OUR KITCHEN RENOVATION | START - FINISH | Lydia Elise Millen

I come round to Lydia's house or it was an easy job and all she does is do my noggin if you weren't ready good morning everyone and welcome back to the blog it's Monday and it's weird because I wasn't like jumping out of bed this morning but I have had a productive day in the end but like not work wise essentially I mean I'm ahead on video so this is tonight's video just ready to go up anyway but we had like a little bit of like a move around basically and yeah I don't know it's weird it's weird but I've actually and another thing that's weird I'm actually filming like two vlogs today which is even weirder because it seems strange doing that but basically this vlog is obviously gonna be over a whole kind of week maybe even two weeks because we are starting our kitchen renovation today I thought we were starting it tomorrow but we that'll be the plumbers we got the call from our marble and granite guy that our new center Island worktops should be ready to go today so they're gonna come take the old one off we're gonna keep it and they're gonna look after it for us but we're probably going to like reuse it elsewhere in the house maybe in the gym or something like that it seems silly to just waste a really good piece of granite and we're having our new Caesar stonework top fitted to the center island because we didn't feel like we needed it throughout the whole kitchen because it seemed a little bit too busy so we've kept the outer units quite kind of simple and the same as they were quite understated and then we've gone for a really beautiful like Caesar stone Center island which will look really nice when it's painted dark and decorating starts tomorrow so I'll pop a link to where we get all of our kind of granite and marble work surfaces from they've done the whole house I'll link that in the description box down below so if you want to like to check those guys out but they're great the guy who owns it is really nice and just really easy to work with him so helpful so fingers crossed that starts today and then we've got Ken and Graham back tomorrow to start painting and decorating the kitchen but there's actually been a lot of progress in this I will show you that as well in this video but first of all got to show you something that we've been working on down here I'm currently my office by the way so if you remember what I was saying in my last vlog about Lainey oh hello nice they neither of them have ever got in this bed I spent a fortune on this bed squeezed in might recognize these tables from our living room I follow this amazing lady on Instagram I think I named Sarah Sarah Sarah Cote state I'll link her Instagram down below but she's got similar not the same but similar coffee tables to these and we didn't have a coffee table down here cuz I stole it and I actually really really like these with this sofa so we've cleaned them up giving them a new lease of life and brought them down here obviously they need to be dressed but as I was doing this Lumi came and uh made herself at home so we've left this room open which is something that we don't usually do this is obviously not related to our kitchen renovation whatsoever but I just thought I'd tell you about it because we're getting ready to kind of clear the living room because that's the room that we're doing next after the kitchen so yeah it's a bit of a dumping ground in there at the moment and we're just kind of making use of the furniture elsewhere in the house and this just works perfectly so when we get some like artwork on the walls here and this is all painted as well and maybe some new lights I'm not sure yet might keep these ones I'm not totally sure obviously we'll redecorate that later that's another like next year we can't afford to do that just yet so yeah basically we're starting on the kitchen today which is super exciting because probably spend most of our time in there so it's gonna be weird not having it kind of at our use for a week in a bit basically I'm especially seeing as we've got like family coming next weekend but it's going to be good to get it finally done which is really exciting so you've probably seen this room a lot on my vlogs but we've had a few changes over the last week that I haven't really explained to you so I thought it'd probably be a good idea to bring you up to speed on where we are with this room and what's happening and yeah just explain why everything's all of a sudden seeming like it's like full all systems are go basically so I have looked for a good new weeks I think like properly blogged about what I've been doing and stuff and we went down I don't know if you know this but basically my brother has been building his own house and they're just about ready to move into it but I think they've been pretty much moving in this weekend and we saw it at the beginning when it wasn't like watertight or anything it was just kind of like the the bricks and the roof wasn't even on and stuff like that and then we've gone back a good few months later it must be like six months later and they're obviously ready to move in after more than a year of building it and because it's a new house and this is a new house and the thing that I struggle a lot with with like things on Pinterest and stuff is they're always in a lot of this sort of really beautiful rooms are in like period properties and there's not a lot of sort of inspo when it comes to a new house so I kind of just thought that you just had to live with I don't know why I thought this way but I thought you kind of just had to have it this way and you couldn't add character and add these kind of like details in to the home but when I went to my brother's house I've don't think I've ever been so inspired it was ridiculous they'd put all of this gorgeous coving in their house like in their basement they painted it railings which is one of the colors that we're using in the kitchen and they the whole basement is in railings and it's super like dramatic but cozy and they've got this super huge like decorative coving in that room and then they've gone for really beautiful lights and in their kitchen it will had clothing and it made me realize that we can add a lot of this stuff in it also made me realize I made me actually quite angry I had a bit of a girl Ally but I realized that we've been cutting corners with the house and we see this as our forever home hopefully oh the hallway obviously I've never really liked that tiled wall but everyone talked me into keeping it it was a big job apparently and so I get rid of it when I had the chance and that's now changed and in this room particular in particular I really didn't like the spotlights in here I found that because this ceiling is quite low here obviously we've got the double height ceiling there but this ceiling is quite low from-- spotlights that had two spotlights in them first of all we did not need that much lighting in this room I think that how many we got no but like eight yeah eight spotlights now we had got one two three four five six seven eight nine 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 we had 20 spotlights and these lights and lights round there and lights in the cabinet it's just ridiculous that we just didn't need that many and so we kindly well Ally kindly took them out and plastered them over ready for Ken to come tomorrow and start painting so this is what the ceiling currently looks like I got my ceiling roses finally as well I wanted to put ceiling roses in in the dining room but we cut a corner in there and we didn't move something which we probably should have moved so I couldn't have won but when I saw that my brother had ceiling roses above his Center Island it just completely changed my mind and I got them in here and I'm so so happy with them even though they're not like blended in or anything yet and they've not been painted but we've swapped out for much more understated spot lights in the ceiling and even just with all of these like patchwork bits it feels so much like less busy on this ceiling because if you think about it we've got speakers we've got our air purification system we've got these and it was just a bit much so that's what's kind of changed in here we've also spent a bit of time repairing anywhere that the house was settling because obviously it's a new house and it's over quite a sort of large area of land that when it's settling there's like cracks and stuff like that so Addie's gone around and filled all of those also got rid of the tea you point by the fridge but yeah it looks a little bit of a mess in here at the moment but it's all in prep for painting which is very very exciting so this is the piece of granite that's gonna be coming off and we've got a new one going on it's just a little bit more statement because this really is going to be a lot of like the focal point of the room this is going to be painted in fur and ball railings there's another person's Instagram account that really did inspire inspire like my kitchen because this floor I didn't really know what to do with it cuz I do really like this floor it's like marble tiled floor but it's almost like a creamy gray beige kind of color and I wasn't sure what to do with it and then I saw that her Instagram account is called just a little build and I'll link her down below where I'm linking all of the other accounts that I've mentioned in this video she's basically got the same floor as us and she had the colors that we wanted in her kitchen as well and so it's just a no-brainer for us that we've seen it we loved it so he went with it so we're going with railings on the center island to be a little bit more dramatic not make it feel too sparse in here and then we're get rid nging rid of the cream oh so excited to get rid of the cream and we are putting pheromone ball pavilion grey on the cabinet's so Ken's got his work cut out doing that but we're very excited about it to happen on the ceiling and the walls it's going to be all nice and white and just brighten it up in here a lot more everything's going to be filled we've obviously got rid of the what's that what they called the blinds they've gone and we'll kind of play it by ear whether we have anything put back there because we've never used the curtains or blinds in here so yeah that's kind of the plan for in here so today hopefully Christians going to come and fit the new worktop we also need to get all of the furniture out of this room because it makes Ken's life a lot easier it's gonna be so weird seeing this room like empty because it's like my favorite room I come and sit in here every morning so it's gonna make me a little bit sad Ali was like we need to move everything else but no I don't want to but also really looking forward to just getting started on this room which is very very exciting we're going to be storing everything in this room we've just had a little bit of a move around it or not move around we're just sort of moving stuff but this is like the where all of the furniture is that's kind of left over because obviously this is the next room to get started but we're going to move everything from the kitchen into here and then once that's done we can hopefully start moving stuff out of here and we can start decorating in here as well all systems are go again so this is phase phase kind of one and a half I would say because we've only got Ken and Graham here for like two and a bit weeks so we're not gonna get nearly as much done as last time so yeah I think this is like Phase two and I know one and a half but hopefully things are gonna start moving again cuz I feel I felt like really frustrated with the whole thing I just I felt like we haven't been doing anything and I've really wanted to start doing things and so I found it quite like I don't know a little bit our next job is to clear the kitchen basically I haven't warned about you well we're currently at the new coffee table is all that's left and the new rug this is what our living room looks like really happy about this yeah really happy we still got that sofa to come in as well and the granite and stone people have just called us to let us know that they are going to be about 20 minutes so it's gonna be all systems go in here getting that workshop off and putting the new one on oh so exciting yeah they said just one luck cuz there's something about you all Jews think you your eyes you sent you touch is all a dream now I can't live without you so the new worktop is in look at this well I love it so much when this is dark I always think when I stand here and I see that this is dark and obviously this is like it just shows how amazing this is going to look I absolutely love it and we went a little bit more statement on the center island but it matches like perfectly with the existing Caesar sound because this is both Caesars own we didn't even realize but they are so they still look really really good together day one of the kitchen renovation is complete lumi is very very confused she's like where's the sofas gone oh yeah you're on day two I have to access the kitchen fire the back garden okay this is where at we've got Kenan Graham in and this is what my kitchen looks like oh my god oh my gosh is it finished yet why are you hiding you absolutely love being on my vlogs they stop drydock don't even try to act like you're not - - oh god looking good babe not you so this is probably my least favorite stage of decorating because I always imagined that Ken's gonna come in and the paint's gonna go straight on everything and it's gonna look amazing straight away but in actual facts they have to fill all of the holes and all of the cracks where the house is settled and it's just it ends up looking worse before it looks better basically so this time next week I'm gonna have a beautiful kitchen again well that I'm gonna have a good kitchen and this is the makeshift kitchen so we've set up the Nespresso machine and the kettle and we've got the cake in here and then this is like the cat side of the new tiny little kitchen to be fair though this kitchen is still probably bigger than our old kitchen at the art house so we're fairly used to this in fact I think this is exactly the same sink so we are no strangers to this and it should be a walk in the park aside from the fact that we don't actually have a cooker or a microwave in here but we might go in by just like a cheap microwave to tide us over if we need to heat anything up and I'm gonna bring the Smeg fridge to the pink one from my office up here and pop it down in that corner so that we can keep kind of like milk and just snacks and stuff so if anyone wants to help themselves to got quite a few people working at the house again it's a madhouse so this is a nice little space to be able to have now in this room we have a little guest if you don't follow me on Twitter you might not know I'm gonna sit in the ensuite bathroom yes I think I've spoken about on a few platforms now but we've had a we woke up one morning and found a Bengal in our house and it wasn't our Bengal and thanks to the wonders of social media we found the owner and unfortunately he keeps coming back to our house and we tried a number of different things you know so we've tried not letting him in first of all cuz when he was coming here initially we were just keeping him in calling the owner and she was coming to pick him up it looks like I'm sat on the toilet by him no I was doing it but he keeps coming back and he just isn't going home and at the moment his owner is away so you know in buzzie he looks just like me which is very very strange so when he was in our house we thought it was Lumi and it's not and his owner loves him very much but she's away at the moment and he's under the bed Ozzy fuzzy we're winning I can see your tail cleaning himself under there he loves stretching on his back like that he does it all the time coming home so yeah we're keeping him in our spare bedroom for the moment because I don't think human links get on but I think I don't I think it's buzz trying to be friends with him and I think Lynx is trying to be friends of him but maybe they're trying to like exert their authority I don't really know yeah we don't know what to do because he just won't go home once he's here he's here he's so happy when he sees his owner and obviously she's away at the moment and he's here and we've also got a load more security going in at moments we've got we've got Matt Ali's best friend here who's our electrician and he is popping in cables at the moment so that our security system can go in which is very exciting we've already got a really good security system here at the moment but as of today we have a highly upgraded one which is brilliant so I might be looking a little bit flaky I've been using a lot of retinol so I apologize so basically I kind of feel like I need to bring you up to speed in here Wow look at the moon made looks like it's like right on top of our house and so basically the paint is that the paint is like Ken and Graham have put the first kind of undercoat on the woodwork and I've come in and I'm like I should go because what how they had it in here before was everything was painted in the same color so the woodwork the windows and the big window doors and I didn't really think anything of it but now that I've seen it with the white contrast I think I've changed like my mind and I want white woodwork so we're currently trying out different grades because we don't want it to be too clinical in here we want it to still be quite cozy so we've got ammonite already on the wall there which I think is the color that's already on the walls and I've got this in my office already now the actual complementary gray or white for this room for the railings and corn for is blackened what we've got in the hallway and that's what you're putting on there now isn't it yeah it's because it's different like I think blackened yeah yeah I feel a bit more like cleaner fresher feel like well that yeah yeah it's a warmer gray I think you think that's brilliant them because we've got so much blackened leftover cool so the other ones are downstairs so we've tried these two little tester pots now we're gonna give strong white and whether they go on the walls so that's a lot whiter isn't it but it's why I've got in my dressing room I tell you kids gonna be upset anything was it with it with it with it so first kitchen update since I had my hair cut and yeah you would have seen this in another vlog I've also been really really slacking with these kitchen updates however we have made a lot of progress since I last saw you so I can kind of talk you through that now but it does look apparently like a scene from Dexter not I've ever watched Dexter but that's why everyone's saying we are in the kitchen this is what it looks like so we've got paper all over the floor everything's kind of wrapped up and the first coat of primer yeah so this is gonna be going dark for the first time yeah I'm oh yeah the part are you telling me how to do what this is obviously progress the Magnolia colored cabinets are gone but I'm gonna go through to this bit because we did make oh this is the dark stuff that's going on yeah so this is the dark tone interior wood primer from faroan ball that we're gonna put on first and then the paint will go on top so I think we're gonna be doing painting tomorrow is that right Greg Ken dark is gonna go on but not the actual railings just yet tomorrow pinky promise if it all goes well with a primer today tomorrow and then I did make a decision in this area so if we go through my last go through I'm gonna go through anyway it's such a nice sunny day today if I went for the contrasting wood much to Ken's dismay so we went for ammonite on the walls and then all white on all of the woodwork and the skirtings and the windows they aren't finished yet so you might see that there just a little bit sort of patchy that's because this we'll be painted last once everything's on the cabinet so that they don't mess it up I think that's kind of the update there are three days until completion apparently Monday is supposed to be the finishing day but very very very exciting I've lost track of the days that we're on that this is our kitchen at the moment we have railings from faroan ball on the center island oh my goodness it is just beautiful I feel like this camera isn't even doing it justice because it's lighting up so much but it's just the most beautiful like bluey cool toned gray it almost looks black but it's a little bit oh it's just can't even put it into words it looks so good and then we've got the Cornforth on the woodwork and the outer cabinets the ceiling is looking at seamless and it is all just coming along perfectly the finish is amazing look at that I did some artwork on the floor as well we came back last night and Ali had left the fridge open as well which was absolutely fabulous but this is me at the moment I've just woken up very excited by all very very excited we were talking about last night good-morning links and we toyed with the idea of getting like an entirely new kitchen but we actually love this kitchen like the actual kitchen itself it's lovely so we would have just been getting the same kitchen but in a different colour and that's just what seems so silly so this is at least giving us like another few years with this kitchen and hopefully we even then won't need to change it because we still like it we'll just change the colour so it's good I'm also looking at new sofas for the kitchen area and also new barstools I need to find like the right barstools so I think I'm going to look at ordering those today also Sarah cope steak is helping me with my cushions and I'm ordering those today which is so exciting that is today's update so I am really really loving it in here at the moment and even though it looks like a seagull Dexter my kitchen this is when you know you made the right choice having a seating area in your kitchen because I keep having to sit on the stairs every morning not that you needed a close-up of my foot but yeah so many people were like why are you putting a seating area in your kitchen this is why running Ken why you stopped in there I'm feeling you yeah yeah do you find your pain what were you looking for I'm a knight wha eggshell oh good well done can't come in check around the other way oh okay morning campers the under pressure you are under pressure today so what's happening and then the handles get back on then the reveal I know it has I know I believe it I saw the swear I didn't see the tears but I saw the swear I did see the sweat it's very hot in here though I don't know why you don't like open the doors or anything oh yeah that's true yeah part of your checkers is it time no you promised no so the time has come we're going to be taking I know some obsess about day cuz Genesee the kitchen obviously not tidy in there but yes that's insane yeah how good is the ceiling yeah yeah South they're good baby do you did you do this isn't it yes the walls are still waiting to be painted that's what's gonna be hit on Monday and the ceiling I know that's why I said it I literally like time-lapse the whole thing and like it just look like they were unveiling a new kitchen is nuts the handles even look like brand-new don't they know yes what do you think of the new kitchen I can will be mad if he knew that you just did that come on get down get down good boy good boy this is pretty much the kitchen finished and honestly it feels like it's a new kitchen the handles look brand-new but they're not there so they haven't even been cleaned and they're so shiny I love the Cornforth white on the cabinet as they just look amazing we still have the walls to finish off and tidy up and the ceiling as well because they were using they were airbrushing like the paint on I don't know if that's a technical term but obviously you get spray back so they did the initial coats on the ceiling to get it kind of finished but there will be the final coats going on the walls and the ceiling on Monday and that is this room finished in terms of the renovation will then be waiting about two weeks for some new cushions to come for the sofas but we are also getting some new sofas as well for this area back here but this is this area almost finished and I'm just so in love with it this is my dream kitchen this is my dream kitchen I can't believe it I honestly can't believe it I'm just so grateful for them for doing this and for getting it done so quickly and I just yeah I can't believe it honestly can't believe it accompany this is my kitchen and I only get like five hours to spend in it it's not going away damn it but I hope that you enjoyed this kind of renovation video and seeing it from start to almost finished I would have shown you finished but it kind of over on and these things generally do but you've got the the kind of feel for things in here and then I will show you a full kitchen tour that's beautifully shocked and I'll show you everything that's in my kitchen and at a later date that's definitely
