today I'm going to do a quick review on how to use a ditch which I'm also known as a trencher so this trench we're going to use today to run some water line and electric climb back to the house from the garden area the machine we have today is a ditch which c16 ex and I rented this for less than $200 at our local renters Senate rental Center and I have it for the day so it's going to be plenty of time to do what we need to do first things first is making sure you've got plenty of gas and oil and even though it's not my machine I went ahead and check that out just to be safe also on the front side over here is the instructions so go through and read all the detailed instructions when you get ready to use it we rented it from prior rental so if you're local there's the phone number if you're interested in running this machine specifically so the next thing we'll do is get it started first thing is the key we've been running this machine so otherwise we would usually choke it but right now it shouldn't be required to choke right here's the throttle so you've got slow and high so I'm gonna go ahead and start it up [Music] and so I wanted to do a quick overview of the controls and then we'll show them in action so after it started your forward is right here think of this is a zero turn lawn mower and how you have the different sides turning at once so this is left side right side of your tracks straight forward straight back and to put the trencher down just use the screen lever push it down opposite ways up and to engage the trenching teeth you pull this over and in so operating it you keep your hand right here this probably also ensures that the operator is way away from the blades at all times and to go forward this forward back back so we'll do that real quick with the motor running just to show you guys all the options [Music] the next thing we're do is ready to dig so what you want to do is make sure and line your cutting arm up with the direction of the path you want to go and you always date backwards so you start at your starting point and go backwards and it just kicks that back and obviously I have this is the first time I ran one today so I'm just trying to do the overview of what I've learned there may be more expertise that could do forward or back trenching I'm not sure but this is what I've used and it's worked so far once you engage this blade at the arm and get it going down then you slowly lower it and so it starts hitting up starts tearing out the dirt if you hit a rock you will know it because it just kind of starts Rocking luckily I've trenched a couple hundred feet already and I haven't hit any big rock so I'm doing good today [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right so I've dug quite a bit I'm in about 18 inches and that's what I wanted to put my conduit at so this is just running a small electric line out to a place we're going to build our chicken coop so 18 inches here should be plenty deep enough and you'll just have to look at your local guidelines to know how deep you need to dig another important thing is to call before you dig and get any lines located here on the farm we don't have very many lines at all so as you can see there's no flat there are no flags out here except for the ones marking our rows of corn so we don't have to worry about lines right here but you do want to check with your local guidelines on when to dig where to dig and how deep your lines need to be so I hope you guys enjoyed that quick little tutorial shared a little bit of information from somebody that's never used a trencher before and I've been able to do everything I needed to today if you like this video make sure to check out Walker farm fam and you like what you see subscribe so you'll get notifications for any future videos [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]
