'Parents should have the final say': RFK Jr. on LGBTQ Issues and What’s Taught in Schools

a big boiling point topic especially here in South Carolina is lgbtq issues you know gender affirming care for minors gender identity being taught in schools elementary schools as well as biological Men playing in women's sports I think a lot of what I've seen from from other candidates it's become an Applause line of sorts in regards of gender identity being taught in schools where do you stand in regards of schools teaching that especially for the younger grades I first of all I don't think that um had people who were born biologically male should be playing women's sports in in the women's sports which are competitive Sports which may lead to a career or to scholarships Etc if somebody wants to play in a pickup game you know that that's fine with me but not in sports where there's consequences to it my my uncle Ted Kennedy was the author of Title IX which finally you know forced colleges to give recognition and opportunity to women's sports I have a and he worked very very hard to get that through and it just doesn't seem fair that a man can walk off a baseball field or a basketball court onto a woman's Court and take up those positions well I have a niece now who's playing softball at BC um she worked her whole life for that position she she didn't come on ski vacations with my family she didn't come on summer vacations with the rest of her family because she was practicing baseball softball all summer and for somebody to be able to walk on that field and take that spot away from her is just wrong so it's not something that I will uh would support on in terms of Education the schools education should be decided by the parents they should be involved and I think what happened during the coveted epidemic or the coven lockdowns let me put it that way um is there a lot of parents were for the first time watching what their kids were learning at school and they were looking over their kid's shoulders while they were reading the material and they became alarmed by some of the things which were contrary to their values now I think anybody who is a transgender I'm people who have who've made choices about their lives um should be respected they shouldn't be shamed they should not be made second-class citizens and they shouldn't be made to feel bad about those choices but I also think that parents need to have the final say about what's taught to their children in schools
