well hello there my name is Drew Brown and for quite a while I have had the absolute pleasure of helping some of you choose the right fountain pen and considering that I was thinking about fountain pen model popularity specifically which pens happen to be the most purchased within their respective price points so with the help of my co-worker Jeremy whose brain can actually count above 10. I'm ready to reveal the Goulet paint company's best-selling fountain pens in eight different pricing zones we are looking at the number of sales over the last 365 days and we are selecting a specific color but not a specific nib size starting off this adventure in the less than ten dollar category the light blue jinhao shark pen is the champ of the cheap at just 3.95 this pen was up against popular entry level options like the Platinum preppy and the Pilot Varsity so why is it popular well it definitely wins on fun points uh and is probably easy to drop it in your cart on your way to the checkout it also comes with a converter and while it's not like the best converter in the world it gets the job done four bucks converter shark okay next up is the 10 to 25 Zone and here we see the most sales going to the Diplomat Magnum in Prismatic purple the Magnum here is edging out the pilot kakuno the twisbee go and a bunch of caveco sports though I will say we do have a Us exclusive on this particular color the Prismatic purple so you know that's a variable still if you're wondering how a diplomat Canal sell coveco twisbian pilot here I'm going to tell you about the nib the Magnum itself is super light kind of plasticky feeling but the nib has been surprising writers for years because they get it on the page for the first time and realize whoa this is soft I just paid 24 for this steel nib pen and it feels soft like a little bouncy on my paper so the Magnum kinda has a little secret superpower here definitely worth considering it's one of those if you know you know pens okay we're in the 25 to 50 dollar price category now and it's getting competitive we're talking about industry Staples like the pilot Metropolitan the twisbee Eco the Lamy Safari the Lamy All-Star and the Legendary jinhao Dragon Pen no just kidding that no uh within this Price Zone we've got the Lamy Vista Black coming out on top this is a store exclusive so we're the only place in the world you can get this particular Vista so the exclusivity no doubt is playing a role in impacting our sales here but this is what we sell the most in this range so it's the same as the regular Vista but with a black nib a black clip it comes with a black cartridge which usually is blue and comes with a black you know accented converter so it does look cool the fact that it's a clear demonstrator probably helps to have it appeal to a wide variety of tastes and preferences I think right now the Vista black sits at the lower end of this price range currently selling for 34.90 which is a little more than the regular Vista but it comes with the six dollar converter so it's actually a few cents cheaper to buy this one if you're already going to be buying a converter I should probably buy one 50 to 100 dollars so I could tell you that this is price range is kind of competitive but it's not it pretty much belongs to twisby here at our store sure you've got Lamy Studios you've got some Conklin's conveco all sports but this is totally twisby's house for the time being and of those the 580 iris is what our customers choose to buy the most the iris plating on this pen was first introduced on twizby's vac 700R and yeah that became a crazy popular model so naturally twizby thought it was a solid plan to Iris safai Iris E8 add the iris Society to the 580 which is a more popular model and yeah that totally worked at 80 it's a stunningly beautiful pen that features an internal piston assembly and an inner cap within the cap that Seals Everything up really really well which is my favorite part about this pen or most wisbees when a pen seals well you just know that someone in manufacturing is really paying attention one hundred dollars to 250 our prices are going up and the range is increasing at a glance you can see that the pilot brand is very dominant here in this price range if you went to our website and sorted by this particular price filter you'll see that this is where some of Pilot's most notable pens exist the custom 74 the e95s the Falcon the vanishing point and then you'll see that there's one lobby pen that is pretty consistently up at the top that's right the most popular pen here is the incomparable Lobby 2000 in Black if you combine the sales of each color of Pilot's vanishing point the 2000 would have some cause for concern here but as it stands this Pen's popularity is channeled into this one particular color and that puts its in sales numbers far above the rest here you've probably heard of this pen before it's been in continuous production over at Lomi for over 55 years and enjoys a reputation for being both a reliable performer and an inspired design piece currently for sale at 223.20 you can also grab a rollerball or a pencil version if that's more your style one of the things I really like about this pen is that it maintains a heavy dose of style without sacrificing durability in any way I'm a bit biased though because this was my first you know big pen purchase but there are a lot of other people who would also be biased in the same way too so maybe it's just a fact long 2000 is awesome if you peek inside the 250 to 500 you know bucket you'll see that it's full of sailors this is most definitely the Sailor Zone and we know that sailor makes truly excellent pens but there isn't one individual sailor pen that can even come close to the pilot custom 823 in terms of popularity this beautiful pen is available in both smoke and Amber but the Amber version is definitely the top seller here by far this pen has always been popular but in the last several years it has really started to climb these days it's constantly a top seller no doubt due to the fact that the Amber and gold just look so good together but it's also a vacuum filler Pilots only back filler which gives it an immense ink capacity and it also has this 14 karat gold nib going for it it's large ish compared to other Pilots but not quite into the oversized Zone it's large enough to really showcase the beautiful imprint on that nib and you know that being pilot it excellence in writing consistency is a foreground conclusion I would be super surprised to see this pen get dethroned in this price range as we climb up to the 500 to a thousand range we're getting in to the luxury zone for sure here you start seeing things uh shifting into high concept territory you know pens that are heavily themed labor-intensive to manufacture or made from rare materials speaking of rare materials you'll probably know where I'm going with this how about a pen made from lava yes the uh the the top selling fountain pen between five hundred dollars and one thousand dollars is in fact the Visconti Homo sapiens Bronze Age one of the most popular if not the most popular Grail pen in this industry this pen is captivating if nothing else there's something about the design and the material of this pen that just draws people in and there really is nothing else like it I mean there are other non-volcanic resin Homo sapiens but the Bronze Age here has that iconic bronze furniture that has kind of become tied to this model's reputation this pen is up at 716 dollars and fills using Visconti's power filler which is effectively a vacuum filler comes equipped with an 18 karat gold nib stamped with a lovely design it certainly has that it factor that continues to Allure and I'd say that it's the lava but it's not like the acrylic version is the homo sapiens don't sell well but you know the lava definitely helps and here we are folks the final plateau in our climb to the top the best-selling fountain pen that costs over one thousand dollars let me set the stage a little bit for what we sell up in this range this is where rushi pins live urushi is a natural lacquer that is applied in layers to create a coating that is both sleek and durable what makes these urushi pens so expensive is that they have many layers many layers of arushi which all need to be carefully applied over very strict time intervals we're talking weeks months and via the use of traditional techniques that few possess oftentimes you'll not just see this lacquer alone it'll be joined by various styles of art incorporated into it hand-painted artwork inlaid abalone shell or eggshale eggshell I have a lonier egg shale golly inlaid abalone shell or eggshell all painstakingly applied by hand as far as our best-selling pen over one thousand dollars this one does indeed happen to be just plain urushi lacquer if you can call anything here plane the namiki yukari Royale in Vermillion at sixteen hundred dollars the Vermillion yukari Royale sits at a great place in terms of price I know hear me out the yukari the smaller version of this pen not the Royale can be purchased with all sorts of beautiful artwork laid into the lacquer but it's a tad more expensive than this one even though it's smaller if you wanted a yukari Royale like this one but with those designs you'll be spending over five thousand dollars it's like having the option of a six thousand dollar cookies and cream milkshake or a sixteen hundred dollar vanilla milkshake the cookies and cream is just vanilla with some sort of stuff right so just go with the vanilla I'm not saying that the extra stuff isn't worth the money it is but what I'm trying to say is that it makes perfect sense why the comparably plain Vermilion here is the best-selling pen in this range it's a good price all things considered it really is The Royale is a big pen and holding a large urushi lacquered pen just feels special it's made of hard rubber so it's not heavy but it does feel substantial and that nib wow it's a huge 18 karat gold with a gorgeous Mount Fuji imprint and that's our list thanks
