PACK MY HOSPITAL BAG WITH ME | what i'm bringing as a first time mom

[Music] hey y'all welcome back to my channel if you're new here my name is emma and for today's video i decided i would pack my hospital bag with you i love watching these videos honestly i enjoyed watching them before i actually got pregnant these videos were so interesting to me i don't know why and obviously now that like that's the stage that i'm in i have been watching them like crazy so i kind of wanted to make my own obviously do i know what i'm doing no absolutely not i've never given birth before so i don't know all of the right things to pack i'm just packing what i've kind of gathered from like i said all of these videos that i've watched there's lots of like checklists on like pinterest and things like that just hearing the other mom's advice birth is obviously a whole new experience for me and i'm a little bit anxious about it as most women are i'm sure um and so i kind of wanted to pack things that would make me comfortable things that i think might be useful for me while i'm in the hospital i am a homebody i don't enjoy traveling i don't enjoy staying in hotels or airbnbs i actually really really don't like it i love being home and i really hate like sleeping in a bed that's not my own so i'm trying to pack things that will make me feel like i'm at home trying to pack comfortably maybe i over packed maybe i under packed i think i did a pretty good job um at being realistic with what i need and not like over packing the whole suitcase before we get started because i'm already starting to ramble if you're new here my name is emma i'm so glad that you're that you're all caught up i've kind of packed these things not really i've kind of just like shoved everything in a bag in the corner so i need to like really organize it anyway and like go through my list and see what i have so this is like a very purposeful video for me let me know if there's anything that you suggest that i don't show in this video or anything that you're like uh maybe not so i have two bags i have a duffel bag um also a lot of people have like these really beautiful hospital bags or diaper bags and i'm gonna be honest i just thought it was kind of ridiculous to go buy a bag to take to the hospital that was pretty so i just used what we had i used my husband's duffel bag because it would be bigger than like a backpack and it doesn't seem like as insane as a suitcase you know so i've got a duffel bag for me and michael's stuff and then i have our diaper bag and this is full of all of our baby girl stuff so this is our diaper bag i don't know if it's a i think it's supposed to be a diaper bag i don't think it's just a backpack because it has like these specific compartments that like tell me i think it's supposed to be a diaper bag oh this is for bottles because it's like insulated so i think this is a normal diaper bag i'll link it down below i have heard that you don't really need to bring a lot for baby because or even for like me postpartum because the hospital has a lot of the stuff so i tried to keep that in mind but at the same time i didn't want to bring nothing and then i don't like what they give me or i don't know i brought a little bit like i'll just show you i have a handful of diapers um like five diapers it makes me a little bit anxious to have zero diapers in here so i have a few but not very many because i know that the hospital has some for us also i already showed you this left side pocket has some wipes um again we'll be using like the wipes that the hospital gives us but then you know when we leave on the way home i don't know just so that they're there and then in terms of stuff for her i really don't have that much let's look at her outfits first because you know like outfits are super cute i packed a pair of socks and a pair of these little like hand mittens so that she doesn't scratch her face this is mainly for um when we go home i'm assuming that the hospital might give us baby socks but i have heard that they're really big so i packed these mainly for when we're like leaving the hospital because it's going to be december it's going to be cold i want to make sure she's really warm i also packed one little pj onesie just i don't know you guys i know that they give you i don't know that they give you clothes i think they just give you that like blanket i don't think they give you like baby clothes so i packed just a really warm basic little onesie to sleep in um just to have will we use it i don't know maybe not but at least i have it i also have her announcement picture like outfit i haven't quite decided if i want to take her announcement picture um in this little outfit or if i want to do it with like this really pretty swaddle and a bow so i'm kind of just bringing both um so the little outfit that i have that's so darn cute is this little uh i i'm so sorry i say little to describe everything because everything is so teeny tiny to me i'll try not to do that the rest of video this is from amazon and then these little pants are from i said little sorry these pants are from h m but they're they are little okay they're little i just thought that this outfit would be so sweet together whether it's her announcement picture or not i just think it's sweet and then this is her name plate which i'm obviously not going to show you but it matches and it's just very neutral and very pretty here's the etsy store that i got her name plate from it's beautiful um it has this floral design on the bottom it's super super pretty and it's like engraved it's beautiful i also have this cute little black bow to put with it maybe or i also have this yellow bow but i don't know if the yellow i kind of like the yellow i don't know not really sure um but i like this outfit so i'm gonna pack it um and then my other option is it kind of has the same tones now that i'm like looking at it all together is this beautiful swaddle from copper and pearl this is the only swaddle that i'm bringing because i know that the hospital has like blankets and swaddles for us um so this is the only one that i'm bringing to swaddle her in just in case i really dislike it or honestly even if i just use it to take her picture it's worth it it's fine um and then again i think with her name plate and then i would probably use this pretty yellow bow i just think all of that looks really beautiful together so this might be her announcement picture might be in that outfit not sure but i wanted to have all of it just to be safe we're gonna pack all of this up and all of this has been washed as well and then i have one more outfit for her and this is her going home outfit again it will be december so i wanted to pack something that's super warm this is a little set from h m so i've got just a basic um like just like a carter's onesie gerber just a basic newborn onesie and then this h m sweatsuit set how sweet but also very very warm i have a little black hat to go with it it doesn't match perfectly but just so that she has something warm on her head when we're leaving so two outfits and one pair of pjs it's not that bad right all right then the next thing this is something that i'm definitely still debating because i've seen mixed opinions on this um and then i attended this like childbirth class at my actual hospital and they said that they recommend if you are wanting to breastfeed to not utilize these at your time in the hospital so i'm not sure i might bring them just in case it's some pacifiers so i packed two pacifiers this is the first clip and then this pacifier is from itsy ritzy and this pacifier is a phillips avent pacifier so i brought both because i wasn't sure which one she would prefer or want more um but i've like i said they kind of said in that class that if you're wanting to breastfeed not to use a pacifier when you're in the hospital because it'll you know be confusing um i think i might bring them just to be safe because i don't know you know what's gonna happen with breastfeeding i don't know if it's gonna work for us i think i'll just pack them just to be safe um and then these two now that i'm like looking at them i don't know if i really need them in my diaper bag um the first one is they're kind of the same thing it's kind of why i'm debating the first one is this the copper and pearl yeah copper and pearl and it's a nursing cover so you like put it on over your head and you can nurse but it's also a car seat cover so my thought was i can use this when i'm nursing and i can also put this over her car seat when we go outside and it's december and it's freezing however i also packed her baby blanket for the same reason mainly for the car seat so that when we leave i can kind of throw this over her car seat to keep her warm but now i'm like i don't really feel like i need both i don't know you guys i don't really know why not you know let's just bring both because i have the room i'm really doing i think i'm doing pretty well this is the last thing for baby girl the rest in this bag is for me but it's specifically like my post-partum cake i've got three things packed again i know i know that they're going to give me things but i what if i don't like it um i've just heard lots of mixed opinions the first thing that i'm bringing is this earth mama nipple butter um i have heard i have heard this is really really really great especially if you're breastfeeding obviously and so i just want to have this just in case um and it's just like this it kind of looks like vaseline i also packed this berry bottle i know that the hospital gives you some but they don't they're not like angled like this so if you know this is for lucky you and then the last thing is some good old dermablast i don't know if they provide this for you at the hospital or not i hope that they do that would be wonderful but if they don't i've heard this is great but i think that's it for her stuff um and then i'm also bringing my boppy which again i've heard mixed reviews about the reason i'm deciding to bring it because one it's helpful when you're trying to figure out how to breastfeed for the first time to have this to support you rather than like you know once you're better and more experienced at breastfeeding it's not a big deal to shove like a normal pillow or do it like without a pillow but when you're trying it for the very first time as a brand new mom it's very overwhelming and so you want every ounce of support you can get so i'm going to bring this for that but also i've heard it's great to sit on when you're like coming home from the hospital i'm trying you know to recover and so i'm bringing it and if i don't use it then i don't use it i have not quite decided if i want to bring pillows for michael and i or blankets i've heard both ways i just don't want to be that person that's like walking in and looks like they're moving in but at the same time like i said i want to be comfortable i don't like hotels i don't like not being in my own room and if my own pillow and blanket is gonna help me feel comfortable like it's probably worth it i just don't want to log all that in and look and everyone look at me and be like girl come on clearly we got a first time mom over here you know it shouldn't matter but to me it does all right so some stuff obviously we will have to just throw it in our bag as we go for the most part we're pretty packed i'm a planner and i need things like ready and prepared so i have as much ready as possible i was watching a hospital bag video and they were saying that their first their first baby they didn't pack their toiletries or or their makeup their chargers anything like that that they used every day which like you would think makes sense but she said they spent so much time while she was in active labor before they left to go to the hospital running around trying to remember all the things that they needed to repack and i don't want to do that i think it was melania ciciati now that i'm thinking about it which i love her i'm pretty sure it was her and she was pregnant with her second kid and she said she went out and bought this second time around because she had learned extra toiletries extra chargers all that kind of stuff to just keep in that bag so that when she went into labor all they had to do was get the bag and go to me that makes more sense and gives me more peace of mind knowing that there are very very few things i have to grab last minute so i have started doing my makeup every day out of this little baggie um this has all of my everyday makeup essentials in here obviously i'm gonna need my makeup until i give birth um every day i use it so this way when i go into labor um i can say grab the pink bag on my desk if i'm not personally at home and somebody else is getting the bag for me or i know it's already in this bag i just have to grab it and go i may not even want to touch makeup when i'm in the hospital but it's good to know that like i have it with me if i do i also have this bag full of my toiletries so i went to target kind of like what malena said and i bought travel sized stuff of everything that i would need in the hospital so that i don't have to worry about all of that um i have some body wash i have two new toothbrushes and some toothpaste so we don't have to worry about that because obviously you're going to use your own toothbrush until then um i have some shampoo some deodorant some body lotion some face wash and face lotion and i also have face lights which i don't use these to remove my makeup i use like a micellar water whatever you call it but that just sounds like something i'm not going to want to do in the hospital i also have i don't know if you can tell it looks a little bit over focused or overexposed but it's the tula rose glow and get it i s this is a brand new one it's like a little stick that you put under your eyes i use this daily and i'm obsessed with it and i'm not this isn't sponsored but i have worked with them in the past this is like my favorite product of all time and i it's very like cooling and brightening it feels amazing under your eyes and i can just imagine needing a little pick-me-up and like wiping my face off with one of these sticking some of this under my eyes feeling so refreshed i made sure to get a little vaseline chopstick will i use any of this stuff i don't know maybe i'm just gonna be disgusting mess for two days and that's totally fine but i just want to know that it's here in case i need it oh and then i also hope this is really random i also packed a scrunchie because this is something i would never remember to pack i'm gonna want in the hospital scrunchie whether it's to wash my face or because i'm just feeling you know flustered and hot i'm gonna want my hair on my face so i packed a scrunchie which sounds very random but i know that if i got to the hospital and i didn't have a scrunchie or something to pull my hair back i would be so upset that is it for my toiletries um next is super random so we'll just do this i purchased some they're either 10 feet or they're six feet um phone chargers because i've heard this so many times over and over and over again that this is like a hospital bag necessity and i for the longest time was like i'm not buying a 10 foot charger i think that's stupid but i decided to because one i am not going to want to be scrambling to remember my phone charger when i'm in labor kind of like what i said earlier and two my husband is a nurse he works at the hospital and he's kind of confirmed that makes a lot of sense because of where they have like plug-ins i went ahead and got it um and then i also have some of the little cubes coming in the mail from amazon i'm just gonna pull random things out i've got some compression socks um i've just heard these are really nice to have in the hospital when you're feeling super swollen after birth and everything so i thought i might as well pack it and then i also have two pairs of fuzzy socks one pair of just regular thin fuzzy socks and then these are like those really thick slippers um slipper socks these are my favorite and i just think these will be great i also have this sports bra which i'm only showing you because i'm obsessed with it it's the audin brand i'm obsessed with these sports bras they are the best it's all that i wear anymore um but i've decided that's what i think i'm gonna wear when i'm like in labor michael just added his stuff the other day so i haven't seen what he's packed yet he added some socks for him and then he has let's see how many outfits did he pack looks like he packed like three outfits which is kind of a lot um he packed some of his outfits so just like sweats and something to go home in so i will pack those that's it for michael michael didn't pack too much um i am bringing this is my my new best friend my robe this is from target um it's from the stars above brand it's so cozy it's very long it's so warm i bought this specifically for the hospital my thought is i'll wear like that sports bra i showed you and this robe and that'll kind of be what i like labor in i also justified it because it was kind of expensive it was like 40 45 and i didn't want to buy it at first this is going to be really nice postpartum like when i'm at home and it's cold and december and i am recovering and we're just kind of lounging all day i think this will be so nice i have this linked on my like to know it already i know i do i'm obsessed with it i cannot forget to pack that so we're just gonna pack it now because if i got to the hospital without it i would be really heartbroken i don't really know what i'm supposed to bring for me to wear i've got my favorite pair of joggers from old navy these are my absolute favorite and just like a big oversized warm sweatshirt i should probably now that i'm looking at it this is like a men's from target i should probably bring a t-shirt maybe i should go do that because if i'm hot that won't be that won't be fun so um let me go get another shirt grabbed another sports bra just in case that black one like if i labor in it if it gets all gross then i have a spare um and then with those camo pants i just grabbed this little maternity t-shirt so i'll throw that in there in case i get a little warm and then for my second outfit which one of these will be my going home outfit and now that i'm thinking about it i'm like do i really need two sweatshirts no i probably don't i think maybe i'll just bring one i'll just bring one i don't need two i'm gonna bring another t-shirt and then i'm wearing my other favorite pair of joggers right now these are all black they're from walmart and they're maternity so they're really really cozy and this is just like a big oversized t-shirt so i'll wear that and then i'll just throw the sweatshirt on when we're leaving to go home next i'm gonna bring some slippers i am not gonna pack these yet because i wear them all the darn time around my house i should probably pack them soon but i just can't give them up yet the very very last thing i'm gonna bring is my camera bag i even bought a spare battery to keep it's already fully charged and then i also have a spare sd card so i will edit this video and then delete all of everything off of my sd card and pack away my camera i do plan on filming kind of a birth vlog i'm going to be very honest with y'all i don't know that i'll ever upload it um i don't know if i just don't know what to expect i want it though mainly for michael and i to have not so that i can post it to youtube i just think how cool will it be to have like a little home video of our daughter being born and i just think it'll be the sweetest thing in the whole world to have all of that on camera so i'm planning on filming it don't know that it'll be uploaded that's it that's what i'm bringing to the hospital i feel like i did a pretty good job of keeping it a little bit more on the minimal side i wouldn't say it's like minimalist by any means but i mean if you think of anything that was a absolute must-have when you went to the hospital let me know in a comment down below what should i add is there any recommendations that you have um all that kind of stuff thank you so much for
