hello guys welcome back to my channel in this video i'll be comparing quesmed and pass med which are two of the most popular question bank resources for medical school i'll be comparing them in seven different areas which i'll list here and you can also skip to them using the time stamps below before i give you my final verdict so let's get straight into it the first thing is pricing because let's be honest as students like i don't know about you but we're kind of broke so we need to budget and consider pricing so that we know we're getting the best value for money so quesmed is actually more expensive for 12 months it costs 40 pounds whereas on past med for 12 months it costs 25 pounds and they do have shorter plans as well so they have a six monthly plan question also has a monthly rolling plan but just to make the comparison like for like i'm using the 12-month plan because that's what most people go for anyway if they're revising for the whole year quasmed do actually sometimes have special offers you know such as an easter if you use someone else's code i don't actually have a code because i'm not being sponsored by either passmid or quesmet to say any of this so but try and look out for codes that sometimes gives you twenty percent off i've never seen passmed codes but quizmed always have codes floating around somewhere so don't pay full price for it if you can find a code next thing i thought i'd talk about is the quality of the actual questions so quesmed is more expensive but do you actually get a better experience so let's start by talking about pass med first it's got a very simple interface where you see the question you put your answers you click show answer and it shows you the explanation as well as the textbook notes on that topic that's very useful and it does the job question has a similar layout and in that you do the questions it shows you whether you're right or wrong however it has explanations for each one of the answers why they're wrong and why the right answer is right now what i've found is that with quesmed the explanation seems to be a bit more consistent so there's enough explanation for each option whereas in past med you can have really lengthy and good explanations for some of the questions and on some questions you have like hardly any explanation at all so you're like why is this right or wrong one thing pass med does do better is the comment section because it's gone on for a lot longer there are more comments and sometimes these comments can be helpful because people post you know mnemonics and ways to remember things whereas while quest med also does have a comment functionality because quest made as a platform is a lot newer there are fewer comments and so less useful information in the comment section as a platform quest med itself actually looks a lot nicer so if you're interested in ui how things look it's a lot more responsive it also has a mobile app which passment doesn't and if that's important to you that's something to consider however they both have the same basic functionality and if all you care about is good quality questions and rather than the experience then you should be able to kind of look past the ui design to actually see whether the questions are good or not which i'll talk about later on in terms of the textbook so that's when you get a question wrong and it has a little explanation at the bottom with the notes on the topic i found that the past med notes are a lot more concise and up-to-date and easier to read than the quesmed ones like both of them have you know accurate information but quest meds one is just a bit harder to read or to pick out certain stuff i've literally found the past med notes a lot more concise and a lot easier to read and a lot more user-friendly so to speak than the quesmed one like for some reason the quesmid one just seems like it's been you know commissioned and just made as quickly as possible whereas the past ones are actually decent so i suggest if you're learning things for the first time and you really need to read the textbook to understand things and learn things then pass med is a better bet to start off with your knowledge rather than relying on the quesmet textbook which i in my opinion is you know needs a lot more improvement compared to the past med one now in terms of how many questions the platform have passmed has over 7000 and they keep adding questions day in and day out so this number just keeps going up and up and up at the moment quasmed has fewer questions so they have five thousand something i'll put the numbers in the screen so you can see and they also do update their questions regularly and keep adding on to the question bank as well however it's not all about the quantity which questions are actually good does a higher number of questions actually mean more quality questions so what i've found is that in general the ques med questions tend to represent my exams a lot more than the past med ones some of the past med questions are just a little bit too easy in a bit one step which requires just either pattern recognition or a quick recall of a simple fact whereas the quest med questions are a bit more multi-step you need to know let's say what the diagnosis is and then it will ask you about the treatment it requires a bit more thinking and therefore the questions are a bit more challenging on ques med which is what my exams are like so the way i kind of use that to my advantage because i've got both memberships is that for pass med i'll use it to learn the content to make sure i know stuff but when it comes to exam focused revision then i prefer to use quesmed because it represents my exams a lot more your situation might be different depending on what medical school you go to passport might be more representative of your exams however for my med school which is ucl the quest med questions are a lot more representative of my real exam and so those are more useful for exam revision one thing that quesmed also allows you to do is filter questions by how hard they are so you can there's an option when you're building the question to select core questions or challenging questions or very difficult questions whereas past month doesn't have that option so all the questions are kind of mixed together so you might get an easy question and a hard question or an easy question and you have no control over that whereas with quest med you can select to choose only the core questions to make sure you've covered the core topics before you then study the niche topics so another thing to mention is tutorials and extra things so with quest med they also have tutorials either sba tutorials or you know lectures with people explaining things that's something that pass med does not offer past med is solely just you know questions in a question bank whereas with in terms of resources quest med has a lot more of their own resources whilst doing the question password does have a little section on the side which links to external resources such as youtube videos or articles and things but to be honest i never use those because i can just find the information that i'm learning on the textbook notes or just google it myself and in terms of extra features so both platforms have this sort of spaced repetition flash card type functionality on pass med it's called knowledge tutor basically select the list of topics and then it asks you to select a fact so that's actively testing your memory and then in question they have this thing called quest cards which is kind of like anki cards where it will show you something and then you have to think about the answer and then you can review the answer and then based on whether you get it right or wrong it will keep showing you that more frequently and if you get it right it will show you that less often because you already know the information personally i don't use either of the knowledge tutor or the quizmed quest quest cards i just you know i use my own anki cards so i don't feel the need to use those maybe they're useful maybe they're not i don't know but that's just something that's worth bearing in mind if that's something that you are going to use so in terms of my overall verdict if you want a one stop show stopping answer just tell me which one to go for i'd say go for quesmed but if you want a bit more explanation then i'd say you know with quesmed yes it's a bit more expensive but it also has a mobile app you can filter questions based on how challenging they are which is very useful for me both platforms also have this timed test option where you do a certain number of questions first before you see the answers however i found that the quesmed platform is a lot more customizable in terms of what topics you choose whether you see questions that you've done before or not and because they are a lot harder questions and represent my exam that's why i'm concluding towards quest med however in actual fact what i'd suggest doing and what i do myself is use pass med for learning the knowledge because the question is a lot more more straightforward in one step and then when it comes to exam focused revision then i'll use quesmed but if you just want one then go for quesmed it will be a good option and so i've hoped this video has been useful in helping you decide which question bank platform to go for if you're new to my channel my name is abby and i'm a final year medical student studying in london i also have a newsletter so if you're interested check that out in the description if you're new subscribe to my channel like this video thank you for watching i'll see you again in my next video
