hello pilots of the internet and welcome to foldable flight in this video i am teaching you how to make mighty eagle designed by zion who is the winner of the foldable flight paper airplane designers contest this is just an excellent excellent glider now really quickly before i get into the tutorial let me tell you that my book is currently on sale on my website so that the bonus template bundle is just 20 and the book itself is 15 if you're going to get a book this year now is the best time to do it that sale ends at the end of cyber monday and you also want to stick around to the end of this video because i will be making an announcement regarding all of the other finalists from this contest as you can see mighty eagle is a beautiful paper airplane with really really wide wings and that's what gives it such a great glide ratio it is very simple to construct as well so if you are watching this video i am confident that this is a plane you can fold it has this nice fin in the middle it looks great on its own but as promised i have designed a template for this plane this is available to all of my patrons on patreon.com foldable flight so if you want to fold your plane and make it look like this head over there and sign up and now i'll show you the plane in flight and teach you how to fold it [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] all you will need in order to fold mighty eagle is an eight and a half by eleven or a four sheet of paper and we will begin by folding this right edge to the left edge and now with our right edge as the folded edge i'm going to take this top edge and fold it to that right edge and my crease should go right through this top right corner of the paper and once i've done that i'll flip the paper over and fold this edge now to our left edge which is the folded edge and now i can open this paper up into this orientation and i want to fold this top point down to just about an inch above the bottom of the paper it doesn't have to be exact just any estimation of close to an inch should work and that's for eight and a half by eleven or four a4 sheet of paper and now with the paper like this you can see we have this point where our center crease intersects the top edge i'm going to fold from that point to this outer point right here and the layers are kind of thick so you can work to kind of roll them into place before placing your crease and that will help you to be a bit more accurate like so and now i'll do the same thing on the left side and your plane should now look like this next i'm going to fold this top point down and you can see we have these layers here and we're imagining the point where this layer is intersecting this center crease and that's where i want to land my point here anything close to that's going to be fine this does not have to be exact and again we're i'm just kind of rolling my layers because they're so thick that's helping to prevent the paper from wrinkling too much and it's going to help me to be more accurate and you'll notice these outer points right here are especially going to fight you and you can kind of work on them exactly as i'm doing here as you hone in that crease that helps to prevent your crease from curving helps to prevent your layers from wrinkling too much now you can see we have these bubbles in the paper i'm going to sweep out like this just to flatten that i'll do the same thing on this side just to take a little slack out of the paper and now i'm going to fold this point up here just high enough to cover this point and maybe a quarter inch past that and that's going to lock our layers together now as we fold it oh sorry as we fold it in half like so you can see that holds the layers tight to the plane and next i want to fold the wing of my plane and the crease is going to go from about here to there on the back i want this crease to be parallel to the center crease of my plane and it's going to cut through this triangular tab not go above it and again i'm just kind of rolling those layers until i find exactly where i want to place my crease and i'm making sure that this edge here lands on this edge right there and that's making sure that my wing crease is going to be parallel to that center crease okay and now i'll flip that over and fold this wing to match okay and now i'm going to fold winglets where uh i'm just folding this edge up a little bit and this window is going to be about half an inch wide once i fold one i can flip it over fold the other to match and now i'll open the plane to this orientation here and i want to fold from about this point here halfway between this point and the back edge of the plane to this point here where the wing crease intersects the back edge of the plane this doesn't have to be exact you can see i actually maybe went a little ahead of that midpoint and that's totally fine and now when i open this back up i'm going to poke this and basically this crease here is correct but this crease here needs to be reversed and i can kind of pull that triangle up like so and now my fin pokes out the middle of the flame now you can see that these wings are a bit wider front to back than the wings here and this is folded from a4 proportion paper this is folded from eight and a half by 11 inch sheet of paper in either case you're going to need to add quite a bit of up elevator to the wings and i like to bend from this point here all the way to this point here kind of like so and that creates this whole surface becomes an elevator that's going to help your plane's nose stay aloft help prevent it from diving and that's how you get that really beautiful glide ratio that you saw on the flight test for this plane now with that good luck flying but first stay tuned for an important announcement now i've been paying very close attention to all of the comments surrounding this contest and by far the most common question is kyle will you please create video tutorials for all of the remaining finalists and yeah i'm gonna do that because honestly i received so many excellent submissions in this contest that there could have been i mean at least 10 deserving winners and certainly any of the finalists would have been deserving winners as well and many of you might have even voted for a plane other than mighty eagle so to do justice to all of that i will be creating a video tutorial each week for the remainder of this year starting next week with artemis so thank you to everyone who participated either by submitting your own design or by voting to determine the winner this has been a wonderful contest and stay tuned for much more wonderful content from it
