Old Mechanic Said to never tell anyone about this garage hack

[Music] everybody welcome back I was at a friend's house yesterday who has a transmission builder and ask him some questions here and there on the 4l ad build that you've already seen the beginning of and we're talking about bushings and one thing or another and he grabbed this punch and he started to knock this bushing out and I said man I'd have wished I would have thought of that I could have used that years ago so all this is is just a sharpened punch used to remove a bushing from a blind hole and what that means is is a hole that has a bottom to it where you can't just knock the bushing through to the other side so I'm going to take this regular old punch and we're going to turn that punch into something useful this punch is a probably seen its better days but this is a good one to have in your toolbox okay and be sure and keep it cool so you can a hold on to it be so it doesn't lose any of the hardness I'm gonna lay this thing over on the corner of the wheel groovin halfway there [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] okay it does not get any more simple than that now I'm gonna show you how we use this thing okay so this is one of the drums out of the 4l 80 and if you can see this bushing we're getting ready to take out this bushing right here this hole that it's gonna that we would normally just let it fall through is smaller and has nearly or is smaller and we can't just knock the bushing through it without really deforming the bushing so we're gonna take the punch that we've sharpened right there lay it right down on the edge that bushing and we're gonna hammer a big notch right through it so now that we've cut a groove through it all we did was put his her driver behind it and it flies out at you so as you can see the bushing just crumbled apart after I cut the groove through it there's the tool after we did it still sharp as a razor okay there it is probably one of the most simple and useful tools that you'll run across in the garage so man even if you don't use this kind of tool or if even if you don't build transmissions this tool will work in a bunch of different instances so for those old punches that you're just about to throw in the trash because you smashed your finger with them too many times this is a good way to turn that tool into something useful a free tool you can't do without it so go out there and your toolbox dig around and find one of those old punches that you never use anymore and turn it into something useful we're gonna call the head of rap guys that's the end of the video as always thanks to Kim for stopping by I really appreciate it if wait I almost forgot give it a thumbs up subscribe you don't want to miss anything cool per se guys we'll see you in the next one
