Old Dads General Store and Deli Review & Chimney's Picnic Great Smoky Mountains National Park 2021

hi everybody today we're here in gatlinburg and today our adventure is gonna start here in gatlinburg we're gonna head into old dad's general store they got a little deli in there it's got some really good sandwiches we're gonna get some of those and then we're gonna head in the national park and have a picnic you ready dawn i'm ready let's do this [Music] and today our adventure begins here at the entrance of the great smoky mountains national park here in gatlinburg at old dads general store a cute little store here next to this sugarlands sellers winery this is actually the place to come to get a little grocery a little party goods if you have a cabin like up in chalet mountain or near uh this area and of course there's a little gateway wine and spirits over here don are you you excited for today's adventure i'm excited yeah well let's get in there because there's these sandwiches are good got these little candy barrels here full of penny candy [Music] ooh cichlids remember the cichlids dawn yeah and old lemon heads oh yeah i also got some fireballs for for chris everybody knows chris loves fireballs doesn't he and he loves they also have some really cool little little gifts like postcards and and just some smoky mountain uh gifts there's a really cool little coffee mug there what have you i remember oh that's woodsy the owl yes wow yeah how much do they want for him do you know 25.99 oh dawn there's a there's a chicken for ya i think he plays me does he play music he's a chicken isn't he's cute though isn't me that's raggedy ann and raggety annie look at that there's some cades cove magnets more postcards here's some cabin decor here little little bears looks like they're up to no good them bears are up to no good are they corn from a jar that sounds like an interesting book here and here's a nice little day hike so it's actually a nice nice book there then they also have history of severeville got some fire starters in case you got a fireplace you can't get it going i definitely got that i love the wooden floors definitely that general store look it's got some puzzles in case you're stuck up oh this one's cool different dawn which which type of marsh um i'd probably go with that you like that one yeah uh i always shoot for like this but it ends up like that it ends up like that don't it i love me some tootsie rolls that's for sure now i'm layers yeah they do i do got the big ones those are hard to find oh wow they got some stuckey's pecan rolls isn't that something what's the idaho spud will the candy bar that makes idaho famous oh yeah i don't know we might have we might have actually i'm curious you got some old-time ring games and fun little gadgets this is called the and bowl real sugar extra ginger well they got a big selection of drinks here all kinds of energy gatorade i even got the cervezas back here [Music] in case you forgot your cooler they got some throwaways here they have bread in case you need it for your cookout they also got milk and and just the basics over here they probably got some eggs and eggs and definitely a cool little little store here got a little bit of everything i got a little little seating area too [Music] so they serve breakfast from 7 a.m to 11. and then there's their sandwiches there i think i'm gonna get to reuben dance i should get the club they also have burgers and dogs they also have some grab-and-go sandwiches here so you order up at the counter and then they give you the tag and then you go to the front yeah then you go to the cash register after you get your drinks and chips and pay for it all at once so we got everything we need our sandwiches we're gonna head into the national park now and have a little picnic so now we're gonna head into the great smoky mountains national park now the one cool thing about dads is it has its own parking you don't have to pay as long as you're you know coming to dads or one of these businesses in this um this little area here so we're gonna head on to the national park here so we got a lot of different options um a lot of different places we have a little picnic of course you don't have to go too far you can just probably go off the nash the gatlinburg trail here have a little picnic you know we could head up to you chimney tops we have a little picnic area there right sounds fun or we could head down little river road and head over towards metcalf bottoms there's a beautiful beautiful river there too or we could just pull off the roadside somewhere where we you know and just back on in and have a little tailgater we decided we're going to head up to chimney tops picnic area so how you would get there is you would continue straight on up i believe it's about four miles from visitor center here or from this intersection so there's a lot of people that are out and about today enjoying the beautiful beautiful weather it is 82 here in the great smoky mountains national park but it's about 92 down in lake pigeon forge so it's a little bit cooler up here hopefully we can find ourselves a nice little stream it's always nice to see the colors in the mountains definitely beautiful shades of green and you get the blue skies go with it beautiful beautiful beautiful a lot of traffic coming off the mountain today i think a lot of people are having some fun weren't they now they're headed back either kitchen final destination pigeon forger gatlinburg okay so we're we're about four miles from gatlinburg and i know the next right will take us to the chimney tops picnic area we're gonna head in there and find a little place hopefully there's something available sometimes during um you know sometimes during you know the summer months it can be really hard to find you know a picnic area only charcoal fires no uh pedestal grills so you gotta have charcoal it's a cute little little um picnic area now this used to be a campground like a long long time ago like back before the beginning of time there is a bathrooms there's um you know something closer to the river that's what i'm trying to look for but usually those spaces are taken so right off the bat so there might not be a chance for any of those definitely something the old bears might be roaming or romping around bears want food bears are hungry bears want food all right so this is the end of the trail for this so now here comes the scenario of finding some place where we could sit and relax hopefully we can keep your eye peeled on i'm looking what are those gray silver things on those top of the tables for uh so you don't like you have a hot something of them hot okay oh from the girl you take it off the grill yeah yeah so you don't burn the top looks like those kids just went swimming i guess a lot of people swim down here my fear of beer i'd be afraid i might trip on a rock or something so yeah there's not going to be much available not much available we found a little picnic area here guys we did we did we're gonna pull right up into here just beautiful beautiful parking spaces you ready dawn i'm ready this is our little picnic site i got thank you for using the dumpsters this one here is kind of like a dual it's got two different levels here also has a little charcoal grill we won't need a charcoal grill will we not today and this is our view from our little our little picnic area so the reuben was nine dollars we had two sides of coleslaw which were three dollars a piece the club sandwich was ten dollars and we also got some some munchos some chips uh arizona iced tea or arnold palmer arizona iced tea don got a mango zero sugar pepsi i'm curious satori and you got a french truce chew strawberry must be a treat right yeah it's a treat it's a piece of champagne yeah we it was 35 and 15 cents for everything so here is my reuben and it's still warm it's still hot so it made it up here to gatlinburg while it was still hot that was the um and we're gonna we're gonna enjoy um dads oh wow okay so there it is that's the reuben it's on rye um it's got thousand island dressing it's got sauerkraut it smells really really good what did you get don i got the club show that club on it is huge don't drop it whatever you do this is a club holy smoke wow that's a lot of club for ten bucks that's a lot of club for ten dollars and this is dawn's club what's good look at dawn's club here wow that's a ten dollar club not bad not bad at all and i'm drinking a little arnold palmer iced tea sometimes we do this we bring charcoal we bring everything with us and we do like steaks or whatever but sometimes it's cool just to stop in grab something help the mountains uh it was lunch time we were down in gatlinburg and i said dawn let's grab some sandwiches head up in the park and today's office view is of the little pigeon river here the water's so clear you can see all the way to the bottom from here i don't know if i'm liking the reuben or not okay wow this club is actually really really good is this the best reuben i've ever had no it's not the best room i've ever had i didn't know they put on a thousand dollar dressing room yeah i think it's what happened because of the drive up here the thousand island dressing made it soggy is what happened definitely the club is really really good we were in old dads and they had that chalkboard um a chalkboard um with a chalkboard yeah for the menu and it kind of throws me off but they had lines through it so i guess it wasn't so overwhelming for me i get overwhelmed with chalkboard and they had so many things to offer that menu board all kinds of food selections their breakfast looked pretty reasonable there you know i mean the breakfast her club is the bomb that's the bomb but the club is um to me tomatoes lettuce tomato um i think it's ham in turkey i want to say turkey ham and turkey oh it's got bacon so definitely bacon on it you got to be careful because this area has got a lot of bearers they could sneak up on you and get get a bite to eat and that would be like kind of messed up okay so there's a chipmunk over here he's looking at me i think it might be chip from chippendale he's looking you see his little eyes he's underneath the rock over he's like dropped something first i think they want cookies but it's against the law in the national park to feed the wildlife so don't feed these guys um but i'm guessing i'm guessing the reason why he hangs out here is because he probably does get he did drop things you could smell all the charcoal grills and i love that smell i love that smell so dawn what did you think about old dads they have a lot to offer in there yeah i was shocked about the menu board i was like there's so many things on here how do you order from it yeah my my reuben's uh good but i've had better but your club is really really good i definitely suggest the club here's the coleslaw it looks homemade don't it yeah it's got a little pepper in there it looks like um and the forks are individually wrapped you don't like it what in the heck maybe it's gotta be stirred up do they put too much coupler on it it's kind of got like a wine vinaigrette is that what that is yeah it's kind of like a wine like a wine taste it tastes kind of fruity like yeah it's kind of like that's supposed to have a fruit taste to it it it's a different type of vinegar they're using i think don oh wow i don't i don't think i'm liking that i don't like it no i thought you knew it i wish we only got one to share yeah it's it's not too tangy yeah it's i don't know how to explain it it's they use like a different type of vinegar just to be bite number three to make sure maybe if it hits salt i don't think it's going to help too tangy yeah i'm not into this at all don't like it i want to spit it out as for value um it's pricey guys it's pricey you know but it is gatlinburg and i would say the prices are probably about average right probably about average it is a tourist town so the big question we always ask don and all these reviews is would you do old dads again yeah you know if you're down in gatlinburg and you're looking for a quick bite to eat and you want to go sit out you know what people watch or head in the park definitely um definitely a place for that right now we're gonna do a little bit of exploring around here we're gonna go down check things out and we're just gonna sit here and relax nice little steps to go down by the river here we're gonna head down and get a closer look this water so clear you can see all the way to the bottom definitely a nice little slimming hole here are you coming down went to the trash can beautiful day isn't it yes it is it's been great we've been sitting here taking in the beautiful river and the sounds what'd you think about this i enjoyed it so it was a nice picnic and we enjoyed the river yeah it's a little pigeon river right a little pigeon yes yeah we had a blast today didn't we just sitting here listening to the river uh the kids are down there swimming a lot of really nice swimming holes down here um yeah it's really really nice but guys that's gonna do it for today here in the
