belize is full of cozy little islands called keys which bring plenty of opportunity to sail explore snorkel and swim in the azure caribbean sea we spent over six months sailing in belize and put together a list of our favorite islands to sail to so here's our top 10. [Music] kikoker located 11 miles south of ambergrisky is the second largest of the belizian keys the population is approximately 2 000 people the center of the island is known as keycocker village it has over 50 hotels and restaurants with affordable prices and has become increasingly popular amongst backpackers and other tourists it is known for its party and nightlife due to the nearby barrier reef it is a great location for scuba divers snorkelers and anglers the reef provides protection from large waves which makes it for an enjoyable anchorage if this is your first time in belize it is definitely worth the visit as it is easily accessible from san pedro and bali city however the consumer atmosphere isn't what we were looking for in belize mohoke is located 12 miles east of placencia also known locally as wild orchid key it is home to soft white sandy beaches and lush greenery including coconut almond oak and mangrove trees surrounded by blue-green waters and an incredible natural coral reef with a rich marine life and healthy ecosystem ideal for snorkeling diving and swimming there are no restaurants on bars you have to bring your own food and take your trash with you is the ideal spot for day trips or the adventures overnight camping you'll find picnic tables bar chairs loungers hammocks and grills there if you're looking for an authentic belizean of grid island escape the pelican keys about 50 nautical miles northeast of placencia lies a mangrove island called haiduki this private island is entirely covered by mangrove trees and owned by kim and dustin an american couple living completely of the grit twelve years ago they set out to build a cozy eco-friendly island they now call their home unlike all the other keys everything is built on stilts to stay in harmony with the original ecosystem there is no sand which means no sand flies walkways that wind through the original mangroves give you a perfect opportunity to admire the beautiful fauna and flora the island is full of red and black mangroves iguanas and hummingbirds they have one cabana for guests a house for themselves and a thatched roof open air bar with a restaurant which was built with help of the local mennonites and mayans passing sailors are welcome to enjoy drinks and delicious home-cooked food with the sight of the incredible stories by kim dustin and their daughter ama but make sure to go ahead tacky a very traditional and beautiful island lies right next to the cocoa plum resort according to a story we were told it was previously only mangrove island and was filled by hands by a group of guatemalans in the early 20th century all of the buildings have attached the roof hence the name tachki they offer traditional nights with roasting a pig underground having guests catch their own fish for dinner the guests can also take turns and hit the plantain in a bowl with a stick to prepare a traditional garifuna dinner at the end of the island there is a serenity point for yoga and massages ideal for yoga retreat our favorite thing about the island is the natural saltwater swimming pool where you can spend your day swim and relax in one of the hammocks previously called hatchet reiki is located 18 miles of placencia right on the edge of the belize barrier reef this seven acre island is a green eco-friendly self-sustaining private island resort where you get to explore and rejuvenate you can find all types of accommodation here from simple ocean from cabanas to luxurious honeymoon suites and villas with their own pools beach volleyball fitness and yoga studio fishing piers what we enjoy the most is the slide that goes right into the sea the snorkeling around the island offers a stunning view of the rich belizian sea life we were impressed with the food most of the produced served is raised in the organic garden it is a popular stock with yoders for lunch but a new guest only restaurant is coming it just got delayed by kovitt talking about unique take a look at king louis island resort it is the smallest of the keys we've been to in belize yet adorable it lies north east of placencia and takes about two hours to get there by sailboat it is close to the victoria channel where you can spot whale sharks this miniature island was bought by louis in 2015 and named king luis the king has built sea walls to stay protected and brought sand to give it the perfect look of an exclusive oasis it has four ocean view cabanas which enable you to wake up to stunning views of turquoise caribbean sea and fall asleep to the sound of waves gently caressing the shore the pirate theme including a couple of parrots gives it a unique atmosphere you won't find anywhere else surrounded by crystal clear turquoise water it is ideal for swimming 1961 hurricane hattie split it into three it is owned by a local family they employ belisian staff and take pride in offering first-class private romantic getaways ideal for honeymoons full of colorful cabanas surrounded by azure shallow water this place is simply stunning we went on a kayak around the island and took a hobby cat for a short sale around their food is delicious and we enjoy their signature cocktails at the pool this is a private island and they usually do not let walkings enter but you can try and call them in advance we were lucky to be able to visit it a couple of times ranguana our favorite key in belize to sell two is located 15 nautical miles southeast of placencia part of the muyona group they are proud of being eco-friendly every step of the way the tall
