I am Darude and I just let you guys in my home studio here in southwest of Finland I’m an electronic dance musician I’ve been making music since 1996 or so I’ve always been a dance music lover And also some 80s hair metal and all kinds of stuff So I’m very wide open, when it comes to my taste in music About four or five years into my career I made a track called... Well later it was called Sandstorm and I demoed it to my... Now good friend JS16 aka Jaakko Salovaara Who was at the time like third time in a row the best producer in Finland And he took me under his wing He liked Sandstorm, he picked it out of the demo CD and wanted to redo it in his studio The next Monday after we met, the track was ready as you hear it now on the single We got it mastered at Finnvox Couple weeks later, it charted on Finnish dance chart And was there for number one for 17 weeks in the turn of 1999 and 2000 And that’s one of the reasons why I’m still here But I think even without a hit record I would be probably doing this Because I love technology and I love music I love my little man cave and tinkering and finding stuff here, so It’s been 18 years now that I’ve been a touring artist I’m doing a little bit of a rewind and catching up So four albums, about 15 singles, 40 or so official remixes and touring in 60 to 70 countries In 2015 there was an album called Moments, which was my fourth one And since then I’ve also been working on new material There’s gonna be a track coming out in February 2018 I’m now a free agent, which is interesting for me I was under a record contract for a really long time with really amazing partners But then after my fourth album I decided it was time to change Next single is coming out with a label called Garuda And my first single with them is gonna be a collaboration... With a guy called Ashley Wallbridge, who is also a long time Garuda releasing artist And also under Armada, for instance Both are big dance music labels When I built my first studio in...2002 was my first yeah proper studio At that time I got the 7070 sub and 1030s from Genelec And until a about a year and a half ago I used those and they served me perfectly And then I just got a little taste of these and never gave them back Not to say anything bad about the old stuff, but these are just so much better, depth wise, for me My best example actually, when my friends have been asking about these speakers... Asking ‘How are they better?’ or ‘What’s so much better?’ For one, I think these are more pleasing to the ear to listen to They’re still crisp and sharp and very accurate but it’s not as piercing or whatever The craziest thing – Markku was here, we set up this gear in the middle of a project And I just decided that ‘You know what? Let’s go with it.’ So just different speakers set up and I started working on my project And every delay and reverb sent, for instance... I either EQd thinner or put the send way, way lower Because all of a sudden I heard so much sort of deeper and more accurate in the mix And that was freakishly cool and then I was thinking of all of my old productions ‘Holy crap, did I wash them with reverb?’ And also what changed for me was that now I hear the kick drum punch as I want to hear it When I do dance music with, you know, punchy kicks... I get them straight out of these and now I have the sub bypassed Now, when I have a good mix here, I feel confident that it’s gonna work elsewhere as well So the biggest thing, I think, after the 1030s which were great... But now what I've found with these is that when I mix my kick as loud as I want it in the mix... Then mix everything around it... I can do my final bounce, leave, go to a gig and know... That it’s gonna sound exactly as it should in a big PA system So the translation is sort of very universal
