cuba's capital havana better known as la havana in spanish is full of colour and culture after spending one full day exploring this vibrant city we've created an action-packed travel guide where we cover the top things to see and do havan is a popular place to visit if you're on a cruise or are coming from the popular beach town of valladelo we hope you enjoy our video [Music] before venturing into the center of havana ask your tour guide or taxi driver to stop off at the mesmerizing neighborhood attraction known as fostelandia this sprawling labyrinth of mosaic cover streets is an artwork of artist jose fuster who started the project in 1975 in an effort to improve his rundown fishing community jose gained inspiration from the famous architect gaudi and picasso which is reflected in his artwork at the park [Music] after exploring frustulandia venture into the heart of the city starting with old havana you'll see one of cuba's most iconic buildings el capitolio it was once the headquarters of cuban congress but is now an academy of science and technology [Music] right next to el capitolio is the picturesque grand theater which was built in 1914 this beautifully designed theater is currently home to the cuban national ballet [Music] across the road from both buildings central park is a nice place to relax in the shade after sightseeing in the sun enjoy a drink in a park bench and soak in the sights of this picturesque park [Music] after spending some time sightseeing you can grab a drink at ernest hemingway's old hangouts this world famous american novelist spent decades of his life living in cuba finding inspiration for many of his pieces of work in the bars and hotels of havana floridita bar was his go-to daiquiri bar whilst la bodakita del medio is where he enjoyed the mojito wow [Music] boasts some of the most impressive architecture in havana with rows of colorful colonial buildings alongside more modern designs take time to wander around the square taking pictures of the beautiful buildings and stop off by one of the many galleries if you have time [Music] other iconic havana squares to check out include plaza de armas which is havana's oldest and most historical plaza with statues and architecture dating back to the 1500s there's also plaza de la cathedral which is home to the most majestic church in cuba the cathedral has been visited by three popes and once held the remains of new world explorer christopher columbus finally walk onward to saint francis of assisi square for another impressive church in some beautiful buildings along the surrounding streets [Music] havana has a somewhat glamorous reputation however it has a side to it that is very different and is a real representation of how many locals live outside of the newly renovated and highly maintained squares buildings are falling apart and locals can't afford or find the supplies to maintain them streets have a much more rugged appearance and shops have completely empty shelves to see what life is really like we encourage you to head away from the tourist trail it's eye-opening and will give you an insight into other aspects of havana [Music] stories monuments and remnants of the cuban revolution can be found throughout cuba to gain an insight into this important historic event and get a better understanding of the country and its people we highly recommend a stop at the museum of the revolution [Music] revolution plaza is one of the largest public squares in the world it was a site of many important events during the cuban revolution and has since been transformed with an array of monuments and memorabilia top things to see here include the huge building murals of freedom fighters che guevara and camila segun fuegos and the jose marti memorial another thing we loved about this area was the cool rows of classic cars in the car park [Music] we personally recommend hiring a classic car with a driver for a couple of hours while super touristic and cliche it's an extremely fun way to see the sights of havana and you have the freedom to spend as much time as you like in each place [Music] one of the best places to check out on your classic car adventure is a legendary el malecon el malecon is havana's long seaside promenade and the famous meeting point for lovers locals hang out here on a weekend and friends sit down for a catch up throughout the day [Music] [Music] in the area visit the famous hotel nationale for a drink on the patio it has some amazing views of the malecon [Applause] [Music] it's been a long day of sightseeing so our final recommendation havana is castillo de los tres les del morro otherwise known as moro fortress it's a key fortress that was built to defend the city against pirates and invaders in the 1500s you'll also be able to see some incredible views of havana here we hope you enjoyed watching our one day havana travel guide if you liked our video and want to see more of
