hey what's going on guys and welcome to the video now as you may already know today's video is going to cover the paint correction and ceramic coating from the farm mustang gt that you recently saw on the main channel so let's take a quick look around at the car and then jump right into it all right so like i mentioned in the main channel video this car has been used on the farm recently and now that harvest is done it's time to get this beautiful car all cleaned up and once it is i can get all the scratches and swirls taken care of and get this car ceramic coated but just before we get started take a second and make sure you're subscribed to the channel and that you've got the bell on so you never miss out on a future video all right so with a thorough pre-wash rinse of the car done and a careful two bucket hand wash complete i'll get the car dried off and then it's time to decontaminate the paint and to do that i'm spraying on some quick detailer to act as a lubricant for the clay although you can also use soapy water and do this when you wash the vehicle i just prefer to actually see what i'm doing so i do it after now rubbing the clay over the paint and it's going to safely pick up any surface bonded contaminants like iron contamination road grime tree sap tar that sort of thing and this step is critical when you're going to polish paint as you want the paint perfectly clean before you start running a machine over it spinning at a few thousand rpm [Music] [Music] so as i work my way around the vehicle with the clay you'll notice it picked up what i would say is a fair amount of gunk and how dirty the paint is will obviously depend on the environment the vehicle sees and if you didn't already know detailing clay will come in varying levels of aggressiveness just like sandpaper does so i generally prefer to use a mild clay since it won't ever cause any marring but if you do choose to use a more aggressive clay be prepared to have to follow it up by polishing the vehicle using mild clay allows you to do this as more of a maintenance thing every few months when there's no need to polish afterwards now with the vehicle clayed i can grab my swirl finder light and inspect every inch of the paint to see what i'm dealing with and you can see there's a ton of scratches and swirls here and because i don't know how this paint will react i'm going to need to do a test spot to find the optimal product and pad combo so once i have my polish and pad combo selected which in this case is microfiber cutting disk and grios garage correcting cream i'll get a strip of tape down on the hood and start working on a roughly two by two section making nice slow passes in each direction and then once i'm done i'll have a look with my light and inspect the results [Music] now having a look and i'm really happy with the results as 99 of the defects have been removed and in terms of selecting the right combo when you're doing paint correction the goal is to find the least aggressive combo that will give you the results you need it would be super easy to just hammer it with an aggressive polish or even a compound and cut the clear coat down really fast however the problem with that is that modern clear coat is extremely thin i'm talking thinner than a post-it note and when you polish you're essentially removing a layer of clear coat to level it out in order to remove the swirls or scratches so in order to prolong the life of the clear coat you always want to remove only as much clear coat as is necessary and one thing to note is that if you're ever working on older paint or don't know the history of how much the vehicle has been polished just use a paint depth gauge to measure the thickness of the clear coat so that way you can be extra sure you aren't going to burn through the clear but knowing the vehicle here hasn't been polished before it's unnecessary and in terms of how much paint i would be removing doing a polish like this the four to six passes i'm making would take off maybe three to four microns of paint so on most vehicles you'd be able to polish many many times before ever coming close to burning through the [Music] clear [Music] now working my way around the vehicle going section by section and you may have noticed i always start by spreading around my product over the section with the polisher around speed two to three and then i kick it up to about five to six and i'll make anywhere from four to six overlapping passes in opposite directions and in terms of pressure i am putting a little bit of pressure on the polisher but not too much as the key is to let the polish and pad do the work for you you might also notice i have a little black line drawn on my backing plate and that's just a visual cue to me so that i can always make sure my pad is spinning because if it's not the black line isn't moving and obviously i wouldn't be polishing anything [Music] now if any of you guys are inspired by watching this video and want to try polishing your own vehicles paint the grills grad 6-inch polisher i'm using here is a great choice as it's relatively inexpensive and has served me well for years now so if you're interested the links to the polisher the backing plate and the microfiber cutting disks that i use are all down in the description for you [Music] now satisfied that the paint is absolutely flawless now and there isn't a swirl to be seen the next step is to remove any polish residue that might be remaining on the paint and this is usually referred to as an ipa wipe down and again this is a critical step as now the paint is corrected i need to make sure it's perfectly clean so the ceramic coating can properly bond to it and this is a pretty simple process here as it's a product you just spray on wipe it over the surface and then remove it with a second towel [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right so here's the ceramic coating that i use and that's car pro c quartz 3.0 uk edition and i've used this on quite a few of my customers vehicles including my own raptor as it's definitely one of the more highly regarded ceramic coatings on the market and these come in 30 mil or 50 ml kits this one being a 50 mil and then you also get the applicator block and some micro suede cloths and for those of you who may not know what a ceramic coating is they are a semi permanent glass coating and are pretty much the best option in terms of paint protection as they typically last anywhere from two to ten years and provide the vehicle with a ton of gloss hydrophobicity self-cleaning properties uv protection and more scratch resistance as the coating is harder than the vehicle's clear coat is and if any of you like to keep your vehicle looking its best this is a product i would very highly recommend and is in fact something you can do yourself along with the paint correction so if you're curious i've got the link to the coating and nearly every other product and tool that i use down in the description for you [Music] now after applying the coating on a section of the vehicle i check with my light to see when the coating flashes which can be a difficult thing to notice and how long that takes is going to vary depending on the air temperature and humidity but once it has i just simply wipe off the residue with a microfiber towel and i'll actually end up throwing the couple towels that i use in the garbage when i'm done because when the coating that's in the towel dries and hardens it will basically be like shards of glass in the towel and it will not be safe for any sort of use on a vehicle [Music] [Music] oh [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] now in case any of you are wondering when i did all this if you've already seen the main channel video well it was before i started on the interior and that's because the ceramic coating needs a full 24 hours after being applied to fully cure before i can give it back to the customer since it needs to stay completely dry over that time frame so rather than risking giving it back early and the customer accidentally getting the paint wet causing all sorts of permanent spotting on the coating i always make sure to build in enough time so it can fully cure [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] yeah pretty well that is i was gonna say that is insane how much of a difference that means yeah there's less dust in there now so yeah no kidding as you see when i originally got the car it wasn't even that clean again so it's a nice change yeah for sure that looks unreal thank you i'm a little sad you have to take it away it was kind of it was it was plenty to work on yeah not the usual type of vehicle i see so all right well uh that wasn't awesome appreciate it yeah absolutely enjoy it all right guys and that is going to wrap things up for this video i hope you enjoyed getting to see the pain correction and coding side of things as it's not something i get to show you very often so if you enjoyed the video make sure you hit the thumbs up button subscribe to the channel if you haven't yet enjoy the guitar outro and i'll see you guys in the next one [Music] so [Music] oh
