[Music] [Music] alright I'm saying this right here right now okay I don't have any tuning software I'm applying the knowledge that I know from 19 years of GM tuning experience on how this somewhat works and what I can kind of get away with basically we've established that well we have a sucky intake manifold on there okay there's no doubt about that we wanted to get away from the heat zone where we probably cost us a little bit more power than I wanted to well lose however we have been able to manipulate the mass airflow housing and the fact that we have a much colder plug in the car and our fuel system so we should be able to control that plus if we want we can add 85 or not to be able to help control the octane we have a super good free-flowing exhaust all of these are good things that I know that we can get away with without spark knock on the video right before we started putting the turbo kit on basically we had established our baseline we know that we can go so far without any sort of spark knock and because we know that we can be able to throw at least eight or nine pounds of boost attic I think we can go for a little bit more I'm thinking more like leverage well we're gonna find out hey once we trim that that's gonna be so much better I mean it's super nasty loud but Wow it needs a muffler guys we are gonna put a trim ring on that and we're gonna trim that thing down about blush and final check on the coolant and the oil and we are ready to boogie our intake is referencing a fuel pressure regulator right there so that hopefully as we have a rising rate fuel so as we make boost we should be able to make more fuel pressure we are trying to be able to have a rising rate fuel pressure we're hoping and counting on that thing to be able to allow us to do some extra fuel we're just trying to see what kind of boost we have we don't even know what spring we have either we selected the two smallest Springs and kind of put them together we were kind of guesstimating it might be 7 or 8 pounds or so that's kind of our guests on some of the previous experiences with different waste gates that we've had before all right guys I can't say how much I am proud of these guys last George Josh we got an air Kragen that sent in some parts I mean guys from gearhead performance for really really hooking us up there were so many people that contributed in one fashion or another so we're so glad that this thing is finally coming together and man let's see what this thing makes alright we got more pits which is proportional integral derivative I can see the vacuum that we have right there we're not gonna really be able to read boost right now we have an issue with bank 202 sensor it's adding 30 some percent on that side right there so we might have a leak on that side actually that o2 is really little lazy if the o2 is lazy it's not going to be feeding back correctly pretty much like it has eight neo2 sensors like its immune system it as checks and balances so it's sending an improper signal and adding a crazy amount of fuel so and that is really responsive just watch a feel pressure and I'm gonna like gradually walk into it okay I'm gonna gonna watch air fuel and booze custom mounted boost gauge very classy we're gonna check this puppy out here [Applause] I didn't even check the booth see it so I just want to watch air/fuel first doing alright we're doing okay what did it make try and watch the beers here [Music] [Applause] during that last poll we don't know exactly where there was some sort of oil kind of blow-off I'm assuming it came out of here I don't know if we get to my cylinder pressure what we still have our PCV vented to atmosphere right there so that should be okay but that's really just venting upwards this right here we know we have a leak but it shouldn't be anything that sprays out all the pressure should be alleviated right here and on the other valve cover I'm gonna check the boost again we're gonna be able to see what we're at and see if we can turn up the boost that shouldn't be any sort of problem whatsoever but we just want to make sure everything is good and safe first you got some oil on the header okay hey man 315 I think we made five or seven pounds of boost so we're gonna cut down some fuel pressure and see if we can get the air fuel in the ballpark now all right we are fired up ready to roll looking good looking great what do you say our scavenge pump we actually left the the wire off that time kind of just forgot she's gonna clear out [Applause] [Music] I saw eight valves all right boost looks good air fuel looks better took a little fuel pressure out I'm right all right all right I'm ready to turn up the boost are you ready to turn up the boost let's turn up the boom all right so Georgia is fixing what appears to be a little bit of a leak on our mass airflow we're gonna see if it is or not it might have been sealed but it just seemed like it wiggled a little loose we're kind of giving everything a good shake down this is what we got here so far these are not the most impressive numbers but we are picking up solid power okay we've got a very good gain so far on a very moderate amount of boosts so we're up 99 horsepower right there at 5500 rpm and we most certainly can turn that up really we're just playing around with things because we don't have much control with the timing or anything like that I haven't my data logger has been really kind of spotty at best it doesn't seem like I've had a really good figure on the timing curve I expected to have 22 degrees it looks like we're getting maybe like 17 18 that's the first kind of full pull that we've done right there we went to right about just shy about 6,000 rpm so 329 horsepower 325 pounds see the torque let's go ahead and turn up the boost what you're gaining per pound a boost that is so so so crucial I don't know if you guys remember not this part does have 410 rear-end ratio and we are making poles in second gear now that's not loading the turbos that hard we might make a full a third year that should load the turbo harder [Music] [Music] seven pounds seven pounds of boots there I'm ready to turn up the boost are you what we're going to do now is we are going to change our reference basically we are bleeding off whatever we bleed off so let's just say we bleed off a pound and a half of our reference we gain a pound and a half in the end what we're gonna do is we're going to drill this out we're gonna create a on purpose boot sleep what that does that does actually mean this is just our reference we're gonna take one little spot and make a little hole yeah we're just making one little hole and if we need to make another one we'll make it either all the way through or what not know we'll see so we should be able to see a power increase right there we're just trying to control everything we've got a decent air fuel mixture everything looks really really really good there I'm actually gonna crank up the fuel pressure just a little bit just to be extra extra safe more boost and I'm having a hard time getting more boost out of this thing still running about the same power we got to get more boost get a groundhog in there oh I'm gonna get the red one here and let's see what this is all about being honest judge here come here and let me know yeah that is a messy toolbox after an absolute thrashing there is no doubt about that so we're trying to measure the gate pressure I feel that one right there it's pretty good good I think that's gonna be more you take four spin oh yeah right now hold on let's do this here this is okay so this is what we had so feel that unbiased opinion versus pretty much the same you think so hmmm let me see what you did there it's probably let's go all through alright go big or go home more booze take three we have the gate out and put it all back together on the bench and then kind of put it in a bowl so it was a rather time consuming not an easy easy task we were hoping it was going to be easier but just where the car is on the dyno is very difficult to get to [Music] all right see if we can get a view of what kind of boost that is I'm gonna be watching the air fuel air/fuel look good I couldn't watch the boost [Applause] [Music] then path alright that is 364 sour 342 pounds feet of torque at ha we're off the chart rich the reason we're not making as much power as the timing curve is very weak now I can't control that I only saw about 15 degrees of timing with the extra added basically deaf higher boost there isn't someone ever trade off the are gaining power of the two ten pounds alright so yeah right at ten pounds there all right we do have a leaning out issue up top there so we've reconfigured a few things I did add some timing we have picked up a bunch of bottom end torque however the top end hasn't really changed very much at all so let's add some fuel and let's try to add some more boost all right revision 3.0 here we have added some fuel pressure because we're kind of leaning out towards the top and we've opened up our boost holes on top of the fact that we've already changed the spring so that being said we're trying to make 11 or 12 pounds of boost you know again we're not happy with these numbers from a rat we've kind of come to the resolution that we might end up putting that old intake manifold back on there we didn't realize this intake manifold was so poor but hey we're learning here we're not for it guys so normally an aluminum intake manifold makes me want to run for the hills this thing is apparently actually flowing some some air flow so we'll see we can pick that up but right now again we're only dynoing in second gear we're just trying to shake this down I will have the software in the next day or two it has been a big ordeal to try and get the software data so bear with me this is we're doing the best we can data logging the best we can without actually tuning in we're kind of tuning it like this was an old TBI car that we have very very limited controllability I mean like this brings you back to the days ER it's like hey we're changing the fuel pressure and we're changing the timing mechanically that's pretty much kind of what we're dealing with right now so we're doing the best we can with what we got all right so we're trying to rule out some variables because we're not really happy with the power of this thing should be really thrown down much bigger power we've done all sorts of other things to try and gain boost and it's not really gaining boost the way that needs to so what we're gonna do is we're going to eliminate the intercooler maybe even do just a partial pole watch the boost see what it's doing I've done this before a number of times when the intercooler or the problem and sometimes have seen some major breakthroughs being it integral or just plain sucked so right now we're trying to eliminate that and go straight from the turbo right in right here so we're borrowing some stuff from old Georgie's turbo kit they got around Christmas and we're gonna see if we can make this work we're scabbing all this junk together here yeah okay I'm gonna level with you here I have no idea how much pressure drop we have in between that so we might do this and it might make twenty pounds I've no idea I just am not sure if that air-to-air is really really restrictive or not we tried to make sure that it wasn't we're gonna find out what it does I mean it's it's gonna pick up boost so I'm just gonna make a quick little hit and see what we see where we're at and see what happens [Music] oh my gosh the air temperature and run started at 111 and went to a hundred and fifty-eight just like that so we did make more boost and we did make a little bit more power but the air temperature is very kind of dangerous actually but with two more pounds of boost we didn't make anything really notable you made 340 torque well like 18 pounds e2 torque more in one little area so that's like it's not even not even worth it for two pounds food not air so the intercooler is working we just need more freakin boost [Applause] we're trying to make some freaking power here and this thing is fighting this it's a fort you know I just wanted you know we got the boost turned all the way up its we almost don't even have a reference on this thing so let's just see what this pig does [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] yeah I definitely need to rip it out it's just leaning it up man we're trying to do whatever we can to make that not lean up but Wow finally got up a little bit boost so finally I was like right at 12 pounds of boost but it's just a little bit lean side to let up let's try and find a way to make this work I was hoping to wrap it up there but so close come on [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay that's what we got 370 363 almost 364 pounds feet of torque so with a current set up what we have in second gear and I Granite's has four ten gears I keep saying this because if we had more it would load the turbo harder and it would make more power probably as much as 25 fours [Music] [Music] so guys we just did a quick third gear pull here and we picked up over a hundred pound feet of torque so that's kind of how the loading of the gearing is as well as in the four ten years that being said this is more in line with it you kind of expect but we should be able to make a bunch more still so again that was a quick third year pull and we just Arlene it's too lean so I can't make a pull I just kind of blipped into it we did hit 11 pounds of boost we made more boost more quickly and it's making a whole bunch more power there so it's got great potential we're just not there yet [Applause] and this thing both mounds ooh rats fair fight hell yeah man yeah [Laughter] when I dropped us then turn see how easy this girl does some burnouts [Applause] it's pretty good like like
