Opera Singer Reacts to Sister Friede and Father Ariandel from Dark Souls 3 OST

sister Frida and father ariandel I've never heard this before I never played this DLC let's check it out [Music] what we're hearing right away is this dynamic between the two of them this is an unhealthy relationship an Unholy relationship where we're hearing is Sister Frida and the soprano totally dissimilar from the main theme of Dark Souls 3. man I really need to play Dark Souls 3 again we start with that whispered quality and that's uh the malignants that has come over sister Frida or rot or some sort of quality about her that has been overtaken and maybe even possessed or she's has a demon inside of her and father ariandela is controlling her that's the dynamic that you hear right away the piano is melancholic per usual in Dark Souls fashion and then on top of that The Sopranos really the clue here that indicates to us that not only is this really about sister freedom but the dynamic here between the two of them is is not well foreign [Applause] [Music] do you hear the bubbling up that I was waiting for the beat to drop there and go into the epicness that is typical of these two-part Symphonies that we have with from soft music but there's something here that is a very very not okay I mean obviously but like the hushed quality there's not a lot of instrumentation which is kind of bare bones especially for Dark Souls which is kind of interesting and so what this leads me to believe is that there's something really really really bad happening here there's a real feeling of possession in my mind it's disturbing and we're about to really shift into a very intense moment I'm assuming [Applause] [Music] you see how we added the cello now that's the father's voice so now we're in a duet actually it's a trio between whatever the piano is representing the soprano which is representing the sister another cello which is representing the father and the reason why I say that is because the father is lower the tonal register of the male is lower Sopranos always signify Grace Beauty love tenderness Celestial being this very common classical music Trope and certainly we hear it here on full display oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] do you hear the creepy strings in the background there's a lot of tremolo there and especially in the upper register and there's this hushed quality over this that's very interesting and then we at one point we had two different voices and they're moving both in Sharps and in Flats the keys are slightly off and it's all to create a feeling of of a real disquiet and real uncomfortability is that a word discomfort and you hear this incremental movement it's very still it's very lilting [Music] thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] so it sounds like the second voice is actually trying to pull down the first soprano and the first soprano is trying to ascend and in my mind's eye I kind of envisioned sister Frito wanting to go to heaven wanting to go to a holy land a holy place and she's being pulled back by some sort of force which is the second singer and there's this tug between the two of them which is really interesting [Music] oh [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign unbelievable so I was wondering when that end would occur and there we had it and there's a real big shift there of course but I think there's something thematically that occurs that would cause that to happen I'm curious because I looked up the the Latin here I don't know if this is one of these things where it's not real Latin or whatever butio [Applause] Outcast Exile I would cast a foolish Superstition those who oppose the followings of the Divine God God who opposed the making of God to Divine do you know that you are taking sacred one swallow and saying that sacred one are Divine holy departed one as departed Ash departed and deported and twisted God okay well so none of that makes sense but if you think about it but this is saying like you have made a mistake you have chosen the wrong path it's witnessing it's when a person is going goes up to somebody and it's like hey you know do you believe in God it almost feels like cautionary tale like don't go down that path you know it's almost like uh the father is perhaps preaching you are corrupted you are closed squeezed out you are turned into an enemy there's a danger in the Latin which is really interesting in the way that it's sung and there's a desperation and like you must repent and you must change your path the Lord goes Freda is the eldest of the three sisters so that's the other voices we hear who founded the Sable Church of londor the others being yuria and Liliana sister Frida is an unkindled okay because she was attempting to link the first flame but failed oh those lyrics are about Frida who didn't make it having abandoned the Sable Church she happened upon ariandel's painted world there she tricked father arenda by convincing him that the only way to preserve the painted world was by suppressing the fire with his own blood to prevent it from being burned to the ground and resulting in the rod that afflicts it despite giving ample warning sister freed is ultimately forced to wield her scythe and confront the meddling Ashen one not before asking father ariandel to turn his gaze away from the imminent Carnage when she collapses the first time and enraged ariandel Sparks the flame he bled so much to prevent in a desperate attempt to revive her now rekindled she comes back from Death to fight by his side after failing a second time Frida Rises yet again and tinges her Flame Black with the dark and one final struggle to defeat the second Ash and prevent The Painted World from being eventually replaced with a new one so you do hear that in a way I wonder if this is an ariendel's song especially when he obviously we hear in the music when that Ash is delivered and when the flame is expunged and we hear that uh in in the desperation to revive sister Freda and bring her back and again that cautionary
