sixty-five trade that brought a 30 year old outfielder to the club there is no doubt that Frank Robinson's presence not to mention his Triple Crown season when he led the American League with a 316 batting average 49 home runs and 126 RBI put the Orioles over the top and launched them to their first American League title they were decided underdogs when they faced the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series the Dodgers great pitching and speedy offense were supposed to overpower the Orioles hitters and young pitching staff but we all know what happened the Orioles surprised the baseball world not only winning the World Series but sweeping the Dodgers in four straight the Orioles allowed only two runs none after the third inning of Game one and held LA to just 17 hits and a 142 batting average all World Series records that still stand today this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Orioles first World Series title and we're happy to have many members of that team with us today let's welcome them back to Baltimore this tall right-hander spent nine of his sixteen big league seasons with the audience primarily as a reliever and appeared on four World Series teams in 1966 he went six in two and 32 games walking only eight batters in 66 innings pitched a longtime local resident please welcome Orioles Hall of Famer the Essene fielder saw action at first second and third base for the Orioles in 1966 over 71 games he averaged 83 games a year over four full seasons with the birds before being traded early in 1967 from st.
