[Music] hey guys it's Nina welcome back to my channel welcome if you're new so I wanted to do a follow-up to the video I did a few weeks ago on my experience with Dave Ramsey I talked about how I did his Total Money Makeover for six months I was in baby step two of the process if you don't know what the baby steps are I will link them below so I'm happy to announce that I am starting a new channel that is going to be all about my financial journey my journey of getting to debt freedom on the Dave Ramsey plan so I will link to that below and if you're interested in following me on that journey I strongly suggest that you go to their channel I don't have any videos on there yet I will be doing them soon this channel is just about my hair and my life and some other things and the financial journey is very specific and there's so much more that I can hold from that thread so I want to take that somewhere else it's called sweet as money I'll be doing budget planning talking about my mistakes with credit cards doing grocery hauls for one just showing all the ways that I'm using my money and cautionary tales about how I'm used my money a lot of those of you who watched a video were really supportive and just understanding of where I was coming from and commiserating with me in a lot of areas some people were really harsh and just kind of like unnecessarily mean and to those people I would just say I go to a therapist and I find that it really helps me so it might help you too so if you haven't watched a video I strongly suggest that you go back and look at that because I'm really not gonna rehash everything that I said there but in the video to make it clear I was specifically talking about baby step two of the process there are seven baby steps baby step two is when you pay off all your debts smallest to largest arguably that is the hardest part for people that is the longest most intense part for there is a stuff where you pay off your home but at that point you're already debt free you know you have your emergency fund you have everything in place so it's not as intense as baby said to Dave is very clear about not wanting you to have a life in baby step two and he constantly says in baby step two you should not see the inside of a restaurant unless you're working there he is very specific with his instructions on not having a life so I understand that part that is probably the most controversial step of the entire plan because you're putting all your extra money towards the day you're not paying into retirement everything is about the debt I understand very clearly thank you so I did that video during the holidays I was off work for basically two weeks I was just at this point where I felt like I had worked really hard for the past several months and you know I just wasn't doing little things that I wanted to do for myself and I just felt like you know what I'm not gonna devote my entire life to paying off debt now my total plan to pay everything off he totally debt-free was two years and no that's really not a lot of time in the grand scheme of things one important thing that I meant to say that would have given a lot of context to some of my feelings in the first video is that I have lupus which is a chronic autoimmune condition I'm 33 and I'm interested in having children at some point just for my health and all that it's gonna be best for me to do it sooner rather than later and the concern with me devoting two years of my life to paying off debt was just you know how is that gonna affect my ability to be a mother at some point but I also do know that putting myself in a debt-free position is gonna be best no matter what whether it rains or Shine's you know whatever goes on with my health you know whether I have a child being debt-free is only gonna help that so it's really just about getting around the anxiety of being in this precarious position in my life and knowing that there are things that I want and just having to make certain sacrifices and that is actually something that I'm working on with my therapist just focusing on what's happening right now because what's happening right now is that I'm healthy I'm able to work 60 hours a week I'm able to do a lot to prepare myself for the future you know I'm single right now I don't have any dependents except my plans all I got a whole bunch of plans but I am in a good place in my life where I can really make some changes and I also do feel mature in a lot of ways that I didn't necessarily feel you know when I was in my 20s so I'm grateful for that and I'm not gonna sit here and act like oh my gosh I'm ancient and time's up for me and I'm never gonna have the things that I want because really I don't want to live it for your based life I think you know regardless of your beliefs your faith or whatever living and fear constantly is not good for you and I don't think that you have to be debt free to have children because really like who is actually debt-free and has kids like I'm not looking at it as a prerequisite to having kids but it's more so that I just I have a time to do it honestly so why not do it I really think that the holidays were having a big impact on my mindset just not really feeling motivated so go full force ghazal intensity scorched-earth after the new year hit it was kind of like it was weird it was just like a switch went off a switch flipped and all of a sudden I was ready to work again I was ready to you know to jump back in because the thing is I really did enjoy the work I talked about in the first video of how I was doing louver eats working 60 hours a week and I actually did enjoy it it was very energizing it was tough I'm not gonna add like every day was just amazing but it was very rewarding like seeing the progress that I was making and so after the New Year head it was just like you know what I think I can do this again like I'm finally going back to work I can just think about work more I'm happy to say that I am getting back on Dave's told him money makeover I feel like it's really something that I want to do for myself Dave talks about saying no a lot and there are a lot of things I will say no to but I feel like in this time but I'm gonna be doing this plan there are some things I can say yes to that I can plan for budget all of that and I'm not gonna stress myself out about it I'm not gonna make myself feel guilty I'm not going to kill myself to try to pay off my debt because ultimately I want to be here to enjoy it you know enjoy the debt-free lifestyle just make sure that I take a step back whenever I feel stressed because I felt like that was something that I didn't really do in those six months just take a step back for a second I felt like I had to work work work work work constantly and for some people that works I love to work but I still need time to rest so let me talk a little bit about where I am today so as of right now I have about $48,000 and that includes student loans a car note credit cards and tax bill please please PLEASE pay your taxes first a lot of people in the mindset that oh I'm giving up you know 25 to 30% know you're keeping 75% okay and the next debt in my snowball was to pay off my car note so in December my car note was a little under five thousand dollars and I paid about half of that but I decided that I wanted to get Invisalign it's something that I've wanted for years and I've always just talked myself out of it because of the price within like I've spent thousands of dollars on credit cards you know for stuff that I can't even remember nowadays I decided to just go ahead and cash flow my Invisalign for the new year so with the payment that I made on my car it basically paid it up through April the money that I would have been putting on my car payment I'm putting towards my Invisalign that's how I'm cash flowing it and I have a whole plan to pay off the Invisalign with by March so I'll pay that off and then in April I will jump back to paying off the car and then in April I'll jump back to paying off the car the maturity date for the car is October if I jump back to paying off in April I will still be paying off early and also I just want to make a little note about using credit cards to get points and rewards and all that kind of stuff some of you ask me like why would I use a credit card if I had the cash and that was the answer so that I could get cash back cash back is a joke okay and this is what Dave talks about like let's be real this is what he talks about nobody ever gets rich off their credit card rewards airline miles whatever so I had to make a down payment on the Invisalign which was 2325 I had the cash so I said let me just go ahead and put this on the card so that I can get the cash back from this it should be pretty nice right the total cash bad for a two thousand three hundred and twenty five dollar transaction was $40 less than one percent in the grand scheme of things I will not be doing that anymore because it's just really not worth it and before y'all attack me in the comments I know this is what Dave talks about and it's not a matter of me trying to beat the system or trying to game the system but it was just me thinking okay well I already have cash I know I'm paying this off let me go ahead and get the extra cash but really it's it's just not worth it so that is all for this video thank you so much for watching once again I hope you will follow me on that channel I will link to that below and thank you so much for watching
