well tonight the long arm of the law just got much shorter in one Middle Tennessee town you won't believe who believe who poached nearly all of the city's police officers and as newsChannel fives Nick varus tells us the question now is who's left to fight crime take a look one two three four right there all the squad cars are parked in red boiling springs why there aren't any more police officers to drive them that's right nearly all the officers are gone all of them hired away by Macon County Sheriff Mark Gammons how many officers work in red boiling springs to my knowledge there were five so you left him with one yeah I guess we can say that I mean what nothing personal towards iam sheriff Gammons poached four of the five officers who patrol the small city of 1100 people in his own County what did the police chief think of that well a hardier police chief he's one of the ones I hired he will be working in investigations now for me so where does all this leave red boiling springs so as it stands how many police officers are there with red boiling springs right now you're looking at him just like that jeff Gandy is the sole remaining officer and now the interim police chief he concedes the sudden departure of his colleagues came as something of a surprise but Gandy says there is no ill will they resigned as of last Thursday evening and have moved on to a better job again so Sheriff's Department I think such a mass exodus at once may be a bit unusual but officers leaving a job for what they believe to be a better one is not it happens in counties across the state with sheriffs or police chief's often poaching law enforcement talents from right next door in this case it's just left red boiling springs a bit short-handed now let's be very clear about one thing if anyone out there is thinking now might be a good time to rob a bank in red boiling springs well don't the Sheriff's Department tells me they are stepping up patrols and the city still has one officer on the job in Macon County Nick Barris newsChannel five the red Boiling Spring City Council is already advertising and taking applications to hire new officers they hope to make some new hires before the end of next week
