OMEGA WATCH RESTORATION - A Classic 1960s Mechanical Watch Service & Repair Tutorial

here we have an amiga watch from the late 1980s and as you can see it looks in pretty bad shape well the watch glass a perspex crystal is completely done in by well your guess is as good as mine I actually found this in a box of scrapped watches and so I don't really know its history but being a high grade watch I've decided to get they watch presentable and working so that my wife can use it the case is gold plated rather than solid gold but I feel it'll clean up nicely and the glass should be simple enough to replace the first of all I'm going to strip the movement to pieces and give it a good service and I'll start by removing the movement from the case [Music] you you [Music] [Music] and I'll take the dial off [Music] I can see a part missing here let me know in the comments if you spot it - I'll let you know later in the video but for now I'll carry on by removing the can opinion and with that done I can let down the remaining power from the mainspring and I can remove the ratchet and crown wheels and the click works [Music] and now is safe to remove the balanced assembly and the pallets and now can remove the train of wheels [Music] the barrel bridge can now be removed and out comes the barrel a turning the movement over I can remove the keyless works so they're still what stripped down time to give the parts a good clean and then I can reassemble and lubricate [Music] [Music] okay time to put the movement back together and I'll start by reinstalling the mainspring and in goes the barrel Alba so with the barrel reassembled I can install the train now I can secure the train with the barrel and the train wheel bridges okay time to assemble the barrel bridge parts starting with the click works now the crown wheel can be fitted and on goes the ratchet wheel flipping the movement over I can install the can opinion and the keyless works [Music] and now we're ready to reinstall the escapement and get this movement working [Music] and sure enough we have a happy and with that the word is working fine I'll reinstall the dial enhance shortly but first I guess I need to clean up a case and I'm not going to polish the gold plating so I'm just using a very light metal cleaner to clean out and now the case can go in the ultrasonic cleaner a have a new replacement glass so with the case nice and clean I can fit it and I'll be using my roba glass press this allows the perspex crystal to be fitted by compression the lower bakelite die is fitted with felt so as to prevent the inside of the glass from being scratched and this tool makes fitting this style of glass a very easy task remember I mentioned that one part seemed to be missing the dial washer was actually missing now let me install the dial in our hand and I'll demonstrate the problem now with this particular movement and without a dial washer it's possible for the T for the our wheel to lift over the opinion of the minute wheel if the watch runs dial down if this happens the hour hand will become out of sync with the minute hand so I need to find a dowel washer and look for an original one in my box of Omega scrappers but no luck there so I'll just have to use a generic one now can reassemble the dial-in hands now can reassemble the whole movement in the case so quick check on the time and machine and nothing really to concern me there it looks like it will be a good little time keeper and that's it sorted a nice little dress watch for the missus and sure she'll be pleased with it now I just need to pop down the shops and find a strap for it and that's it for this video thanks for watching if you like this content and you'd like to see more in it would be awesome if you would subscribe is free and if you click the bell icon you'll be informed whenever I upload new content and a big thanks to all my patrons who helped to keep this channel alive okay I'll see you in the next one take care [Music] you
