Some punks from Allentown introduced us (my friends and I on tour) to Erik and Mischief Brew. We saw him at a tiny bar in Philly the next trip out there. Later that same night, I went walking with a friend and some dudes from the Ethiopian grocery gave us fresh dates. I kinda lump that together as a magical time in my life, with lots of weird adventures. Erik is on the soundtrack to that period, forever.
I probably listen to at least one mischeif brew song a day. Love this one. RIP
Just a flat out beautiful song. Was lucky enough to see mischief brew/Erik a few times. Will always be the sound of Philly to me.
I was getting into Mischief Brew in just the few months before Erik Petersen died, which leaves their music sorta bittersweet. This is definitely my favorite track of theirs.
I first heard and saw mischief brew about 4 or 5 years ago. I was either 29 or 30. They were thr first band I heard as an adult that had thr same impact music had on me as a kid. Thst is a powerful thing for a band to be able to do.
Erik was a punk icon of mine. Rest in power :(
God, this song is one of my absolute favorite folkpunk songs. If you have a minute or two, check out the ukelele cover by Earl Kim on YouTube.. beautiful rendition.
R.i.p. Erik π
Having moved from the South to escape this shit to thirteen years later where I now miss it... This song works on both experiences. Knowing that I'm leaving something valuable but that is completely untenable for me, but also now wanting to say "Fuck it, let's do it the hard way."
I'm so glad I got to see them ππ
