with her and what a great example you see friends people are watching us whether we know it or not and we need to set that example you know I heard a pastor say a good leader leads by example and you know on the surface that sounds pretty good but I think it misses the mark because the real question is what kind of example are we setting so a good leader leads by a good example that's why Paul said in first Corinthians 11:1 follow me as I follow Christ well let's come to the fifth and final thing in this first section dealing with shepherding and that's the reason behind the exhortation what is the reason behind these Shepherds exhorting the flock of God well it involves a reward look at verse 4 it says and the chief shepherd and when the chief Shepherd appears you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away boy what a reward what a great reason behind this exhortation to Shepherds to shepherd and watch over the flock of God because there is a reward there's the crown of life and what a beautiful picture that paints for us we know carefully class how Peter addresses Jesus Christ in verse 4 he calls him the chief shepherd and again it's a beautiful picture of the shepherds in Israel as the Shepherd is OUTFRONT he's the chief shepherd behind him is the lead sheep that all the rest of the sheeps follow and Jesus Christ is the shepherd the great Shepherd of us the flock the body of Christ now this paints another interesting picture because in John chapter 10 verse 11 Jesus is called the Good Shepherd because he died for the Sheep in Hebrews chapter 13 verse 20 he's called the great Shepherd because he lives for the Sheep here in 1st Peter 5 for he's called the chief Shepherd because he will come for his sheep and when Jesus Christ comes for you and comes for me man there's a reward it's the crown of glory well back to 1st Peter chapter 5 let's come to the second and final thing we want to look at we said there were only two first section dealt with shepherding now the second section and you might not like this it deals with submitting yes the S word I said it it it deals with submitting the word submit or submission Hoopoe tousle it's used 40 times in the New Testament is a military term Hoopoe means under tousle means to arrange it speaks of being put under or arranged under the authority of someone else and therefore it's used often of the military however this is not the first time that Peter deals with the issue of submission back in chapter 2 verse 13 he tells us that we should submit to the authorities that are over us in chapter 2 verse 18 servants are to submit to their masters in chapter 3 verse 1 wives are to submit to their husbands in chapter 3 verse 7 husbands are to submit to their wives and here in verses 5 through 7 Peter deals with two more people to more people as it pertains to submission let's take a look at him individually number 1 first of all he deals with young people young people look at verse 5 it says likewise you younger people submit yourselves to your elders now this is subtle but the word likewise points us back to the previous section and even though it's not specifically mentioned the idea the inference is that these under Shepherds the elder the bishop the pastor the Shepherd are to be submitting to the chief Shepherd Jesus Christ as mentioned in verse 4 so that's the idea so all of us as it pertains to the leadership of the church we might say is to be in submission to the chief Shepherd likewise verse 5 you younger people submit yourselves to your elders now why Peter mentions young people specifically well there's a couple of thoughts number one some think that he mentions younger people because us us older we understand the importance of submission and being in submission to the authorities that are over us and of course to our chief Shepherd so that's one thought however the other thought is and probably the more accurate thought and when he's talking about those who are younger he's talking about those who are younger in the Lord regardless of age so all of us as sheep whether we're a new Christian or were an older Christian we should be in submission to those in authority over us specifically the elders according to verse 5 or the church leaders we might say so this points to and speaks of the fact that we as people in the church should be submitting to the leadership of the church you say Clark are you sure that's a thing oh yes it's a thing in fact in Hebrews chapter 13 verse 17 the writer says obey those who rule over you and be submissive for they watch out for your souls so it speaks of submitting to the spiritual leadership we might say in the body of Christ now in addition to that in 1st Corinthians chapter 16 in 1st Corinthians chapter 16 verse 15 Paul said I urge you brethren you know the household of stephanas that it is the firstfruits of a ki a ki B in the Grecian Peninsula where Athens and Corinth are located that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the Saints that you also submit to such and to everyone who works and Labor's with us so clearly we as the people in the church should be submitting to the leadership of the church and I believe that is one reason why we have so many churches which is a good thing by the way because all of us have different ideas about things we have different visions different directions and different ideas about this that and the other and that's glorious it's one and I think the point is if our vision if our idea about this that or the other doesn't line up with the vision and the decisions that a local church is making that's okay because chances are there's another church out there that we can fall in line with so there doesn't need to be an uproar there doesn't need to be dissension and division because we don't agree with this vision or this direction we might say because there's a variety of churches we can go find where we fall in line with that vision or that direction now obviously if we're going to a church that is not teaching the Word of God who is off-base doctrinally as it pertains to the essentials of the historic Christian faith yes we go to them we talk to them we open the Bible and try to explain to them where they're off-base now if they listen praise God if they don't listen well you know that's on them we just pack up our bags and head out capisce back to first Peter chapter 5 let's come to the second people that are mentioned here we said there were two as it pertains to submission number one involves young people number two it involves all people according to verse five all people in the middle of verse five it says yes all of you be submissive to one another so everyone who claims to be a Christian is to be submissive if you will and Peter in verse five gives us a couple things about submission number one and quite obviously it involves others it involves others it says yes all of you be submissive to one another were to submit to each other back in Ephesians 5:21 Paul said were to submit to one another again in Romans 12:10 where to put give preference to one another now this becomes important because one way we submit to one another is by putting the needs of that person above our own needs that's the example Christ set for us by the way read Philippians chapter 2 verses three through five Jesus submitted to the will of the Father as it pertained to the cross for you and for me just like we relinquish our once in our wills for other people by putting them first therefore but in effect we're submitting to them and and it's back to Philippians chapter 2 so one thing involves others but the second thing involves humility humility look at the middle of verse 5 in 1st Peter 5 it says and be clothed with humility or a lowliness of mind or having a humble opinion about ourselves not thinking more highly of ourselves than we ought we might say and when we close or wrap ourselves with this kind of thinking we subsequently will submit to one another now in verses 5 through 7 in the rest of verse 5 through 7 Peter gives us four reasons why we should be humble note them carefully class four reasons why we should be humble reason number one involves resistance resistance in verse five it says God resists the proud god boy does anybody understand what we're talking about do you see how flap my forehead is right here it's from feeling that resistance of God because pride says I'm going this way and God says oh no you're not pride is the antithesis of humility and God resists the proud and I personally believe I could be wrong but I personally believe that pride was the first sin in Ezekiel chapter 28 in the Garden of God or the Garden of Eden the Bible says that Satan Lucifer was there perfect in all of his ways until iniquity entered his heart and that iniquity that sin that entered his heart according to Isaiah chapter 14 verses 12 through 14 was pride because there we have the five I wills of Satan when Satan said I will rise above the throne of God I will be I will I will I will and God said we know you won't kicked him out of heaven according to Revelation chapter 12 verses three and four kicked him in a third of the Angels out of heaven so it would seem that pride was the first sin is it no wonder God resists the proud but the second thing second reason why we should be humble involves grace look at the end of verse five it says but obviously God gives grace to the humble so one way we receive God's grace is through humility now the word grace a familiar word it's the word Kairos used 156 times in the New Testament means unmerited favor getting what we don't deserve and we understand grace in light of two aspects of our life first of all we understand grace for eternal life right Ephesians 2:8 and 9 were saved by grace through faith it's a gift of God not of works lest any man should boast Romans 3:24 says we're justified freely by grace so we understand grace for our eternal life but there's a second aspect of life we need God's grace and that is for temporal life we need the grace of God for every moment of every day in life in Acts chapter 20 verse 32 when Paul was there in my lead as ministering to the Ephesian elders he said I commend you to the grace of God which is able to build you up how are we built up well I ran around the church twenty-seven times well I handed out 475 tracks hey are you kidding me we're not built up by what we do we're built up by the grace of God and unfortunately very well-meaning pastors and church leaders say well look you need to read the Bible every day you need to pray you need to go to church you need to tithe and they're correct by the way these are good things don't misunderstand but these are not things we do to become built up excuse me I'm so sorry this is the result of being built up when God's grace builds us up the byproduct the result of that in our life is we will want to go to church more pray more serve more tithe more you follow me we always put the cart before the horse here's another area we need God's graces for obedience Romans 1:5 we've been given Grace and Apostleship for obedience unto the faith hey this is an important time does anybody desire to be obedient to God okay three of you over here good the rest are dismissed I guess problem is we try to be obedient in our own strength in our own effort we try to work real hard at being obedient and we might pull it off for a short period of time but pretty soon we run out of gas we throw up our hands throw in the towel and call it quits here's another area we need in Romans chapter 5 verse 2 it's to stand God's given us His grace which enables us to stand I mean you ever get up come to a point in your life where you just can't stand it anymore you say Clark I'm about at that point with you right now it's God's grace that enables us to stand yeah I'll never forget a heading out to the my truck in the parking lot after service felid stopped me and he said you know pastor I'm just at a point in my life where I can't stand to come to church anymore I said well I'm sorry I have that effect on people and he said no no it's not you it's my wife and I we always end up Sunday morning getting up everything's working out great and pretty soon I say this she says that we end up arguing and by the time we get to church man we're just full-blown fighting I'll never forget he said you and Sally fight on the way to church I said you know we do not he said Wow what's your secret I said well we take separate cars we never fight on the way to church it's just glorious here's another area we need God's graces for Thanksgiving second Corinthians 4:15 Paul said all things are for your sake that grace having spread through the many will cause Thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God how can we give thanks in every situation even even if we put it in category bad even though it seems dangerous and destructive devastating to our lives how can we say god I thank you even for this how can we do that oh it's by the grace of God 2nd Corinthians 4 I will never forget when Sally got diagnosed with cancer right after the birth of our second child I mean I was a little mad at God because she was gonna go home to be with Jesus and I was stuck with these two Rugrats and I was very jealous and I'll never forget she she had that verse on the tip of her tongue she said Clark all things are for our sake and Grace having spread through the many will cause Thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God able to give thanks and you know almost 40 years later she's still with us amen what a blessing here's another area we need God's grace to live godly Titus chapter 2 verses 11 and 12 the grace of God has appeared to all men bringing salvation and teaching us to deny worldliness to lit what to deny ungodliness to Donuts for both you girls to deny ungodliness that we may live soberly righteously and godly in this present age amazing we needed to serve God read Hebrews chapter 12 verse 28 we needed to establish our hearts Hebrews chapter 13 verse 9 look the scriptures are replete we need the grace of God as it pertains to our temporal life number three the third thing or the third reason why we should be humble involves exaltation exaltation let's just read verse 6 it says therefore humble yourself under the mighty hand of God that he may exalt you in due time James 4:10 says a similar thing humble yourself in the sight of God that he will lift you up so one reason for humility involves exaltation but don't miss the fact in verse 6 James deals with three different aspects of this first of all note carefully we are to humble ourselves did you catch that in verse 6 it says therefore humble your self we need to humble ourselves you know Jesus said in Luke chapter 18 verse 14 if we exalt ourselves we shall be humbled and the point is listen gang if we don't humble ourself God will and he don't mess around let me just speak from the cauldron of my own experience you want to humble yourself you don't want God to Humble you because he will take you down to the very bottom rung believe you me so number one were to humble ourselves but number two in verse six were to be humble before God before God James 4:6 says we're to humble ourself in the sight of God here were to Humble under the mighty of God in other words we've come to a place in understanding that God's in total control and no matter what we're going through or dealing with God knows what he's doing therefore we submit to his will his wants and his ways but notice also as it deals with exaltation we're to wait for our exaltation it says that he may exalt you in due time God's gonna exalt us in his time I hate that I would just assume be exalted right now right here amen to be lifted up and exalted but you know what it's all gonna be in God's time and the problem we often have is pride thinking we should be lifted up and exalted right now right here but humility says Lord you might never exalt me this side of glory but I know one day when I get to heaven there will be that exaltation well number four and finally and let's wrap this up right here we said there were four reasons we should be humble resistance grace exaltation and number four anxiety here's the fourth reason we should be humble it involves anxiety look at verse 7 it says casting all your care upon him for he cares for you now verse 7 is directly linked to verse 6 and this idea of humility because the idea is if we are truly humble before God we're gonna cast all of our care upon him all of our anxiety the word care comes from the root word murids oh it means to divide to separate and the idea is because of our situation because of the circumstance we're going through our mind our heart is divided it's separated between what we hope will happen and what we think might happen and because of that divide in our heart and or our mind regarding our situation we're filled with anxiety what does anybody understand what we're talking about look we lay in bed at night and we think about the next day and we think man I don't know how this is gonna work out I don't know how the doctors are going to fix this physical problem I'm dealing with this might be all there is this might be the end or we think man I don't know how that situation at work is gonna happen I mean I I'm in debt I owe this and and if I get fired man it's gonna I mean wow and we become anxious full of anxiety ultimately that's pride but when we exhibit humility we step back and we cast all of our anxiety on God why well because he cares for us that's amazing to me I'm surprised God even likes me let alone cares for me I feel that way about you too by the way and yet he loves us all he cares for us all and all he wants us to do is humble ourself not just for our eternal life but for every moment of every day in life and Lord we are so grateful for these few short minutes knowing that Lord you care for us and Lord we pray that by your spirit by your great grand and glorious grace Lord you would enable and empower us to be those who well Lord simply understand that you're in control and you're gonna orchestrate your perfect plan in your perfect will even in spite of us and we thank you for that truth and we do so in Jesus name Amen amen shall we all stand together if you need prayer today for anything at all be sure to come on up after service the pastors the brothers the sisters will be up front to pray with you to pray for you and I do pray that this week would be a week that God would bless your hearts and strengthen your hands oh how I pray that he would do a great and mighty work in your lives as you go forth from here is that vessel that he would choose to use as we think about Thanksgiving coming up this week and by the way we always have Thanksgiving right here at the church so if you don't have family in the area maybe you don't have food be sure to come on out or maybe you got a lot of food and and you want to feed those who don't be sure to bring some food out and come on out this Thanksgiving Day Thursday every year we get a big bus and we go down to Camp Pendleton and we pick up 50 Marines who are stuck on base first time you know still in boot camp they can't get home so we bring them up here and love on them and minister to them and feed them and then take them back to Camp Pendleton at the end of the day so it's a great time together so if you want to stop by this Thanksgiving this Thursday but until then God bless y'all I love you so much have a great week in the Lord
