Our Homeschool Reward System

hey bear is Candace and you're watching homeschool on the hill and today I just want to share with you our reward system that we're going to use for the 2016-2017 school year and I did a video a few months ago on our classroom rules and rewards I'll do a card I'll link a card for it and so in that you can kind of see what our classroom rules are those have not changed and also how I do this kind of three-strikes system on the board not like strikes like little X's on the board near the kids initials and that way if they strike out at the end of the day um that determines our old system they wouldn't get a sticker on their card and they use the card to get prizes so that's what you will see in the other video so if you're curious on how we did things that's how we were doing them this is how we tweak it so still have the same rules and we still do three strikes you're out but instead of earning a sticker for your card now we do tickets and I'll show you down here okay so here we go and we're just doing tickets and I'll show you I picked green because green is our school color I got these from the Dollar Tree and they come in a pack like this I went ahead and bought a few packs because I wanted to just have plenty on hand and they are raffle tickets so do keep in mind that you will see the tickets will all have a companion ticket attached and you know obviously you just separate them so if you were to do I'm sure you guys know what I mean like the person who does the drawing they would put their information on here and that would go into the drawing and then they would take this away kind of as proof I'm not gonna worry about that I'm just hearing them all apart and using all of them so whether they're lined or not lined I'm not paying attention to the numbers it's just the fact that they have this ticket and so 250 in a pack from the Dollar Tree which is a lot and you have to think we do 180 school days and so I just kind of round that up to 200 for easy calculation just saying everybody's perfect so I need about 600 tickets and I have 750 for the school year so that's great and actually I went ahead and took a pack of those tickets and tore them apart and went ahead and put them in a little container that I'm going to keep in my craft room and so and you just kind of grab them easily each day and so that's how I'm storing our tickets now my kids can earn a ticket each day if they don't strikeout and that means you get one strike you still get a ticket you get two strikes you still get a ticket third strike no ticket for you um now another way they can earn tickets is by getting a 100 on a test math test history test science test spelling test vocabulary test we take different tests English test um and so that is really exciting for them and that motivates them you might not be the kind of person who wants to motivate like with test grades or whatever you might not want to reward that sort of thing I do and it just gives them an extra opportunity to earn in our old system a sticker now a ticket and this will be very exciting for them because they really want to spend these tickets in our school store and before I get to specifics on the store I just wanted to show you what we're gonna store the tickets in because when I first thought of this concept I thought I was going to use play money and I just kind of got out of that idea I started looking at it and pricing if I wanted to buy a bunch of it maybe I wasn't looking in the right places but I just decided not to do play money and I went with tickets now I have these little containers to store the tickets in because if you're gonna do stuff like this you've got to think practically the secret card was convenient because it was just a card but now that they're gonna have these little tickets I don't want flying around everywhere you could use a ziplock bag I'm using these little containers like three kids so here's the three little containers if you look here I got these at Office Depot last year they've had no purpose since then and I've just kind of been holding on to them but they're called really useful boxes they come in lots of sizes probably lots of colors to these probably aren't the only ones I put a just label maker and put the name on the top and yeah they open they're great and like I said I got them at Office Depot I think it was one of the little ads in the flyer I mean you know they were probably three for a dollar some little special they were running why else would I have purchased them because I had no use for them that I got them anyway Dollar Tree has something comparable to these I know I've seen it they might be a little larger I can't remember um but anyway get something you could use a ziploc bag you could use I don't know if Dollar Tree has like a little coin purse or something I don't know like if you have girls you might want to find something a little bit girly or to do but just keep in mind you need somewhere to keep these items in a ziploc bag would totally be easy but I already had these and have you ever had something not how to use for it and then all of a sudden you're like I know how I can use it that was this for me and I was really excited when I figured out I could pick tickets in here okay so now you know we earned tickets you know where we store the tickets now I'm going to show you how we spend the tickets now simply put this is our this is our school store and when I was brainstorming this I was trying to think where am I going to set up this store and if you've taken the homeschool room tour of my homeschool room um then you'll see I have some different shelving units and things and so I was already brainstorming where I was going to set things up for a little school store um and then I remembered that I had this shoe holder thing I'm not sure that's the official name you might have to check on that she hold her thing might not be the official name um but I had this but actually it was like torn at the bottom and so for some reason I decided to keep it why I do not know but when I came across it again I was like sweet I can totally use that for our school store now because of space it does limit me on you know putting in anything really large but um the prizes are relatively inexpensive anyway so I wouldn't need to put anything too large in there but that's what I'm using here and this obviously had more it actually had another row here and then two big pockets at the bottom and so where it had ripped I just went ahead and did a clean cut through and you can you can cut right under where it's divided and it shouldn't fray or anything on you I know you can find these at Walmart I honestly haven't pressed it please don't go out and spend a bunch of money um maybe Dollar Tree has something and for a buck it's worth a try right okay so that is our store you see that we have twelve different options here and then what I went through and labeled all of the things you may choose to do this differently than me you may want to go you might want to go up in smaller increments this is just what I'm doing and honestly we might have to tweak the system this is our first time using it so I'm gonna have to change it throughout the school year if I can tell something isn't working okay so let me let me just tell you if this was good enough for you and this is kind of all you wanted to see you might want to check out if you would like just some prize ideas and some things that we're using um hang in here because I'm gonna show you I'm just some specifics just to inspire you and give you some ideas obviously you can do it however you want to do it and and what fits your kids personalities and your budget and whatever so okay I'll go ahead and show you for one ticket um okay is so funny because when I was doing this I was like oh this is so fun the boys are gonna think this is so exciting and so cute right when I went to film this video I thought some people are not gonna like that idea they're gonna think of it as like gambling and awful and they're gonna want to let me know in the comment section um and there's only because I'm gonna tell you I'm a little bit sensitive to this because I read through other people's comments and some people are so mean I they'll see somebody's kid eating something and they feel the need to type in the comment section why that person should not be feeding their child a certain food item I don't I don't know I don't know why people feel like they need to do this so I'm just gonna go ahead and say this now hey if you post oakley comments about what i have chosen for my kids rewards i'm gonna go ahead and delete your comment because i don't have time for your negativity i'm just throwing it out there and you can not like the censorship at all my youtube channel so i'm gonna do it that way um I just don't want to look down and see your negativity and I don't want other people to see it so this is what we are doing this is what I'm happy to do with my kiddos and we were all like really excited about it but you don't have to do it this way if you don't do candy find another prize it's fun take you through what we do I feel like I just had to say all that but I really shouldn't have to say all that but I just wanted to and there it is and it's probably staying in here unless I've edited it out okay so here we go our first thing for one ticket I sort of think what could you do for just one ticket and so um came up this little idea some of these pockets are kind of empty because it's more of like a concept or something and so I made these little cards and this one just says it's a bonus ticket drawing excuse me and so anyway what I'm going to do is once a month I think I'm gonna do it on the 10th of every month as or close around obviously the 10th is on a weekend we won't do it on the weekend but what I'll do is um let the kids if they want they can throw one ticket in the drawing and they have a chance of winning and extra ten tickets and I just thought that would be really cute especially since some of these prizes get a little pricey um I mean they just require more tickets and I know some of them are combo prizes so they could really share in that with each other I just thought that would be really fun and kind of exciting anyway so that is what I'm going to do for one ticket if you don't like that idea that's like too much like gambling to you or whatever um you could always do like a Hershey kiss or I don't know I don't know you can you can kind of make it your own okay so here just some more ideas five tickets I picked some little party favor kind of toys they came in uh I could not do this the other day I was trying um anyway this was like a pack of four at the Dollar Tree so put that in there from this weird chicken launcher thing um this one my boys are super excited about now I will tell you for five tickets you don't get the whole pack I just didn't want to take them out because they have this these little sticky things and I didn't want to ruin them um but these are wall walkers I think they're calling ya wall crawlers here my kids used to get these like at birthday parties and things the things that are the coolest things ever and we couldn't find them at our Dollar Tree and they finally have them again so I picked up a couple packs of them but five tickets will actually only earn them one wall walker so um anyway they are very excited they actually saw these in the five tickets also I have something like that just a smaller candy they like this gum and in here you could do like the little mini candy bars if you want it's just whatever you want to do but that's what we're doing for five tickets I'm watching my time because my video cut me off earlier okay and so 10 tickets we jump up to kind of um I have different things here okay so one of my son loves basketball system basketball cards from the Dollar Tree yes I picked up some pokemon cards no I'm not a really big fan of Pokemon but I'm not just super against either um might not be your thing I understand okay so silly putty fan just I mean these are just little things and just from the Dollar Tree and that can really add up so please don't go out and spend a ton of money I kind of acquired all of these things over the summer in little bits not all in one trip so anyway okay for 15 tickets this is where um and this is kind of a leftover from our old system and they get to they have a couple options here they can either skip a lesson in spelling or vocabulary and I'll you know just kind of right in their workbook that day or I have like a little sheet I don't know you don't get this little like rewards things from the Dollar Tree or whatever um hold on and I'll go get them okay I found them um and so anyway they're these little you get them from the Dollar Tree and it kind of you can skip an assignment and so I usually when they would cash these in in the past I would write on it the day and that they were allowed to skip it and I would just kind of staple it into the workbook um just as a like you were allowed to stay but I don't know just for my own memory so I wouldn't look back and go why is this page blank so anyway you can get little things like this at the Dollar Tree and I might just put those in there okay so yeah skipping a spelling or vocabulary lesson is an option for them or they can um stay up an hour later on a school night or have unlimited screen time that afternoon and so that's kind of a big deal because we do limit the screen time during the school year and so anyway they kind of have options for that 15 tickets and so that's just what I thought would have appealed to them so now everything has to cost money and you could even spread that out and make that different values if you wanted to so again not everything has to cost money not everything has to include sugar so I kind of like to do a mixture of all of it though okay so over here for 20 tickets this is actually not new we've actually had this collection I ordered a bunch of Amazon a friend of mine told me to order these LEGO Minifigures and so I just ordered a big bin of them and so anybody who's interested my voice like Lego is they can cash this in for like a minifigures and that's kind of stuff full I mean we've had this since last year and you know they would get them and get excited about them sometimes sometimes they don't okay for 25 tickets this is a larger size candy treats I have a kid who loves Twizzlers because he's my kid and Twizzlers are great and I really love it when people say they can't stand Twizzlers cuz I'm like more for me um but anyway also like a giant sized Hershey bar or wink if you likes dark chocolate so and you can get those for like I think a dollar 50 or whatever it one more I actually haven't put them in yet just because it's chocolate and well I just can't be trusted around chocolate if I'm being honest I just cannot be trusted so I don't need them sitting up here any longer Tiffany baby anyway so I just kind of fill it the things up there's some of these little and sour gummy things whatever okay so this one is one of the first kind of combo prizes that they can get and this one requires that they all pitch in for it in 30 tickets obviously you have three kids 30 divided by three is you guys are good yeah okay so what I have here is a silly-string battle so this is not just 30 tickets to get a can of silly string if 30 tickets so they can put in ten each and have a silly string kind of battle and probably make them go in the yard but that gives them something to save for together so I really just wanted to encourage them to have a little fun together and save up for things together so anyway that's a silly string battle three cans three bucks okay over here this was a Dollar Tree find I with the gumballs lookup machine I mean I have them at Walmart I really haven't priced I haven't really tried to compare the prices so I don't know but anyway I just thought that would be fun somebody would have their own little gumball machine tickets down here okay they are super excited about this one this one would be one of the ones they would probably want to share again for 45 tickets um total it's the latest version of bean boozled okay if you don't know what this game is I bet you there are YouTube videos out and I'm not even I'm not even gonna try to explain it to you I did play once I did and but I won't play like when it's gonna be a really bad flavor because I said I can't handle stuff on Bisco always think this is so much fun so anyway like yeah it's always fun when someone throws up right um okay so sixty tickets these were a little pricey I'm just gonna be honest these are a little pricey I need to be looking for them to be clearance here at the end of the summer but these are those bunch of water balloons look we buy regular water balloons and yes they tie them but it is a lot of work so this is like a huge tree to get these I say it's a lot of work it really is to like fill them all up because this one does 100 of them in a minute and so they have these containers and they want to a water balloon fight but I did make that cost more tickets because to me these are a little pricey they were like 10 bucks and that to me is Friday okay I can't remember how much they were but they were to me they were a little pricey for 75 tickets my idea is a pizza party at lunchtime and so um yeah I'll order pizza and they'll probably get soft drinks which is you know not not an everyday occurrence for us it's a special thing to get a soft drink and so I'll probably make that special but again they all need to pitch in on that probably 25 tickets each to make that happen and last but not least I jumped it up to 90 tickets because I was like this is sugar overload it's really gonna make them safe for this but this is just an ice cream sundae dessert party and that's gonna be one night after dinner it won't be during the school day but they will say for it and I just figured I'd be buying multiple flavors of ice cream and toppings and print things and that would really add up and that's why I made it a higher value these things could change out I consider putting a trip to the movies in you know the last one because that's a pretty pricey outing when you try to be thrifty when we do that but anyway these are just the ideas that I've come up with and like I said before I get it if some of these aren't your things you don't want to do sugar or whatever it's fine you can think of ideas you could you could do you know eight different options you don't have to do all of these but hopefully it inspired you to do something because I'm just tell you my heart here and right before we start the school year of course I'm optimistic of course I'm excited um but truly I want our kids to have fun I want to have fun with my kids and I already saw their excitement over this and his already like it's already got me jazz and ready to go so that's just my heart as a mom and I'm doing the best I can and this is what I've come up with for this school year so I hope it inspires you please let me know in the comments section below if
