Years ago I joined a punk band after a about 15 years of not being in one. I was super nervous, the guitarist was a metal head with long hair and a marshall stack, the drummer is intimidating as fuck and has a Neil Peart level set, has toured with some heavy hitters and could play pretty much anything punk (fast, dude could not play slow lol). I show up with my Squier bass that I bought off the guitarist (how we met) and cheapo pedals and we do the awkward warm up routines while also showing off a bit, testing the waters of what each other is in to. Then the guitarist randomly starts playing the opening riff to this song, I perk up, the drummer starts given'r, I start playing the riff, we get to the verse and just start making it up, but the drummer is playing and screaming the lyrics in a cracking voice without a care in the world. We had a good laugh and I was sold on joining the band. Still jamming today
Their older albums hold up really well and their last one is one of my favorite pop albums.
I've always dreamed of seeing them live. Last year I turned 26, wasn't happy in my marriage. Watching a live version of "26" from the After Laughter album had me in tears, cuz she was crying, and idk it just felt so raw and emotional. Turned out she wrote it bc of a divorce she went thru at the same age.
Honestly watching that video and the heartbreak I felt for myself and for her is what really helped me realize I needed out, and now I'm almost 27 and I can say my life is a lot better. I've loved Paramore since my teens but man, even their later stuff is really hitting home for me too.
Here's the live vid I mentioned: https://youtu.be/Ck74xd8DlmE
I still cry when 26 comes on sometimes cuz holy fuck
"Hold onto hope, if you got it. Don't let it go, for no body They say that dreaming is free I wouldn't care what it cost me."
Manβ¦ this song HOOKED me when I saw them at Warped Tour in 2007. I had never really listened to them before and I was blown away by this orange haired singer with an absolutely incredible voice. Hayley is so good live and Iβve been a fan ever since.
