planet you're watching field trips with robert [Music] hello guys and welcome back to field trips panama we are here at los busos resort if you follow the show you know this place if not welcome my name is robert field i come here three times a year for a month each time to do some of the most epic offshore kayak fishing in the entire world we just had 12 clients show up tonight and in the morning we'll be going out fishing for the next five days in a row gonna be epic gals stay tuned you can you can bring up you can stop some big fish i don't know pretty alcoholic beverage does anyone want a virgin fruity yet good fruity drink freaking parade [Music] [Music] [Music] all right guys morning of day one with this new group of clients so we're just now starting to get all the clients down in the water we help everyone launch one at a time we got several first-timers here but they're gonna be fun we're used to that gotta get to work i get these guys launched but looks nice and calm today the wind's supposed to stay down stay light so we're gonna fish here out front now if the wind changes the weather changes we're gonna have two pongas out there and we can basically shuttle the entire group to a protected area and kind of two trips but so that our guides are more mobile instead of putting two guys in each panga we're gonna have three guides in the two pongas and i'm gonna go out in the kayak and really show these guys how to do these different techniques show them how to catch the fish out here run around film help catch bait and hopefully catch a couple fish myself [Music] derrick in the ponga just dropped down the jig one time and he slipped up something decent looks like all right we got a client hooked up right in front of vodka probably on a live moon fish i bet you that's the rooster oh oh big jack big jack nice nice yup fish on feels like another jack tons of jacks out here they're good bait man that's what the sailfish was caught on last week another jack of all the jig still small is that jimmy there's a ton of jacks down there it's a good place to have your bait you got a moon fish or what all those jacks should attract predators and your moon fish will look like a real easy meal because they're slow a bunch of fish underneath me hooked up i popped them that was my fault guys there's a bunch of bait here offshore of the east end of vodka on the surface a lot of them are follow meadows there are fish that they jellyfish they won't bite anything but a lot of times below them are blue runners so if you don't have a bait and you're over here you see the surface activity cast into it and let it sink a little bit i'm trying to trying to find vape for you guys something other than bonita another fish on the jig yeah another jack i'm still hoping there's something else mixed in with these guys down there just looking for something bigger sometimes you just gotta weed through the smaller fish the fish you don't want to catch there might be something else down there but jacks are super aggressive so a lot of times they'll get your jig or your bait first but there's a lot of jacks down there it's because they're eating bait if there's a lot of bait down there there's something else eating them almost guaranteed in the meantime these guys are a fun fight strong fish pound for pound not a bad way to kill an afternoon while soaking my bait i gotta live one of those guys out hopefully there's something around here eating them last week one of our clients bill hood to sailfish [Applause] and he hooked that sailfish on a live jack about the same size mine is so i'm kind of over here just hoping for a sailfish to swim through and hopefully find my jackets an easy meal since it's on a hook and kind of struggling on the outside of these big schools a free jacks we'll see just gotta be patient all right oh he's even got the right kind of cup that's what's up those business baristas are delivering some coffee all right so here are those business we try to take on the water client needs very seriously so we got coffee delivered to you directly on the water it only comes one way though black the right way got dolphins big pot of spinner dolphins coming through jumping going crazy and a lot of times the big tuna hunt with these dolphins there's probably some in the area and less like that they're gone they're moving real fast which is usually when the tuner are with them they combine the big pods and a lot of times a big 70 80 150 pound class tuna will be hunting with them they they eat the same prey a lot of times all right didn't get that name for no reason oh big jack all right try to bump the drag down once you got that in your hand put the drag down but not all the way and then [Music] 116 centimeters [Music] a lot of floating debris out here i'm surprised we're not seeing mahi all right we've got bill here from jersey just landed a yellowfin tuna on the bait rig super light tackle really impressive catch and that guy will be sashimi for appetizers tonight jimmy's got this close to the boat he's he's working to get a gaff in it right now action turned on hot and heavy here look at that you got it jimmy there it is got him got him nice not a bad start to the trip brother chad here from michigan with a yellowfin tuna what'd you get that on [Music] on gotcha man that's uh that's a universal bait works everywhere for everything oh yeah that's a dope man there we go pretty sure it's a jab but it might be a little too big for bait there's smaller ones down there better fish on the jig again oh jinx myself yep this feels more like bait you want to get your hook ready you can have this one i'm going to hook him through the nose yeah just watch your tip and your business brother can you uh head west and uh make sure you keep an eye on those guys or some guys out of sight [Music] fish on the jig i still got this little fish out not sure what it is marked a bunch of stuff from a fish finder went over it dropped the jig one time hooked up feels like a jack but you never know wow yep as a jack bigger one much bigger better jack of all on the jig it's always a good time on artificial but he wrapped up all my live bait lines let him go see if i can clear this mess that he made [Music] all right andy over here has got a nice mahi on right next to the boat i'm gonna come up here and try to help him gaff it i don't have time to reel my line in if it tangles then i'm just gonna cut it anyway so we gotta take it all right so once i get close if you could bring him up kind of lift up on the rod they're lift up on the rod lift up on the rod right now if you can if you can oh bro it's okay it's okay it's okay just take it down i'm gonna try to get a since i can get closer to you that's a beast bro oh why is there so much fun okay okay i'm gonna come back kind of when i get close if you can kind of lift up but then watch out when i uh okay lift up can you lift do here i need to get that hook out yeah i'm kind of nervous i don't want to get away so yeah also worry about my leg holy sweetie dude gigantic mahi in the boat for andy big big boy no watch out watch out watch out make sure you're not wrapped it's okay he's he's pretty much dead don't reel in anymore you can give me that line back there watch out watch out don't break him now okay okay my at that thing man that is a mahi mahi okay hold on hold on let's i need you to back off the drag some not all the way okay but to where it's lighter okay let out the little line so wait until you until you can kind of pull out some line out of the out of the reel if you keep your thumb on it you can pull just line out you know just don't go too fast all right yeah i'm really that's okay i've got him dude he's got a gap through his bird you need more uh that's fine i'll put the rod in the rod holder in front on this side would probably be best that is a mahi bro i got the tail look at that thing all right here's where you're going to want to grab them is here okay inside this gill plate there's some places to grab onto okay dude he's still gonna try to get away from you so yeah yeah yeah so you're gonna grab in there i don't pull the gaff out he's dying so don't worry i've got my line so i'm gonna get my line around and i'm gonna get some videos so you just just just chill right there oh that's sick dude was that the moon fish yes look at this andy from boston here this is his first time kayak fishing in the ocean and he has got a fish of a lifetime on his lap a beautiful big mahi mahi oh my gosh wow what a fish day one like pressure's off congrats man dude thanks so much for helping of course a boat is covered in blood all right guys gigantic mahi in andy's lap right now uh it hit the moon fish but they definitely hit divers especially the smaller ones they'll hit the xps jig they'll hit the popper mahi are the fastest growing fish in the ocean it also makes them the dumbest fish in the ocean because they're all pretty young fish so they'll hit pretty much anything when they're fired up so just make sure you're trolling something oh we're gonna be eating good tonight that's a wild fish right there they are around it's got really clear water today and it must have brought these uh these big mahi in adam and the other ponga went over to the spot where we catch moon fish brought back about 20 moon fish we've really got these systems kind of dialed and uh man did it ever just pay off sounds like we have a second angle hooked up with a big mahi somewhere too dare is that another mahi over there [Music] all right we got my buddy jimmy over here this is the third time he's been here that i've been here he built a house next door to the lodge just landed a nice bull mahi and now he's hooked up to another one he's got it close to the boat wow what a pretty fish there you go try to go for his head if you can got him there you go second mahi of the day here on day one not a bad start to the trip brother thanks for catching dinner that's three mahi in about five minutes there's a school of them out here for sure super impressive catch they are hard to keep on the hook they jump like crazy they're super strong fast basically everything you're looking for in a game fish jimmy is hooked up on his third mahi of the day on day one he's taking off see a big one all right careful with them look at that beauty right there [Music] oh yeah these are good careful there we go never had that angle before whoa perfect perfect shot that's awesome man third body on fire you're like a magnet that circle hook perfectly right in the corner of the mouth yes sir oh what's the rest of me what did he eat a big fish [Music] [Applause] [Music] look how long that thing is it's like yeah yeah i caught a fish that's awesome yeah you got derrick cortez cleaning the fish beautiful night today big old mahi today tonight four mahi on the day and none of them were small [Music] broom toe grouper we got some yellow fin gonna be eating good tonight [Music] pio taught us cool trick for skinning these mahi basically just kind of beat them with the knife to kind of tenderize the skin then you cut kind of around the edges and the skin just peels off on one big piece nice and easy look at that leaf yeah easier this cool trick the local guys here talk it's your big mommy but making pretty quick work of the job pio's jumping in we got pio and derek cleaning the fish that beautiful electric blue los colores que linda hey queen hello i felt it on my own all right what the [ __ ] [Music] look at that skin just comes right off mahiko and michael fish that like bonita strips [Music] and what a way to kick off the second group of clients the second week of field trips panama oh my goodness four really nice mahi including a gigantic cow mahi for andy who has never kayak fished in the ocean in his life until today i helped him gap that fish is what an
